I currently drive a 2014 hyundai genesis 2.0t and was recently quoted $1800 to get the AC fixed. The car cost me $12,000 about 4 years ago and I bought it out right. I'm wondering if I should pay to get the AC fixed or just purchase a newer car. And if I should purchase a newer car, which car should I get? I would mostly be looking to get a newer car that's just as sporty. I'd be willing to pay $10,000 on top of whatever I can get for the genesis. NOT LOOKING FOR A CAR PAYMENT.

Hi,
I'm a new driver. I debating leasing instead of buying for my first car (ie I want every safety feature possible on something without having to worry of damaging). I need something to commute to work about 30 min drive so I want something pretty safe. Preferences are for a hatchback, sedan or subcompact SUV.
Any general advice to insulate me from my own stupidity :p? Would buying be better? Any deals or models you suggest (I felt most comfortable practice driving a Kia Soul, but hate the way it looks)?

I am a 23f and only like 110 pounds if that’s relevant at all - and like the title says, and am traveling to Montgomery, AL for work. I will be completely alone, and know no one within a 7 hour radius.
I found some stays in the Garden District, and heard the area is very safe. I will be driving my car and parking it outside of the location. Local’s, what do you think about the area? Is it walkable when you’re alone, with virtually no one to help if things go south? My car is kind of old but should I be worried about breaking? Daytime vs nighttime walking? Where should I eat, what should I go do for fun?
Now - I googled what areas of Montgomery to avoid and all it said was “Southern BLVD” and lo and behold… that’s exactly where I will be traveling to work each day. What time should I try to avoid being in the area? Would showing up alone at 10am & leaving at 5pm be safe? Should I avoid gas stations, and food places in that area?
I am very anxious about this trip so any advice would be so greatly appreciated!! If you’re a female with strong mom energy in the area that would like to help look out for me and answer questions I have please don’t hesitate to reach out :’)

Hello everyone, I have my ‘09 Escape wit about 147,000 miles one it and I recently got it back from a mechanic for replacing the ignition switch. This mechanic advised me that the suspension felt “loose” and will need “a lot of work”, without mentioning what part of the suspension actually needed work. I took it with a grain of salt because that’s how mechanics always are. My question is, what are your guy’s experience? Will there really need to be a complete overhaul at this mileage? I know about the pesky sway bar links on the driver’s front wheel and maybe my wheel bearings are getting worn but I want to be prepared if it’s gonna cost like 2 grand. The car is a little bouncy but it’s a tall SUV with miles on it, otherwise it doesn’t lean while driving and looks fine when parked. Would love some insight from y’all

Hi all, my laptop is baffling me. Some context: I have it set to do nothing when the lid closes whether on charge or not, and I'm not intentionally shutting it down, but my computer has begun fully shutting down when i so much as adjust the laptop lid. The screen casing is also starting to seperate, and the right hinge (behind the power button) is breaking down.
My working theory is that something in the hinge is impacting the sensor of the power button, but I've no clue if that's possible, much less if I'm right as i don't have the technical knowledge of computer hardware to take it apart and look. I'm at my wits end, as my computer is my only source of income, I don't have a car, and there's no computer repair store within an hour drive of my location.
I updated to windows 11 back in january of '22, this has only started in the last few weeks since my last update on 5/10/23.
This is the computer I have:
MSI GF63 Thin Gaming Laptop, 15.6" FHD Display, Intel Core i5-10300H, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 MaxQ, 8GB DDR4, 256GB NVMe SSD, Windows 10

Finally got my ‘66 mustang back - I used to drive it around in CA when I lived there but now I live in OR. I have a ton of family that still lives down in CA. I still have the original CA plates but the registration expired in 2018. Is it possible for me to keep these classic CA plates even though I live in OR now? Could I register it in CA but use my OR address? Or do I need to register the car and use a family member’s address who lives in CA still? Or should I just register in OR and get their classic-looking Pacific Wonderland plates?

Hello, So the steering in my 330Ci has been getting worse since I bought it a year ago. The car was travelling all over the street etc, mechanic told me to start off by replacing the RTABs since they were in terrible condition. It helped, but then there was the issue with my steering wheel not always recentering (even at highway speeds!), which further exaggerated the issue. Was told 90% percent of times it’s the steering rack that’s had the adjustment nut tightened to get rid of the slack, but which at the same time gives the symptom of steering feeling stiff (which by them means the steering rack was at the end of its live in the first place since it needed to be tightened so much to not be loose). I must also add, there were easily audible creaks coming from behind the steering wheel when turning.
Fast forward to today, they fitted a “rebuilt” steering rack and it’s even worse than before; it’s much stiffer in the centre than on my previous “broken” one. Basically it’s impossible to drive straight at 120kph, because the microadjustments are difficult to make and the wheel doesn’t completely return to the center. The creaks are still present, maybe even louder. I got a new reservoir, new fluid and new tire rods on top of that.
What should I do now? The guy that sold me the rebuilt rack is telling me it has to be the issue with my pump not giving enough pressure or the strut mounts binding. I’m not a mechanic, but have a feeling the rebuilt rack also had the nut tightened to eliminate the slack instead of proper rebuild. Don’t want to throw more money at the issue and replace my whole power steering unless it’s really necessary. Thanks for any responses :)

Today I was doing housework. Hosing down the car to wash it before I go on holiday tomorrow and I slipped off the little wall at our drive. Cut my legs and arms pretty badly and twisted my ankle bad too.
Obviously one of the first things on my mind was this is a good excuse to drink. Even tested the waters with my husband about getting wine since I’m in pain. Thankfully he knows my tricks and said no.
Instead I had a long bath with antiseptic, bandaged myself up and had a nice dinner before watching tv and playing Skyrim for the 1000th time.
Now I’m in bed, feeling sore and banged up and sorry for myself but I’m sober. I don’t have a night of self destruction ahead and tomorrow I’ll be in pain but not hungover as well and craving another drink. I’m happy with that.
If I’m honest I still want wine but because I want it so much I know I can’t have it or I’ll be right back where I started.
Hope everyone is having a better day than I am and keeps it sober!

I recently started the process of looking into local businesses I want to purchase and discovered thru public records a company that owns a number of car washes has had an inactive/ involuntary LLC which is in not good standing since 2017 but has been paying taxes and operating under that LLC. I am by no means tax smart but what is the legality of doing that? Wouldn’t you need an active LLC in order to claim profit and such?

I’ve contemplated very long about putting this out there and asking for advice, so please bear with my long story ahead. Also, genuinely looking for advice and I might delete this later on for fear of anyone finding out.
Met my girlfriend in University because we were staying at the same dorm. Hit it off pretty well at the start until she revealed something big to me at the start of our romantic relationship. Won’t say things were official then but it was becoming serious between the both of us, just cuddling up until this point.
She then told me about the most recent relationship she was in right before she entered University, with one of her youth church leaders who is married (35M now), let’s call him Harry. Her whole family’s Christian and I’m not, for context. I dug deeper and went through all of their conversations for hours, trying to wrap my head around this extremely shocking piece of news. Before she told me anything, she also said this was something she would have taken to her grave, but I guess she changed her mind and decided to confess to me before we progressed further.
Initially from a relationship of a youth leader and a “friend”, Harry already knew what he was doing from the start. He desired her from the start which was around December of 2019 and started to talk to my gf, under the pretence of resolving some sort of misunderstanding between his wife and my gf, which he later on confessed was just a ruse that he used to get closer to her. He was 31 and my gf was 18 at the time. His wife was also my gf’s direct mentor in church.
Under the pretence of being nice and friendly, they started to get closer, started with the guy constantly texting her and initiating conversations, particularly when she went overseas for a vacation during the same month. He constantly asked her about her day to build rapport, opens up very easily to her and shows her his vulnerabilities very early on.
When she came back, he starting doing her lots of favours prominently by ferrying her around and giving her rides since they stayed relatively near each other.
He also kept sending pics of his kids from the start, in between mixing in flirtatious jokes which increased in intensity to using terms like “my lady” and then becoming more and more explicit by escalating to hugs and physical affection like holding hands. So fucking explicit bc he keeps asking her flirtatious questions and wanting her to reciprocate time and time again.
She suspected from the start as well and knew it was morally wrong but secretly craved attention and love so she entertained and went along with it, not really responding to his flirty texts at first but from a certain point on started to reciprocate. She started to develop feelings for him as well.
He puts the wife out of the picture by confiding in my gf that his wife can’t provide the same emotional support that she does, makes her feel special and wanted so her knowing it was morally wrong, still went along with things. Their relationship gradually turned sexual and they had sex several times (<10 times) according to my gf, in his car, at his friend’s house which he was supposed to housekeep for, might have even happened inside his house when the wife was away, but I can’t remember this exactly. Some part of me regrets going through all their conversations and probing so much about everything, but I don’t think I could have not probed so much either. It honestly hurts me so much everyday, especially back when I first found out 2 years ago, till this day, my mind often constructs images of their sexual relations and it hurts me so bad.
He apparently also has depression and has used his mental condition and suicide as leverage in their relationship many times, such as getting my gf to sympathise with him and to threaten her from leaving.
After that revelation about an unethical relationship she had before me, which up until a few months before the guy was still trying to contact her after she broke it off, I encouraged/forced her to confess what she did to a senior church leader, and long story short, that guy was fired and banned from church, his wrongdoings were revealed to his wife and his family, his wife met up with my gf where my gf apologised for her wrongdoings and his wife said that she forgives her and even apologised that her husband is that way.
We both agreed that we would keep it from her family, partly because I knew how nice her family was and I couldn’t bear seeing what would happen if her parents found out. Her parents are the kindest and most generous people ever, and I imagine their hearts would shatter.
Took countless, COUNTLESS of toxic fights, crying, healing to get to where we are today, nowhere near perfect, but we’ve broken up and got back together many times because we realise how much we love each other. I do love her so much and I can’t imagine a world without her now. Yet, I also worry about my future with her. We’ve been spending almost every day together for close to 2 years, most of the time sleeping together in dorm (which we’ve left one month ago), and I can’t seem to let her go. This hurts me so much knowing I lover her and that I have to look past her past wrongdoings. It hasn’t been easy up till this day but it has definitely gotten better. But most days, I will get intrusive thoughts when I get triggers or even mildly reminded of her past. This happens very often.
I’ve cried a plenty lot and so has she, and she says that this is her biggest regret, having made me suffer her consequences, and wishes that things could have been different.
In 2 months, I will be flying off for an exchange programme for one year somewhere far away, and I’ve been thinking about what to do obviously. I don’t know if I want to spend the rest of my life enduring these painful memories while being very happy with her, I really don’t. This pain is heart-wrenching but I know we both truly love each other.
So, I’m here asking for advice as a last resort. How should I approach this whole matter? Is it possible to forget all my pain and just live my life with this girl who has realised her wrongdoings and is trying to be a better person? Or should I use the next one year to forget her?

Just to give a little background I was just diagnosed with ADHD and I started a new job which I only have two days off which aren’t two days in a row because I can’t have two days off because I work with the public so when I have a day off I have to make the most of it because I won’t have another day off for a little bit and today I am not having a good day, my new medicine is not working for me and I just don’t want to do anything I need to do not to mention a family member took over the washing machine and I couldn’t wash my clothes right away until right now. I feel so tired of everything it’s one of those days where I’m not even looking at my to do list I just know what I have to do and say I’ll get to it later in my own time but the same family member was bitching about getting the house clean and cleaning up after myself and she just makes me nervous and anxious and this is why probably deep down I just pick fights with her so she won’t talk to me because it’s better when she doesn’t because I get so nervous and feel rushed to do stuff and to always wash my dishes and put them away and this is why I use throw away plates instead and the dish washer if I do use a plate because she just finds something to nag about when I physically cannot do what she wants me to do I can’t my ADHD won’t let me and I hate eating I wish I didn’t have to eat because I don’t even have a lot of options at work and I don’t drive and it’s hard for me because everything is the same everyday and I have no money I have to save all of my money for other stuff which isn’t even for an apartment but I wish I even had a little spare left for an apartment. Sorry for the word vomit.

I am currently a 2nd yr apprentice in sheet metal HVAC. I work in commercial contruction. The job is pretty easy, laid back most days, but cant be extremely working and repetititve. I make $25/hr and work 7am-3pm monday-friday.
The problem is im not very stimulated when im working. It drains my energy. And its pretty boring. Standing all day makes me pretty drained by the time i get home. I also get no social stimulation at work and dont work with any women. And i dont have much a social life out of work.
I am wondering weather I should try a sales job or get a simple driving job or something. Im 27 years old now but when i was younger I use to buy and sell nike jordan shoes and loved doing that and the negotiation part and selling on ebay.I also bought and curbed cars and enjoyed that. I worked as a lot porter at a dealership when i was 18 and that was the best job ever, just drove around cars all day and listened to music.
Im just not sure weather i should continue working in the trades or try something else that i might enjoy more.

This is long so I’m sorry but I need somewhere to vent. For some background, my (37f) middle sister (31f) is diagnosed with narcissistic personality disorder. She has been a strain on my family and is the most ungrateful little leach I’ve ever known. She is manipulative of my parents and will purposefully destroy or steal their stuff. She will throw huge tantrums from not getting her way on the smallest things (like wanting to drive everyone to a location but everyone wanting me to drive because my car has more seats). If she is not the center of attention she ruins everyone’s time by making a huge scene and leaving no matter what guests are there. She never says thank you for the free house our parents gave her, the hundreds of thousands they have paid to keep her out of jail for her TWO DUIs and 3 free cars they have given her. She has the audacity to complain that they got her a Japanese car and not an American car. She paid nothing, she babysits part time for a living and refuses to get a full time job. I feel terrible for even saying this but I wish she would die. Now my bf (39m) and I are very close to his family because I have chosen to distance myself from my own. They have their issues but as a whole it’s much a healthier environment and I get along really well with them. The issue now is with HIS sister (36f). We will call her Ally. Unlike my sister, Ally is a kind person at heart. She definitely has empathy but was dealt a bad hand with severe depression early in life, and now on top of everything has PTSD from the army. I won’t go into detail. She has been on and off various medications since childhood, but since coming home, she has not been able to find stable work due to depressive stints, panic attacks, and random outbursts that border on psychotic episodes. Her parents have been paying for everything and her savings is drained just trying to exist without a job plus a mortgage to pay. She has even started blowing up at my bf for not helping enough which is incredibly out of character, but has started to feel eerily familiar. He is of course heartbroken. His sister and he were very close growing up and when she went to the army they kept in touch but he could tell she was struggling. Now she’s home, refuses to/can’t get a job, and is pushing her family away and blaming them for not being sensitive to her and her needs. This is also eerily familiar. Now my poor bf has given her money, offered to have her stay with us (I have no problem with it) tried getting her jobs, etc but she just lashes out at him. On top of that, since we are both the oldest, our families come to us to fix everything which is stressful as well. His parents call to vent about Ally, she calls to complain about them, etc. I know where this is going and I’m helpless to stop it or help him. I don’t know if she will ever go back to who she was and he may need to make the same decision I did years ago with putting distance between them. I hope she gets better but I don’t see it going that way.

Hi, I’ve worked at Panera for about 9 months now as a team member. I’ve had multiple instances where customers in drive-thru come to window and complain about the price even though I tell them the total of their before pull up to window to pay. It’s become pretty normal but for me to just tell it because it’s inflation or and just cause Panera it’s more expensive than other fast food joints. I just wish people would stop comparing Panera to McDonald in prices. Idk I’m sure topic is always talked about on this Reddit I’m just wanted to hear other people have to say that from other Panera cafes.

2023.06.03 23:24 RoutineBarracuda4370 How worried should I be about getting a fungus?
I’m new to having my nails done. I got an acrylic set today and the salon has some…questionable cleanliness. The tech used a nail file that was nearly totally white with nail dust. It looks like it had been used not just today, but possibly all week. He didn’t sanitize his station before coming to get me (I know this not only because it was obvious, but also because I watched him finish with his last client and he then followed her to the front to come get me). The station also had nail dust all over it (as did the lamp and even everything plugged into the outlet on the wall. He didn’t wash his hands and all of the equipment he used he put back into the drawer after using them. He had a finger glove sitting on the counter that was there when I sat down and I thought it was odd it looked like he had worn it before. After he wore it while filing my nails he took it off and put it back on the counter. When we finished, he shook off the towel he had under my hands throughout the set and put it back on the counter. Am I being dramatic? Or should I be concerned and/or report this to the department of health?

I've been sitting on this for a little while now and I've hit the point where any questions I have about it I can't fully answer on my own. To make a long story short for a while I've wanted to simulate random bullet spread in this game to figure out how much of a difference it makes. Doing that in TF2 would be slow and have a ton of errors but if I could figure out how to simulate it externally, that would allow me to create extremely large amounts of data and test a lot of scenarios. The problem is I didn't understand how random bullet spread works, specifically what makes it random.
How does random spread work?
To figure that out first I looked at the code. Searching about this topic always lead me back to the same /truetf2 thread and this comment which links to TF2-Base and has this chunk of code:
Every tf2 weapon has a ctx file that holds variables about it and the shotgun has four, one for each class and they are basically identical. In each of those there is a variable named Spread with a value of 0.0675. That's far too small to be degrees but for radians it seems about right and implies that the random pellets from a shotgun can take a maximum angle of 0.0675 radians from center in x and y.
All of this would be relatively simple to simulate but I couldn't find hard numbers on the fixed spread pattern and wasn't sure the values even meant what I thought they did. TF2-Base as far as I'm aware isn't the actual code as well, so maybe whatever Valve has internally is different. So I decided to test it.
Experiment setup
I created a map that contained a single room with one wall textured with the solid blue dev texture. The bullet decals were all replaced with a small gradient so they were identical and easier to see compared to the default. On accident I also discovered that setting decals to 9 removes the single perfectly accurate shot, which is lucky because it simplified processing later.
To run the test I selected engineer and bound a single key that would shoot and call impulse 101 to reload. A python script would automatically send a keypress, wait for the recoil to settle, then take a screenshot (which was also cropped to just a small region the bullets could land in). I let this run for a couple hours and generated about 3,800 screenshots. I could have also toyed with the host timescale to speed up this process but I was worried it could possibly have other effects that might invalidate all of this.
Data Processing
Making the wall solid blue made processing the data very simple. At first I intended to make the decal red, but alpha weirdness I don't understand made them black. That meant all I had to do was select the blue channel and then invert the image so that all the decals went to the max value and the wall texture went to zero. This was passed to a function that can find local maxima and it would return the location of each pellet. I had also taken a single screenshot of the fixed spread pattern and another where I used the measure texture. These gave me a perfect center and a conversion to hammer units from pixels. From this data I converted back until I could determine the angles in x and y. Some shots did overlap and were lost but they shouldn't dramatically effect the end result.

Results
As expected, the maximum magnitude for the angles was about 0.065. Getting exactly 0.0675 would be unexpected because it is the least common value and there is going to be some error. A histogram below shows all of the angles I found:

3,800 shots times 9 (with some losses) should be over 30,000 individual points easily. There should be overlap in the middle where they are closer to max probability but even then the center should be nearly colored in. As it turns out a lot pellets were landing in the same spots. Even stranger is that I was getting exactly repeated shots. The example shot from the first image occurred 23 times. I didn't test for any symmetries so it's possible those also occurred.
I've come up with a few theories on what is going on:

These things are unlikely to be noticed in game, but if we for example knew shotguns with random spread almost always put more pellets to the left of the crosshair that may be significant. How does random spread work?
To figure that out first I looked at the code. Searching about this topic always lead me back to the same /truetf2 thread and this comment which links to TF2-Base and has this chunk of code:

If I assumed the function RandomFloat was gaussian, why are two calls being added together? I also wasn't sure if the arguments passed were limits being placed on it or something else. Digging further I got to this file with another relevant code block.

From a quick google search I did find that this is a way to approximate gaussian distributions but with only two it should like basically like a triangle instead of a smooth gaussian. There are a few reasons I could think of why they did it this way but the important thing is they return values between -1 and 1, which implies the variables scale some other value.

- TF2 is using a table based random number generator. This is how Doom handled random numbers, at least partially for demo compatibility and it did have effects in game. Some weapons couldn't deal the maximum damage the gamecode implied elsewhere but can in sourceports that change how this work. Of the theories this one is the least likely, but it's not impossible.
- The RNG used is bad. There are a bunch of ways to create bad RNG but unless it was a mistake I can't think of a reason why they would stick with it. A good RNG shouldn't have significantly more performance overhead.
- New seeds are frequently generated from player input. Of the options this seems the most likely because if it is the case I created the worst possible scenario. There is only one player input occurring and since it is automated it should be almost exactly the same. There isn't mouse input that should be a good source for seeding, no real inconsistency in key press time, and there is nothing else that should be calling the RNG to help advance it. The other related possibility is that maybe calling impulse 101 or any of the other tweaks I made are causing an issue.
- I screwed up in some other way I haven't thought of. This one I view as the second most likely explanation.

Patient comes in for a new medication that just came from the doctor. Nobody had called him yet, so I informed him that the insurance is not paying for it and it’s like 400 and something dollars. Of course, the first thing that comes out of this guy’s mouth: “so you’re refusing to dispense my prescription that my doctor prescribed me?”
My response is “ No, you can have it for 400 bucks.” he tells me he doesn’t have $400, so I tell him that’s the only option. I don’t offer to attempt prior auth because he doesn’t mention it and I know that that will not work on this particular medication, so I’m not trying to give him false hope or confuse him any further.
Every time I try to bring him back down to earth about the reality of the situation, he just keeps reframing it to me refusing to dispense the prescription. So, I state the obvious to him. I tell him that the medication has to be paid for, so yes, I am refusing to give it to him for free, which is what he’s wanting, but he can certainly have the prescription for $400 like I told him in the beginning.
The guy of course stands firm and just insists that I am refusing to dispense the medication and that he’s gonna report me to his doctor and then peeled out of our drive-thru.
People are fucking stupid, but I could tell that this is not a case of someone simply being stupid. It’s a case of being stubborn and an insistence on making me the bad guy so that he could have somebody to yell at. Some people just need to get the fuck slapped out of them.
And no one cares if you tattle to your doctor about them. Even if your doctor is stupid enough to take your side on the matter, your doctor is not my boss, so I couldn’t give two shits what he or she thinks on the matter

I got that prop 22 .34c/active mile message about them apparently not being told on 5/28. I did my taxes back in early April and got them quickly (which was cool) within the next week or two ‘before they found out’. According to my tax documents in the Uber hub for 2022 I drove 5,716 active miles. Uber sent me $94.88 when they sent that wE diDnT kNoW message. If I do the math right, $94.88 equals ~279mi, which is nowhere near 5,716 miles. Someone please tell me I’m doing the math wrong and that Uber didn’t just royally screw me. I don’t think it would’ve been in my taxes I filed and received in April if they’re claiming they ‘just found out’ at the end of may. Am I the only one? If I’m correct in my math I’m owed quite a bit more but surely I must be missing something? I can’t even imagine calling Uber support over a headache of this size though the money would be beyond helpful if I’m not wrong… I spent what feels like my entire year in my car and hardly slept hustling to pay bills working Uber eats in the SF Bay Area. I did my taxes back in early April and got them quickly (which was cool) within the next week or two ‘before they found out’. According to my tax documents in the Uber hub for 2022 I drove 5,716 active miles. Uber sent me $94.88 when they sent that wE diDnT kNoW message.
