2023.06.03 23:50 Rednidedni A complete breakdown of spellcasters and why they're fantastic
| There's been this looming ghost of martial classes and spellcasters being compared to eachother, and the repeated quiet sentiments that the latter are just... sub-par. So, in a vain attempt to end the doubt for at least some people, I've decided to hop right into the ring and lay out in detail how exactly this part of the game has been carefully designed, how the math behind it ticks, what the little quirks and asterisks are, and why spellcasters are ultimately powerhouses and in an overall fantastic spot right now. On Martials You always need two points to make a comparison, so we've got to talk about martial characters for a moment. Martial characters have some defining features throughout: - They don't have many abilities, but those are very strong abilities, and they can be used infinitely. Fighter has the classic +2 accuracy, and starts with Attack of Opportunity. Inventor has a cool invention with special unstable abilities and consistent damage boosts.
- They do a lot of damage. Like, a lot lot. Most of their abilities enhance the already high output of Strikes with magical martial weapons, and those that don't (such as Champion's Reaction, Monk's high speed and action economy or Outwit Ranger) offer very strong other benefits.
- Their defenses are superior.
- Getting additional abilities (f.e. Athletics maneuvers, Demoralize, Medic Dedication) for them is pricey in terms of feats, ability boosts, and/or skill increases.
They are specialists at their things - they do a low amount of things really well, and going beyond that is tied to opportunity costs. That low amount of things also includes one of the most important things in a game like this: Single target damage. They can focus fire to knock out weak targets quickly and very effectively apply themselves to kill enemies, which is how fights are won. So if martials win fights... what is the point of spellcasters? On Spell effects Well, what is it spellcasters get? Various degrees of average-to-poor defenses, cantrips, and limited spell slots to cast things with. Let's pick four popular good spells to keep an eye on thoughout this analysis: - Fireball. Lv3 spell, 6d6 damage in a 20ft burst on a basic save, with an extremely high range.
- Heal. Lv1 spell, 1d8+8 healing at 30ft range or other more niche but occasionally more useful applications.
- Slow. Lv3 spell, slowed 1 at 30ft range. Lasts a minute on failed save, or a round on passed save.
- Air Walk. Lv4 spell, allows you to walk through the air for 5 minutes.
Right off the bat, it can be noted that none of these effects are things martial characters can achieve, or at the very least not at those levels. - Fireball's 6d6 is quite high by even by the standards of a full turn of single-target ranged martial attacks, and has far more range, area and damage than any analogues like Inventor's Explode. It also covers a HUGE area.
- Heal allows for explosive ranged healing numbers beyond what even a Medic Archetype can do, and it doesn't even need a roll to get there.
- Slow inflicts a significant debuff to the action economy of a foe that can only be approximated with things such as stunning strike, everyone stepping away from a melee foe, or a Trip that wants the foe to stand back up again - while all of those have their own advantages, Slow can do this for a whole minute instead of once, and - again - from range.
- Air Walk gives something that's usually akin to better flight, granting pseudo-melee-immunity and allowing you to basically just ignore terrain without lingering action costs, earlier than a martial character could - even later, outside of a very select few ancestry feats and costly and limited magic items, it's extremely difficult to gain that inferior flight otherwise.
Wow, those are some incredibly good effects! That could become pretty busted. So what's the catch? On one hand it's limited spell slots, and... On Enemy Saving Throws Enemies have good saving throws. Saving throws vary a lot between different stats and enemies, but if you're forcing an enemy of equal level (which is likely stronger than the average!) with a perfectly average saving throw ("Moderate" save in Monster Building Guidelines) to save against your spells, they only have between a 35% and 45% chance to fail it, depending on your level (Odds increase at lv19+). Similarly, martial characters enjoy a 55 to 65% chance to hit with their attacks against the average tough foe ("High" AC in Monster Building Guidelines"). That is a... sizeable difference. How come? A big part of it is: Spells very rarely actually miss. Most do something even on a successful save, where an attack just completely whiffs - in the white room above, the spell has a 15-5% chance of doing nothing, where the attack has 45-35%. And those save effects are often no jokes either - Fireball still does 3d6 (which is comparable to a longbow fighter hitting), Slow still saps an action. Not big and impressive, but far better than nothing. It really adds up over time. So much so infact, that the aforementioned fireball - at level 5, where the gap huge at 40% fail chance vs. 75% hit chance - can very nearly match the damage of that longbow fighter in single target damage. The one thing that fighter is meant to be really good at. That's how strong 6d6 basic save is. Fireball is most certainly not meant to be a single target spell. Blasting is good, folks. On Versatility of Defenses That whiteroom math just now was probably inaccurate. It helps to give a rough frame of reference, but the world is not made out of High AC and Moderate Saves - it's made out of all kinds of statistics. Here comes another facet of the discussion: Martials can only use a few skill actions to target things other than AC. Almost all of their main prowess - Strikes - goes into specifically AC. Casters get to target three different saves and also still AC if they feel like it. It can go either way for any given defense, but if you know where to aim for, you get an immediate significant boon to your accuracy on basically any given creature. But how can you do that? Well, here's a bit of an asterisk: Recall Knowledge or guessing based on descriptions. One is unreliable based on how the table runs it (at least until it gets Remastered in november), one is unreliable based on intuition and curveballs. However, I believe most tables run RK in a way that lets you gather some clues here (and the rest should!) - the high mental stats of spellcasters often also give an advantage in using just that. That action can also be beneficial for martials deciding maneuvers, or can be just as beneficial if they take the action and share their findings. Use it! (And if you're a charisma caster instead, you're in turn uniquely able to lower those saves yourself via Demoralize and Bon Mot!) On Versatility of Effects But that's not all! Not only do different spells target different defenses, but they also do vastly different things. This right here is the true crux of spellcaster power, the rest is just setup. Remember Martials at the beginning: Specialized in hitting things. Really bloody good at hitting things. Solid at some other things if built for it. What can casters do? Basically anything. Fireball blows up groups of foes. Slow partially disables a single foe for a longer time and makes their life suck with some teamwork to waste more actions. Pirouette into Heal next round to retcon the enemy attempt to focus fire with no check, Air Walk after the fight to ignore a stupidly slippery cliff or gain blanket melee near-immunity! And that's just four spells. There are so many good effects among them that I couldn't possibly list them all. Yeah, your best tools run out fast and you just don't really have anything that matches the raw power of martial strikes - but depending on your spell list you can make damn near anything else. Walls, forced movement, an incredible array of utility magic that I don't have space to detail more in this post beyond saying it's really helpful, auto-hit magic missiles that outdamage melee fighters against bosses, twenty types of controls and debuffs, a rainbow of damage types for weaknesses, loads of buffs, spells with long durations that you can just cast before facing danger so you get free action buffs, naturally including many, many ways to make said martials much better at using that great raw power they have. Remember kids, if your +1 made the ranger hit, that's your damage! On Incapacitation Ah, the dreaded spell trait. Good spells, until a certain enemy level is hit, then they fall off a cliff. A rough solution of wanting "Spells should be awesome and be able to annihilate a foe with horrible conditions" and "Spells should not be able to wreck bosses" in the same game. Many are also single-target, meaning they would be the best in fights against single foes... but that's exactly where they're often useless! Why take something like this over something like Slow, that always works? Because Incapacitation spells have more powerful effects than those other spells. Doesn't work against the lone boss, no, but might well work against the boss who brought their friends to the party. The conditions these spells inflict are truly horrible and can set foes back so badly. Blindness often more than halves a foe's effectiveness. Impending Doom may be delayed, but comes with -4 AC one round in. Calm Emotions is way up there, taking enemies out the fight like we're playing D&D 5e. Baleful Polymorph actually just a stunlock, Color Spray pretends a Blind and minute-long Dazzle in a cone pretends it's anywhere near putting Frightened 2 on one guy... and remember, if you use top-level slots (as you should), that level limit is not half bad. You can hit APL+0 and on uneven levels even APL+1 foes - you can debilitate foes utterly when they're still just as strong as your entire character combined, or perhaps stronger. In one go. No crits needed. Try them sometime. On Spell Attacks So if casters can do anything, what if they pretended to be a Martial? Similarly to how save spells are less accurate, spell attacks are infamous for lacking half damage on miss while still having the reduced accuracy of a spellcaster. They don't even get potency runes! What gives? Short answer, three things: - These Spell Attacks tend to hit unusually hard, making up for poor accuracy
- Like all spells, they're designed to be situational and only used in paticularly appropiate situations (see above), making up for resource drain
- True Strike
Martials are superior at single target damage, but Casters can spend resources with certain single target spells like most of these to keep up and exceed them briefly with this. Remember - versatility is strength. Copying martials all day is no bueno. But copying martials just a little, for when you could really use another martial specifically right now... that's something that calls for good single target damage, and these might just be what you need. It's not the biggest niche to fill, but it's certainly not one to be completely ignored either! Here's a graph for one such situation, comparing a few different attacks to a Flurry Longbow Ranger taking (only?) three shots. Target is an equal-level foe with High AC. https://preview.redd.it/rt4sf5uljv3b1.png?width=678&format=png&auto=webp&s=2bd40648e744b3b7f1ad7bc9fe0c11d24edc7084 The numbers are in direct comparison to the Ranger's damage output - so f.e. the basic Hydraulic Push at level 5 does about -20% average damage compared to the ranger, while the true strike'd version is at +20%. Crits and accuracy are accounted for, so are all the various stat and rune increases (including two elemental damage runes for the ranger at 9 and 15!). However, the ranger arguably doesn't need three actions to pull their shots off, unlike True Striked spells - and all spells here are cast at their maximum available level, so they're more expensive than you might want. Curiously, some of the spell attacks do much better in comparison against those hard-to-hit higher level foes - True Strike scales better than MAP attacks, it turns out. Is this situationalness worth it, when an AoE spell can dish out much higher raw numbers? How many Rangers do you need in your magic beam for it to be worth it? Ultimately, that's up for you to decide. If you don't like the prospects, you have many other great options after the first levels - but they're probably no good match for when you need to hit that one guy over there really bloody hard, right now. (Oh, and a Psychic taking True Strike on an Amp blows past all but one of these curves!) Wait, you keep comparing to bows. What about melee? Well, if spells are largely ranged, it makes sense to compare them to other ranged options, right? If you don't agree, things turn out similarly if we replace things with melee martials, except those martials have less actions to spend on attacking, are in more risky positions, and hit significantly harder with the actions they do have. On Low Levels All of these things cost spell slots - something that low level casters severely lack. The gap between level 1 and 2 spells is often huge, and where high level casters struggle to earnestly run out of spell slots, low level casters can burn out in just a few combats - early on, even a few turns! Turns out, cantrips are actually really bloody potent at those. A telekinetic projectile doing 1d6 plus 4 damage isn't impressive, but when the ranged martials don't even get to have damage modifiers, the melee folks have to melee at a level where one lucky crit can be all it takes, and where the martials have no runes yet for superior accuracy... there's suprisingly good utility to that. Especially if you - you guessed it - picked electric arc. Not all cantrips are created equal, and... well, it is what it is, and that is not very well balanced. Healing spells are super good here and Magic Weapon is probably more than a little bit overpowered, and every tradition can access two out of three between these, so casters are definetely able to give impressive contributions even here. Conclusion Despite the accuracy and limitations, between all of these explanations, there is one core truth to why spellcasting is good: Having just the right spell, at just the right time, is the single most powerful thing you can possibly do in this game. A fireball doing more raw damage than the fighter will do this entire fight. A Heal coming just in time to save a life, or just a turn of unconciousness, or frying an undead horde. A Slow keeping a boss in perpetual lockdown because they got somewhat unlucky once. An Air Walk that the enemies just... can't respond to. (This is also why the Flexible Spellcaster archetype is actually pretty nifty - you're so much more likely to have just that right spell prepared somewhere.) Keep many tools around and keep your options open. The martials bring home most of the damage to progress those enemy health bars to zero... but when they miss and the enemy crits, when the terrain is screwy, when the dragon has wings and just keeps burning everything down, that's when "I am REALLY good at attacking" shows a distinct lack of plan Bs. Martials do not win fights. Martials progress fights. This is a team game, and if you don't work together, the dragon wins. Casters are the ones that pull the strings in the back and make sure the fight actually progresses in your favor. And sometimes the boss Nat 1s against Slow. Then yeah, they definetely just win that fight. "Okay, I get that spellcasters are useful, but I don't feel useful. They're boring to play!" Okay, but... how much would you need to feel useful, when you're already being useful? As in, what should the game give you beyond making you actually be useful? Taste is highly subjective and you're of course not wrong for feeling like that. Nothing is for everyone. But is the problem here within the game, or within perspective? Perhaps the best fix here is shifting the perspective a little - how much did I achieve through my martials or protect them from? How would things have turned out if I wasn't there to make life hard for the foes? And to everyone else, thank your supports! You've got plenty reason to. "Okay, but I don't want versatility. I don't want a bag of tricks, I just want to be really good at blowing stuff up and not deal with all of this!" That I can entirely get behind. PF2e did a great job at making d20-style do-anything magic balanced and mechanically reasonable, but it indeed is built to discourage preparing only fireballs. Perhaps Psychic being more geared towards this kind of thing will help, or Kineticist can fill that niche as a magic-user who's built on a martial chassis, or maybe we'll even get an Elementalist rework in august that makes that useful. Until then, we can only hope. submitted by Rednidedni to Pathfinder2e [link] [comments] |

2023.06.03 23:34 Daft__Junk Batwank is better than Doomwank.
...because you can actually complain about Batwank.
So when Batman decides to use fire against Martians, or make a plan to defeat one alien, or build a robot to defeat himself (as I type, I realize that none of this is actually all that impressive given the scope of comic books) you can criticize it. About 10% of all threads here are criticisms regarding the achievments of Batman. How he shouldn't be able to do this, how he could not do that, how the character should never be more impressive than a beat cop, etc. It's the closest thing battleboards have to karma farms.
On the polar opposite, we have Doomwank. Wanna complain about Latveria being considered an Utopia where are all jobs are automated and every citizen has a job anyway? You can't, man, it's good writing, you gotta praise it. Wanna complain about Dr. Doom pulling a machine out his ass that not only defeats the all-powerful foe in one page, it also steals said foe's powers to Doom, making him a god? You can't, man, it's good writting, you gotta praise it. Wanna say that Reed Richards being okay with Doom taking care of Valeria weeks after Doom murdered Ant-Man's daughter is hacky? You can't, man, Doom taking care of Valeria is the best thing ever, you gotta praise it.
It all boills down to Dr. Doom fans being overzealous. Supposedly the character is very very complex, supposedly his stories are very very deep, supposedly George Lucas was so fascinated with him that it inspired Darth Vader (no one can find a source, though), so you have to like it when Latveria makes no sense, you have to like it when Doom defeats an omnipotent enemy with a machine he pulled from his ass, you have to like it when Marvel heroes forget he killed the kid of a hero last week just for the pleasure of having him raise their own kids. Because if you ever say that any of this isn't deep or complex or well-written, how can we keep on pretending it is?
Whatever many faults you can find in the way Batman is written or treated, you can never say that the character is a Sacred Cow. And he is all the better for it.

2023.06.03 23:20 TheOmnin The worst collection log slots to actively grind for
Hey guys. So I decided to spend an hour to see how long it would take to reach the droprate of any evil chicken piece and the whole outfit getting god eggs purely from woodcutting. The results are disgusting.
Let me explain the mechanics for getting bird nest drops from woodcutting first. Every time you chop a log there's a 1/256 it'll be replaced with a bird nest. And when that nest is rolled there's a 3/100 (3/95 with a strung rabbit foot equipped) chance it contains any 1 of 3 different god eggs.
When a god egg is sacrificed to the altar in the woodcutting guild there's a 1/1200 chance to roll any specific evil chicken outfit piece. So the droprate for any piece of the outfit is 1/300.
So when it comes to woodcutting the best method for logs/hr is 1.5t teaks. When doing 1.5t teaks on fossil island you can roughly maintain 205k exp/hr if you're playing semi efficiently and know the method well. This equates to around 1600 logs cut/hr.
So finally the results. If we divide 1600 logs/hr with 256/1 (=256) we get that you can get ~6 bird nest rolls/hr. Then if we divide 6 bird nests/hr with 95/3 (=33+2/3) we get that you can get ~0.2 god eggs/hr which equates to 1 god egg every 5 hours. Finally if you multiply 5 hours/egg with 1200/4 (=300) we get that it takes ~1500 HOURS to reach the droprate of ANY evil chicken piece. To reach the droprate of the entire outfit without getting any dupes it would take ~6000 HOURS.
So in conclusion don't do woodcutting for your god eggs. All you completionists should just stick to kingdom and bird house runs.

2023.06.03 23:12 TheRhalf Hi, would you recommend some horror games? + my list with opinions
Hi, I've always liked horror games, however, I stopped being scared of them at a young age, it doesn't matter though for that's not why I play these games, I just simply love their atmosphere and art design :D. For this reason I'm not interested in walking simulators and games full of scripted events where you just run and hide, or the classic "survival horror" game where the only survival horror element is searching for batteries or something like that. As you might've deduced, since i'm not scared of horror games gameplay is very important for me :)
Clarification: The only gaming device I have is a PC.
Games i've already played:
- Resident Evil 4,5,6,7,8 and Revelations 2 (Great action games with good horror art design, story became very odd after 4 tho)
- Resident Evil Remakes 1,2,3,4 (Didn't like them too much tho, except 4, I find scripted chases annoying and I didn't enjoy the guns feeling like they were shooting peas, the first one had me turning gears most of the time preparing my next move, I liked that)
- Apuslov: End of Gods (I really enjoyed the nordic mythology, the puzzles were great and the combat wasn't so bad :D)
- Evil Within 1 and 2 (These ran poorly on my pc for some reason, finished the first one but couldn't bother with the second one since it had very annoying stutters)
- Doom 3 and RoE (Great art design, great story and lore, crappy gunplay)
- Zombie Army Trilogy (Don't know if this counts? i liked the mindless pewpew until it bored me)
- Penumbra 1,2,3 (Great story and puzzles, didn't mind much the chases because the AI was fairly stupid, didn't finish the third one tho, the story was too odd and the puzzles became annoying)
- Amnesia - The Dark Descent (Amazing story, fun puzzles, didn't like the chases tho)
- Dark Souls (The art design is great and the souls and bonfire system will make you respect your opponents, this game's world also gives a very odd feeling, similar to a dream, really dislike the gotcha level design though, I also don't know if this counts)
- Outlast 1 and 2 (I like the story and overly realistic atmosphere of the first one, the second one had a very crappy story and the gameplay couldn't make up for that, nice art design tho)
- Dead Space 1,2,3 (Amazing games, even the third one was great, plagued only by EA's greed)
- FNAF games (Fun for a bit, at least)
- System Shock 2 (I was terrified of this thing as a kid, couldn't play much of it for this reason, dont remember much tho)
- Call of Cthulhu Dark Corners of the Earth (Amazing story, gunplay, and puzzles, don't know how well this thing aged, it also ran like sht on my old computer)
- Prey (I find the black amorphous design of the enemies really boring, the exploration, puzzle and gunplay were very fun tho, didn't play long of enough to have an opinion on the story)
- Agony (Agony)
- Scorn (The gunplay was very basic and left a lot to be desired, but the artwork and environmental storytelling was amazing, couldn't help but stare at the beautiful landscapes and corridors, truly felt like an otherworldly experience)
- Soma (good story, fun puzzles, not much else)
- F.E.A.R (Spooky, the gameplay aged like milk tho, unless you play at lower difficulties)
- Slender: The Arrival (Can't remember much about this one)

2023.06.03 23:03 KnightBreeze What I've Become: Chapter XI
First Previous Ja’vail woke up with a yawn, her eyes squinting in the evening light. Her room was positioned in the castle on the west side, to ensure that Tor’s sun would wake her up for her duties. It was a purpose that it served with perfection, despite the fact that she really would have liked to sleep for a few more minutes.
However, her duty could not be delayed. It was her power that served as the linchpin to Tor’s spell, and she would fulfill her duty to ensure her Diarchy’s, and her world’s, future. With a grunt of exertion, Queen Ja’vail rose from her bed, stretched out her wings, and moved to the balcony before picking up her robe. As soon as she was somewhat decent, the Queen of the Night then opened her wings, looked to the skies, and began channeling her power into the spellform that had been weaved between the planet and its moon, renewing the bonds that connected them, and ensuring the delicate balance between her magic and her husband’s would not come undone.
She performed this ritual twice a day, every day, to ensure the spell’s continued existence. In the past few months she had performed it well before Tor had performed his own renewal, and had had to go remind the foolish drake to not only perform his duties, but to hurry up and get his tail to bed. Without her efforts, and her constant reminder to the king, the entire thing would come undone, ensuring their planet’s rapid descent into division once again.
Without the two dakri turning the planet, the two sides would either become too hot or too cold to sustain life, with the twilight between them ruled by monsters birthed from the nightmares of the oppressed.
It was with some surprise, then, that as she poured her soul into this undertaking, she could feel the thrum of her husband’s power clear in her mind, letting her know that Tor had already renewed his half of the spell for the night.
He really did need that sleep, she thought, giving a self-satisfied nod towards the setting sun before turning back towards her private chamber. She still had much to prepare for her night; even with the most pressing matter out of the way, she still expected a full schedule. Her court wasn’t especially busy, as the dakri found the night to be the best time to sleep and prepare for the next day.
That was besides the point, though, as her duties rarely involved overseeing the day-to-day rule. Rather, her task was to patrol the ǣther, hunt the nightmares that plagued her people, and to do her best to heal the source of those nightmares.
This was especially important now that she had cleared the Forest of Yith and had located the source of that particularly violent nest. It was best to keep those nightmares from returning, and for this cause she was going to attempt to enter the survivor’s dreams again. She doubted she would have as much success this time as she had last time, simply because almost drowning had weakened the creature’s defenses significantly. However, she had faith that she would at least be able to soothe the visitor’s dreams, and possibly gain a little more information on how he thought.
At the very least, she’d settle for a name. She couldn’t just keep calling it ‘the creature’ or ‘the survivor,’ as those ‘names’ grew heavy on the tongue, and wore down her patience. A name would also help the visit she had planned go a lot smoother, and would hopefully help them as they tried to convince him to come to the castle with them.
Once Ja’vail was dressed, she left the comforts of her room and made her way to her husband’s study. As she expected, he was still there, his desk still quite messy, a combination of his daily paperwork and the reports of the crashed alien spaceship forming the majority of the clutter.
Much to Ja’vail’s surprise, however, Tor wasn’t at his desk. Instead, the drake was standing at his window, looking out over the countryside and the eerie sunset before him, a reminder of the twilight that his people had escaped. In his hand he held a memory crystal, its red glow plainly visible in the slowly darkening room.
“Tor, are you alright?” the queen asked as she approached her husband.
Tor turned to look at her, surprise on his face. “Oh, I am well enough, I suppose…” he said, clearly still lost in thought. The king then looked down at the memory crystal in his hand, his brows furrowing in displeasure. “I have just received some… unsettling news. I was actually waiting for your arrival before deciding on anything.”
Ja’vail took a few more steps, her eyes locked on her husband's diminutive form. “What happened?”
Tor looked at her, then back at the stone. “It isn't easy to say this, but… we may have to kill the visitor.”
Ja’vail felt like her stomach had turned to ice. “Kill? Tor, what madness are you spouting? What crime could he have possibly committed while I was asleep to earn him a death sentence?”
Tor looked at his wife, pain in his eyes. “Nothing, dear. He’s completely innocent. That is beside the point, however.”
“Then tell me, what madness has overtaken you that you would murder an innocent?” Ja’vail demanded, her tone brooking no argument. “Or what monster are you, to have taken the place of my Tor? I must say, you have the likeness down, but your impression of his mannerisms leave much to be desired.”
Tor let out a mirthless laugh at that. “No monster or madness, my dark princess. Just a visit from an old friend…” he sighed again, before turning and holding out the crystal for Ja’vail to take. “Lady Siv paid both me and the survivor a visit today. She left me this, as well as a decision to make.”
Ja’vail looked at the crystal, before staring back at her husband, a dubious expression on her face. "And she told you to kill him? I do not remember her being so heartless.”
“And you would remember correctly. She was nearly in tears when I met her, though she did well in hiding them,” Tor said, before approaching his wife. He gently took her hand, and placed the crystal in her palm. “When she saw the visitor, she also looked into his future. This is what she saw. Please, do not force me to bear this knowledge alone.”
Ja’vail’s expression softened ever so slightly before she glanced down at the stone in her hand. “I will look, but I do not promise anything.”
Tor’s crest rose, but he did not say anything else. Instead he turned back to the window, waiting patiently for his wife to see what he had seen.
The memory took Ja’vail less than a second to go through, but she felt like she had been gone for a lifetime when the world came back into focus. She stared at the rock in horror, before throwing it to the ground. It did not shatter, it being made of quartz, but it still felt satisfying after the horrors she had witnessed.
“I was not pleased, either,” Tor said, not even bothering to turn and look. “Even if the visitor was guilty of some crime, I would spare him for what he could teach our people. As it stands, he is lost and alone, hoping for a friend. And I have to kill this lonely soul.”
“But… but we can’t do this! You’re better than this… we’re better than this!” Ja’vail said, nearly in tears. “Would we really sacrifice an innocent for the security of our own realm? Would you… would you…”
“Would I what?” Tor asked, turning to his wife, fire in his eyes. “Would I judge the worth of souls? Would I weigh a single life against the good of my people? Of his people? Would I become my father?”
Ja’vail looked away, her eyes closed as she folded her arms. “I’m… I’m sorry…”
“Don’t be,” Tor said, turning back to the window. “You have no need to apologize. I cannot measure the worth of anyone’s soul, nor would I try. However, this visitor’s life is not worth the lives of every person on this planet. When you include the lives of his own world, as well as the unnamed snake people… well… the choice is quite obvious.”
Ja’vail looked down at the floor, her eyes filling with tears as she thought everything over. “Would it have been better, then, had I not saved his life? Should I have let him drown?” she asked, her voice barely a whisper.
“Maybe. Maybe not. All I know is that the spirits have told us that the lives of others are better off if his is forfeit,” Tor said, his voice filled with bitterness. “I have not even seen this visitor in the flesh, and I do not know anything about him at all. What is he like? Does he have a family? What does he enjoy?” Tor asked, looking to his wife hopefully.
Ja’vail shook her head, not daring to bring her eyes up to meet her husband’s, as she didn’t think she could contain herself if she did. “I cannot say. I was only in his mind for a brief time, and I do not understand much of what I saw,” she said, her form gently shaking, as if a chill wind had entered the room.
Tor looked back at the window, his eyes closed as he thought on this. “Essentially, we are deciding the fate of not only an innocent, but a complete stranger.” Tor took in a deep breath, then slowly let it out. “And try as I might, I cannot measure his worth as greater, or even equal, to the lives of my people’s. If it comes to it, he will be slain, and his body destroyed, just as the spirits have told us to do.”
Ja’vail began crying in earnest, her shoulders slumping with the weight of guilt. This caused Tor to turn to her, lifting her beak gently with one hand until she looked him in the eye. “So… let’s ensure that it never comes to that.”
Ja’vail looked up at Tor, hope in her eyes. “But, Tor, we can’t-”
“Shhhh…” Tor said, encircling his wife in his arms. He was shorter than her, but she still felt comforted, simply because it was him. “I’m not going to murder someone simply because of the damage his life
might cause. Siv’s vision wasn’t that his continued existence spelled our doom, but that we must do everything in our power to ensure he doesn’t leave.” He pulled away from her a little, looking up into her hopeful eyes. “His death will be treated as a last resort, nothing more. For now, let us see how much worth his
life is. What can he teach us? What is his people like? I, for one, do not want to squander this opportunity that the spirits have gifted us, simply for fear of an unknown future.”
Ja’vail’s crest rose as she dried her tears with the feathers on the back of her arm. “Yes… I completely agree…”
The two of them spent quite a bit of time like that, lost in each other’s arms as the sun slowly set on the horizon. Even after the world was shrouded in night, they were still there, lost in the comfort that each other provided.
* * *
Kel’vara’s beak glowed as she wove her magic, pulling the water from the bucket in front of her. It coalesced into a ball hovering inches above her hand, the swishing, splashing sounds of the liquid a soothing counterpoint to the frustration she was feeling.
She liked working with liquids when she was feeling upset. It had always come easy to her, the seemingly chaotic way it flowed and ebbed was a balm on her nerves, instead of a frustrating mess that most other practitioners found the state of matter to be.
She slowly flexed her fingers and extended her wings, the movements giving a tactile presence to the shapes she was forming in her imagination. Slowly, as if watching ice melt in reverse, the ball of water stretched and flowed, extending here, twirling there, molding and shaping to her will to become whatever she wanted.
In this instance, the water took the shape of a dragon, its long, strong legs striding through the air as it looked around, its inquisitive, intelligent eyes searching for prey, or barring that, a dakri to play with. Its long tail wagged behind it as it seemed to spot something, before it shot off like an arrow, dashing towards whatever had garnered its attention.
The small, watery, facsimile of a dragon didn’t get very far across the room before the door opened, breaking Kel’vara’s concentration and causing her happy little pet to lose its cohesion. In an instant, the once watery, spiky, two legged reptile was nothing more than a mess on the once clean floor.
Kel’vara looked up in annoyance, her gaze falling upon an irritatingly unapologetic Valros as he entered the room. “Haven't you ever heard of knocking?” Kel’vara demanded as she used her magic to scoop up the water and return it to the bucket.
Valros was unimpressed. “Kel’vara, you can’t just stay here sulking, we still have work to do.”
“I’m not sulking! I’m just practicing my more precise spell work,” Kel’vara said, turning up her beak as her crest lay flat against the back of her head.
Valros, however, did not look convinced in the slightest. “Kel’vara, The Lady is her own person. You can hardly expect her to stay around and answer every single question you have.”
“I never said that she wasn’t.”
Valros let out a frustrated sigh. “Well, if you’re sure, then I really think we need to go over the plan for tomorrow,” Valros said, trying to get Kel’vara back on track. “I don’t think we’ll need many knights, the thing’s pretty docile, all things considered. Have you given much thought in how we’re going to actually communicate with it?”
Kel’vara thought about this for a while, her beak glowing softly as she played a little with the water in her bucket, causing the surface of the liquid to ripple in odd ways. “Ja’vail said that she was able to communicate pretty well with it while it was dreaming. The only problem with that is that it was
dreaming. I don’t know how dreams work with its species, but for dakri at least, anything that happens to our subconscious from outside forces is quickly forgotten. Bad dreams, flights of fancy, nothing to be taken seriously, or remembered.”
“I’ve been talking with the Captain of the Dreamguards about that too. He told me that we can’t rely upon that for communication, since we’re just as likely to get a straight answer as one about how the creature loves to eat its own pillow and ride a dragon made of Twirly Whirlys,” Valros said, stretching his wings a little and grunting with discomfort. The knight quickly brought his arm close to his chest, searching the broad wing until he found the feather that had been giving him trouble, and quickly put it back into its proper place.
Kel’vara found herself staring a little as the knight preened himself, before she turned away, her feathers fluffing a little in embarrassment. “Yes, and… ah, and in addition, the creature won’t be as weak as when we fished it from the river. It has an ǣon level spirit, after all, regardless of any actual ability it may or may not possess. We’ll be lucky to be able to intrude on its dreams at all.”
If Valros noticed her discomfort, he didn’t show it. Instead, he stood up and made his way to the window. “I remember the Sunrise Tribe had something to communicate, but it was mainly used to control their apprentices during ǣon training. It was supposed to be able to cross language barriers, but I don’t think we want to be dredging up the old ways…”
Kel’vara shuddered a little. “Those ways were barbaric.”
Valros nodded at her, but did not say anything as he stared out the window. “I suppose the only choice we have is to slowly teach the thing how to speak.”
“That’s not as easy as it sounds, though,” Kel’vara said, shaking her head. Valros looked at her, one of his brows raised, prompting her to continue. “When I treated his wounds, I ran a number of tests on him. He’s showing the symptoms of someone who has been transmuted into another shape entirely, except that he has no binding spellform keeping him in that shape.”
Valros looked confused at this. “You’ll have to forgive me, M'lady, but my knowledge of magic is somewhat limited to a handful of combat spells. You’ll have to use less formal terms with me.”
Kel’vara rolled her eyes a little, then used her magic to pull the water from the bucket again. With a thought, she caused the water to take on the shape of a dragon again. “With magic, it is possible to force something to assume another shape or state. Such as turning a dragon into a pig.” With a little exertion, the water took on the desired shape. “I’ll not bore you with the details, but things… well, they remember what they were. Always. If the spell is not properly maintained, the spellform will eventually fall apart, and the thing will revert. This is because things want to return to their old state. They’ll continue chipping away at the spellform, increasing the difficulty of keeping things in their altered state, until it grows beyond the mage’s ability to control. It’s why you cannot turn copper into gold and have it stay that way, or why you cannot turn dirt into food without accidentally poisoning someone.”
“Or purposefully poisoning someone,” Valros pointed out. “I remember history class at least. That happened quite a number of times during the Clan Wars.”
“It was a popular method of assassination, yes, but the old ruling class quickly caught on, and began screening their food before eating.” Kel’vara furrowed her eyes as she twisted the water to appear like the creature. “Whatever the bug-like aliens did to the creature, it didn’t involve magic. ‘The creature’s shape isn’t his own,’ if you remember what the queen told us. It’s entirely possible that it’s lost the ability to speak, even in its own language.”
Valros thought about this for a time. “Well, can’t we turn it back? Reverse the changes, and return it to its original shape?”
Kel’vara thought about this for a little bit, but shook her head. “It’s… possible, but there are so many unknowns. I was even afraid of using regeneration magic on him when I healed him. I had to resort to sealing spells to repair the damage.”
Valros looked confused. “I’m not sure I follow. I thought you healed it up pretty good.”
“I didn’t heal it at
all. All I did was fuse its skin together, and do some very basic repair based on that strategy, to keep it from bleeding internally or externally. It’s why I still applied bandages, in case those wounds reopened; I couldn’t risk regenerating it,” Kel’vara explained, her voice both pained and exasperated.
Valros still didn’t understand what the fuss was about, though. “Why not? What’s the big deal if you use a little regeneration? And what does this have to do with changing it back?”
“
Everything!” Kel’vara said, standing up in anger as she rubbed both hands through her crest. In response, the water in her grip twisted and flowed into strange shapes, a clear reflection of the tormented state of the battlemage’s mind. “This is an entirely unknown scenario, with an entirely unknown species! The spell to do this doesn’t even exist! All we have are spells to change something into something else, not to return something to its original shape. The way we would do this if this were a magical affliction would be to simply collapse the spellform, but this isn’t magic! If I were to try to change it back, any number of things could go wrong, the least being the creature dies a quick, painful death as it turns completely inside out! The closest I can come up with is the regeneration spell, which would force accelerated cell mitosis using the target’s remembered form, not its changed form. If I did use regeneration, it is entirely possible that the creature might revert…”
“...But?” Valros asked, knowing that there was a but in there somewhere.
“But the creature’s body might start attacking itself, killing itself from the inside out! The two different sets of genetic material might merge, making it into something even more monstrous than it is now! Any number of things could go wrong!” Kel’vara shouted, the water next to her turning into some kind of lumbering beast, whose basic shape only vaguely resembled the creature in the forest.
Valros held up his hands in a placating gesture. “Okay, okay, I get it. It’s probably a bad idea… but what do we do, then?”
Kel’vara collapsed into her chair, the water that she had been shaping falling into the bucket at the same time. “I don’t know… I really don’t know…”
Valros rubbed the back of his neck. “Well, there’s always pictures and trying to teach it to read…”
“That would take even longer than just teaching it to talk,” Kel’vara said dismissively. “Especially since it probably can’t-”
Before Kel’vara finished, a voice chimed in, interrupting her thought process. It seemed to be coming from the lieutenant’s belt pouch, and based on the tone of the speaker’s voice, whatever it was was urgent. “Sir Valros! Are you there?”
Valros quickly pulled out his whispering stone and gave it a squeeze, worry building in his heart. “What’s wrong, Calis?”
He almost wished he hadn’t asked, because what Calis said next turned his insides to ice. “Sir, I’m relaying a message. Viar and his drakes need backup, and they need it now. It’s those bug aliens the queen told us about. They’re here.”

Intro
To preface this review, I just need to say that this is going to be a very, long read. Going through it myself just for the fun of it takes around 30 minutes — it's almost 7k words of text, including lyrical references. So for the best experience, listen to the album beforehand to understand what the hell I was thinking when I wrote this review, play the album while reading, and set a good amount of time aside.
And yes, this is 9 months late 😭 I'm not sorry — when I find an album review online it's always around a paragraph per song or even shorter. It makes sense from a journalistic perspective, but I want to do this album justice, hence taking 7 months to write out all my thoughts.
This shit is comprehensive and definitely overanalyzed, especially in
Talk that Talk and
Trouble. Each song review will compose of my commentary going over the song, noting the details I noticed through months of listening, then a conclusion. Also, mild swearing warning, I like implementing a touch of "French" when I'm very
emotional about something. Anyway, onto the review!

TELL ME WHAT YOU WANT TELL ME WHAT YOU NEED
Talk that Talk 🎙
Lead producer: collapsedone
One of the most perfect TWICE songs.
I think this is one of TWICE’s best-sounding title tracks. Warm modulated synths, a thrumming bass line, distant bells, shimmering synths — the purpose of this song is to be fun and my god is it excellent at it, like… Sana and Chaeyoung are saying knock-knock-knock and beep-beep-beep as if they’re some kind of car. So much fun.
Further along in the verse, Dahyun’s voice sounds so full and smooth with that layered harmony. Tzuyu coming with the
Yes or Yes,
Push & Pull, and
1 to 10 references — these are 5 years of song references. And Jeongyeon closes the pre-chorus accompanied by a rising synth to drop into chorus one. Jeongyeon slays pre-choruses.
The drums accelerate, the synths start blasting, and Jihyo opens to that party of a chorus with her godly vocals,
Tell me what you want
Tell me what you need
A to Z da malhaebwa
But shijageun ireoke have
Talk that talk ttak han madi
Talk that talk L-O-V-E
deullyeojweo ooh
Now now now now now yeah~
During Sana's
Talk that Talk~ lines there’s this gentle ascending synth bell that rings with the descending melody and it sounds absolutely gorgeous. And the choreography during that part of the chorus is so so so so fun: the talking hands bit, spelling
L-O-V-E, concluding with the
deullyeojweo ooh! Oh my Jihyo the
deullyeojweo ooh…
Have I mentioned this song is fun?
Speeding through verse 2; Chaeyoung’s part with the cat ears popping in the music video is adorable; Momo her stretching her arms out looks so damn cool; and Dahyun with her replay part sounds so lovely — although I think it sonically sounds a touch random, it makes sense thematically.
And now for this pre-chorus. Mina and Jihyo leading into it sound great BUT JEONGYEON… Now, she is my ult bias, and this pre-chorus sounds almost identical to the first one, but the way she holds that final note, enunciating and holding that
now~ for one more beat before the chorus drops sounds so perfect — the song teeters on a cliff edge. Jeongyeon slays pre-choruses.
Dropping into the second chorus and man, Jihyo powered through that first chorus, but the way Nayeon delivers it just hits different. She has this indescribable “pop” voice (I promise this wasn't on purpose) that stands out and shouts
this is THE chorus. I think this is especially apparent in how both lead their choruses where Jihyo starts at 120% power while Nayeon waits until [
Tell me]
WHAT YOU WANT to full-send it. She also highlights “
malhaebwa” in a similar way later in the chorus.
Another
deullyeojweo ooh! Nayeon travels to Narnia, and Mina the engineer strikes again in this heavenly, underwater-esque bridge,
The simple words “I love you”
That’s all I wanna hear
Without hesitation, I’ll go up to you
I’ll make it simple
And just tell you I love you
The word “
love” is said for the first time in the song. There’s a funky keyboard instrument behind Chaeyoung’s part. Jihyo, Chaeyoung, and Nayeon take the initiative in their lyrics, professing their love before closing the bridge.
And now for the pièce-de-résistance: this final double chorus is exceptional — 40 seconds of crack-laced euphoria; Jihyo switches up the chorus and the choreo, Dahyun chimes in with her fluttery “
Talk that Talk”, Momo comes out of nowhere with “
oh yeah it sounds so good!” — you’re damn right it does, and this is where the song SOARS.
han beon deo~ haejweo
geurae banggeum geu mal~
Nayeon outright shouts “
Tell me what you need” and then Jeongyeon sings the above lines in such an ethereal, warm way where the first line ascends while the second line descends, causing a lull in the song before the finale with Nayeon, finishing off the song with the final
deullyeojweo ooh! What a party. What a song.
THE GOOD
- The synths of all time
- The chimes during Talk-that-talk~
- Jeongyeon’s pre-chorus going into Nayeon’s chorus
- The entirety of that magical, final chorus and outro
Needs Work
- The opening hook (Tell me what you want) and accompanying choreography could be “catchier”
Core Memory
- Singing (and dancing) my heart out when this song played at a K-pop club
Lyrics and theme-wise, if this were to have been TWICE’s last comeback, they’ve once again built upon the theme they've been doing since debut: a Bildungsroman, a coming-of-age story.
This song’s chorus is honest yet simple; it asks the listener, in this case, the other half of the relationship, to be more upfront and open with their love (never be scared of love), that before the relationship can continue and flourish there has to be a foundation and commitment of love between each other.
TWICE debuted with a song about making your crush go
ooh ahh. Years later, they started pondering “
What is love?” and imagining their crush responding with “
yes” when asking them out — and now concluding with the phrase “
Talk that talk, [talk that] L-O-V-E”, being upfront with the relationship, wishing their partner to also be happy, to commit to them, to feel the love that they want to impart on them. From gawking like ooh-ahh to talking out your shared love like adults — to having a true relationship between (one and) two.
And can I just say before finishing off
Talk that Talk's review that this is such a fun and repeatable song with many little intricacies hidden in the nonet’s vocals and the production. This is the third draft I’m writing about
Talk that Talk and its original word count pretty much quadrupled.
Harkening back to TWICE’s roots by combining mature thinking with youthful character, an incredible ending to look forward to, and just simply being a club-banger that’s easy to listen to,
TTT is an easy 10/10.
WATCH ME GO WATCH ME GO RULE THE WORLD
Queen of Hearts 👑
Lead producer: LDN Noise of SM
If there was one B-side to promote in a live clip, this was a solid choice.
Helmed by LDN Noise going headlong into the Western boy-group rock-band aesthetic, Queen of Hearts is a boom-boom-clap song through and through. The drums are very prominent throughout the song, only giving room to riffs of electric guitar in the chorus to drive and continue the momentum of the music.
And speaking of the chorus, vocal line each got a chorus to flex and they did not fuck around,
You ain’t ready for it
Watch me go~ watch me go~
Rule the world
Know you never doubted baby
I’mma go run the whole universe~
Cymbals crashing, drums booming, and 3MIX belting all just so sound so good.
Baby I was born to rule~~
Yeah I’m the queen, I’m the queen
And it’s all because of you~~
That I’m the Queen of Hearts
These long, held-out notes performed by Jihyo and Nayeon are simply exquisite. Along with the shredding guitar, the drum set coming in full, and the interludes by Dahyun, Momo, and Chaeyoung, this is the part of the song that always,
always, gives me goosebumps — it sounds so visceral, so energetic, so fun, so triumphant. Boom-boom-clap songs can be hit or miss with people, but there's no denying the payoff from the first part of the chorus to the second part is worth the wait.
The theme of the song so far has been kind of spread around the song. The chorus alludes to it with the line "
And it’s all because of you." But Mina shows more sides of it in the second verse, especially with the phrase,
And now that I’m surrounded by all my girls
We be shining bright like diamonds and pearls
It sounds really lovely — in a very cheesy and affectionate kind of way, as it rightfully should — the song is about the girls and their fans. But the bridge is where the song indeed shows its colours
Screaming out my name
See it in the stage lights
Feel so lucky just to have ya
Cause I know deep down I was meant for something bigger! Greater!
I know you’re seeing what I see
Yeah I’ll be everything you need
I know I’m gonna walk the walk
And talk the talk to be~ [the Queen of Hearts]
This is a song CONCEIVED TO BE PERFORMED FOR THE FANS. It’s meant to be loud. It’s meant to be unapologetic. It’s meant to be sappy. And it’s all the more wonderful for it.
This is the TWICEiest shit ever.

Talk that Talk, Queen of Hearts also has a killer closer. The production already started to grow from the bridge, but now the guitarist finally went Super Saiyan and instead of supporting the drums, they both take the centrepiece in tandem.
Then finally, the closing moments of the song even manage to squeeze in some more sappiness.
So thank you for the memories
You’re all the ones who made me~
So thank you for the memories
That I’m the Queen of Hearts
I still can’t believe that this banger is a FAN SONG out of all things. Truly, the TWICEiest shit ever.
THE GOOD
- Adorable fucking lyrics
- Unrelenting, roaring chorus
- English and vocal flex
- Addicting guitar riffs
Needs Work
- Chaeyoung rapping in English in their Korean songs somehow slaps harder than her English rapping in their English songs, nonetheless, in QoH, it fits with the sound of the song
Life Highlight
- Walking home from a K-pop festival with this song playing, felt like a Queen of Hearts
I love these types of rock songs with how grunge and head-bang-able they are, there is just a certain nostalgic and cheesy quality to them that feels so cozy. I don’t love putting them on repeat, because in this case, I do believe there is such a thing as too much of a good thing. Perhaps more shredding, maybe a guitar solo to rock out to, or an accompaniment(!) of ad-libs from 3MIX to support Jihyo’s final chorus? A ONCE can dream of a truly bombastic rock song from TWICE. But then again that distracts from the core of what this song is: a fan song disguised as a rock song.
Queen of Hearts has so much sweetness in its lyrics and message that it's overflowing. The drums, guitar, and vocals can be as loud and intricate as they can, but the theme of this song is what makes it special from TWICE’s other rock songs — it’s a 9/10 for me.
I WANNA WANNA WANNA TAKE YOU TO THE BASICS
Basics 🌈
Sole lyricist credit: Chaeyoung
Quite possibly the jammiest (pun intended) song of the album.
A song written by the Strawberry Princess herself — an event similar in frequency to other artists' releases with her last song being 2020’s silky
Handle It —
Basics first starts with an understated and dreamy delivery. After the first stanza, however, a bouncy Miami bass line emerges, revealing the true nature of the song: this is a classic summer bop! Especially in the first rap,
dareun aedeulgwaneun dalla
Ain’t beggin’ for love
nappeun geon anijana ige naraseo
eodiro twilji molla
Like rainbow bubble gum
geureoni nal kkwak butjabadweo
Syllables are pronounced in a relaxed nature, bars often starting with an "
ah" sound, flirty lines in English — this rap features a production full of pop with R&B flourishes and, in my opinion, this is Chaeyoung’s bag. Also, the line "
rainbow bubblegum" is so adorable and so Chaeyoung.
I wanna wanna wanna take it to the basics
da weonhae weonhae weonhae? seodureuji ma Baby
ppeonhae ppeonhae malhae mweohae da al tende
Ah yeah ah yeah ah yeah ah yeah
That chorus is pure pop with a Miami bass backing; you better be bopping your head to the melody, if not booty poppin' to the bassline. Chaeyoung loves rhyming in the first half of the chorus to enhance its catchiness and it's damn incredible: the “
wanna”, “
weonhae”, and “
ppeonhae” all create these imperfect rhymes that continue momentum without feeling repetitive.
After the very
Boy With Luv-sounding “
ah yeah ah yeah, ah yeah ah yeah” comes an 8-bar split half and half between Chaeyoung and Momo. Coming from the chorus, the production completely cuts out for the first 2 bars. This adds tension; the song yearns to have that bass beat thumping again and all we have in the audio space in those 2 bars is Chaeyoung spittin' and she delivered.
taneun deut tteugeoun samak wie
yeppeuge pieonan jangmi gata
joshimseure naege dagaol ttae
nado moreuge jjilleobeoril tende
Translating to:
Above the hot, burning desert
It’s like a rose that bloomed beautifully
When you come to me slowly
I will prick you unconsciously
The rap feels slick, effortless, and confident. Her diction remains sharp when enunciating each syllable but she doesn’t let the flow of her rap waver or build as her 4 bars go by, it’s just smooth consistency throughout. Even the lyrics possess an aura of laid-back collectedness that is just so her. The things Chaeyoung can do when given her pen.
THE GOOD
- That sweet summer vibe of a chorus
- The “spaceship” post-chorus is killer
- Chaeyoung devoured this song
- Sure-footed, confident lyrics
Needs Work
- Perhaps an alteration of that ah yeah ah yeah line
- The way Jihyo did her pre-chorus line is good, but Mina’s is great
Core Memory
- After donating my hair, walking down the rainbow-coloured areas of downtown Toronto with this song playing was very… fitting
This song is summer bliss distilled into 2:56. It’s dreamy, the raps are satisfying, and the ending is charming. I will say that although the second half of the song adds the stunning “spaceship” post-choruses and a floaty bridge with an incredible drumbeat drop into the final chorus, the raps of the song make it feel a bit front-loaded. And in an album stacked with awesome finishers, it feels more apparent.
With that said, it’s an 8/10 bop for me. This song is so easy to put on and it feels exactly what Chaeyoung would make if given the reins to produce a pop song all on her own. The lyrics are nonchalant but full of conviction, the wordplay is intricate, and the production playful but not too bombastic — it's just a nice vibe. Songs like
Basics are the standard for good, simple, repeatable pop music and I’m happy that Chaeyoung got to test her pen in this genre.
BABY WE’RE IN TROUBLE TROUBLE
Trouble 💃
Sole lyricist credit: Jihyo
Background vocals: Jihyo
Lead composer credit: Jihyo
Vocal director credit: Jihyo (an assumption given her contributions in
First Time)
One of the most enjoyable songs I’ve heard in a while.
There is an underlying tension within the first 4 bars of the song, Jihyo and Nayeon confidently open it to a nondescript array of synths and then the stanza ends, Momo announces “
Let’s go”, the beat drops and it hits you: this is a club song.
Dahyun's relaxed delivery contrasted with Jeongyeon's staccato flow, the wobbly synth beat with sprinkle of house piano, Sana dramatically slowing down the song only for Tzuyu to build it back up until the chorus drops,
- Nayeon opens it using a breathy tone, with vocal chops serving as harmonies
- The blooming of the house piano takes centre stage and the song ascends into euphoria
- A random drum roll capped off by a cymbal crash
- Jeongyeon’s pronunciation of the word “trouble” almost being a growl
- Chaeyoung slyly admitting “I like this trouble”
- The entirety of Tzuyu’s tro~oh~oh~ouble yeah~
- Sana using her deep voice for the na~na~na~na
- Jihyo leading the vocals during the synchronized T W I C E chant
This chorus is perfect. Toronto’s residential market needs this song injected into its veins because god damn this song has SO much house in it. And then, ANOTHER KILLING PART: this rap fucking slaps.
gamchweo bwatja geugeon Fake
ppajin hamjeongeun Sweet cake
During the first 2 bars, Chaeyoung is keeping it calm because that trip of a chorus just ended and the song needs a breather, but I don't think anyone expected her to
SNAP this hard afterwards:
You cannot resist this
Cannot miss this, such a bliss
Ima put it down down
Oh yeah, better kiss kiss
Below is the structure of her this portion of the rap, I’m not that well versed in this technical aspect of music theory but I digress, this is all in the span of around 5 seconds where it’s:
Triplet-triplet
Quadruplet-triplet
Quadruplet-doublet
Doublet-quadruplet
Now, 25/5 = 5 syllables per second isn’t groundbreaking, but goddamn it these 2 bars sound so nice — if there is one part in this album that I always repeat, it’s this. The addition of that first quadruplet for “
cannot miss this” in the midst of the triplets sticks out and accelerates the flow of the rap while the following doublets and quadruplets destabilize and slow the rap down as the verse closes. And can I just point out:
THE MAIN VOCALIST WROTE, DIRECTED, AND COMPOSED THIS SONG ‼ Chaeyoung of course delivered the fuck out of her verse but THIS is what you get when you have a member not only write the words they’re saying but also the melody and flow with which they sing it, when that member knows the others so well that when they write a song they know how to make the group exceed. This is what you get when the artists you stan love doing artist shit.
And.
AND. That's not all — with how much I mentioned I love a good outro to close a song, this outro slaps as well:
Woo wee woo wee woo
I like this trouble be-be
Woo wee woo wee woo
I like this trouble bay-be
Woo wee woo wee woo
I like this trouble bay-beh
Woo wee woo wee woo
I like this trou-ble
Like, come on, Nayeon’s imitating a police siren for crying out loud. And this is all after her ad-libs in the final post-chorus; after the pianist going full tilt and playing that piano as if it was their last chance to ever play; after that final
T W I C E chant by all the members come these blissful 20 seconds at the very end. What a song.
THE GOOD
- The theme of relishing in an uncontrolled love
- Sana and Mina’s melody in the pre-chorus
- Chorus
- Rap
- Outro
- Wees and woos
Needs Work
- Mina’s line of “falling down, falling down, falling down low” in verse 2 feels a bit too abrupt of a change
Core Memory
- While writing Trouble's review I had this song on repeat for my whole subway commute and I must've been so distracting, just head-bopping and being so invested in enjoying a song
Need I say more, easy 9/10. The only reason I place
Talk that Talk above
Trouble is because of what that song represents but besides that, this is one of the best “international” sounds they’ve put out. Actually, I haven’t listened to
Eyes wide open in a while but this song is up there with one of the most sonically pleasing pieces of work they’ve done.
Clubbing TWICE has always been a thing since
TT was birthed in 2016, and has been a staple of their discography since 2019’s
Fancy You and
Feel Special mini albums, but
Trouble unapologetically dives into and fits the house genre so well you’d think that this is TWICE’s bread and butter sound.
Trouble is Jihyo’s magnum opus. What a song.
BRAVE BRAVE BRAVE FOR YOU
Brave 💖
Main producer: Slow Rabbit of HYBE
I first thought this was just a good song, then I read the lyrics.
Gentle guitar plucks, shimmering synths, a distant keyboard in the right ear, in the left a glockenspiel, the melodic
oohs from the members — this song is
PRETTY.
The night that was unusually dark
Above this terrifying world, felt so lonely
The world has grown in the time of wandering
So hard to breathe
Mina and Chaeyoung open the song with how they feel lonely and that it's hard to breathe and now suddenly the song feels bittersweet — I was not expecting the song to be this emotional.
Brave describes a situation where the singer is in a darker place in life and it isn't until another person gives them hope by calling them 'brave' that they find the drive to keep going.
Once the chorus hits, the melodies pick up, more guitars get added — there’s even an electric guitar hidden in the mix somewhere, and the song drops the emotional front to reveal a mid-tempo pop song to dance to while crying in the club. The song as a whole still carries this melancholy feeling, but now with the added support of this chorus acting as a light amongst the gloom.
Continuing on in the second verse there's this gorgeous, well-placed break in the song that just lets it settle after that chorus. Only a seasoned producer would risk this much empty space in a song and Slow Rabbit went to fill those shoes.
Back to the chorus, I'll take this moment to once again commend Slow Rabbit with the mixing of the song, because 4MIX undoubtedly sounds good in the chorus, and the interludes from Dahyun, Chaeyoung, and Mina also sound really good, but the clear highlight of the choruses are these lines:
Oh na na na neon nal naige hae [Momo, then Tzuyu, then Momo]
On and on and on
Brave brave brave for ya [Dahyun, then Chaeyoung, then Mina]
Oh na na na neon nal sum shwige hae [Sana, then Momo, then Sana]
On and on and on oh trust me babe
Momo, Sana, and Tzuyu form this beautiful, surprisingly catchy, second half of the chorus accompanied by a guitar drop. It should not turn out this well with how conflicting the "
na"s are with the guitar melody but it creates this gentle bopping ebb and flow that feels so lush and mellow.
Diving into the bridge reveals that the listener of the song is revealed not only capable of supporting the singer through direct words but also through their thoughts and dreams. As can be discerned, this can be a song interpreted to be about ONCEs, about how they push TWICE to be their best selves despite the breathless hardships they face. It's a very sweet and touching song.
THE GOOD
- Special lyrics
- Pleasant sound to vibe out to
- That gentle break after the first chorus
- Jihyo’s high note at the end
- A Nayeon Jeongyeon joint high note ⁉️
- Just pretty vocals throughout
Needs Work
- Potentially hard to comprehend without translating the Korean lyrics
Core Memory
- Form of Therapy’s life motto revolves around the word “brave”. I don’t know where I got that from, but I remembered it right before watching his album reaction
I’m actually spoiled with the TWICE members’ easy-to-understand songwriting that when a song like this pops up where it's not written by a member and the thematic bits are mostly in Korean, I tend to put it aside in favour of the other songs on the album. And, especially for a song focusing on a theme like this where the English phrases don’t do the Korean lyrics enough justice, it does place a bit of a barrier on the listening experience, dropping it down to a 7/10 from an 8/10.
With that anecdote out of the way, this song is just such a vibe, man. I know that sounds super hippy to say but
Brave is so mellow and smooth that I can’t help but sway a little when that chorus hits. And then I remember what the lyrics say and I tear up a bit on the inside. This song is so pure, raw, and full of heart — we need more songs like these where they just reminisce about life while putting up an upbeat front. Don't mind me just crying while dancing the night away.
With that said, this isn't the first time this theme has been sung by TWICE either, they've long trodden this path of supportive, confiding, up-lifting songs with
Young & Wild,
Rainbow,
Queen,
Go Hard, Depend on You, even this album's
Queen of Hearts, and, of course,
Feel Special.
Brave just adds another on top of an already stacked lineup, unique with its mellow somberness.
Also now feels like a good time to get into my rating system:
- 7/10s are songs are ones that are simply good throughout or great songs with apparent flaws
- 8/10s are great songs with standout characteristics
- 9/10s are borderline perfect songs where I sometimes can't comprehend how great they are
- And 10/10s are the best of an artist's discography, songs that encapsulate their ethos perfectly or expand upon them in a meaningful way
I SEE THE LIES ON THE TIP OF YOUR TONGUE
Gone 💨
Sole lyricist credit: Dahyun
Who the fuck pissed off Dubu this time??
It’s getting quite rare to see TWICE pull off brand new sounds because, with now 190 original songs under their belt, they’ve done so many genres and sub-genres varying from hyper pop, to bossa nova, to whatever 2020’s
Go Hard is. So it’s surprising to see they’ve still got tricks up their sleeves and
Gone is one of them.
The song starts with strings swinging back and forth and vocal chops dancing from ear to ear, teasing what’s yet to come. Jihyo enters the song with a whisper and the song sets its pace. A stagnant drum pad moves the song along and typical song progression would have Mina continue the build but — it doesn’t. The song simmers, adding a hint of high hat to the pot. And then, Sana and Tzuyu come on and surely the buildup must boil over right?
Silence, until…
I see the LIES on the top of your tongue
The strings emerge again on full blast, the simmer rolls to a boil, and the anger of the song is revealed,
All the fate I had towards you
Fades like a fog, gone, gone
Your flipping mind of doing this and that
I’m tired of it, it’s meaningless
In the beginning, it was hard to believe
With that, hatred increases
The singer is so scorned and burned from this relationship that they reminisce about all the effort they’ve put in since the beginning, but their “partner” is so unconcerned that they’ve just about had enough of the relationship altogether.
This has been Dahyun’s thing since 2020’s
Bring It Back, 2021’s
Cruel, 2022’s
That’s all I’m saying, and even 2023's
Don't Blame It On Me — emotionally charged breakup songs that make you feel as if she’s gone through a dozen bad relationships. Dispatch, do your job better, or don't.
Another highlight of the song is the post-chorus going into the bridge. This segment reiterates the structure from the first post-chorus — a barrage of drums supported by the rhythmic strumming of a bass guitar along with a consistent synth filling out the soundscape. But this time, it’s Dahyun and Chaeyoung on the rap:
I can’t stand it anymore [Dahyun]
My patience, invisible
I can’t find it, it’s all gone
Even if I try to turn back, it’s too late [Chaeyoung]
There’s no use anymore
It has left, it’s long gone
You, with flipping mind, you are out [Momo]
I know that you know what I’m talking about [Dahyun]
Nothing you could say that could turn this around
I’m gone
Continuing the disrespected theme of the song, Dahyun notes that she’s finally had enough with Chaeyoung adding that there’s no point salvaging what was once there for all of it is long gone. Momo and Dahyun round it off by telling the listener that there’s no point trying to reason with them or playing naive, they fucked up and there’s no coming back.
Can I just say, it's a bit of a shame that Chaeyoung’s rapping popped off in this album while Dahyun only has this one verse that she shares with Chaeyoung, but it just sounds so good how Dahyun eases in after the chorus with her light rapping tone transitioning into her singing. She even holds the “
gone” in a little crescendo for some added pizzazz.
And, there’s no way I’m not going to talk about Momo’s vocals in this bridge. Damned if she only got 1 line to use it in, her lower register is incredible. She sounds so smooth singing in this tone. All of TWICE do in particular and there is nary a weak vocal performance in this album.
To close the song off, a wash of synths gets to have their shine in the spotlight, showered with Nayeon’s belting, signifying the dramatic and drawn-out conclusion of this partnership.
THE GOOD
- They’ve still got their surprises
- Thundering chorus
- 2nd rap and bridge combo
- A bitter, crumbling relationship theme
Needs Work
- I’m not a huge fan of the mixing during the first post-chorus, where Momo's vocals were fighting with the production, which is disappointing because Momo is capable of an insane flow
- The post-chorus in general, specifically the first one, can be a bit tiring on repeat listens
Core Memory
- Actually, I think this song sounds like a mix between GOT7's Not By The Moon, BLACKPINK’s Love To Hate Me, and Dahyun’s Bring It Back. I don’t know where I got this thought came from, but it stuck
Going back to that point about the first post-chorus as a whole; songs that have the production continue unchanged into the post-chorus/2nd verse are very hit or miss for me — see TWICE's
Don't Call Me Again for an overbearing example. The post-chorus going into the bridge contrasts Dahyun’s light tone nicely with the hard-hitting production, continuing the energy until it slowly fades into silence at the end of the bridge.
Back to the song as a whole, as much as TWICE has been experimenting with their sound for the past 4 years now, I’m happy they’re still finding new ways to explore what they’re capable of. And for that alone, even though I’m not a big fan of songs like these where they rely on sounding “big”, Dahyun’s lyricism and the thrill I receive every time I indulge myself in this song when I listen to it for the first time in a while elevates it to an 8/10. Keep on breaking hearts, Dubu.
INVINCIBLE SUPERHEROES
When We Were Kids 🧸
Sole lyricist credit: Dahyun
Press play to reminisce, pull up lyrics to cry.
This song is so beautiful. I’m totally not writing this song review, crying on the bus reminiscing about my childhood, while just having turned 21. I don’t know if these are happy or sad tears but this song is so beautiful either way.
Warm synths, muted piano, a gentle high hat, the younger members starting off the song — this has to be up there for one of the softest TWICE songs ever. And as it should, it’s one of the TWICEiest songs ever. And then Nayeon comes in,
Invincible superheroes, we wanted to be adults
To the higher, clearer world
The chords start swelling, the high hat keeps pace, and the harmonies come in,
Remember when we were kids
When we were kids, we didn’t know
If we could go back
I will love it even more
Remember when we were kids
Jihyo takes up the second half of the chorus as it drops, trading the strings for an almost R&B synth production — if choir R&B takes off, this song started it. The song relishes in this cacophony of warm sounds until returning to its sparse and peaceful verses.
This time, the hints of piano are louder, little twinkling synths begin to shimmer, the drum buildup comes and Jeongyeon drives the song straight into the chorus. No time for the strings to build like in Nayeon’s — this song loves its chorus so much.
And I'll just take this time to appreciate the amount of Jeongyeon vocals in this album. Her voice is so clean, stable, and projected — but also more tender and soft compared to the more pronounced tones of Nayeon and Jihyo.
The bridge comes in, repeating the phrase:
I wish that I could meet
Could meet the younger me
Giving the song time to rest, before building back up to the last chorus — this time led by Jihyo, completing the 3MIX trifecta. And interestingly enough, Chaeyoung follows up in the second half of the chorus, rather than another member of the vocal line. She really did pop off in this album.
As the last chorus begins to close, the percussion at its strongest, the harmonies on blast, the background vocals cranked up to their Sunday best, is the song going to end? Of course not! This is an album full of banger endings as if the songs don’t want to end, and
When We Were Kids being the album closer very much indulges in that feeling.
After a brief refrain, accented by Nayeon’s high note with a touch of vibrato, the song almost dives back into a fourth chorus. Nayeon and Jeongyeon harmonize — a rare and heavenly moment. And the song repeats the bridge, reiterating that they want to meet their younger selves, this time with the lush chorus production before closing with silence, a few piano notes, and Tzuyu singing the last line of the song:
Oh, we were kids
Reflection, acceptance, hope. What a song.
THE GOOD
- Heavenly vocals throughout
- Relatable, heartfelt lyrics
- Euphoric chorus
- Great closer to the album
Needs Work
- Refrain after the last chorus, "Back when we were kids," could’ve been executed better
Core Memory
- For an album titled Between 1&2, I don’t think anything hits harder than finishing the song reviews, with this song in particular, during your 21st birthday
I wrote the first part of this review in November 2022. Then university, life, and other things got in the way of my headspace for me to feel confident about wrapping all of this up. In a way, I felt like I just didn’t want this review to end because of the joy that writing gives me — I didn’t want the happiness to end. And then it hit me, after watching a YouTuber rank animated movies and them placing
Spirited Away at the top and explaining 'why' reminded me of just how important growing up is, and by extension this song.
This theme is important for both the rookie TWICE members in 2015 and the teenagers who would follow their journey and grow up with them, facing life’s obstacles along the way. Hardships that used to only involve family, crushes, and social media, evolve into work, commitments and all the struggles that adult life brings. Being a kid and enjoying the simple things in life is one of the most sought-after moments we want to relive because we took growing up for granted. The only thing we can do now is look back on ourselves with fondness and rose-tinted lenses.
TWICE’s original marketing was to resonate with people through their senses and their hearts. That was during their debut, and I think it still holds up today. In my opinion, touching people through their emotions is what TWICE does best and makes them one of K-pop’s all-time greats. It was never about having the best numbers — it was always about being the best idols. And to think that this journey of maturation and growth would occur from 2015 all the way to this song, being a fitting nod to TWICE’s 7th anniversary, I don’t think anyone at the company nor the group would ever imagine that they would get this far. It’s these nine women or none — 9/10.
This song honestly deserves a 10/10 with how much I noticed other people reminiscing their childhoods after I heard this song, it is such a widely-relatable message, but I am determined to limit myself to one 10/10 song per album and if I were to pick between
TTT and WWWK, I'd give it to the one's that's more repeatable —
Talk that Talk just has this electric energy about it.
Epilogue
And finally here is the end. If you made it in one sitting then I commend you, because I could not write this mess in one sitting. As alluded to, I started writing this album review sometime in October, after a series of edits the first draft was finished in March, and now here's the final draft in June.
I love this album. It got me through some important parts of my life, both good and bad, and it's just a wonderful listen throughout. Reliving this album again before finally completing the review has been an exciting journey.
Brave hit me harder this time, after being overshadowed by the other gems of this album, and
WWWK finally got me to tear up and not just be emotionally satisfied.
I feel like there's something for everyone on this album. From the exhilarating thrills of
TTT to the anthemic euphoria of
QoH, the clubbing dichotomy of
Trouble and
Brave to the blissful glee of
Basics, and the sweet reminiscence of
WWWK to the thundering anger that is
Gone. Like
Eyes wide open, I liken
Between 1&2 to a pop music taste platter — there's such an eclectic mix of pop, music in this album that there's bound to be a song that someone will love, like, and dislike.
Is this album perfect? I don't think so, but it's close — it was certainly my 2022 AOTY. Was this review biased? Absolutely. I've been a fan since 2019 and with the themes in this album, I also feel like it was biased towards me as a ONCE. And how would I rank the album in TWICE's catalogue? It's honestly at the top, at least with EPs — I also felt that way towards
Feel Special but then this album was birthed so I'm excited for TWICE's future.
Ready To Be was also a stunning album and
Eyes wide open frankly also deserved the spotlight that
Formula of Love received so I might hit those next but no promises; this album took long enough to bake.
As for the performances, I've only seen Twitter clips (no fancams to not spoil myself) and I am SO EXCITED to finally see them in July.
QoH was as glorious as expected,
Brave was a delightful surprise, and
WWWK, while not being the concert closer everyone expected it to be, paired up nicely with
Crazy Stupid Love. And of course the bombastic addition of the dance break to
TTT. But, this is not a concert review, and this is where this album review ends.
Feel free to comment with any thoughts regarding the album, other TWICE albums, and any suggestions for my writing in general. Congrats again on making it this far!
God, I love this album.

2023.06.03 22:54 Arr0zyhabichuela My Top 5 Fantasy Telltale Games
5.Men In Black
It wouldn't affect me if I never get this. But I do think the world of Men In Black would be fun and interesting to explore in the Telltale format
4.Suicide Squad
I realize it could be a complicated thing. Would it be something new or would it just be a spin off of the season 2 Batman squad that Waller puts together? Who would you play as? Once you get those things out of the way, I think it's a masterpiece waiting to happen
3.Tho Loki
Idk whether I'd want to play a hero game as Thor, or if I wanna make choices as a God of Mischief. Either way it's definitely a game I'd love to play. If i'm Thor, i'm playing with a Loki bias. If i'm Loki, i'm gonna take care of my mama & try to stab Odin. The throne will come eventually
2.Red Dead Redemption
Rdr2 came into my life after I kicked my Telltale addiction. I'd mentally insert decisions or dialogue choices to part of the game. And after recently revisiting TWD season 1, there's no doubt in my mind that whether you're Arthur Morgan, John Marston or Dutch Van Der Linde himself, the Van Der Linde gang would be perfect for the Telltale stage
1.Batman Season 3 & 4
I will admit, I have somewhat of a rough draft of what the story would be in my head. Now nothing ever works out so perfectly that someone else's creation falls completely in line with my fantasy, but if we can get 50 to 60% of what's in my head for a season 3 & a season 4 finale, I'd willingly doom my Knicks & Yankees to another 10 years of failure

2023.06.03 22:50 Vahir [Online] [5E] [Monday 6PM EST] Looking for a player for a Forge of Fury -> Red Hand of Doom
Do you enjoy old school modules? Do you like to crawl through dungeons and snatch loot out of the cold dead hands of your enemies? Do you really, really hate goblins?
If so, I have a campaign that might interest you! The core of the campaign will be Red Hand of Doom, a war-focused (think Lord of the Rings or Dragon Age Origins) struggle of good against evil. In the lead up to it, I have prepared the Sunless Citadel and the Forge of Fury, two very dungeon crawl heavy modules.
This is an existing campaign, and I'm looking to fill an empty slot. We've already run through the Sunless Citadel, and we're just about to start the Forge of Fury. Some points to consider:
- We play at 6:30 PM (Eastern time) on mondays, on average twice a month (every other week or so).
- We play on Roll20 and use discord for out of game stuff.
- Write Red Hand of Doom at the top of your pm to me if you're interested in joining.
- By popular demand, we roll for stats during character creation.
- I aim to keep our group size at 5 people.
- The level range for this campaign will be 3-12.
- I run the modules mostly as written, and they tend to be deadly. I also enjoy running challenging campaigns; if combat isn't your jam, or you don't want to risk your character dying, this campaign might not be a great fit.
- These are modules I'm running, and while I'm putting my own spin on them to set up a cohesive story and react to player input at the end of the day the focus is on plot, not characters. Those who are looking for a very RP heavy or character subplot focused campaign might not enjoy this one.
- On the other hand, I discourage fanatical optimizers, and I expect players to be able and willing to RP.
- Characters are limited to core rules.
- Some houserules are used (ex: flanking).
Feel free to shoot me a pm if you are interested or have any questions.

2023.06.03 22:49 Dexushun32 20 part magic item based on Sung Jinwoo
Quick context: My friend who is new to dnd but have done some playing, asked me to create a character for him based of sung jinwoo from solo leveling. I said its going to be hard because while sung jinwoo controlling a millions of shadow soldiers in dnd you mostly can contorl like 20 in combat, then he said then do something and my adhd head started create the character(wizard) and this magic item that more likely a class in its self.
So this what i made its kinda like the beta version of it because its still missing stat blocks, etc.
So here it is:
--------------------------------------------------
Seals of a Forgotten God
Category: Wondrous Item (Tattoo), Multipart magic item
Item Rarity: Artifact (Growing)
Attunement: To use the seals you need attune to it. Its takes up to 3 attunement slots(or 2 if the dm allow it)
--------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------
Growing magic item lvl:
1 seal = 1 lvl
5 seal's = 5 lvl
10 seal's = 10 lvl
15 seal's = 15 lvl
20 seal's = 20 lvl
--------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------
Major Seals:
- Seal of The Loyal Knight (Igris) / 5 charges / hit points: 1d10+con modifieper lvl / Ruler's Touch
- Seal of The Singing Zodaic (Tusk) / 5 charges / hit points: 1d6+con modifieper lvl / Hymn of the 12 zodaic

Each Major Seal have special summons, each special has is own stat block and abilites.
Special summons have conciseness and there own personality.
Every special summon have regenetive ability to regain hp. You can expand 1 charge of the seal or spell slots to regain 2d4+2. If you expand more charges or spell slots(maximum 4 times).
1 charge/spell slot = 2d4+2
2 charge/spell slot = 4d4+4

2023.06.03 22:46 Annbom I kinda don't like the codex. It's both too streamlined and not streamlined enough.
I am playing an ice sorceress. My primary damage dealing skill is "Ice Splinters". Roughly 45 minutes into the game the dungeon "Dead Man's Dredge" is available. Click it in the codex and it will mark the path to it. Complete it and you unlock "aspect of piecing cold" then.... that's it. That is the thing you will use until the end of the game 100 hours later.
If any other legendary weapon drops it will either not be that and you will trash or sell it OR it will be a duplicate of that with slightly stronger rolls. In which case you will use it and be marginally stronger for a few levels before going back to the codex version.
I feel like I wish the codex was more interactive. I wish is wasn't so static. I wish I felt like I was building up something, or something was getting stronger. I don't like that I'm applying the exact same thing hour 30 as hour 1 (and will be applying it at hour 300). I wish every legendary I found was leveling it up, or using it a lot was leveling up droprates to find more higher end versions, or if I knew later I'd be trading it out for something better or SOMETHING.
Even on this second day I feel like I'm already sick of running to the enchanter every time I find a new staff (or... running to the gem guy to extract my gems, then to the blacksmith to level it up, then to the enchanter to put the same aspect back on that I already have)
God, please either make this a more interesting and dynamic, make it so I can run harder and harder dungeons to unlock better versions or something, or make it more streamlined and make it so every staff I pick up just has this for the rest of the game.

2023.06.03 22:31 Nhein9101 Just picked up a Demon Prince, and I’m hyped!
Honestly was on the doom train with the previews. But the things shown at the KC open restored my faith in nurgle!
I already have 2k of DG but was lacking a demon prince, now I can’t be more excited to try this bad boy out.
Side note: love that GW is diversifying the different DPs between each god/undivided

Then, the Eternal Truth seized and drew more strongly to Himself her desire, doing as He did in the Old Testament, for when the sacrifice was offered to God, a fire descended and drew to Him the sacrifice that was acceptable to Him; so did the sweet Truth to that soul, in sending down the fire of the clemency of the Holy Spirit, seizing the sacrifice of desire that she made of herself, saying: "Do you not know, dear daughter, that all the sufferings, which the soul endures, or can endure, in this life, are insufficient to punish one smallest fault, because the offense, being done to Me, who am the Infinite Good, calls for an infinite satisfaction? However, I wish that you should know, that not all the pains that are given to men in this life are given as punishments, but as corrections, in order to chastise a son when he offends; though it is true that both the guilt and the penalty can be expiated by the desire of the soul, that is, by true contrition, not through the finite pain endured, but through the infinite desire; because God, who is infinite, wishes for infinite love and infinite grief. Infinite grief I wish from My creature in two ways: in one way, through her sorrow for her own sins, which she has committed against Me her Creator; in the other way, through her sorrow for the sins which she sees her neighbors commit against Me. Of such as these, inasmuch as they have infinite desire, that is, are joined to Me by an affection of love, and therefore grieve when they offend Me, or see Me offended, their every pain, whether spiritual or corporeal, from wherever it may come, receives infinite merit, and satisfies for a guilt which deserved an infinite penalty, although their works are finite and done in finite time; but, inasmuch as they possess the virtue of desire, and sustain their suffering with desire, and contrition, and infinite displeasure against their guilt, their pain is held worthy. Paul explained this when he said: If I had the tongues of angels, and if I knew the things of the future and gave my body to be burned, and have not love, it would be worth nothing to me. The glorious Apostle thus shows that finite works are not valid, either as punishment or recompense, without the condiment of the affection of love. Lesson to self: We tend to think of sin in terms of size; big sin, little sin and so on but God’s dialogue to Saint Catherine suggests there's a greater perspective on sin. Christ's statement to Pilate, "Therefore, he that hath delivered me to thee hath the greater sin." shows us the idea of big sin, little sin is valid but that was Christ measuring out sin, not fallen men judging from fallen world perspective. In God’s dialogue to Saint Catherine, He acknowledges big sin, little sin but only to clarify that no sin, big or little can be requited for by finite pains, sufferings or penances. All our sin, regardless of size, has infinite consequences that echo outward from our small, finite perspective. Since our sin has infinite consequences it affects our infinite God which is why He reacted by sacrificing Himself on the cross. Our sin reverberates through time, causing negative reactions from those we hurt, who then respond with more negative reactions, and so on. Every sin we commit causes a negative spiritual chain reaction that reaches into God's infinite eternity. This is why God tells Saint Catherine that even the smallest, most finite fault against God, who is infinitely Good, demands infinite satisfaction. Sin has infinite consequences and must be requited for by infinite penance which seems to leave us doomed since being finite creatures, we cannot offer infinite penance. But in God's dialogue to Saint Catherine, he goes on to speak of an infinite love for him and an infinite grief for our sins against him. Both of these things grow out of an innate and spiritual magnetism our spirit already has for God, that mysterious Spirit whom we instinctively sense as our Creator. This natural, sometimes subconscious pull we have toward God is the Infinite Desire Saint Catherine speaks of, originating from God's Indwelling Presence, the calm, sometimes subliminal voice of God making himself known to us and igniting the Infinite Desire. And this Infinite Desire for God empowers us to break through our finite disposition to connect with God's infinite nature. This is when the finite pains and penances we endure for our sins take on an infinite quality and touch the Merciful, Sacred Heart of Jesus Christ. The finite pains and penances we endure for our sins are worthless unless divinely empowered by Infinite Desire for God. But once ignited by the Infinite Desire that connects us to the Infinite God, that soul "receives infinite merit, and satisfies for a guilt which deserved an infinite penalty," because even though, "their works are finite and done in finite time; but, inasmuch as they possess the virtue of desire, and sustain their suffering with desire, and contrition, and infinite displeasure against their guilt, their pain is held worthy." Pray for us Saint Catherine, that by the gift of the Infinite Desire for God, our finite pains, sufferings, and penances may achieve infinite measure, and be held worthy through Christ our Savior as an acceptable sacrifice against all sin committed against his Holy Name. submitted by artoriuslacomus to Catholicism [link] [comments] |

2023.06.03 22:11 Fancy_Leader6278 Once you reach pinnacle cap, there should be an option for either an exotic from a weekly or an eveverse engram.
Now hold on for a sec and listen cause i think im actually on to something.
As someone who loves fashion in destiny and emotes. I would love to get them somehow other than just bright dust items and eveverse engrams.
Hence why i recommend bungie to give us the option of weekly engrams from activities being either an exotic engram or eveverse engram, of course this would only be when you have reached powerful/pinnacle cap. This would cause more players to play those weekly's and do them for cosmetic stuff as after you have your god roll exotic armor and have pinnacle cap reached, theres really no point in doing weekly's.
And remember, eveverse engrams dont have brand new stuff, they have stuff from two season ago and more. Meaning more players play core activities but bungie does not lose out on silver purchases that are new stuff.
I think this would be a great way to make more players play those activities as a lot of players already have their god rolls and best builds, im pretty sure something similar was like this in d1 where we would get loot boxes for weekly and daily stuff.
As someone who plays this game on the daily for about two to three hours minimal, this would be a nice change of pace and would make me wait for reset even more, knowing i can get new stuff.

2023.06.03 22:07 -BigBadBeef- How to cheese melee skills faster - guide!
I just found this out recently - its a high risk, high reward strat for leveling melee weapons skills as fast as possible. In case any of you are interested, these points should explain the gist of it.
- For each skill you intend to level, it applies the following:
Stack as many damage and crit debuffs as possible, Maxed out tired and exhausted moodles are minimum, but avoid debuffs that affect your attack speed. You must be also skilled enough to pull a single zombie from a group far away from where the other people eating compatriots may not be able to assist him.
After you've done that, knock your zombie on the floor, then stand on his legs - STAND on the legs, don't just aim at them (I could explain to you why, but it's complicated), then bash at the zombie's legs as fast as possible. You will notice that your ground hit animation is quite a bit faster than if you were hitting on destructible objects as some suggest. There are a few exceptions, but just keep hammering at the grounded zombie until all the shitty weapons you gathered give out or the zombie does, in which case you rinse and repeat.
These tips should help you get a general idea on how to level the melee skills. Now here are the weapons I recommend for leveling each skill: - AXE - Only use a crafted axe. Axes are worth their weight in gold since they are rare and useful for "real" zombie combat. Chipped stones and branches can easily be foraged, thus these axes can easily be crafted.
- LONG BLUNT - Use planks or gardening tools, or maybe 2x4 if you have the mod. There are not many shitty blunt weapons to my knowledge, only if you have weapon mods installed, then you can crack a plank to get a 2x4 which has god-awful damage per hit. If you're using gardening tools, go crazy, but spare the shovel, you need it for farming.
- SHORT BLUNT - Plungers and rolling pins lol. Technically speaking, you can use whatever you find in the kitchen and bathroom, but saucepans and frying pans are actually useful in real zombie combat, while they don't do as much damage as proper hammers, they have the same chance to knock down zombies as hammers do.
- LONG BLADE - There are no bad Long blade weapons I'm afraid. You should only use this strat if you're modded and have easy access to long blade weapons.
- ! SHORT BLADE ! - Use spoons and pens. This one is an exception. since the ground stab animation is slower than poking a zombie standing, you do not want to knock the zombie down, but rather keep stabbing him standing
- SPEARS - Umbrellas lol, and spears crafted from branches with no attachments. The only truly bad spear weapon is the umbrella, but these aren't common. Make spears from branches, not planks since you can never have enough planks for carpentry, and only use disposable knives or rocks to craft them. You'll be going through them fast, thus you want to be economical with making them.
- MAINTENANCE - Just use my recommended weapons for each type and maintenance will go up on its own. If you're using shitty weapons with low durability then leveling maintenance is no biggie.
That's it. that's all that is to it. You will want to swing those weapons as fast as possible and hurt a target for valid melee xp as little as possible, and this guide just about sums it up. Its a little bit dangerous, but oh so sweet once you master it!

2023.06.03 22:01 the_celt_ Christians should be keeping the Law: The Acts 15 Council of Jerusalem story proves that the Law is for us today.
This article has been broken up into sections to make it easier to read. If you want to SKIP to the main argument, then just jump to the section titled "
Common Modern Christian Teachings that Acts 15 Refutes". If you find something there that interests you or angers you, you might want to put some effort into reading the rest of the article. Come visit us at our new subreddit to learn more: FollowJesusObeyTorah --- We're not Lawless! We're Just Against Obeying the Law! ---
You have heard that it was said, "Acts 15 PROVES that obeying the Law is not for Christians today", but verily I say unto you, "Nope! The exact opposite is true".
The Council of Jerusalem proves that Torah obedience is 100% valid and vital for everyone today.
If you're like most people, you have heard a greatly abused quote from Acts 15 that people pull out to oppose anyone that claims that we're supposed to imitate the way that Jesus lived, and keep God's commandments. People commonly respond, "What are these Judaizers even thinking, to suggest such a thing? We're not Jewish, are we?"
Then they try to prove it with this quote:
Now then, why do you try to test God by putting on the necks of Gentiles a yoke that neither we nor our ancestors have been able to bear? No! We believe it is through the grace of our Lord Jesus that we are saved, just as they are.
So maybe you're thinking, "Take that, Judaizers! Anyone that can hear that quote, and still think it's reasonable to obey the Law, is just ignoring scripture!"
Well, you might think that, but you'd be wrong. It's not that easy. It's time to stop isolating this quote and start dealing with the context.
--- Let's Keep This in Context. Are We Saved by Works? ---
The context is this: The story starts with this quote which shows why the Council of Jerusalem was held in the first place:
Certain people came down from Judea to Antioch and were teaching the believers: “Unless you are circumcised, according to the custom taught by Moses, you cannot be saved.”
These "certain people" were very likely the evil "Judaizers" that were following around behind Paul, trying to undo the great things that Yahweh was doing through Paul.
Let's establish something very important right up front: Everyone in history that's ever been saved was saved the exact same way, by faith. There IS no other way. There's never been another way. Abraham was saved the same way that you and I are saved today.
You might reasonably ask: If every great person in scripture was saved the same way, and every one of those people ALSO kept God's Torah, than doesn't that seem to indicate that Torah and salvation by faith actually go very well together?
Yes, it does.
What those Judaizers were doing was telling new converts that there was ANOTHER way, other than faith. They whispered in people's ears saying that you could be saved by obeying Torah, or what is commonly called "works".
Were those Judaizers right? Of course not. Works prove your faith is alive (not dead), but works have never saved anyone. Remember, there's only one way, and that's faith. The Judaizers were liars. They did something worse than putting the cart before the horse. They killed the horse!
--- They're Savages, Savages! Dirty Shrieking Devils! ---
The Council of Jerusalem was at a crucial time in history. Our Father had just done an amazing thing by grafting Gentiles into the mighty Olive Tree of Israel. Suddenly all the Jews were surrounded by Gentiles (who they considered, to varying degrees, to be disgusting) and they had to GET ALONG with the Gentiles because everyone was unified in the fact that Jesus is the Messiah and our future King.
So let me tell you, there were some hot and heavy debates on how much these dirty Gentiles had to do right away (these are the key words) to get cleaned up to God's standards. This is what the Council of Jerusalem was all about, and that's why it was recorded in scripture for us to read about today.
Let's focus on who these people were, these "Gentiles".
They were ex-Pagans. They were newly converted. They had received the Holy Spirit (verse 8). As ex-Pagans they were used to a lifestyle that you and I can barely imagine today. It was very likely a life of orgies, drug use, idolatry... THE WORKS. For the long-time Jews, who had been keeping Torah for 1000's of years, these Gentiles were the worst people they could imagine.
But, they all agreed on Jesus.
How do you make these two groups, who were all saved the same way (the only way), get along with each other? Did the Jews need to get rid of God's commandments and learn to live like the Gentiles? Was the Law gone, now that everyone had the Holy Spirit? If you listen to what the Council decided the answer is clearly, "No!"
No, the Gentiles had to learn to live like the Jews had been living for 1000's of years at that point. The new converts had to start keeping God's ways, not their own ways. They had to walk the path of righteousness and start growing the fruit that proves our faith is genuine.
They were already saved, but being saved is the starting point, not the ending point, on the path of righteousness. I feel like I should repeat that sentence again, but you can just re-read it. It's important.
--- Let's Start With 4 or "Ya' Gotta Start Somewhere, Don'tcha?" ---
As I already stated up top, the Council was convened to combat the non-scriptural and ultimately evil premise that these Gentiles had to be circumcised to be saved. The Council immediately nixed the circumcision, and any other idea that works lead to salvation. This is what they meant in that part that so many Christians love to quote about the "yoke". The yoke was the lie put forward by the Judaizers that someone could keep Torah perfectly enough that they would be saved.
That's an impossible yolk, folks! Don't put that thing on your neck!
Instead, the Council wisely chose 4 PERSONALIZED starter commandments from Torah. They chose the commandments that would shoot the Gentile's Paganism right in the head. They chose to get rid of the orgies (sexual immorality) and the idolatry.
You have to start somewhere, right?
After living the standard Christian lifestyle for many decades, God opened up my eyes to the fact that His Torah is absolutely still required. I can tell you from experience: You can't go from 0 to 60 with the commandments. I tried. There's too many of them, and it's confusing at first to know how to keep them. It's years later now for me, and I still feel like I barely know what I'm doing, but it's one of the best things that ever happened to me. I finally found the path.
These Pagans started so much further away from the target than I did. They were soooo far away from God's standard, which is Jesus. They had a lot to learn. Isn't it quite a wonder to imagine the road that they had ahead of them, as they loved God and learned to keep His ways?
--- BOOM! ---
Please, when you're reading this story of what the Council decided, do NOT miss the atomic bomb that is in verse 21. This is probably something you never saw before, or if you did, you never really thought about it. Here it is:
For the law of Moses has been preached in every city from the earliest times and is read in the synagogues on every Sabbath.
They concluded their list of 4 personalized starter commandments from Torah by saying that the rest of the commandments can easily be learned later, as they are being taught constantly in the synagogues. They concluded that ALL of Torah will come later, over time. How has this verse been ignored for so long?
--- Common Modern Christian Teachings That Acts 15 Refutes ---
Maybe you can see now that Acts 15 PROVES that Torah-obedience is still required for us today? Acts 15 is all Torah, all the time, coast-to-coast.
Or maybe you still can't see it? I'll try a bit harder to make sure that you do.
You just have to really think about those things you hear get said all the time by people that mostly have their heads filled with traditions of men, things heard in the pulpit, and who have never really thought it all through for themselves. It's time to change that.
Here are the things you will hear from modern Christians that Acts 15 absolutely refutes:
- Torah was given for Israel, and Gentiles don't have to obey it. (Oh? Then why did the Council give Gentiles Torah to obey? Please consider that we've been grafted in and that means that We. Are. Israel.)
- Jesus made all foods clean and the dietary laws are no longer applicable. (3 out of 4 commandments from the Council were dietary laws.)
- There are 3 Categories for Torah which are Civil, Ceremonial, and Moral. We only have to obey the Moral Category. (3 out of the 4 commandments from the Council were not from the "Moral Category". Also, those goofy categories are man-made and non-scriptural. Jesus used 2 categories, Love for God and Love for Neighbor. If you use the categories that Jesus used, it's a lot harder to pitch one of those categories into the trash, isn't it?)
- I have the Holy Spirit! I don't need any silly commandments anymore! I have the commandments written on my heart! (Those converts also had the Spirit, yet the Council still gave them Torah to obey. Apparently people with the Spirit still need to be taught Torah.)
- All of those references in the newer scriptures that say to keep the commandments are not referring to Torah. They're referring to the "Law of Christ"/the "Royal Law"/The 2 Greatest Commandments/The 10 Commandments/Something else. All of the commandments are "summed up" by groovy love! (Is that so? The Council didn't seem to know this, and instead gave those ex-Pagans 4 specific commandments from Torah that were not from any of those commandments you just mentioned. Why?)
- Keeping the commandments is an attempt to be saved by works. I am saved by grace! (The Gentiles were already saved and they had the Spirit. Did the Council not understand that you're trying to be saved by works if you keep Torah? Or are you perhaps wrong that Torah is in opposition to faith, and being saved?)
- Jesus fulfilled the Law! ("Fulfilled". You keep using that word, I do not think it means what you think it means. If you think "fulfilled" means anything like "finished" or "ended", than why did the Council give those new converts Torah to obey? Jesus fulfilled the Law like a man fulfills his wedding vows to his wife.)
- The Council CLEARLY stated that any attempts to obey Torah is putting a burden or a yoke on people which is impossible to bear! (You must not have been listening. If that's true, why did they agree to put a "burden" or a "yoke" on these newly converted Gentiles by giving them Torah to obey? Is there any chance that you're wrong about what that yoke really is?)
--- In Conclusion ---
Now do you see it?
Even if you can't, the number of people who CAN see it are quickly growing. Our Father is removing people's blindness. I hope you're one of them.
If anything about this has made you think that you're missing something by not obeying Torah, let me assure you that you are.
For those of you who generally believe the message of Christianity, but who also feel that there has to be something missing, because it still doesn't make sense (atheists, this means you) than this is it. Torah is the missing piece (honestly, it's more like the other half of the puzzle).
If you want to learn more, consider checking out our new subreddit, and we'll be glad to answer your questions and try to help you learn how to begin keeping our Father's ways.
For the law of Moses has been preached in every city from the earliest times and is taught regularly at FollowJesusObeyTorah.
I'll do my best to respond to any questions or comments in this thread, but I'll be generally avoiding anyone that's overly aggressive or who I think is acting in bad faith. That's just the way I roll. Also, please stay on topic. Stay in the ballpark of Acts 15.
May the Father use this article and my entire life to extend His will into more and more hearts, and to ultimately establish His Kingdom, which I pray will please come soon.

2023.06.03 21:43 Environmental-Wish53 I Cast Fist
As promised, the second one-shot of the day. This is the idea I had bouncing around in my head this past week. Now, onto the other actual story in a different universe. Tally Ho, Lads!!!!!!
~~~~~~~~~~
Magicians. Wizards. Sorcerers. Witches. Warlocks.
Supreme figures of power and authority. Renowned, respected, and feared across the galaxy. One spell cast from a middling rank alone is enough to collapse buildings. Novice rank figures are enough to cripple medium-sized towns, with Masters and above veritable threats to cities, nations, planets, and solar systems, depending on which rumor you wish to believe.
But above them all is a lone figure so strong, so fearless and brutal, that the mere whisper of their name is enough to cause the most hardened of magic duelists to tremble and quake.
No one knows where this figure came from. His origin is as mysterious and untraceable as the creators of the universe. Multiple divination attempts have been tried to uncover the secrecy surrounding this ominous individual. All have failed. All ended in a magical backlash so severe that it effectively crippled the diviners.
But every so often, when the rumors subside and the promising threat of this thing’s existence slips from memory and disappears into the vast streams of time, a wizard of legendary power steps up to the plate to assert their will over others.
More often than not, those who attempt to do so are stopped well before they can achieve their goals by other likeminded magicians, or independent groups that still fear the storng one's return.
The last recorded incident where the mysterious titan physically engaged with a galactic-level threat happened some two-thousand years ago. The far-reaching effects of that incident have yet to be forgotten by the select few "immortals" blessed, or cursed, with bearing witness to a sliver of such an event.
Such is the gravitas of this Savior.
But in the Year of Our Birth 8962.20 I, alone, bore witness to a fight between the Savior and his foe.
I could scarcely believe what was to come. Gods above, I couldn’t even comprehend the level of power soon to be casually thrown back and forth between the Tyrant and the Savior.
If the galaxy was a building, the terrible impacts and energy emanating from their blows would erase it from existence. Luckily, or perhaps through fate, the Savior set down a mysterious device that formed a protective bubble around me and bade me to stay within, lest I be erased as well.
Gulping loudly at the danger so calmly explained, I sat down and whispered a prayer to my Gods to watch over me and keep me safe from this monumental battle.
If they could, that is.
The Savior squared off with the Tyrant, his imposing suit of armor darker than the void. His helm smooth and perfect, with a visor the color of a raging sun. On his right thigh sat an odd device in the shape of an upside down “L”, if you pointed the long leg down and the short leg behind you.
It sat snugly in a carrier appearing to be made of the same material as his armor, while on his other thigh rested a small pouch with two slim rectangles stuck in a vertical position. Strapped around his waist was a knife sheathed in what looked like the remnants of a dying star, its handle made of a dark organic material the color of rust.
The more I observed the two facing each other, the more confused I became. Where the Savior appeared to be armored like a knight with unusual weaponry, the Tyrant was wearing robes typical of magical types, but there was something odd about the way they moved in thebreeze. Like they were alive.
The Savior’s voice broke my confusion, commanding silence from all so as to be heard.
“This is not the first time I have taken down someone like you.” He said. His voice firm like the mountain.
“It may not be” answered the Tyrant in a voice better served in a musical performance, “but where those insignificant worms were terrified of your mere existence, I have learned that you aren’t any special than that inferior thing hiding behind your shield.”
His revelation appeared to have no effect on the Savior, but that was because he was too far away to see his hand twitch ever so slightly.
Me, on the other hand, I don’t take insults very well. Call it a…quirk of a warrior race. In response to his provocation, I exposed my private bits and relieved myself on the ground.
In his direction…while making eye contact.
Clearly my provocation was more effective as a catastrophic ball of molten plasma struck the shield and exploded. I was unharmed, thankfully, but the ground around me turned into a large pond of boiling, glowing mud.
Yet over the fading sounds of the explosion, I could hear loud barking laughter. I turned to see the Savior doubled over letting out the most undignified sounds imaginable. “Hee”s and “Haw”s and “Haha”s filled the air, causing the Tyrant to grow ever more infuriated, yet still failing to act on the opportunity presenting itself to attack.
“Your disrespect astounds me, cur!” The Tyrant shouted. “You are no better than that savage animal that can’t even relieve themselves properly!!!”
The laughing slowly ebbed away until the tense silence returned.
“Well, I reckon I’ll just have to adjust your worldview. Maybe by smacking you upside the head with this here multi-tool.”
From out of seemingly nowhere, a short-handled shovel with a serrated edge appeared in his hand. Why the Savior called it a multi-tool baffled me as the shape clearly resembled the common shovel, just shorter.
“Ha! What do you think that peasant’s tool is going to do to me? I have conquered planets. Harnessed nebulas. Compressed supernovas into the size of a pebble.” As if on cue, a massive beam of energy was released from his hand.
I watched in slow motion as the beam crossed the distance between them and struck the Savior square in the chest.
Yet not a sound was heard. Nor was any damage seen. The man simply stood there and…absorbed it? I couldn’t believe my eyes! The power of the stars taken as if it was nothing more than a squirt of water.
“Ohhhh. That tickles. Been a long while since someone last shot me with a supernova.” He chuckled. “Not bad for an opening shot. Let’s see how you handle it.”
As fast as lightning, he drew the “L”-shaped object from its carrier and, using both hands, pointed it at the Tyrant. This was when I noticed there was a small lever on the bottom.
“I wonder what that’s fo-“
My thought ended as abruptly as it started when the same energy beam that came from the Tyrant shot out from the end of the device.
Almost as quick as the Savior, the Tyrant formed a shield around his body and attempted to sidestep the beam of power. It seems that unlike the Savior, ol’ Mr. Tyrant is only capable of dishing it out.
“How do you like them apples?” The Savior barked out as the Tyrant barely escaped his death.
“You…you…you absolute cowardly beast! How dare you steal my technique!!!” He shrieked. “Fight me properly, insolent whelp!”
“Oh buddy, I don’t think you want that. I’ve been keeping people like you in line for as far back as your records go.” The Savior brought his fist to his chin as if a solution presented itself.
“How about this, you give up and let me teach you how to be humble, making sure you put your power to good use instead of whatever it is you’re trying, and failing, to do.”
The Tyrant scoffed. “Are you seriously offering me the choice to grovel at your feet and learn humility?!?”
“It’s not a choice. You either give up, or you die.” Any brevity or light-heartedness left his voice. I felt the cold sensation of impending doom creep its way into my bones.
I have been on the receiving end of many threats and fights that easily could’ve ended my life, but this promised something else entirely.
Clearly the Tyrant understood the threat as well for it took him half a minute to formulate a response. A response in the form of a blinding flash of light and loud crashing of metal on metal.
Just as fast as the beam of energy before, the Tyrant crossed the distance and engaged in a brutal assault filled with deadly flurries of a cruel looking bladed weapon wreathed in the shadows of decay.
I watched as the Savior drew his own knife, revealing a glorious light that rivaled the sun. Its edge whipped like a barely restrained flame, reaching out at every opportunity to slake its thirst with the blood of the Tyrant.
Like an instructor teaching an unruly student a lesson, the Savior instantly turned the flow of the battle and expertly put the Tyrant on the defensive. Short, concise movements filled with immense unbridled power threatened to eviscerate the Tyrant’s body.
Beads of sweat poured from what parts of his face were exposed, revealing a smooth-skinned creature with two eyes, a pair of thin lips, and slimy skin.
“You’re one ugly motherfucker, you know that right?” The Savior’s offhand remark instilled a rage in the Tyrant yet to be seen. He let loose a wave of energy that forcibly threw them both hundreds of yards apart.
As they both appeared to size each other up once more, the light grew dim. I looked up and saw a massive meteor appear through a magical portal in the sky.
“Try to stop this, human.” With a single flick of his wrist the Tyrant sent the massive rock hurtling towards the Savior. A human, whatever that means.
I watched the object fly closer to its target and feared that despite the insane rumors surrounding the Savior, this would be the end of him.
I closed my eyes and prayed that he survives, for if he dies, I’ll be on the chopping block next.
I waited for the inevitable shock and awe of the meteor striking the ground, but it never came. I opened my eyes and saw a cloud of dust instead. In the middle of it all stood the Savior, proud and unfazed.
“The gloves are off now, kid.” He shouted ominously. “You wanted a ‘proper’ fight, well...you’re gonna get one.”
Now it was his turn to take the fight to the Tyrant. Almost as fast as his opponent, he shot forward and struck out with his knife, forcing the Tyrant to draw his blade once more and defend himself.
Except the Savior pulled out his “multi-tool” as well, and with a mighty CLANG he struck the side of his face and sent him careening into the nearby trees.
“Told you I’d be giving you an adjustment. Feel like giving up yet?”
I watched in awe as the Savior manhandled the Tyrant like he were a toy. There was no contest as to who would come out on top of this fight. Even with the destructive power wielded by the Tyrant.
“You…ack…you piece of shit. I’ll make you pay for…urgh…that.” The Tyrant drug himself out of the wreckage of trees and attempted to dust himself off. The Savior was having none of it though. He dashed forward once more and started his assault anew.
Using both the multi-tool and knife, he delivered a series of cuts and contusions and blunt force trauma that made me cringe.
He let go of his tool and used the free hand to grab the Tyrant, dragging his battered body back into the open.
With an unceremonious toss, the Tyrant found himself prone and facing towards the sky. The Savior strode over as confident as could be and picked up the creature once more.
“I told you to give up and let me show you how to be humble. I even said I’d make sure you’d put your power to good use. But nooOOoooOOO, you just had to stick to your guns.” He shook his head.
“Whatever. I’d be fine with beating you to a pulp and calling it a day, but you let slip that you know what I am. Meaning you likely know how to find others like me, including my home. You understand why I can’t let that happen, right?”
The Tyrant nodded weakly, fear evident in his eyes.
“Good. That makes this next part easier.” The Savior stood the Tyrant up and dusted him off.
“This will be my parting gift to you. As in, parts of you here, there, and waaaaayyyyy over yonder.” He pointed in the distance.
The Tyrant looked confused for the briefest of moments as he turned to follow the direction the Savior pointed, before the human reared back and swung his fist with all his might.
“I. CAST. FIST!!!”
2023.06.03 21:34 BAR0N_AL0HA Blizzard, please make clickable objects more noticeable!
In Diablo 3, it was very easy to tell which objects could be clicked vs those that couldn't be.
Not in this game. I'm doing a bunch of quests in Scosglen that require you to find objects in a large blue circular area and I'm running around in circles looking for them.
For the love of God, make these things POP when they are on screen.
Edit: This is an example of one such object....
https://imgur.com/tNsk3dE There is an outline when you mouse over them, but I wish there was an option to make all clickable objects have an outline whether you mouse over them or not. You basically have to roll your mouse cursor in a circle across the screen to find these things. This isn't the only quest where I've had this issue ether. Heck, even just regular chests could use something to make them stand out better.
