Last week, the developers at Ghost Ship Games released previews of a cosmetic DLC pack they planned on selling next month. The reaction to this cosmetic pack was mixed to say the least. People did not believe it was up to the usual quality standard of Ghost Ship Games. In light of that, this week, Ghost Ship Games released a new communications update on a central platform (Steam, with mirrored posts on Reddit and other forums).
They explained that the customers were right, and in light of that feedback, they had redone the cosmetics, with significantly improved details to make the guns stand out a lot more. They included a detailed video and image preview of the new cosmetics. And to top it all off, they promised to include both versions of the cosmetics in the upcoming content drop, with the old version of the paint job being included in the free update.
Note the steps taken in this communication.

1. Admission of the issue.
2. Detailed explanation of how the issue will be resolved, that leaves nothing to the imagination.

It is a simple formula. Only two steps. Of course, step 2 requires that a solution for the issue be in the works. Crucially, there were no announcements about the announcement. No "next week's" about how you'll hear more. No countdowns to patch notes. It is a strategy so simple, I'm only able to write this much about it. It is a good strategy. A strategy so good, that I, a very creative complainer and whiner, can't find anything to complain or whine about.
Now consider essentially 6 months of communication by Fat Shark. Let's track one issue. Crafting.

1. In the first month of release, communications largely promised that a complete crafting system was coming soon. Some week in December (2022, being implied).
   
2. What followed was a long period of chained in sequence "next week, we'll tell you more", cementing the phrase "next week" in darktide meme history.
   
3. Eventually, after Catfish assumes the duties of community manager, and to her enormous credit, we get the "open letter". This was perhaps the closest Fat Shark has had to having good communications. Unfortunately, old habits die hard. The open letter identified issues (incomplete crafting system; unsatisfying progression loop; poor performance optimization), and at least implied a solution (delaying seasonal content rollout and the xbox series xls launch, while suspending the upcoming releases of premium cosmetics; in order to have a "sole focus" on addressing feedback). Things are looking up. A new communications manager has taken over, and communications appear to be if not great, at least significantly improved.
   
4. Unfortunately, soon after this still somewhat vague letter, Fat Shark was back to its old habits. The crafting update came out, along with steady performance optimization. But open, candid communications slowly ceased. After the crafting update came out, Fat Shark has been virtually radio silent on the failure of that update to address the game's issues. If one were to go purely by communications by the company, it would be difficult to believe they even recognize those issues currently exist.
   
5. Since the crafting update, the only post by u/Fatshark_Catfish that I can identify which acknowledges crafting is an issue is this But we still have a real lack of actual communication. Outside this one post, barely any mention of any issues the game has.
   

So what can we learn about Fat Shark's communication strategy? If it doesn't involve outright lies (as it did in December 2022 when they promised a completed crafting system in December), it involves deliberate silence, and a refusal to acknowledge any issues. Apparently, if you don't admit your game has flaws, you don't have to address them.
Compare the two companies. I have a reasonable idea about what exactly GSG has been working on based on their release schedule and communications to players. I have no idea what Fat Shark has been working on. It is left to my imagination, and my imagination suspects they've just been focusing on a console port, past messaging to the contrary be damned. Even if they are working on the console port as their sole focus, them openly, honestly acknowledging this would be preferable to their attempt to string an entire community along with a drip feed of content while pretending they're doing their best.
You know what would be most preferable? If they could simply, openly, and honestly, state what the community's issues with the game are, and whether they plan to do anything about those issues. Even if the answer with respect to our example, crafting, is "no, while the community believes that is an issue, we do not", this answer would be preferable to their current strategy of "silence and let the community fester in false hope". It would be more respectful to the players that they need for this game to survive. It would treat people as actual customers, rather than products to be deceived.
To be clear, I don't think any of this is u/Fatshark_Catfish's fault. If anything, the open letter that occurred after she took over the community manager position indicates that she knows how to do her job right. And her continued silence in the face of the game's numerous issues is a policy set by management. So this is a fat shark problem, not a catfish problem. Fat Shark would do well to actually let catfish do her job, if that is correct.

The room exuded an air of danger, with walls adorned by weapons and framed photographs capturing the faces of past victims. The Baron, a commanding figure with a scarred face and piercing eyes, wore a tailored suit that conveyed authority and power.
Before him, a disheveled figure stood with his head bowed, trembling with fear. This man, once a trusted member of the organization, had been caught leaking vital information to law enforcement agencies. His betrayal had put the entire operation at risk, and The Baron's wrath knew no bounds.
The room was filled with hushed whispers and the nervous shuffling of the organization's members, who stood along the walls, their eyes fixed on the impending judgment about to unfold. The Baron's voice, calm and measured, sliced through the tension-laden atmosphere.
"Daniel," The Baron's deep voice echoed, the weight of his words hanging in the air. "You were a brother to us. We trusted you implicitly, gave you access to our innermost secrets. But now, you stand before me as a traitor."
Daniel's voice quivered as he pleaded for mercy, his eyes desperately searching for any hint of forgiveness in The Baron's steely gaze. "Boss, I... I didn't mean for this to happen. I was scared, cornered. They had evidence against me. Please, give me a chance to make it right."
A sinister smile crept across The Baron's face, betraying the darkness that resided within him. "Oh, Daniel, you misunderstand. This isn't about giving you a chance to make things right. This is about consequences, the price to be paid for your treachery."
As The Baron rose from his chair, the room fell into a heavy silence. His movements were deliberate and calculated, each step exuding an air of dominance and control. He reached for a hidden panel on the wall, revealing an assortment of weapons: knives, handguns, and other instruments of pain and destruction.
Daniel's eyes widened in terror as he realized the true nature of his impending fate. His pleas for mercy grew more desperate, but The Baron remained unyielding. He approached Daniel slowly, deliberately selecting a gleaming silver knife from the assortment, its cold blade reflecting the dim light.
With a sudden flash of movement, The Baron struck, driving the knife deep into Daniel's chest. The room erupted with a gasp of collective horror, but The Baron's expression remained resolute, unmoved by the spectacle of blood and anguish before him. He withdrew the knife, and Daniel's lifeless body crumpled to the floor.
The Baron cast a commanding gaze over his subordinates, his voice cutting through the horrified silence. "Let this be a reminder to all who dare to betray our organization. Loyalty is not a commodity to be taken lightly. Those who betray us shall meet the same fate."
As the members of the criminal organization absorbed the chilling message, their fear mingled with a newfound understanding of the leader they followed. In that room, amidst the destruction of a mole, The Baron solidified his position of power, a figure to be both revered and feared in the criminal underworld.

So I fucked up. Sent in my AACOMAS (5/27) and AMCAS (5/30) primaries in, have already started pre-writing my secondaries, and have been really on my game this cycle (I applied back in 2021-22 with no luck). But today I got a message from UNE saying that they didn't have my MCAT scores. I go on AACOMAS and see my score plain as day, so I reply saying that maybe there's an interface issue. They then tell me that the earliest score they accept is from Jan 2021. I took my MCAT Sept 2020. I just checked and about half the schools I applied to won't accept my score. I did pretty good on my first exam and graduated 3 years ago: this news has been crushing. I totally acknowledge that this was my fault and I should've been more careful, but now what's done is done. I registered to retake in August, but I feel like there's no way I'm going to be able to replicate my old results. Any advice? Anyone have any luck in getting an exam that's just barely expired as acceptable? Anyone want to take it for me?

As for Katie, she had a bit of experience in that regard.
She was stranded on the planet along two other men, their transport ship had been struck my asteroids and the escape pods landed in a jungle. Fighting the mosquitoes and other diseases was hard, but they kept on living.
As time passed by, Katie fell in love Todd, whose nickname was Dweeb. Living on this hostile planet wasn't as bad as they all initially thought. They managed to create a decent base where they could live a decent life, it was comfortable enough for Katie and Dweeb that they got married and had a child together : Newton. Katie was slightly annoyed by her husband's proposition, but she conceded with a chuckle.
"You're such a Dweeb." she joked to her husband who laughed with her.
Life was good and the colony grew, and the struggles of the beginning were slowly fading away. No one was starving anymore, no one was sleeping on the floor, nor would they contract infections.
Unfortunately, a group of raiders had set their eyes on the colony's wealth and launched an assault. All able bodies were drafted to defend the colony, their home. By sheer bad luck, Todd caught a bullet in the head, destroying a good chunk of his face. He fell back, his body automatically spasming out, his legs kicking the dirt. Sadly, he quickly bled out before the medic could reach him.
After hours of combat, the colony survived, with one member gone. Katie was devastated for a few days. She was often seen sulking or eating alone in her now empty bedroom. Her grief disappeared when another colonist approached her, he listened to her and lent his shoulder for her to cry. His name was Kyphis, a traveling bard who decided to stay with the colony. His smile was infectious and soon, Katie began smiling again, even laughing at Kyphis' jokes.
Weeks passed by and the wounds closed in Katie's heart, enough to start dating Kyphis and become his fiancee. And yet, before the man could propose, an alarm rang throughout the camp. All able bodies were to man the defenses. Another raid from an hostile faction.
This time, the attackers had separated in two groups, one drawing the attention while the other was flanking the defenders. Newton was playing in the colony's playground where the raiders were coming through. The 5-year-old couldn't really flee, Kyphis knew it and ran to rescue the boy. Newton may not have been his own son, but he was still someone dear to his wife. He carried him to safety, but not without catching a few bullets in his leg and back. With a wincing face, the man limped towards the medical center, leaving behind trails of blood. And yet, as if fate had other plans for the caution man, Katie's fiancee died in front of the hospital, being ambushed by a sneaking raider.
The attack was repelled, but one colonist had lost his life. The woman was yet again devastated, her stomach was churning and she couldn't help but spent hours crying at the grave of her passed lovers.
Despite her sorrow, she wanted to feel better and decided to talk with more people, trying to forget her sadness. And a few weeks later, Katie was dating Theodore, but for reasons unknown to her, the man broke up with her. The man had heard of her previous lovers and he was superstitious enough to completely stop seeing her. She was obviously upset by the sudden turn of event, but maybe it was for the better? An hour later, as if a malevolent god was watching, Newton was savaged by a cobra. The child was exploring the jungle after sneaking out of his mother's sight.
The pain, the guilt, the sorrow, the despair, all rushed out. She screamed out of all these emotions before her mind going blank.
Katie went catatonic, not moving for months. Her mind and body couldn't take it anymore.

We know the lifestream is consistent between the worlds, as the souls of Emet Selch and Elidibus find their way back to the Source's aetherial sea eventually, and that in all worlds but the Thirteenth, Zodiark's aether rejoined the natural cycle. The entire Isle of val popped through the lifestream itself, though there were of course a billion problems with that. On top of this, Y'shtola has never cast Flow successfully, and the first time it came with severe drawbacks.
   
2. She creates a method of opening rifts from the Thirteenth - suspiciously similar to Taynor's Hollows, which prompts an optional dialogue if you've completed the 5.3 role quest wrap up. Y'shtola gets very mad for you holding this information back for years.
   
3. The Sharlayan's prototype aetheryte. Normal aetherytes still function, the other scions simply can't warp back because they haven't attuned their corporeal aether to the ones on the First. In comes the aetheryte we used to launch ourselves to Thavnair. No attunement needed! Send the materials and instructions with the WoL and fire your scion railgun. Possibly too far a distance or the aether sickness would be killer?
   
4. Some other nonsense way, like utilizing dynamis in the way that connects the Ragnarok in Ultima Thule with the one in Sharlayan, or a plan to cause a mini-rejoining .

Hi, we are a group of 5 who have been playing D&D weekly together for ~5 years and we’re looking for a DM to run a second game for us, this way we can finally all get to play together instead of one of us having to run.
This will come with the opportunity to play in our weekly game which usually starts GMT 5:00-6:00pm Saturdays.
Our group leans towards roleplay and enjoy deep storytelling, preferring combat encounters that are relevant to the story. Typically we build characters to mesh with the world/setting so a strong session zero or one-on-one character building would be great and hopefully give you a fun cast of characters to run for.
We run our own Foundry serveare happy to play on Roll20, D&D is the preferred system but we're flexible on the edition, and new/less experienced DMs are more than welcome.

Arcanemigration ch4 Room to grow
As I sit at the edge of a stream near the entrance of my cave i Cast my gaze upon the tranquil scenery, I realize that it holds a newfound significance for me. It has provided me with sustenance, a source of water, and now a temporary respite from the stress of constant work. The fish continue their rhythmic dance in the water.
I reach for my fishing spear, determined to catch a meal to replenish my strength. As I prepare to strike, I hear a faint rustling from the nearby bushes. Instinctively, I grip the spear tighter and scan the surroundings. The eyes of the goblins still haunt my thoughts, reminding me that danger lurks even in the most peaceful moments.
Instead of a goblin that emerges from the brush. It is a creature unlike any I have encountered before—a majestic white pearlescent stag with antlers that seem to reach towards the heavens. Its eyes are filled swirling waves of a blue wisdom and a green of serenity that I have rarely witnessed.
The stag approaches the stream, its graceful movements leaving me in awe. It drinks from the water with a glowing reflection shimmering in the gentle ripples. I watch in silence, a mix of reverence and curiosity stirring within me. Could this be a sign? A guiding presence in this harsh world?
The stag lifts its head, its gaze meeting mine. For a brief moment, time stands still. And then, as if acknowledging my presence, it takes a step closer, its hooves barely making a sound on the soft earth.
In that moment, a realization dawns upon me. The goblins, the battles, the struggle to survive—they are but a small part of a much greater tapestry of the journey to come. There are forces at play beyond my comprehension, and while they may not have taken notice of my deeds, they have sent me a message through this ethereal encounter.
I lower my spear, a newfound sense of purpose coursing through my veins. I will not only defend this sanctuary against the goblin hordes but also strive to understand the mysteries that surround me. I will seek knowledge, forge alliances, and uncover the truths that lie hidden within this world.
With renewed determination, I set my sights on fortifying the cave, transforming it into a stronghold that not only protects me but also serves as a beacon of resilience and defiance. The goblins may still pose a threat, but I am no longer just a survivor—I am a warrior with a purpose.
The stag watches me closely and thoughtfully As I prepare to embark on this new chapter, I offer my silent gratitude to the creature before it gracefully disappears into the depths of the forest.
The journey ahead will be arduous, and the trials I face will test my strength, both physical and spiritual. I may be alone but With the spirit of the stag guiding me, and the scars of my past battles etched into my flesh, I step forward, ready to face whatever challenges lie ahead.
I am the defender of this sanctuary, the seeker of truths, and the embodiment of resilience. And as I move forward, I carry with me the wisdom of the stag and the unwavering determination to protect what is mine.
Inside the cave, I take stock of my resources. Though limited, they are enough to begin the task at hand. And get to work smoothing down the hard stone again until it is the right shape. Then heat up the rock in my fore and then drip cold water along the edge to shatter bits off to make a sharp edge. Then I find the largest bone in the bone pile seemingly a femur and with some work and supplies I bind them together. Lastly I char the bone to seal it.

Using this makeshift tool, I venture into the surrounding forest, seeking sturdy trees suitable for reinforcement. With each swing of the axe, I feel a sense of empowerment. It is not just the physical act of cutting wood but also the symbol of taking control over my environment. I am no longer at the mercy of nature; I am the one shaping my destiny.
The axe bites into the wood, and with each felled tree, I feel like it's getting easier. Then chopping the tree into logs and branches. I gather logs and branches, forming a stockpile near the cave entrance. I return multiple times, driven by a relentless determination to create a formidable barrier against any future onslaught. I also collect large rocks from the nearby riverbed, utilizing them to strengthen the cave's entrance.
Hours turn into days as I toil, the sweat mingling with the dirt on my brow. With each passing moment, the cave transforms into a sanctuary that reflects my resilience. The once-vulnerable entrance is now fortified with thick logs and sturdy rocks, creating a formidable barrier that would give even the most determined goblin pause.
As I stand back to survey my handiwork, a sense of accomplishment washes over me. The cave, once a mere shelter, has evolved into a stronghold—a testament to my will to survive and protect what is mine. The scars on my body are mirrored in the scars on the land, each a reminder of the battles fought and won.
With the physical defenses in place, I turn my attention to the interior of the cave. I make a simple stone chisel with a replaceable head and useing the same sharp stone, I shape smaller logs into makeshift furniture—a crude bed, a rough-hewn table, and even a shelf to store my meager belongings. I carve niches into the walls to hold torches, their flickering light banishing the shadows that once haunted this place.
As I sit on my newly crafted bed, a flicker of the white stag's presence dances in my mind. I realize that my soul has been blessed with a simple yet useful ability—a keen intuition that guides me in times of danger. It is as if the spirit of the white stag has bestowed upon me a heightened sense of awareness, allowing me to anticipate danger before it strikes.

With the cave fortified and made livable, I find a moment of respite. I lay on my rough bed, the scars on my body throbbing with both pain and pride. The journey has been grueling, and the battles have taken their toll, but I am ready to face whatever lies ahead. In that moment I notice some notifications I may have ignored or didn't see before.

HOME This designation partains to places meant for long term living not just survival and can have major improvements and is meant for months to years of living. Many improvements can be made, few expansions can be made tho and only minor differences can be erected. If major improvements are made until there are none left to make and all minor traps are established then it will automatically move into the [BASE] designation. This designation can trigger only minor events.
There now seems to be a few tabs available to me including (defenses),(furniture),(waist room),(pool room),(the pit),(main room)

And I guess I need to now see what leveling up is like. It can't be that hard I'll also need to go through my windows and learn everything I can about this system.

I close my eyes, allowing the exhaustion to wash over me, knowing that tomorrow will bring new challenges. But with the wisdom of the stag etched into my soul and the strength of my defenses surrounding me, I find solace in the knowledge that I am prepared. And with 5 stat points I should be able to see a difference after using them.
The goblins may regroup and seek revenge, or another threat can raise it's ugly head but they will find a changed man awaiting them—a warrior with a fortified sanctuary, a soul.
