2023.03.19 18:17 ShamefulElf A theory/speculation about what wil happen between Neo and Ruby.

is at the bottom.
Okay i thought about a possible situation between Neo and Ruby.
First is that i don't think Neo wil ever leave the Ever After, but i don't think she'll stay either, so i thought that Neo might be killed in a later episode or finally.
My theory is that Ruby wil kill Neo. I base this on Ruby behavior, she seems conflicted and filled with guilt and i feel like she'll snap at any moment.
In the latest episode we learn that the denizens of the Ever After don’t die, but RWBYJN can.
I personally think that Neo wil hurt or mortally injure one of JWRY. Causing Ruby to break due to remembering all her other friend who she's already lost, not wanting to lose any more she'll fight Neo and end up killing her. I personally want it to be atleast semi intentional. Since it'll cause an interesting problem to her personality.
I just thought of this and wanted to share it so. Tell me your thoughts.
Edit: a fanfiction i wrote about this theory Please check it as it's my first ever fan fic, and i'd like some feedback

2023.03.19 04:34 RemarkableLocation16 Schnee Manor: Secret Room

Quick question for a Fate x RWBY Fanfic I'm writing.
Does anyone know where does the secret entrance in the Schnee's personal library lead to?
Cause all that is listed in the wiki it is a hidden staircase.

Oh, and in case any of you are curious about the Fic, here:
https://www.fanfiction.net15282153/BloodMoon5580

But be warned though, as I won't be posting for the next couple of months as my Baby Thesis for 3rd year BSIT students are already starting, and after that would be Capstone for our summer class.

2023.03.17 18:48 Amazing-Tcheuck Reflections on how to get a wider audience for RWBY and is it already too late for its growth?

Hey everyone, as I've mentionned in u/CrossENT recent post, I've wanted to make a discussion of the actual status of RWBY's series and its place in the grand family of animated series (I may only include western animated series but I don't mind if we compare it to "anime" in general)
I'll make a short tl;dr right now :
-Reddit and the fandom, keep going what you are doing, you're amazing but please share more medias/podcats where the CRWBY or the VA are involved.
-The Roster crew needs to seriously think of if they want to expand through big distributors to get their series better known worldwide or if they want RWBY to stay niche and small scale but in that case, should engage more with their community to keep the boat floating.

So with volume 9 currenly airing with obstacles for the accustomed audience, it's a good moment to reflect on whether or not RWBY's series has actually catch a new breath in terms of viewership and if the series continue, what could be expected
Well to start RWBY after many years, to me, is still seriously lacking of a distributor which is actively trying to push RWBY on various medias worldwide. I'm not only talking about streaming services but to have advertisements, to release the crossovers, comics, mangas around the world, etc... I've looked up on the wiki to see that only Warner Bros Japan is involved in the project (mostly due to Ice Queendom I assume), the rest is planned only by the studio and it shows.
Since it's not new and advertised well, Crunchyroll is not suggesting RWBY that much even though you're already watching similar shows despite being on the platform for many years.
Add to the fact people were still looking RWBY from Rooster Teeth's website (which I understand is streaming the previous volumes for free since the beginning) and don't know/don't want to watch on crunchyroll and you get a half-missed opportunity to reach a wider audience after a hiatus of 2/3 years.
To give the obvious comparison : YES, Nickelodeon get too much involved in the creative process of the Legend of Korra and have kinda ruined some seasons by not greenlighting them all at once like Atla but it still thanks to them that the Avatar Franchise is so well known WORLDWIDE, that we have multiple medias to fill our needs on this universe WORLDWIDE and that the show could grow even more after 15 years since the start of its brodcast (avatar studios, netflix adaptation).
So to summarize this part, I don't know if it's intended from RT to keep every things related to RWBY internal (and I can get that sharing your precious production with businessmen is tough) or if they truly couldn't find an editoproducedistributor for their series but I still think it's a missed opportunity.

At least, since Reddit is a very american-centered social network, RWBY has a quite huge presence here despite the show still being very niche.
In terms of Reddit, what could be interesting from a mod of this sub or a statistics fellow, would be to know if this volume so far has more engagement (more posts, more views on the sub,...) than some previous volume releases.
But for now, in terms of Reddit followers, RWBY is on the same scale as Arcane (series from Riot Games and Fortiche studios) which has only one season and was released almost two years ago. No doubt with the 2nd season coming this year that it will end up with more followers than RWBY.
And for now, RWBY is waaaay behind subreddits like gravityfalls or StevenUniverse. Again, parts of not having a proper producer and a good distribution to me.
But of course, I'm not saying Volume 9 isn't successful or that RWBY can't attract new people even in 2023 because I'm one of them and so far, V9 seems well received overall.
So, as long as the series continues, there will be an afflux of new fans coming along the way.

Now, here's my proposal of what RT and/or the fandom can do in terms of reaching more fans, at least, if the studio doesn't want to go down the path of sharing RWBY with a distributor :
Please, advertise and reward the fanfics.
The amount of investment in fanfics from fans and this subreddit is amazingly high for a fanbase this small.
I'm not very fond of fanficts myself but I can only praise the sheer commitment here.
The recent post of u/MidnightHijinks is a good example of how much there is to discover from the fandom if you are a new fan in needs of more stories from the universe.
Here's the link of the post : https://www.reddit.com/RWBY/comments/11tcfqin_your_opinion_what_are_the_magna_opera_the/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3

It could be okay if RWBY stayed kinda niche in the animation family and if the studio wants to keep their baby, but then put some efforts into promoting the stuff your loyal community is doing, a community part on the RWBY website or something.
Maybe i'm too young in this fanbase and I've missed such opportunities being put in place (also the podcast by episode is a good idea but too short imo) but it's beyond my comprehension how there seems to be not many interactions between creators and fans outside of conventions (signing autographs and such things are not bonding with your community enough for me).
And I know I am surely missing some podcasts made by the VA's but why isn't it promoted on this subreddit? Why if there are still ungoing, after two months actively watching this sub and the series have I not found anything regarding them here?
Okay, enough with the rant, I don't know if this post will make any sense to someone : I'm still very new to this community and very unknowledgeable towards fanfics.
But I believe it's precisely fanfics and fanarts (sometimes inspiring each other) and how they are maintained through this reddit that keeps the train going.

2023.03.15 06:11 shandromand Writing Prompt Wednesday #336, 3/15 - It's All In The Wrist!

Greetings, Huntsmen, Huntresses, and gender neutral Hunters! Welcome to another week of writing prompts! If you are new here, this is a community-driven weekly event, and the purpose is primarily to generate creativity and have fun while doing so (whether you are a 100% real-meat person or not, we don't judge).

What will be involved Special Note for Spoilers!:

Each week, three RWBY-related topics will be posted (subject to ties and special events!). Participants can write a short piece of fiction or dialogue based on that prompt. When writing, the suggestion is to aim for 1k-3k words, however, this is not a requirement. There is no goal - this is not a popularity contest - just write and have fun! If you have any questions, feel free to ask! :)
SPOILERS:
You may write spoilers for the most recent episode into your works. However, we ask that you treat it like NSFW entries and post elsewhere (FFN, wattpad, etc.), link to it here, and provide proper warnings, okay? Great! <3

Rules (gore, NSFW, spoilers etc.)

The rules are the same as the sub's posting guidelines. Nobody here wants to see your story taken down, so please refer to them before contributing! If someone chooses to ignore these rules, the post will be removed.

Additional information

Pre-writing is welcome! /rwbyprompts is a sub with writing as a focus - there you will find an archive of all the threads as well as a somewhat fleshed-out wiki with odds and ends. :) A detailed spreadsheet of WPW things is here! Keep in mind that this houses a lot of the old prompts, but it also has links and things like early participation to previous WPW threads. We're trying this whole week-to-week thing in the face of the bajillion prompts we had built up. We might do something with them, or people might cycle them back in, who knows what could happen??
Find us on Discord at The Qrow's Nest! The permanent invite has been deleted due to Discord bot shenanigans, so dm shand if you want an invite!

The Prompts!:

  • Team RWBY always gets the lowest scores on "survival and evasion" exercises. Finally, somebody from another team has to explain that a trail of wanton destruction isn't evasion.
  • The Rwby crew (can include villains or not) play among us.
  • Yang's arm gets a Prosthetic Yang to replace the Yang it lost.
Optional prompts that must be combined with one or more of the above:
  • An AU where Pyrrha is Jaune's childhood friend.
  • Pyrrha's ghost possesses Ruby so she could interact with Jaune. (Nothing "unsafe" happens, though)
  • The tragic story of a young huntress (or huntsman), the ravenous horde of Grimm (s)he has fallen in love with, and the disapproving society keeping them apart.
  • Team WTCH abridges a RWBY episode of your choice (btw the comment isnt stickied).
  • The history of SDC corporate branding.
  • RWBY/HI FI RUSH Crossover!
  • Rather than be inspired by Qrow, Ruby instead bases her weapon(s) and combat style off of a different scythe wielder (not necessarily from the RWBY-verse).
  • Top GeaGrand Tour Remnant Special, featuring Yang Xiao Long. Hilarity ensues, as is the usual for Top GeaGrand Tour.
  • Young Maria going for tryouts at Haven Academy.
  • One character has something in their teeth, and another JUST. CAN'T. STOP. STARING at it.
  • JN_R visits the neighborhood where Pyrrha grew up.
  • Yang finds a Terran main battle tank. Chaos ensues.
  • When Crocea Mors was created, a soul was born in it. This secret is known by the Arc Family only, with the exception of Jaune. So when the sword reawakened, it introduced itself to Jaune while in front to Team JNPR.

Next Week's Poll:

Next week we'll have our annual Spring Break Beach episode, so we'll hold this poll for an extra week! :)
The Poll!

Last Week:

We just had the one last week (so far - lots of post-postings!)
The thread
The Prompts:
  • The many, many deaths and resurrections of Penny Polendina, all played for laughs.
  • Someone sets up an account for Ilia on HuntressMingle.com
  • The fate of Remnant is dependent on Weiss Schnee defeating a blue-haired midget in a rap-battle. She is NOT enthused by this fact.
  • After hitting their head, one of the characters believes they are [insert character they share a VA with].
Alternate-Secondary Prompts:
  • Ruby joins the Hellsing Organization.
  • Turns out one of the Beringels that Salem gave wings is terrified of heights.
  • Rather than just being a bruiser, Yang decides to spice up her skillset by learning Martial Arts.
  • Ironwood starts a war with an alien empire.
  • Desperate for money Jaune and Ren sign up as models for the Vale Academy of Art.
  • AU where Season Of The Witch (Salem x Summer) is canon.
  • Nora's actually a skilled drummer.
  • Team JNPR somehow ends up on Earth and somehow takes over the United States. Nora’s the president somehow.
  • Mid V7, Glynda arrives in Atlas after a message from Qrow. Oh James...
  • Salem: "I have made him the great warrior he always wanted to be! Now he'll do every last of my biddings!"
  • Other adventures of the Grimm Reaper in her prime.
  • Salem founds her own 6th kingdom of Remnant shortly before the events of the show.

Upcoming Events:

Next week is Spring Break!

Important Stuff and Things!

I have managed to rescue /RWBYFanfiction from an untimely demise! If you would like to share your fanfic or make recommendations, head on over there! I know that I've said something special was coming for this, but Ruby on Rails is hard and not cheap to operate. The fanfiction indexer that I was trying to set up just isn't working and probably needs someone with more experience in RoR programming/design. I haven't completely put it to bed, but it might be a while before I can circle back to it. In the meantime, the fanfic sub has actually had a decent amount of postings - head on over and say hi! :)
No matter how bad things may get, words will always have meaning. Now get out there and write something, but most importantly, have fun! :)

2023.03.11 09:10 ShadowVR2 Generic RWBY [Maker of Wonders: Professions]

[Generic RWBY Fanfiction 1.3.1]
Maker of Wonders - 400CP (Can be bought multiple times)
By the Brothers, with talent like that you're sure to make even the divine envious of your workmanship. Your skill in your profession* is truly legendary, such that the things you make would be found worthy for the hands of gods and heroes. You could make a sword that cuts through solid steel, a statue that inspires love in those that see it, even something like a sandwich worth a king's ransom, so long as it falls within your profession(s). Not only are your works generally incredible, but unlike most things, things you create only get better as they age. That sword that cuts through steel, left to sit for a century or so, would easily split a row of houses in half in the hands of even a novice, far more if the wielder has notable strength themselves. And yes, this does mean that the food you make will never go bad, and will in fact age like a fine wine, more flavorful with time. Let all you make be known as wonders Jumper.
Notes
  1. This profession is meant to be a trade or creative job. You're a MAKER of Wonders, not a RESEARCHER of Wonders. So you cant be a scientist with this, nor a politician or a factory manager. Think things like blacksmith, tailor, cook. Things where you personally are creating something. An architect would also be viable, as you are personally designing a house, even if you don't construct the building yourself.
Given the open ended nature of this perk I wanted to know what other professions this could be applied to and what you could do with them.
[EDIT]: Added note regarding what does or doesn't count for MoW.

2023.03.11 07:54 Ey53475 RWBY: Remnant Legacy

RWBY: Remnant Legacy is a fanfiction I've been working on, set as a prequel to my other fanfictions as well as RWBY Volume 1.
This fanfiction follows two teams of Haven students, as they sent out on a mission to a remote Mistralian village. This mission, initially intended on aiding the struggling teams in finding their dynamic, quickly turns dark as more players reveal themselves. The story also serves as a slightly darker take on RWBY, without nosediving into edginess.

2023.03.08 18:45 IamMenace The Deaths of Team RWBY from a Writer's Perspective

It is in my opinion that there's nothing a writer can do that's more respectful to a character than giving a proper farewell to a beloved character. Whether it's the end of a story and the last time we see of them, or an actual death scene, I believe it's the writer's ultimate sign of respect to that character and the audience.
That's not to say every death has to be "respectable" mind you. There's nothing particularly "respectable" about getting stabbed in the back, poisoned, or what have you. Sometimes characters die in order to move the plot along, or to show the audience nobody's safe (raising the stakes). Just because a character dies in a less than respectable/respectful way doesn't mean the author wasn't showing their respect, and audiences are always going to be split when it comes to death scenes because they're inherently emotional. If you don't feel anything while reading or watching a death scene, it means you weren't invested in them to begin with.
It's hard to imagine, but our favorite characters eventually die in the worlds they live in even if it has nothing to do with the story. Perhaps they lived happily-ever-after, or were miserable, or somewhere in between after their farewell. For many years I've envisioned how Team RWBY would eventually die, my headcanons tweaking with the passage of time, and I thought I'd share them with you today. They're not "set in stone" mind you, but it's just how I envisioned their deaths and how I think they related to the type of characters they are.
I imagine Ruby dying after a mission sometime in her late twenties, early thirties. Ruby will be "forever young" in the hearts and minds of her loved ones and fans, and I think it's the way Ruby would want to go. She'll kill her final Grimm after a hellacious battle, and only then realize she's dead on her feet. Her wound is fatal, there's nobody there to help her, and she's out of aura. She'll be bittersweet about it, but Ruby will find a quiet, comfortable place where she can sit and watch the sunrise and feel the wind on her face. She'll pull her hood up, wrap her cloak around her, eat a couple of emergency cookies, and tell Crescent Rose it's been a good ride, and that she's sorry she couldn't keep up. Finally, she'll smile because she sees her mom's face looking back at her, and after closing her eyes one final time, she'll open them and find herself in Heaven. Ruby dies saving the lives of people she didn't know, and who'll never know her either. And she wouldn't have had it any other way.
I view Blake's death being more "tragic" than necessarily "sad" only because it feels inevitable to the audience (she dies somewhere in her forties in my mind). I like to imagine her starting a huntsman academy on Menagerie and trying to get the island recognized as its own kingdom. She spends the rest of her life trying to undo the damage caused by the White Fang, feeling guilty and responsible for much of the current tensions between humans and faunus. Blake can be obsessive at times, and this becomes her obsession. One day the past catches up with her, and while Blake has the chance to kill her inevitable killer, she doesn't because it's another young, wayward faunus just like herself. Perhaps it's a star pupil of hers, but it'd be especially ironic if her daughter joined an extremist organization, and while trying to stop her like the huntress she is, Blake realizes Kali did the right thing by letting her make her own (bad) decisions instead of pushing her away, but it's too late. Blake dies, either at the hands of a rogue huntsman or Grimm while trying to protect her daughter and people, but her death is made to look like it was at the hands of humans, and she dies with many regrets, just how she lived her life. Statues are built for her and Blake Belladonna goes down in history as one of the greatest faunus heroes the world has ever known, but her death causes strife just like her life did. In Heaven, Ruby greets her first thing, and finally Blake is at peace with herself, momentarily feeling foolish about the way she acted in her life, but soon forgetting about such trivial matters.
A few years into her huntress career, I imagine Yang running into a Grimm that's even tougher and meaner than she is, and although she ends up killing it, she's left severely wounded. She's forced to retire, but if she can't live an adventurous life, Yang doesn't want to live at all. She finds herself depressed, but finds the man of her dreams, marries him, and becomes the supermom she always wanted but was denied at a young age. She has lots of kids, to the point when her teammates find out, they don't even immediately congratulate her anymore. They just say something to the effect of "You do realize how condoms work, right?" or "You do realize your uterus isn't a clown car, right?" Many years later, Yang's husband dies and her kids are all grown and begun having children of their own. With a now empty nest, Yang decides to go on one final adventure either on her sixty-ninth birthday or soon after (because Yang). She dies in ridiculous fashion, laughing, telling Ruby, Blake, her husband, and all her loved ones that she'll see them soon, and has a hell of a story to tell. In Heaven, Yang's got quite the crowd because she indeed had a one of a kind story. Yang dying while laughing at age sixty-nine is canon as far as I'm concerned.
Weiss lives the longest of the four in my mind, living to be in her nineties (96 to be exact, and a number swap of Yang), and is truly "The loneliest of all". Ruby died about sixty to seventy years prior, Blake forty or fifty years, and Yang almost thirty. Weiss' husband has since died, and while she has loving children, grandchildren, and great-grand children, Weiss spends the majority of her time lying in bed, reminiscing about the best times of her life, and slowly dying an indignant death of old age. Ruby and Yang went out on their own terms, as did Blake to a certain degree, but Weiss is simply too stubborn to die. Eventually the fight leaves her, and she dies peacefully in her sleep with her loyal nurses more heartbroken than her family. Her family is sad of course, but the Schnee coldness remains, and they don't shed any tears in public. Weiss was a better grandmother and great-grandmother than she was a mother, falling into some of the same pitfalls as her parents when she was younger, and also suffering heartbreak from her partner's death for several years. Weiss' life wasn't all full of misery by any means, but she spent her latter years waiting to die, but too stubborn to actually do so. Weiss dies with a rare smile on her face, and is greeted in Heaven by her teammates, with Ruby running up to give her a hug, and Yang saying "What took you so long?"
Ruby died humbly after battle, Weiss quietly in bed, Blake regretfully at someone else's hand, and Yang satisfied by everything life had to offer. Four very different deaths for four very different characters. It depends on your point of view whether they're "happy" or not, but bittersweet endings is something I prefer, and I think each of these deaths fit each character. If you were to tell Ruby, Weiss, Blake, and Yang this was how they were going to die, I think they'd all understandably be a little taken aback, but I also think they'd be accepting of it and say "Yeah, that checks out".
This is VERY much in the realm of headcanon and fanon, but as someone who has invested over eight years and over 800,000 words into RWBY fanfiction, this is something I've thought about from time to time. I've had to kill off a few characters over the years, and it's difficult because so much of myself is poured into them, and I know the readers are invested in them. I want to get the scene perfect for the story's sake and theirs, and I also want to be respectful to the character. I hope I did so in your eyes here, but again, this is just my personal headcanon.
Also, if you want to read a story about Ruby's death as I described here, I wrote a one-shot titled "Home is Where the Soul Rests" for a 2018 MonCon (remember those?), and it might be right up your alley if you're looking for something bittersweet to read. I hope you enjoy.
Thank you for indulging me, friends. I hope this thread was to your liking and inspired some of my fellow writers out there. There's a lot of death in RWBY, and while I personally don't think the writers have been particularly respectful toward their characters, story, or audience, many of my writing philosophies have come from RWBY, and their disrespect has only made me love these characters even more. I once heard RWBY described as a neglected, abused puppy that the fans have since adopted, and I think that's a rather apt description in all honesty.
God bless, and have a wonderful day.

2023.03.08 06:46 shandromand Writing Prompt Wednesday #335, 3/8 - Chatterboxing

  • The many, many deaths and resurrections of Penny Polendina, all played for laughs.
  • Someone sets up an account for Ilia on HuntressMingle.com
  • The fate of Remnant is dependent on Weiss Schnee defeating a blue-haired midget in a rap-battle. She is NOT enthused by this fact.
  • After hitting their head, one of the characters believes they are [insert character they share a VA with].
Optional prompts that must be combined with one or more of the above:

Next Week's Poll:

The Poll!

  • Torchwick challenges a group of fictional thieves to a massive heist on Beacon, a la Oceans Eleven.
Alternate-Secondary Prompts:
  • Weiss occasionally has nightmares, finding herself in other worlds and fighting new monsters. She did not expect to be able to summon them.
  • Ruby is pregnant with Penny's child.
  • Jaune finally gets it through his thick skull to ask Pyrrha out, but just as he's doing so, his future self appears and tries to stop him.
  • Teams RWBY and JNPR get dragged into an argument between Weiss and Blake over pirating their favorite show.
  • Ruby is roped into judging a cook off between Weiss and Blake. She did not account for their... odd sense of taste.
  • Velvet drinks for the first time. Turns out, she's a mean drunk.
  • "... and the General is a jealous man. A dangerous, jealous man."
  • It becomes public knowledge that Jacques Schnee wears clip on ties.
  • Getting sick of shoddy weapons and gear from the SDC (or whoever makes their weapons), the Atlas military turns to the NATO military industrial complex.
  • What happens at RWBY episode 1000?
  • Watts and Tyrian ended up getting an apartment in Mantle. Describe the hell each other go through living together.
  • Qrow and Ruby take Yang to an automobile shop to get her a replacement for Bumblebee. Hilarity ensues.
  • Blake's manga drawings come to light.

Upcoming Events:

Spring Break is just around the corner! :D

2023.03.07 23:02 Dextixer The good, the bad and the fandom -V9E3 - Rude, Red, and Royal - AMAZING - RETURN TO FORM

Greetings, this post is a part of my ongoing series of threads reviewing the episodes of Volume 9. The link to the second episodes review can be found HERE. This series was started so i could give me opinions, be they good or bad, about the new volume of RWBY and to cover some of the FNDM discourse that is inevitably going to happen over the episodes.
Keep in mind that all of these are opinions and not all of them are what one could consider to be "traditional" criticisms but rather personal preference. Also, for the most part i will not go into detail too much in these, just a general overview.

The Good

Red King - Yes, i know he calls himself a prince but quite frankly i do not care. As far as recreating fairy tale characters this seems like a relatively faithful recreation of the Queen of Hearts from Alice in Wonderland, the same ridiculous, over the top and quite insane character.
The VA work is quite great too, being able to switch from threatening, to insane, to childish is quite a feat. Is this character unique? No. But it does what it needs to do perfectly. And quite frankly i cant get mad at a reference here.
I complained about tonal shifts in the last 2 reviews. Well, in this case i cant, because in this case, it makes sense. Queen of Hearts/Red Prince are meant to be unreasonable, insane, childish. Them going from funny/pathetic to genuinely threatening on the drop of a hat is their point.
The Visuals - RWBY is pulling out all of the stops with the visuals this volume. It wasn't nowhere near as visible with the forest, sure, it was bright but nothing truly eye catching. The castle however? Now that had some AMAZING visuals, not only in terms of textures or how things look, but also camera work.
The instant motion with the Red Prince did not bother me at all, that's the kind of energy he kind of needs to have. The Chess board, going from the view of the castle and its inner chambers to seeing only the table, all of these are visually striking.
The Music - I do not want to shittalk Jeff, so please, do not take this as me doing so. I understand that his work schedule took a toll on him, but Casey and her band are showing their prowess by rising up to the challenge currently. While i could not exactly hear the words of the song it felt a lot more unique than many other RWBY songs despite having that similar charm. The Creepy music once Neo gets onto the island is also well made.
The Fight - FUCKING AMAZING! The fight choreography is not the same as Montys was, it lacks the qualities of a dance as it was in the past. And yet, i do not mind it at all. The fight scene was cool and a true return to form for the series i think. The solo choreography of the characters was fine, but the TRUE moment was when they teamed up with their abilities.
Something that we sadly rarely ever see in the series anymore, it reminds me of the old times of V1-V3 when team combos were usually quite visible with team RWBY. Its also quite funny how the Weiss nevermore summon and the kind of attack they do with Yang and Blake reminds me of THE Nevermore fight back in V1. A very simmilar trick, but almost reversed, and not as brutal.
The only minor nitpick i would have about the finisher would be that i think it needed more OOOMPH to it, like, do damage to the board itself, make a crater, really give that IMPACT. But that is a minor nitpick, the fight was fire.
Neo - I have to say, i do like how Neo is just full on out of fucks to give anymore. She is there to kill and noone is going to stop her. It reminds me of Cinder back in V4, the same kind of obsession that comes after seeing arrogance from these characters. Right now Neo is not flamboyant, she is murderous. And i LOVE it. Her semblance getting an upgrade is interesting too.

The Bad

Nothing, and im being serious here. I am not going to find problems where there are none. At best i could maybe make up some minor nitpicks here and there, maybe things will change with a couple of rewatches, but right now i am fresh from watching the episode and nothing serious sticks out to me.
The Episode is just... Its good...

The Fandom

The episode has received quite a wide positive acclaim in general. The only Fandom disagreements were mostly over the role of Weiss and how she is the comic relief, but that is something i have covered before. Mostly RWBY twitter seems to either not be arguing or just rehashing the same old things over and over again (Can you believe that Shanes letter was discussed, AGAIN?)
HOWEVER, there is a single fandom "fight" that has occured, and that is over Neo.
Neo - So, the main discussions have occured whether or not Neo is a sadist or takes enjoyment from the suffering of others and what should her fate be at the end of the volume. Should she stay in the fairy tale, die or come back to Remnant.
I am of the very simple opinion that Neo is a killer that enjoys what she is doing, it has often been shown with her since as far back as Volume 2. While one can definitely write fanfictions making that not the case, at the end of the day it is canon that Neo likes killing/hurting people.
Her fate however is a complex question. On one hand, we already are having an Emerald redemption, as such Neo getting the same treatment is not out of the question. And yet it feels like this volume is leading into a Neo/Ruby confrontation, both due to how done Neo is and how Ruby is also slowly becoming done with it all. Hell, i even have a theory that Ruby will eventually have a break-down after killing Neo.

Ending Word

I had little to say over this episode besides praising it. And that is for the reason, i think that Episode 3 is simply great. Its a LOT better than Episodes 1-2 and the story seems to be picking up the pace and a good rate. I genuinely am awaiting Episode 4.
Of course, these are all just my opinions, everyone else is welcome to agree/disagree or to add on to this in way they deem proper. All opinions are welcome within reason.

2023.03.07 17:56 Cardinal_HamAndEggs Looking for a fic that I'm afraid has disappeared. If you find it, please post link in the comments.

I found it. See my comment for the link.
Time travel fic. Main ship is Arkos. I found it on Fanfiction.net but it seems to have disappeared.
Synopsis of what I remember: After the world of Remnant goes to Hell in a handbasket, the main cast (Team RWBY, Team JNR, Sun, Neptune, Mercury, Emerald, Oscar and Penny) get sent back in time to before the beginning of Volume 1, into their past selves' bodies, to retroactively prevent Salem from winning (and also to prevent certain other events, such as Pyrrha's death). Ozpin begins to suspect that they all know more than they should at their ages, draws the conclusion that they've been Isekai'd from the future, and decides to help them. Also, prior to the beginning of V1, Blake uses her knowledge of the future to prevent Adam from taking over the White Fang and turning it into a terrorist group; this results in Adam forming a breakaway faction called the Blood Fang that serves as a replacement for the terrorist White Fang from the original timeline without the White Fang's reputation and methodology being ruined. Furthermore, Emerald and Mercury enroll at Beacon instead of becoming Cinder's henchmen.

2023.03.06 05:42 Whole-Welder RWBY fanfiction: Sons of the Desert

This is my first attempt at writing a fanfic. I'm trying to write as often as possible and criticism is wildly appreciated.
Sons of the Desert
If anyone is curious, it's my take on expanding RWBY by giving more substance to the worldbuilding and give more interactions between characters following my team of OCs. Here are some sketches I made for them. TEAM K.O.A.S. - Imgur

2023.03.05 19:47 Inwhimsible Lack of Personal Stake in Main Conflict, and Progression Scope for Main Characters..?

Disclaimer, I've watched the show only once, and haven't really hung out on any discussion boards which aren't fanfiction. My knowledge may be completely off base...
But there are 2 points I have to make after having watched through the end of S8 and having seen some old reddit discussion posts...
1) RWBY (the team) has had a very small scope for combat growth, compared to most action anime MCs. All 4 have very strong semblances, in which they are fairly proficient since before Beacon. All 4 have very strong weapons, which don't really need upgrades. No one needs a kit overhaul. The growth curves are very minor (Ruby learning to survive without Crescent Rose + Silver Eyes, Yang losing her arm and becoming less reckless in combat, Weiss summoning and reducing twirls etc, Blake idk).
2) Their personal stake in the main conflicts of the world of Remnant is pretty routine, beyond world ending (which everyone has). The only reason for Ruby to care beyond grimm bad, human good is Summer, Qrow and Tai being parts of Oz's circle, and Summer's death. Inner Circle notwithstanding, how many people might have lost people to Grimm in the story? What makes their stake more engaging? This is even more muted for Yang (Summer's death becomes less important though maybe Raven's abandonment can be linked to this), Blake and Weiss basically having no personal reason to care. Their conflict is much minor in scale (White Fang and Schnee family). And since they don't have a personal reason to be more active then the rest of Huntsmen, there is no genuine reason for them to have a starring role in the efforts. Which is what seems to be the case at first glance to me. What little they are doing is mostly by following Ozpin's directions, which is only happening because of Oscar's age, silver eyes, Ironwood's approach and Qrow's relation to Ruby, ig.
3) The only major progression they CAN get in that case is emotional. Ruby losing her innocence and growing as a leader is a good, if normal, story line. Yang's depression could have been handled much better, but it's sorted now. Blake's arc did not convince me (specifically the fact that every second person had a crush on her and went soft Yandere about it: Adam, Ilia... And I honestly never got to see why so many people are into her. I mean, Sun's whole thing with Blake was him being hooked right from the first eye-contact). Still, it is mostly done now. Weiss had a lot of room for emotional growth too, and ig it has been tastefully done... That said, as a whole, their emotional growth is mostly done. Only Ruby is left now, which s9 will probably handle.
If we take all this into account, is it surprising that:
1) RWBY can end up being absent from the screen for chunks of any season?
2) They literally haven't known what to do with Blake and Yang for a long while now, and the only major thing they do with them nowadays is give us shipping moments?
3) Someone like Jaune (a generic, bland character with bland weapons in a world of mecha shift, bland fighting style, bland goals, bland humor and no semblance etc) has the most development in combat? And said development coming via what people call 'fridging,' which though not that good, is the only way to develop a character on screen whom the writers seem to be afraid of giving coherent and unforced on screen development after the Jaunedice fiasco? Plus him having the revenge-boner for Cinder which he did (which makes sense, given Pyrrha's kiss, Pyrrha being his partner and how much they are going down the route of partner == most important person to the character with Renora and Bumblebee at least, him being sorta third wheel in his own team) at least gives him a personal stake in chasing after Cinder. I mean, the other 7 also lost Pyrrha but they can't have sweet Ruby swearing Revenge, plus besides Ruby and Jaune, teams RWBY + JNPR inter-team bonds seem to be much less deep than intra-team... I mean, it says something if the writers are finding it easier to give progression to a character which is not titular at all, and probably not really a main character, and not really liked by a major portion of the fandom.
4) So many characters get their moments and the cast has become so bloated. There's no point in giving MCs scenes if their progression goals are small but unlike the other characters, you actually want to keep them around till the end?
Honestly, my headcanon is that the show is called RWBY not because the team is the main character of the show, but because they will all end up Maidens by the end-game. This I feel because of them having matching colour schemes to the seasons. Probably Maidens will keep dying till RWBY gets those powers. Prolly Yang will get spring for Raven etc etc.
Also, first time interacting with the fandom... Please be gentle?
