2023.05.30 22:39 Slight-Anteater-8390 One Year, One Week old Model 3
https://instagram.com/p/Cs4YM80SDRt/ 1 year. 1 week. Owned Blastoise for 53 weeks and man… what an awesome experience. Took this car everywhere from Los Angeles (a couple of times), to Portland (countless times), to San Francisco, to Vancouver, BC, to Cascade mountains, to Ocean Shores, to Long Beach and daily driving, totaling 35,329 miles driven.
Was skeptical about electric vehicles, especially battery degeneration but so far, it seems like the battery is still very healthy.
How do I know it’s very healthy? With a small sample from today’s driving, drove 183 miles and the car consumed 38 kWh. With an efficiency of 207 Watt hour (Wh) per mile. Averaging 60 mph and outside temp about 70 F. Blastoise has a 75 kWh battery pack. Math breakdown: With an efficiency of 207 Wh/mi. 1 kWh = 4.831 miles. 75 kWh x 4.831 = 362 miles. On a good day, this car can still travel over 350 miles in one full charge. Now that’s amazing!
In larger sample size. Blastoise traveled 35,329 miles, averaging 239 watt hour per mile and consumed a total of 8,430 kWh. After driving all four season in various weather conditions and driving conditions, in one full charge, Blastoise can go about 313 miles. 45 miles less then an EPA range of 358 miles. Approximately 87% battery life remain. But that number is arbitrary. I expect during warmer months the efficiency will be better and the battery degradation will improve. All in all, this 2022 Tesla Model 3 is absolutely amazing!
Let’s talk about money saved compared to gas. My previous car was a 2010 Honda Civic.
In the past year, IF I drove the Civic 35,000 miles, it would have consumed 1,000 gallons of gasoline. I would have paid roughly $4,300 in gas. *(Civic mpg is about 35mpg, average gas price for the past year I’d say is ROUGHLY $4.30/gal)
Past year, I drove Blastoise about 35,329 miles consumed 8,430 kWh and it would have costed $917 in electricity IF I charged at home the whole time but I didn’t. Did some super charging on road trips, so I estimated $1,100 in total electricity cost counting both at home charging and super charging. *(Blastoise efficiency is 239 Wh, with an average electricity rate of .11 cents and super charging )
Saving me roughly $3,200. Also did no maintenance except adding windshield fluid and occasionally add air to the tires, which is free at Costco, and tire rotations, which is also free at discount tires. All in all savings of over $3,500!!!

Closer-ups from last time. Lots of rare, low mintage, vintage, and otherwise very collectible pieces... I priced these as best as I could using various sites and pmsforsale. Many of these items haven't been sold anywhere in a quite a while. For the backdated Goldbacks, I had to use defythegrid as reference as they're the only seller that has full backdated sets. My prices are significantly lower than theirs! If you're sad to have missed out on the older original Goldbacks, now's the time to grab them before they become even harder to find.
ALMOST EVERYTHING will be shipped via BMWT for $5 added onto the total. If you want SFRB, it'll be $10 added on instead. Totals of $1000 or more get free shipping via SFRB.

2023.05.30 21:51 ensluck 🐻 Explaining the NFT bear market
| https://preview.redd.it/tbviy7b1e23b1.png?width=1280&format=png&auto=webp&s=d89d2870183ccf31b43d330a13e71b9c17875f44 Your cheat sheet on... NFT bear market NFT space may seem like a jigsaw puzzle. NFT Cheats is a series of newsletters that helps you put the pieces together. NFT Cheats by Rarible is a newsletter that explores the very pillars the NFT space stands on. Think of those as the NFT World-bearing turtles (or Apes). It’s called NFT Cheats because each newsletter is designed as a cheat sheet that brings you up to speed on a given niche within the NFT space. NFT bear market is the third subject in the series. The previous issues covered Historical NFTs and NFT Security. To put together a cheat sheet on today’s topic, we talked to wale.swoosh, researcher-in-residence at Azuki and a self-described ‘Director of Threads’ on NFT Twitter. Wale got into NFTs in early 2021 after hearing about them on Gary Vee’s Instagram. He joined Twitter a few months after that to become a better trader as he realized that NFT Twitter plays a big role in that. Wale quickly fell in love with the community, and started sharing his own thoughts on the timeline, quickly becoming one of the most popular NFT content writers known for his in-depth threads. DO NOT treat any of the information below as financial advice, and do your own research (DYOR) before buying into any asset. The interview has been edited and condensed, meaning the content below is attributed to the guest expert, but shouldn’t be treated as a direct quote. What does a bear market mean for NFTs? A bear market in Web3 is usually marked by a general flattening of interest in the space. Fewer new people join, and some people who were in Web3 leave. That leads to a crash in prices, teams stop developing, and the sentiment in the space is generally bad because everyone is fighting for the crumbs of a shrinking pie. If you look at it historically, bear markets are always caused by an external macro influence. We’ve had several bear markets in crypto since the industry emerged, and this seems to be the first major bear market for NFTs specifically since they hit the mainstream in 2021. The current bear market started around Q2 2022, and of course we just can’t know when it will end exactly. But I'm positive that it will be followed by a bull cycle. During this bear market, we’ve seen projects shed around 70-90% of their floor prices. At this point, it might be hard to believe that certain NFTs were trading at 3-10x their current floor price. Moonbirds' historical floor price, as shown by NFTpricefloor.com There are several reasons behind that grand fall. First, a lot of people have simply left the space. According to recent numbers, there are around 7,000 active traders left. When you have a few thousand people creating and trading maybe millions of NFTs… the supply/demand ratio gets crazy. When the demand is low, the floor price will follow. Projects themselves also play a role in this. Without naming any specific ones, we have many teams that have made major strategic mistakes in recent months. In fact, I don't think there are blue chips anymore in the space, outside of the top 3-4 most successful collections. Then we had ETH volatility, the memecoin season, Blur experimenting with some trading mechanics — all of that have also not been good for the floor prices across the board. The most important thing for the NFT space at the moment is to get more people in, because when you have 7k traders, it's really hard to run a successful project. Right now, holders are basically playing hot potato with each other. As to how we might onboard more people — that's a whole other topic. NFTs are dead. Long live NFTs! People who say NFTs are dead are partly right. Most projects are indeed dead or are in the process of dying. 99% of them won't come out of this bear market because they just don't have what it takes. Those who will come out, however, will come out stronger. Having said that, NFTs as a technology will never ever die because it brings so much innovation to areas like gaming and digital ownership, for example. Metas, or why there's always a "shiny thing" in NFTs To better understand the nature of the NFT market, it's useful to understand the role metas play in it. Meta is a certain pattern that we see emerge (most of the time suddenly) and disappear (that also tends to happen quite quickly) in the NFT space. A meta can last anywhere from a few days to months. A good example would be the open edition meta we saw a few months ago started by Jack Butcher’s Checks. Once it became clear that Checks are doing good, we saw all those other projects doing open editions, mostly following the same pattern/concept… At the time, the majority of the content on the NFT Twitter timeline was about open editions. Initially, when a new meta emerges, it starts to generate/feed off hype— everyone wants to be a part of this new exciting thing, and ultimately make some money from it (be it trading, engagement farming, or both). It’s hard to put a finger on what exactly makes a meta pop off, but once it gets going, it spreads fast. Wale's thread on metas (click on the pic to read) You have to realize that sooner or later, every meta always disappears. The people who are invested in it often think (or want you to think) that it’s here forever, but in reality there's always the next shiny thing a few weeks later that people will go chasing after, forgetting about the one that preceded it. That being said, the OG projects that start metas—like Checks, for example—often keep at least some of their relevance, while most other unoriginal projects who were just trying to copy them vanish. Besides metas, there’s also culture. Culture is a more fundamental kind of thing. Sometimes it's hard to differentiate: is this new thing more transitory and based on short-term attention, or is it here to actually stay, setting a new standard for the space for years to come? There weren’t many events that actually revolutionized the industry, like what Yuga Labs did when they airdropped the serums for the MAYC collection, the distribution trick many projects adapted later on. But those usually come around in a more subtle manner. So normally when every week you have people saying “oh, that's the new thing, it will change the space forever for years to come” and are super vocal about it, it’s almost never the case. The attention span in this space is incredibly short, and people tend to put most of their attention into things that are ‘meta’ at the moment. Will traditional brands kick off the next bull? There are a few examples of traditional brands doing a good job with their web3 initiatives, Gucci and Adidas specifically come to mind. But you and I would probably have a hard time naming 10 successful web2 companies who came into the web3 space, so we haven't seen that unfold just yet. When it comes to getting new people into NFTs, major brands could be one way to do it — when people see a trusted brand, they might want to get involved, as they’re more likely to trust a brand they already know. It’s a two-way street: when more people in general will get interested in NFTs, web2 brands will likely have an easier time onboarding people as well. It also depends on which audience the specific brand wants to address. When you want to get into the hardcore NFT community, you better understand web3 culture and be part of it so your activation doesn't feel forced—the infamous Pepsi and Budweiser exchange on Twitter became a meme for a reason. But at the same time, as more legacy brands will come in, the focus might shift away from the core NFT community to retail users. And when more retail comes in and NFT becomes more adopted as a technology, it is likely that the end user won’t realize that they are interacting with the blockchain or even that they’re buying an NFT. It will be more subtle, and the majority of retail users probably won't be creating wallets and trading NFTs on OpenSea/BluRarible per se. Nike’s .swoosh is another good example of a web2 x web3 crossover—when you sign up there, you don't even know that you are minting an NFT. I think that's a good approach to bringing more people in, because right now the blockchain infrastructure is still very complicated for new people. At the moment, if you know nothing about web3, blockchain or crypto in general, the learning curve is just too steep: you have to go through the process of creating your own wallet and writing down a 24-word seed phrase, buying and swapping tokens, sometimes bridging—all that just to get an NFT you want. So in regards to mainstream adoption, it will be crucial to build platforms, infrastructure and tools that will be intuitive even for people who are not crypto NFT natives. Is it a good time to enter the NFT space? It's a good time to take your time. Let’s be honest: If you’re coming into the NFT space right now, there's a very high chance that you will immediately leave. The bear market vibes are really difficult to handle for a newcomer. When you go on NFT Twitter these days, there’s so much toxicity, shilling and hate going on… It's really terrible. Then you have short term metas where some people make money and tweet about it nonstop while the silent majority loses money. Of course if you're a newcomer and most of your timeline is talking about how this thing is pumping and they’ve already made 100x on it, you’ll want to join in. The meta will then move on, and most likely you’ll lose money. I think that's driving a lot of people away from our space. But a bear market is actually a great opportunity to learn about NFTs. For me, the ideal way to start in the NFT space is to make a Twitter account, and get involved in NFT Twitter by following some trusted people and just spending time reading their takes, maybe participating in some discussion. And then when you feel comfortable about what you know and feel like you can make informed decisions, then maybe start buying your first NFT or minting your first NFTs (always with the money you can afford to lose). Rarible Bear Pass, the free open edition mint that generated 683.5k copies As for choosing which projects to join, I recommend looking at the team behind it. That’s what it is all about in Web 3. When you have a team that's emerged into the space and is actually building for the community, that's a massive green flag. Invest in people you personally believe in. To me, the team is way more important than the art/roadmap because if you don't have a team that's able to execute, you can have the best roadmap but the project won't be successful. But please remember that in web3 it can all change within weeks or even days. This space is moving extremely fast, and that hasn’t changed even during the bear market. And if you're already in the NFT space, it’s a good time to build. When you have a project is a good time to build in silence so you are ready for the next bull market—and I am positive that it will happen. 5 people to follow to learn more about the NFT market ️ Share the interview submitted by ensluck to Rarible [link] [comments] |
2023.05.30 21:45 jcsquare1900 Nissan Pathfinder or Jeep Grand Cherokee Value
I am looking to purchase either 2022/2023 Pathfinder or Grand Cherokee because they are two vehicals that can tow 5000+ and fit in my garage. It seems that both are not really super high demand, but didn't know if there was one that was known to have a little more wiggle room on price than the other. I have owned Nissan's and am leaning that way, but the used ones are almost the same price as the new.
I would consider doing private sale to save money, but doesn't seem like many year old ones are sold that way.
Thoughts?

2023.05.30 21:02 the_cosmovisionist It's our one year anniversary! (OSMOFOLIA anniversary sale & summer release are here~)
We just couldn't wait another day or two—the new release & catalog update are here!
In addition to lots of small updates around the website, there's a lot going on with today's news.
First: the DREAMS AND ACTUALITY collection is now available! These eight scents are intended to evoke the sort of meandering imagination that can only run free in summer—both real and fantastical, floating somewhere between dreams and actuality.
24 HOUR DRIVE: Warm tonka bean, a suede jacket slung over the headrest, a half-rolled spliff spilled all over the backseat, a melted cone of cinnamon vanilla ice cream, and fleeting landscapes illuminated by the sun.
CICADA KID: The relentless, infinite buzz of summer: windswept grass, dandelions pushing through cracks in asphalt, strongly brewed black tea, handfuls of thyme stuffed into raggedy pockets, and a half-eaten bag of marshmallows.
FARM BOY: Rugged terrain dotted by hay bales drying in the sunlight, stacks of chopped cedar, artichokes and lettuce carried by gentle hands, well-worn denim sticky with pine sap, and dreamy, hopeful bergamot.
LOVERS LEAVING HELL: Woodsmoke from a dying bonfire, a pair of lit cigarettes under a starry sky, two warm bowls of vanilla rice pudding, and sweet, yearning kisses of cardamom.
NIETZSCHE'S LYCHEES: A second, dangerous innocence in joy. Sour lychees broken open by hand, sinful black musk, bittersweet chocolate, bone-dry sweetgrass, mushrooms growing amongst tangled roots, and a whisper of sweet osmanthus in the darkness.
REVERIE: Moments spent frolicking in the consciousness of another life. Steamed rice speckled with clove, words swirling off the pages of a book, the lingering haze of imagination, and a marshmallow-soft tumble back down to earth.
SHOTGUN: Dollops of whipped cream speckled with vanilla bean paste, velvety pink peonies, blissfully tart wild strawberries, glowing white amber, and the hiss of a cold metal canister.
TÚ Y YO: Together, and in love: hand-plucked frangipani, featherlight musk, rich dark vanilla bean, powdered sugar, overripe figs simmered in panela, and a slice of fresh angel food cake.
There are also four new single notes joining the spring/summer catalog:
BLACKTOP: Shimmering summer rain evaporating off of hot, sticky asphalt.
LAWN: A sunlit nap on the lawn: a body sinking into cool green turf and fingers tangled with fresh cut grass.
LAZY RIVER: Towels soaked with pool water, and wet, glistening skin drying in the heat.
ORYZA: Fluffy basmatti rice in a warm bowl.
These 12 scents are some of my favorites ever released—many of them were a technical challenge to formulate (long-lasting grass! smoky top notes! rich fruity base notes!) while others pushed me out of my usual style (gourmands are so hard, for real).
They really embody OSMOFOLIA, I think—both philosophical and playful, complex but straightfoward, reflective of a distinct curiosity for the scents of the world around us.
I hope you enjoy them as much as I do 🥰
~
With this release, OSMOFOLIA also celebrates the first anniversary of our perfume house!
Our perfumery officially opened in June of 2022, as nothing more than a table at a local market. Over the past year, OSMOFOLIA has grown more than I ever expected it to, and I'm so immensely grateful for that! The ability to share olfactory art with you is a joy and an honor ❤️
To celebrate our first year in business, we have a special anniversary scent!
Folks often ask what OSMOFOLIA's studio smells like—it'd be impossible to bottle the day-to-day aroma, but this scent is a snapshot of what the studio smelled like at a particular moment in time.
And what better theme is there than the inspiration and humdrum of perfumery itself?
OLFACTORIUM: The scented ephemera of a perfume studio, and the clutter of a perfumer at work: an open vial of pink pepper, a fifth cup of coffee, papers of formulae smeared with iso e super, droplets of milk lactone on the bench, a heaping scoop of coumarin, scent strips rich with sandalwood aroma chemicals, and the sweet marshmallowy joy of inspiration brought to life.
The scent's concept is also a balance between fantasy notes (coffee, formulas, paper, marshmallow, scent strips) and individual ingredients (pink pepper, iso e super, milk lactone, coumarin, sandalwood aroma chemicals).
I wanted to showcase these ingredients individually rather than hiding them in a notes list that feels more familiar, because my favorite part of perfumery is developing familiarity with individual materials and learning how to visualize them in larger scents.
I know that might make the scent a bit harder to imagine—but luckily, we've got a way to make it easier to smell.
For June, Olfactorium will be the freebie scent in every order! (unless a different scent is explicitly requested) As another way to pay homage to OSMOFOLIA's beginnings, there is a small anniversary sale—since marshmallow was the note that kicked off my interested in learning to make perfume,
all scents with a marshmallow note are 20% off from May 30th to June 14th, with code ANNIVERSARY. :)
~
A few quick catalog updates:
- Cabin has joined the general catalog, while Good Morning, Disaster is being changed to the fall/winter catalog.
- Black Walnut, Gingerbread, and Sweet Potato Casserole are also being moved to the fall/winter catalog.
- The remaining Duets are pre-bottled, so they won't be restocked, but they will hang around for a few days until June 1st at 11:59PM.
~
On our shift to new bottles/vials & pricing updates:
All of the individual scent pages have been updated to reflect the new product information.
Prices for 5ml bottles have risen to $21.00, and we've changed the
style of the bottle (now, it's square!),
the caps (they're copper, and they look awesome!), and
the labels (no more slippy labels is the goal... plus, updated label art!).
We finished up the last of our case of previous bottles, and the remaining ones were pre-bottled for May.
The last call for leftovers is here! Samples are now offered in 2ml vials, rather than 1ml.
2ml samples now cost $8.00 individually, but
sample sets are priced so that each sample is $7.00 (ie, 6 samples x $7 = $42 for a sample set of 6). The vials come with reducer caps to help prevent spillage, too.
Solid fragrances also have updated pricing. Previous batches of solid fragrance were filled with 15g of balm for $15, but
newer batches of solid fragrance contain 21g and now cost $20.
Certain solid fragrance scents were restocked more than a month ago, so a 15g/$15 option for those scents will remain on the website until we run out. When they're restocked, they'll switch over to the 21g/$20 offering :)
~
Finally, an update on alcohol format offerings!
Unfortunately, we ran into an issue with the case of bottles, so the release of our alcohol format scents will be delayed until July 1st or so. So sorry to extend the wait!
But I don't want to leave you hanging, so here's some brief info about what's coming:
- There will be two sizes available: a 30ml bottle for $65, and a 10ml travel size for $30. Both are sprays!
- Spray samples may be available in the future, but we haven't loved any of the sample sprayers that we've tried, so we're holding off until we find ones that work like a dream.
Our scent lineup includes our most popular scents as well as some new releases:
- And Life And The Fields
- Cumulus
- Dream Bean
- Geosmin
- I And Thou
- Iso E Super
- Marshmallow
- Ode To Aphrodite
- Santal
- Solario
- Stratus
- Lawn
- Lazy River
- Lovers Leaving Hell
- Olfactorium (anniversary!)
- Farm Boy
- Nietzsche's Lychees
- Oryza
- Tú Y Yo
We aren't covering the entire catalog for a few reasons:
First, certain scents have to be reformulated for an alcohol format. Some ingredients play well with oil but not with alcohol and vice-versa, and we don't want anything to separate out from the rest of the perfume. Reformulating to keep the scents consistent can take time. :)
Second, we have to grow incrementally—we're looking into a larger space to store products, but for now, we can't fit tons of big bottles in the studio.
Third, we don't have the ingredients yet! A larger size and different diluent mean that we need more of each ingredient to make the scent smell just as strong. Increasing the volume of our ingredients will also be an incremental process.
But if you'd like to suggest particular scents (even out-of-season) that you'd love to see in an alcohol format,
you can let us know here!
~
Thank you for putting up with this giant update! As always, we're excited to grow with you, and we are very thankful for your patience with all the tinkering :)
Have a warm, relax-under-the-sky kind of day 💕

2023.05.30 20:50 Dramatic-Surprise251 10+ years of debilitating health issues solved
I’m 27. When I was 13/14, I started having weird throat issues all the time. It felt like my throat had a lot of pressure in it, like a weird tension feeling, and the only thing that helped was when I ate/drank something or swallowed. This would help then it would come back a few minutes or so later. I had weird issues swallowing saliva too. I saw an ear nose & throat doctor about this and was told my issue was acid reflux. Doctor prescribed reflux medication and told me to sleep on an incline. I did those things for a while, but it didn’t help. Supposedly I was treating the issue and the doctor didn’t know why I wasn’t improving but told me to continue doing what I was doing to supposedly treat it. I saw some other doctors that weren’t sure either. I pretty much learned to just live like that but it was annoying and started to take over my life to the point that every day revolved around coping with my throat and dealing with the bad anxiety it was causing. I used to avoid things, had no life, had to make sure I always had something to drink to help my throat, and felt really stressed about the whole thing and how it was affecting me. On a side note, I also used to breathe mostly through my mouth as well. No one really knew, but I was really miserable all the time because of this stuff.
At 15, I started to feel like a brain fog on top of the throat issues. Something I’d never felt before. It was like my brain felt like mush all the time, no matter how much sleep I got. Like that feeling when you sleep really bad for a couple nights and feel like crap, except I was sleeping enough. Felt kind of spaced out constantly, couldn’t concentrate as well, I never wanted to do anything, felt apathetic, and just kind of crappy all the time. Wasn’t severe but was definitely impacting my day to day life. I went back to seeing doctors. Lots of doctors said there was nothing medically wrong with me and some even said that the brain fog (and maybe even the throat issues) were all psychological. I didn’t feel like that was it because my symptoms felt so real and physical but what did I know. I was prescribed antidepressants and doctors recommended I see a therapist for bad anxiety issues. I spent the next couple of years trying multiple medications, seeing therapists, and making other changes but nothing helped. I thought I was going crazy. In those few years that passed, I had slowly started to feel worse. By the time I graduated high school, the constant mental fog and tiredness were affecting me pretty bad. I felt stressed and anxious nonstop. I had almost no life during high school because of it and did just the bare minimum to get by. With lots of doctors telling me there was nothing physically wrong with me, I started to believe them about it being all mental. I thought it was something I was doing wrong personally. At this point I wasn’t even talking to my family about it as much since supposedly there was nothing wrong and it was all in my head. Especially when doctor after doctor were saying nothing was wrong and because my symptoms were mostly feeling tired all the time, what was I supposed to say? It felt like it was my personal fault for feeling the way I did. Everyone gave me the impression that my issues were because of me and I just needed to change my mindset and lifestyle and I’d feel better. Do anxiety workbooks, deep breathing, get more sleep, take antidepressants, therapy. I did every single thing doctors and therapists told me to do, but nothing helped. Doctors and therapists made me question my sanity every day. It was hell.
I was in no shape to go to college out of state, but I did. I ended up going because supposedly there was nothing wrong with me and I was trying desperately to believe it was all in my head like doctors and therapists and my family were saying. I just needed to change my way of thinking and lifestyle and that would cure the constant brain fog and tiredness and throat issues. So I pushed myself to go, hoping I’d sort it out. I spent the next 4 years slowly feeling worse, still seeing doctors but getting no legit answers. I'd go months and months at a time without seeing a doctor as I didn't know where to turn and had given up at times. I saw a doctor about sleep apnea but didn't seem to fit almost any of the symptoms. Stuff like waking up trying to get air, choking, stopping breathing, snoring, wasn't overweight, wasn't unhealthy, didn’t have a family history of it or other health issues. Still, I tried one of those moldable mouthpieces that’s supposed to help with sleep apnea but didn't see any benefit from it. So with all of this, I figured it’s probably not sleep apnea. I was so desperate, I was constantly trying all sorts of medications, supplements, and other weird things to try and help myself. I felt like I was losing my damn mind. My mental health was horrendous. Felt like crap 24/7. I literally felt stupid because my brain wasn’t working. Dealing with symptoms and figuring out what was wrong with me consumed my entire life. I would occasionally go to class after taking a big dose of stimulant drugs, but even those only did so much. No amount of caffeine pills, energy drinks did anything either. I was beyond that stuff helping. I experienced almost nothing enjoyable in those 4 years of college and had basically no life, really no friends, hobbies, nothing. Really the only experience I had during college was when I went on a study abroad trip but it was hell because I felt so awful the whole time. I had also joined a fraternity in the beginning of college but did almost nothing with them for the same reason. The mental tiredness had gotten so bad it felt like I was disconnected and living in a dream. Like I felt kind of drunk. I was so mentally and emotionally numb and exhausted I didn’t even feel human. Like I physically could not feel emotions and felt super spaced out. I was also still dealing with the throat issues. I’d get random dizziness, my vision got worse (more sensitive to bright light, bad floaters in my eyes). I somehow managed to graduate college and finished feeling significantly worse than when I began. I was so miserable and had no one to talk to about what was going on. But I was at least glad that college was over, because it sucked horribly.
I spent the next year doing just the bare minimum to get by. About a year after college (2019), I had a sleep study done and results came back with moderate sleep apnea. For the first time I actually had an answer. Sleep doctor immediately prescribed a CPAP machine. Didn’t even bother to wonder why a young healthy person has sleep apnea to begin with, because it’s not normal. I spent the next 2ish years trying multiple machines, masks, changing all the settings, but only saw some improvement. Keeping the CPAP consistently on throughout the night was also a struggle in itself as it was super awkward and uncomfortable, even though I was desperately trying to make it work. When I was able to keep it on for 5+ hours a night I felt a bit better but it was really difficult to do so consistently. During this time I couldn’t really hold down a job, other than some really basic, short term jobs. And even those felt brutal. My relationships with everyone were affected pretty bad. I was a complete zombie because the tiredness was so overwhelming. It was as an amount of brain fog and exhaustion I didn’t know was humanly possible. I was making myself basically sick with stimulants that really weren't helping and even had a doctor at one point tell me that I should get genetic testing for depression or have my brain zapped with electric shocks. I luckily didn't go that route.
After two years of messing with machines, my sleep doctor then recommended I see a maxillofacial doctor to see what the underlying breathing issue was being caused by. The doctor recommended I get a custom mouthpiece made that shifts the lower jaw forward to help open the airway to prevent breathing issues while sleeping. The process of having it fitted and made took a couple months. I even took a “real” job during this same time because I had two different doctors telling me that this mouthpiece was likely to help me a lot. I felt like I couldn’t have gotten the mouthpiece fast enough. I ended up messing with the mouthpiece for months and had no benefit at all. Literally zero. The dentist who made the mouthpiece said that the mouthpiece wasn’t helping because I might just have “weak muscle tone” in my throat and that I should see someone called a myofunctional doctor to supposedly improve muscle tone in the throat and tongue. I looked into that and it seemed like total quack stuff so I didn’t do it and completely dropped that dentist that made my mouthpiece and suggested this. I then saw an ear nose and throat doctor and later did a sleep endoscopy with him where I was put to sleep and had my breathing monitored with a camera down my throat. The doctor said that my breathing issues were being caused by my throat and jaw and suggested that since the mouthpiece wasn’t helping, I could get surgery or have a device called Inspire surgically inserted into my chest and neck to artificially help breathing. I held off on that cause it sounded pretty extreme and thought there had to be something else. During this time I had to leave the job I should’ve never taken in the first place because I was so non-functional.
I pretty much gave up for months. I eventually scheduled an appointment with another ear nose & throat doctor (the same kind of doctor I saw when I was 13). I'd already seen many ear nose & throat doctors by this point but didn't know what else to do. Don’t remember how exactly it happened, but the connection was made that my issues were due to really abnormal nasal breathing. Something called nasal valve stenosis, where both sides of my nose were completely caving in and blocking most air, leading to crappy breathing, even when just breathing in lightly. This issue is worse during sleep and was causing my brain to “wake up” every time my nose had the obstruction. So I was struggling to breathe all night and I was slowly feeling worse as I was never getting good deep sleep. So the bad sleep every night just kept accumulating over the course of 10+ years. He also explained that my throat issues were a sign that my nose wasn’t functioning normally, which was causing airflow issues and a throat pressure feeling as a result. But weirdly the nasal issues weren’t being caused by my nose itself. There’s nothing actually wrong with my nose. It’s the middle part of the face that provides the base and support for the nose that is lacking the support needed to keep the nose open for normal breathing. Doctor said it’s really abnormal for nasal collapse to happen like this as a result of the face just not developing properly. It was just the way the middle of my face grew and changed over time, especially during puberty, that led to this. Doctor said it is called midface deficiency. It’s the area of the face just to the sides of the nose, below the eyes. Doctor said facial surgery is really what I needed but said nasal surgery could potentially help a bit and is less intense of a surgery, so I decided to go with that. Everything finally made sense for the first time ever. I even recorded my sleep and sure enough I could hear myself struggling to breathe all night.
Last year (2022), I had nasal valve surgery. It took a long time to recover from surgery and I still have to wear something in my nose when I sleep to prevent it from pinching shut because the surgery only helped a bit. I will still have to look into facial surgery to address the underlying issue as my breathing is still horrible during the day when I’m not wearing a dilator in my nose but at night I wear it and am good. Over time most of my issues have gone away. The slowly worsening exhaustion and brain fog and cognitive issues that started when I was a teenager. The constant severe anxiety and stress feelings I had since I was a kid. Throat issues gone. I no longer feel like killing myself out of misery. It was that obvious all along but untreated made my life constant fucking torture. Feeling horrible nonstop, slowly getting worse, not knowing why, being told there was nothing wrong with me and that it was all psychological, trying all sorts of things with no benefit, and having my entire life be ruined was a mental hell I wouldn’t wish on anyone. I don’t feel like my teens and most my 20s actually happened because I was in such poor health physically and mentally 24/7. I wish I had been able to see decent doctors earlier, but obviously that didn’t happen. I’m not even sure how I wasn’t able to make the connection myself. I think I was just so used to really bad breathing since I was young I didn’t know it was abnormal and had no reason to think I had some weird issue cause why would I? I still struggle with the mental effects of I think living like this for so long. These issues consumed everything for over 10 years so I guess it’s not surprising that it still affects me mentally even after the fact. Thanks for reading and hopefully this can help someone out there.
TLDR: Slowly worsening chronic fatigue/brain fog and other issues for 10+ years was due to really bad nasal breathing, mostly nasal valve collapse due to midface deficiency that developed when I was a teenager and was leading to sleep apnea.

2023.05.30 20:48 Dramatic-Surprise251 10+ years of chronic health issues solved but still struggling mentally
The why me, why this specific abnormal issue that wrecked my life, why couldn't doctors have helped me sooner, all the wasted time and lack of experiences I've had in life, etc. I'm still depressed, angry, frustrated, etc. These issues consumed everything for over 10 years so I guess it’s not surprising that it still affects me mentally even after the fact. TLDR: Slowly worsening chronic fatigue/brain fog and other issues for 10+ years was due to really bad nasal breathing, mostly nasal valve collapse due to midface deficiency that developed when I was a teenager and was leading to sleep apnea.

2023.05.30 20:47 Dramatic-Surprise251 10+ years of debilitating chronic health issues solved but still struggling mentally
2023.05.30 20:22 jimbobbypaul Ranking the Top 131 FBS Programs of the Last 40 Years: 87. Nevada
Main hub thread with the full 131 rankings The year was 1976. Nevada, coming off a 3-8 year in Division II, hired a little known assistant from UNLV to be their football coach. He had returned to his alma mater where he played QB just 8 years prior. Chris Ault. Ault oversaw 2 transitions: From Division II to Division 1-AA in 1978, then again to Division 1-A in 1992. Ault was a wild success, running his patented pistol offense, making the Division 1-AA playoffs 7 times in 14 years, with an overall record of 122-47-1. Their final year in 1-AA, 1991, they overcame a 35 point 2nd half deficit against Weber State to win 55-49. Backup QB Chris Vargas led the comeback, and would become known as “The Comeback Kid”. He also donated part of his lungs to his brother-in-law in 2000. Be like Chris Vargas.

Nevada’s been in the FBS since 1992, so 31 seasons played since 1983. They were previously in the FBS (Division 1) from 1946-50, but that doesn’t fall under the 40 year timeline here. In their 31 seasons, they’ve made 17 bowls, which is 55% of the time. 7 titles means they win their conference 23% of the time. 5 titles came under Ault, the College Football Hall of Famer and easily the greatest coach in school history. Top NFL players include QB Colin Kaepernick, WR Nate Burleson, and OT Joel Bitonio.
Top 5 Seasons
Worst Season: 2000 (2-10 overall, 1-7 WAC) New conference, new coach, new lows. Nevada moved from the Big West to the WAC with Chris Tormey, who previously went 32-23 at Idaho. There were early struggles, with a 7-36 loss to Oregon, 10-41 to #22 TCU, and 14-45 to Colorado State. They did get a 35-28 win over Wyoming. The season quickly got away from them though, after a 7-38 loss to rival UNLV. Cormey would go 0-4 against UNLV in his 4 years, which was inexcusable. Nevada got a late season win over Rice, but finished off with a brutal 3-38 performance vs Tulsa. Nevada finished last place in their new conference. Sophomore WR Nate Burleson was a breakout player though, with 921 receiving yards. Burleson went on to be an All-American in 2002, leading the nation in catches with 138, for 1629 yards and 12 TD. He was drafted in the 3rd round in 2003 and went on to have a solid NFL career and is an even better media personality than football player.
5. 1994 (9-2 overall, 5-1 Big West) Chris Ault was in his 18th season at the time, with 1st year offensive coordinator Bobby Petrino. The two made magic happen, ranking 3rd in the nation with 37.6 PPG. Nevada started 9-1, with the only loss to Boise State, who was in Division 1-AA at the time. Boise would join Division 1-A in 2 years, but in 1994, was a division below and went 13-2 and made the title game. Nevada had rolled through the rest of the Big West, mostly beating teams that finished with losing records, but did beat 6-5 Pacific 38-26. Heading into the final week, Nevada had already won a share of the Big West title, but faced rival UNLV, who was 5-4 (4-1 Big West) and looking to get a share themselves. In the most hyped game between the two ever, UNLV pulled off the upset, winning 32-27 in a game now known as the “Red Defection”, which I talked about in UNLV’s post. Nevada still finished the year 9-2, with a share of the Big West title. QB Mike Maxwell led the NCAA in passing TDs, throwing for 3537 yards 29 TD 15 INT. RB Marcellus Chrishon ran for 1000+ yards in just 9 games, and WR Alex Van Dyke, a future 2nd round pick, caught 98 balls for 1246 yards and 9 TD.
4. 2020 (7-2 overall, 6-2 Mountain West) Nevada was expected to be a solid team in 2020, returning talented young QB Carson Strong. Because of covid weirdness, their schedule was anything but regular, and ended up playing all 8 regular season games against Mountain West opponents. Because of this, there was little room for error. They did as well as they could, starting 4-0, set to face 3-1 San Diego State, who was the division favorite. There were no divisions this year because of covid, but SDSU was still a favorite to qualify for the title game. A 26-21 lead heading into the 4th for Nevada held for the final 15 minutes, and they improved to 5-0 with a conference championship appearance in sight. At 6-1, they’d unfortunately lose 20-30 to an upstart 5-0 San Jose State team that would go on to win the Mountain West. Nevada still made a bowl, beating 6-5 Tulane 38-27 to finish 7-2, and 34th in my rankings. QB Carson Strong won Mountain West OPOTY, completing 70% of passes for 2858 yards, 27 TD, and just 4 INT. Many were talking about him as a future 1st round pick heading into 2021. RB Toa Taua, brother of legendary Nevada RB Vai, had a solid year with 675 rushing yards in 8 games, earning 2nd Team All-MWC. Toa went on to have a consistent 5-year career in which he amassed 3997 rushing yards, 4th in school history only to his brother, Chris Lemon, and Colin Kaepernick. Strong formed a strong connection with WR Romeo Doubs, now on the Green Bay Packers, who had 1000+ receiving yards and 9 TD in just 9 games. Overall, 10 players made 1st/2nd team all-conference.
3. 1995 (9-3 overall, 7-0 Big West) This was right after the 1994 season, where Nevada went 9-2 but lost on the final day to rival UNLV, forced to share the conference title. They left no doubt in ‘95, outpacing UNLV 55-32 en route to a 7-0 Big West season and sole owners of the title. In week 3, 2-0 Nevada hosted Gary Pinkel’s Toledo, losing 35-49 in what previewed the bowl game later on. After then dropping a game to SDSU to fall to 2-2, Nevada averaged a whopping 48.4(!) PPG in their last 7 regular season games, going 7-0 with wins over 2nd placed Southwestern Louisiana and 3rd placed Utah State. That set up a rematch with Toledo in the bowl, who was now #25 and 9-0-1. In the first overtime game in college football history, Toledo won again, this time closer at 40-37. Gary Pinkel completed an undefeated season with the Rockets, while Nevada finished 9-3. The offensive numbers were again staggering, even better than 1994. Nevada ranked 3rd in the nation in PPG with 43.4. QB Mike Maxwell led the NCAA in passing yards with 3611 (in just 9 games!) and 33 TD to 17 INT. WR Alex Van Dyke had an unbelievable year, with 129 catches for 1854 yards and 16 TD. In just 11 games! If he played a 13 game season like teams do today, his stats would extrapolate to 152 catches for 2191 yards and 19 TD.
2. 1996 (9-3 overall, 4-1 Big West) As you can tell, Nevada was balling from 1994-96. New head coach Jeff Tisdale, a former All-American QB for Nevada in the 70’s, took over for Ault, who continued in his role as Athletic Director, which he had been in since 1986. There was no drop off offensively, averaging 42.9 PPG (2nd in the nation), but the defense gave up 8 less PPG, going from 31.2 allowed in 1995 → 23.8 in 1996. QBs John Dutton and Eric Bennett alternated throughout the year, coaches trying to decide who was the right fit to take over for Mike Maxwell. Both were solid, and combined for 3907 passing yards 34 TD 11 INT. Nevada started 1-2 with losses to Pac-10 opponents Oregon and Cal, but then started to wipe through the schedule. Nevada went 7-1 the rest of the way in the regular season, with 25+ point wins over UNLV, Boise State, North Texas, New Mexico State, Utah State, and Arkansas State. The only Big West loss was 15-24 to Idaho, who finished 3rd in the conference. Nevada tied with Utah State at 4-1, sharing the conference title, but got the better of them in a 54-27 win. An 18-15 win over 8-3 Ball State in the bowl clinched Nevada’s first ever bowl win, and they now have 5 more since. LB Mike Crawford nabbed the game-sealing interception, and was the game’s MVP, logging 14 tackles and a forced fumble to go with the INT.
1. 2010 (13-1 overall, 7-1 WAC) I said that Kansas might be the team with the most obvious “best” season, but Nevada’s up there too. This was a dream season, almost like a Hollywood script. Nevada was a very good team entering 2010, picked to finish 2nd in the WAC, but EVERYONE was picking Boise to win the conference. Not just the conference, but to possibly contend for a national title. That’s what the Broncos did, starting 10-0 and #3 in the nation, getting as high as #2 at one point. Back in Reno, Nevada expectedly started 2-0, setting up a Friday night game hosting Cal. I remember watching it, a Cal fan at the time, hoping the Bears would improve to 3-0, but Colin Kaepernick and RB Vai Taua ran all over our defense, posting 299 rushing yards between the two of them in a 52-31 win. A 27-13 win at BYU the next week put Nevada in the AP Top 25 at 4-0. They’d beat up on bottomfeeders UNLV and San Jose State before heading to Hawaii, but lose a trap game to the upstart Rainbow Warriors, who won 27-21 with almost no one watching the 11:30 PM EST start time game. Nevada kept their focus though, and won 2 more to get to 8-1 and back up to #21. A win over 6-2 Fresno State, a traditional WAC power, was huge, with the Wolfpack taking a 35-34 lead with 5 minutes remaining. After a 52-6 win over New Mexico State, the Wolfpack were 10-1, and #19 in the nation, having one of the best seasons in school history.
Then came the Boise State game. Nevada had finished 2nd in the WAC for 2 straight years, unable to get over the Bosie hump. Boise State was the class not just of the WAC, but of all the non-AQ schools in the BCS era. They were the team that finally had a chance to break not into just a BCS bowl, but the national title game. Nevada was the home team and wasn’t going to just lie down, but this Boise team was, at the time, the best non-Power 6 team we’d ever seen. Boise didn’t disappoint, galloping out to a 17-0 lead early. Taua cut it to a 10 point deficit in the 2nd quarter, but Boise RB Doug Martin immediately responded with a 51 yard TD run to send it into halftime at 24-7. With the offense stalling, Kaepernick finally broke off an 18 yard TD run on 3rd and 6 with 1:30 left in the 3rd quarter to make it 24-14. Following a defensive stop, Nevada got the ball back to start the 4th. Receiving an end-around lateral 12 yards behind the LOS, with 3 tacklers to beat, WR Rishard Matthews evaded them all and took it 44 yards to the house. 24-21. With 5 minutes to go, Nevada made it 24 all. Boise, who hadn’t scored all half, put the ball in Doug Martin’s hands and let him do the work, taking a screen pass 79 yards for the go-ahead TD. In response, Kaepernick drove the length of the field, 15 seconds to go…Touchdown, Nevada! With 13 seconds left! Will they go for 2…? No.
Boise State ball with 9 seconds to go, both teams preparing for OT. Kellen Moore throws up a PRAYER for Titus Young, nearly 60 yards in the air…and Young LAYS out for the catch, down to the Nevada 10. 1 second left, 26 yard FG, Boise with one of the best kickers in school history, game over. Except it wasn’t. Kyle Brotzman hit it wide right. OVERTIME. The stadium was shaking. 3rd & goal in overtime for Boise, incomplete. Brotzman comes back out, this time from 29. WIDE LEFT. As Joe Tessitore put it, “this is turning into a disaster”. On the other side, Nevada kicker Anthony Martinez lined up for a 34 yard FG for the biggest win in school history. Right down the middle. Nevada wins it 34-31 in OT, pulling off one of the biggest upsets of the 2010s and winning a share of the WAC title, against all odds. Nevada won their last regular season game against Louisiana Tech and the bowl against Boston College to finish 13-1 and #11 in the AP Poll.
The offense averaged 41.0 PPG while the defense gave up just 21.4. Kaepernick won WAC OPOTY, throwing for 3022 yards 21 TD 8 INT with 1206 rushing yards and 20 TD on 7.0 YPC. Taua was 1st Team All-WAC with 1610 rushing yards and 19 TD, finishing his career as Nevada’s all-time leading rusher with 4588 yards. DE Dontay Moch was in contention for WAC DPOTY, with 8.5 sacks and 13.5 TFL. Overall, this turned out to be a loaded Wolfpack team, with 9 players drafted over the next 3 years, including Kaepernick, who led the San Francisco 49ers to a Super Bowl appearance.
5th Quarter
Do you remember that insane 2010 game vs Boise, and that Nevada team with Kaepernick/Taua? What do you think about Nevada in general, with the success they’ve had running the pistol and Chris Ault’s legacy?

2023.05.30 19:39 goofbeast What the Upside Down is? Some thoughts of mine on the sci-fi lore of Stranger Things
THERE'S HUGE SPOILERS OF SEASON 4 ON THIS POST!
Hi everyone! Hope you´re doing good. So, i´m a fan of Stranger Things since circa 2017, when i binge watched Season 1 and 2, and became fascinated with all the sci-fi side of the show - this unknown piece of alien mythology with psychic powers and Lovecraftian aspects in the mixture is so interesting. Basically the great question of all the series have been what the Upside Down - that strange dark copy of Hawkins from where monsters emerge - actually is, what is the origin of this world, and why it´s affecting only Hawkins? We haven't had any answer until Season 4, when Vecna was introduced as the true big-bad and it´s origins as the original test subject Number 001 have been finally revealed!
The link to everything that will be quoted here is at the end of this post, in the "Sources" section.
Now, we known from S4 that in 1979, Eleven acidentally unleashed 001 and he killed everyone at the Hawkins Lab, except for Eleven, who sended him to another world through a red portal. For all these years, 001 have been in this parallel world and this is the meaning behind all the Upside Down threat that emerged in 1983. However, what´s that world which 001 was sended to by Eleven? It´s the Upside Down? Or a different world? Well, in the finale of S4, we see brief flashbacks of 001 arriving at a strange new environment of floating rocks and dark orange sky, where he find the Demogorgons and where he find a cloud of dark particles which was molded into what we known as the Mind Flayer, the monster who attacked Will in Season 2. Michael Maher, the concept artist for ST, published in his site a bunch of concepts of this world which El sended 001 to, and he called it “Dimension X”. Dimension X is the actual in-universe official name for this dimension, as the recent released script of Episode 9 of Season 4 revealed to us. Maher described it as a “strange new environment which One would explore”.
This give hints that this world where El sended 001 in 1979 wasn´t the Upside Down. It´s a completely separated realm. The name is different, the design is different, there´s no spores in the air like in the UD….. and also, in various interviews the Duffer Brothers stated that they always wanted to answer from where these monsters are coming from when they have written the aspects of the mythology. The following quote shows this:
"pretty intricate in terms of what it all means, and where this monster actually came from, and why aren’t there more monsters”.
This is Ross Duffer describing the document they write to explain all the mythology in a interview of 2016. Notice that he says that the document answers where the Demogorgon actually came from, so he´s not native to the Upside Down, and it appears that they always have the idea of these monsters of the Upside Down coming from another world instead. This world only can be Dimension X, where 001 found the Demogorgons and the cloud of particles that would be transformed into the Mind Flayer. Another quote from a recent interview, which proves this:
“So we wrote this document — we spent like a week with our writers just writing out all the mythology and that really is where we really defined what the Upside Down was and where these monsters were coming from and what it all meant”. Again, they talk about answering where these monsters are coming from, so they´re not originally coming from the Upside Down.
So, Eleven sended 001 to Dimension X, a world existing in a different space-time spectrum and dimensional configuration from our world (which is the “Right Side-Up”). In Dimension X there are various alien species, like the vines and the Demogorgons. Also, there´s clouds of dark particles that form super-organisms of hive-mind intelligence. When 001 found one of these sentient beings, he molded it into the Mind Flayer and so created that giant spider-like entity we saw attacking Will in Season 2. Essentially, the Mind Flayer is a extension of Vecna´s psychotic conscience, and this is also what Jamie Campbell Bower, the actor who played Vecna, thinks, judged by the following quote:
“He created the Mind Flayer. That’s his creation, that’s his baby. That is an extension of his spiders that he loved growing up. The Upside Down itself feels like purgatory. It’s this never-ending desert of blood. It’s not blood, but you know what I mean?”.
The Upside Down is frozen at Nov 6, 1983, as we saw in S4. What this mean? This mean that the UD is not a active world copying Hawkins all the time, but rather, it´s a exact copy of Hawkins from Nov 6, 1983, the day which Eleven touched the Demogorgon and opened the Mothergate. I think that the UD was created in this day: when Eleven, at the Right Side-Up, touched the Demogorgon, from Dimension X, the two worlds touched and this created a finite world which is a mixture of Hawkins with Dimension X. The UD is this "amalgamation" of Hawkins with Dimension X, as it has vines and a dark atmosphere like that parallel dark dimension which Henry was sended to.
The brane-world concept of physics can very well explain how these dimensions works in ST. According to Oxford Dictionary of Physics, this is:
“A theory in which the four space–time dimensions of the universe that are apparent make up a surface, called the brane, in a higher-dimensional space–time, called the bulk”.
As i have understand it, the structure of our reality is organized in four dimensions, making a brane that defines the boundaries of our dimensional spectrum. However, we can have worlds existing in another branes, in another dimensional spectrums different to the spectrum of our reality, we can have worlds existing in realities organized in MORE than four dimensions, and we can´t see or access these parallel worlds. Dimension X is one of these worlds. The brane of our reality is separated from the brane of Dimension X by that strange hell-like environment which we´ve seen Henry falling before arriving at Dimension X. Michael Maher calls it “the Hellscape”, and describes it as a inter-dimensional space, so, this space of red lightinings and clouds is what separes the Right Side-Up from Dimension X. It´s a space between dimensions, between worlds.
When Eleven touched that Demogorgon while in the Void, the branes of Right Side-Up (only in Hawkins region) and Dimension X touched each other, breaking the Hellscape in that area and creating a fusion between Hawkins and Dimension X. While researching, i found a site called “Elwyns Big Bang Page” with a page explaining more deeply the brane-world cosmology, and here there´s a interesting idea with fits very well with my idea of the creation of the Upside Down:
“collisions between braneworlds can manifest themselves as big bang like beginnings, yielding universes that are parallel in time.”.
The collision of the brane that makes up the reality of Hawkins with the brane of Dimension X created a new finite universe parallel in time, the Upside Down!
Chris Trujillo, producer for Stranger Things, said something on a interview of 2017 to IndieWire that seems to fit very well with this concept of the Upside Down being a fusion between the two worlds, created when El touched the Demogorgon:
“Essentially, at the moment that the rift was formed and [unleashed] the monster, this dark dimension overlaps with the Hawkins’ world and it gets inflected with the vines and the spores”.
Chris said even more on the spotlights of Season 4, which puts even more credibility to this idea:
“The moment that the Upside Down was created inadvertently by Eleven, the set dressing and the world of the Upside Down is frozen in that moment”.
The Upside Down is frozen on Nov. 6, 1983, so it´s basically confirmed that it´s creation occurred on this day, when El touched the Demogorgon.
In a interview to GoldDerby, when asked about that strange world where Henry was sended to, Trujillo answered the following:
“In a way the Upside Down is almost this kind of amalgamation of this alternate dimension…..where we discover that Number One gets kind of pushed into this separate dimension….he essentially realizes that ‘oh i can use what i´ve found here..to sort of, create this world of my own’…and ultimately kind of land and wait for the time when the dimension opens up again..”.
So, it is basically confirmed that the creatures we´ve seen attacking Hawkins are, in fact, native from Dimension X, and that Henry created an army of monsters and then planned to contact Hawkins reality again, probably by putting a Demogorgon on Eleven´s void, creating the Upside Down, which is a amalgamation between Dimension X and Hawkins.
I think that the physics of the Upside Down works in this way: if you turn a light "on" in Hawkins, at the Right Side-Up, the energy charge running is not sufficiently to also move particles at the Upside Down in a way that also turns this light ´´on´´ in this parallel world, but, this event chain created by energy charge running at our world can move some electric particles at the Upside Down, creating a field of shiny particles around the Upside Down version of the light that was turned ´´on´´ in Hawkins! This field of shiny particles, if manipulated physically, can also move particles at the Right Side-Up, by this way, you can change light at Hawkins by manipulating this field of particles at the Upside Down, and this is what Will had done to communicate with Joyce using lights in S1!
This field of shiny particles is always around the Upside Down version of a light that has been turned "on" at Hawkins, as showed in S4E7.
With regard to how that whole hive-mind biology works, i think that Henry transcended his conscience into that cloud of dark particles. So, the dark particles now have Henry´s conscience on it, then any live being infected with the particles will also absorb part of Henry´s conscience and enter this hive-mind. That cloud of dark particles probably was a sentient being with a natural power of hive-mind, Henry only infected this hive-mind with his conscience and turned it into a monster that represents his thoughts and motivations. To truly end Vecna, i think there´s a need to destroy every piece of it´s conscience that is transcended: his physical body is only a way of manifestation to the real world, but he can also manifest through the particles. His mind is shared by every being he infected, so if we simply kill his physical body, he still will return in other ways.
When the Upside Down was created, a giant infectious gate naturally grown at the lab in Hawkins, and i think that a gate of the same kind also opened at Dimension X. Through this gate at Dimension X that Vecna sended the Mind Flayer to the Upside Down, but he probably wasn´t able to send any physical monsters, including himself, to the Upside Down, not until this gate at Dimension X have grown significantly, and this only ocurred some time at Season 3 or Season 4, when Vecna finally was able to pass physically to the Upside Down. The Demogorgon in S1 also had the ability to open mini Upside Down gates through Hawkins, and this probably is a ability that he absorbed due to it´s contact with Eleven in the void.
To end this, i want to give here a crazy possibility i´ve think about: in Duffers Brothers Masterclass, they show a early concept of the opening of the inter-dimensional gate having something to do with time travel experiments.
Here's the link to the screenshot of this scene:
https://imgur.com/gallery/L7GlGvX What if Dimension X is Earth in the future, after the apocalypse? What if Eleven psychic energy was able to travel space-time and reach future versions of our world, and Dimension X is one of these? What if 001 wanted to get to the past again for revenge, and the way to do this is by creating a world frozen in the past, (that is, the Upside Down), to reach the present from it? The story “Suspicious Minds” from 2019, which tells about the plot of Eleven´s mother in the lab with Brenner, shows that some subjects have been used to see the future, and one of these, which is a friend of Terry, describes that she has seen a monster with a flower mouth - a Demogorgon. If this is the future, then maybe my idea can be right. Maybe when Eleven entered the void in Season 1, she also seemed the future: a Demogorgon, from Dimension X. And when she touched this Demogorgon: the Upside Down - a gap between the past and the future - was created!
TL;DR: The Upside Down is a finite world created in November 6, 1983, when Eleven, while in the void, touched the Demogorgon. Upside Down is not a active world copying Hawkins all the time, rather, it´s a exact copy of Hawkins at the time it was created, mixed with the environment of Dimension X, the world where Henry was sended to by Eleven in 1979, and where he found the vines, the Demogorgons and that cloud of particles which later would be the Mind Flayer. When Eleven touched the Demogorgon, occurred a inter-dimensional contact between a being existing in the structure of the reality of Hawkins, at the Right Side-Up (Eleven), with a being existing in a different dimensional spectrum in another world, at Dimension X (the Demogorgon). The dimensional structure of the Right Side-Up touched the structure of Dimension X and this created a finite world that is a mixed copy of the two. This is the Upside Down. The existence of the Upside Down allowed Vecna to have some way to access Hawkins reality again and start his revenge.
What do you think about this? Any opinion and criticism will be greatly appreciated!

2023.05.30 17:24 Bluekitty26 AirBnB hosted in a place that it's not permitted, and I'm nervous
So, this is the first time I've ever used AirBnB because we need a place to stay as we are attending a funeral and we only needed it for 2 night and it was cheaper than a hotel for 4 people.
We found a place that looked good for the price and everything seemed super legit on the information page. It was a 2 bed flat and was a pretty decent size
We didn't do any research because we just assumed that who ever was hosting was doing all the things they were supposed to do properly.
But as we've come into the front door, on the wall there was a sign that said, "no AirBnBs permitted in this building" and other bits of info about contacting management to report it and so on and so forth.
No where on the AirBnBs page did it say anything about it/or even hint that it may not be allowed in the building.
I'm so nervous now that we are the ones who are going to get in trouble but we have no where else to stay.
Will we be ok? Or will we be kicked out of we are found out? I know it's only 2 nights and we aren't going to be in much but like for the first time using AirBnB, it's made me really think about not using it again, even if it is cheap

2023.05.30 17:20 improvius Want to Stare Into the Republican Soul in 2023?
The party was on at a gathering of unsung Republican heavyweights, and I was in search of the armadillo racing. The booze was flowing: Open bars numbered in the double digits, plus metal bathtubs teemed with beer on ice. Cover bands played and DJs spun. There was line dancing and trick ropers, twirling lassos and mechanical bulls, bucking riders and stilt-walkers.
And there were car dealers—thousands of them. So many gray blazers atop so many pairs of jeans, so many corporate logos embossed on so many fleece vests. So many, many men. This year’s blowout was in Dallas and the invite called for “Western duds,” so there were omni gallon hats and dinner-plate belt buckles too.
This was opening night of the NADA Show, the annual convention of the National Automobile Dealers Association, one of the most powerful trade organizations representing one of the richest professions in America, and there was much to celebrate.
The years since COVID hit had been some of the industry’s best ever. Supply-chain issues had sent prices skyrocketing. New car prices were up; used car prices
were up even more. “This has been an unexpected bonanza for new car dealers,” George Hoffer, professor emeritus of transportation economics at Virginia Commonwealth University, told
Time late last year. Only a few months prior, the research firm Haig Partners clocked average gross profit for dealers at
180 percent over 2019 levels.
Really, the past hundred years had been great. Auto dealers are one of the five most common professions among the
top 0.1 percent of American earners. Car dealers, gas station owners, and building contractors, it turns out, make up the
majority of the country’s 140,000 millionaires. Crunching numbers from the U.S. Census Bureau, data scientist and author Seth Stephens-Davidowitz found that over
20 percent of car dealerships in the U.S. have an owner banking more than $1.5 million per year.
And car dealers are not only one of the richest demographics in the United States. They’re also one of the most organized political factions—a conservative imperium giving millions of dollars to politicians at local, state, and national levels. They lobby through NADA, the organization staging the weekend’s festivities, and donate to Republicans at a rate of 6-to-1. Through those efforts, they’ve managed to write and rewrite laws to protect dealers and sponsor sympathetic politicians in all 50 states. All of which meant that this year, presidential hopeful Nikki Haley and Fox News darling Greg Gutfeld, among others, had made the pilgrimage to kiss the key ring.
...
In many ways, you can’t understand U.S. conservatism without understanding the car dealer—that middlemensch of American capitalism, selling a product he doesn’t make at a fat-enough markup to become fabulously rich and politically powerful. And dealers who have lodged themselves in the middle of Republican politics find themselves at a crossroads, just like the party they patronize. Underneath the froth, and the humidity, there was anxiety in the air. I journeyed to the NADA convention to hear the dealers’ vision of the future. What I found is a stark prescription for what Republicans want now.

2023.05.30 15:01 mavgirl777 AITAH for still resenting my sister after almost 3 years? SORRY ITS SO LONG!
2020 summer, My mom asked to fly me out to GA(where she lives) to visit for Memorial weekend and that my sister would be going out with us despite the fact me and my sister hadn’t talked since I moved out. So I again felt out numbered if anything was to go wrong but I sucked it up and still flew out to see them as I missed them a lot and this was the longest I had been away from them under these circumstances.
When I came it was awkward and me and my sister didn’t speak and I pretty much stayed in my old room. The animosity was so thick in the air and my mom just tried super hard to make it like we were a happy family of 3 and saying I didn’t have to act like I’m a guest even though they didn’t want me there for years. Skip to when we were out. We went to a Caribbean bar and we had a blast, all of our worries and ill feelings seemed to disappear it was like nothing ever happened. I am not a drinker so it doesn’t take much for me to get drunk or feel tipsy, However they can handle their liquor way better as they drink more than me..
So we decide we were ready to head home but my mother was the driver and is very sketchy about people driving her car even though I was the most sober out of the 3 of us I didn’t push the offer. We sat in the parking garage downtown until my mother felt she was okay to drive and we were okay waiting. As the conversations got deeper, my stomach just felt so weird as I felt it was turning into basically calling me out on my old behaviors and things they disliked. And yet again my sister mirrors or empathizes with my mom on whatever she feels. Which led me to saying “Okay I don’t think i’m comfortable talking about this anymore, it’s becoming 2 vs. 1 again, and I rather sit in quietness” which they both agreed to something similar as “There she goes again, when people call her out on her bs she no longer wants to talk” But it wasn’t what they were saying It was the fact I came here took off work to spend time with them and we had a great day and it’s turning into a negative one with me only having 3 days here, plus we all were drinking so we are saying our feelings more boldly and it’s now uncomfortable for me…
But my sister couldn’t let the situation go, so i secretly recorded us talking in my lap so later when it’s brought up they can see how it escalated and how I asked more than once to just drop the topic. So my sister proceeds to tell me to shut up while she’s talking and being very aggressive which I’m already used to.. she is 4 years older than me but I am not scared of her like I used to be when we were much younger. I was 21 at the time she was 25.. So I said your pointing your fingers in my face and getting aggressive like you want to fight. Which wasn’t me inviting her into a fight, I was stating her actions led me to believe she was so angry I shut down her coming at me that she was using gestures that she wanted to be physical. And she said matter of fact I do and tells me get out the car.
I stayed in the car and she got out the car opened the back door and tried pull me out the car, I am taller than her but we might weigh close to the same. We began to fight, in the parking garage downtown. The most embarrassing thing I’ve ever done with my mom there screaming to Stop and proceeds to fall trying to get my sister and I to let go of each other which made me more angry that my mother was on the floor crying. So when I got up to help my mom up i tripped and fell, my sister had already gotten back to the car and she was limping. After them getting into the car i tasted almost like sand texture in my mouth and noticed my front tooth was completely shattered into 3 pieces. which led me to having to extract my front tooth when I got home a few days later.. My sister suffered a broken leg and ankle which she needed surgery to have needles and pins inserted. I saw her social media in December that year and she was back walking/dancing for her birthday which is what made me upset when my mother said we both did equal damage to each other meanwhile I still dont have a tooth. Dental work is expensive, insurance or not. Covid was going on so I had a mask on almost everywhere anyways. I’ve had a tooth flipper, and alternatives so I don’t walk around looking crazy and my smile actually looks better than before.. But at night I take them out to sleep or when eating tough foods and still get reminded of the huge gap in my mouth and I’m still upset about it and rarely talk to my sister except when visiting. My mother doesn’t understand why I felt that way when I said it in 2022.. it’s now 2023 and I’m not sure if she still knows I do even though you can’t tell when we are all together. But part of me still hates her for it. I’m teary eyed writing this because she was my best friend at one point but I can’t seem to shake that feeling. AITAH?

2023.05.30 13:47 Touristplacestovisit A First Timer’s Guide to Chiang Rai
Chiang Rai – A quaint town in the mountainous northern province of Thailand and a treasure trove of some of the most stunning temples in the country. The landscape too is no less appealing, thanks to the mighty Kok River weaving its way through the region and dramatic mountains embracing the border.
Chiang Rai has a very laid-back vibe with less tourists, friendly residents and charming local markets with an air of authenticity. It is a perfect place to add to your Thailand itinerary if you are looking for something a bit quiet and offbeat. Here is a guide for your 1st visit to Chiang Rai.
Getting to Chiang Rai Chiang Rai has a small airport with regular flights from Bangkok. The flying time from Bangkok is approx. 1.5 hours and prices are reasonable.
The other cheaper yet longer option is to take an overnight bus from Bangkok to Chiang Rai.
Regular buses also ply between Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai. Journey time is around 3 hours.
Things to do and see in Chiang Rai White Temple (Wat Rong Khun) The famed White Temple of Chiang Rai has all reasons to be the centre of attention. The temple is all white with tiny mirrors used in the design which makes it glisten in the sun. The architecture is unlike any other temple in Thailand and is truly a masterpiece. However more than the architecture, it is the quirky installations around the temple that attract attention – the suspended heads from the tree, hands coming out of the ground and the ghoulish skulls. But as soon as you cross the bridge to enter the main temple, the feel sheerly changes from a tourist attraction into a place of worship.
Blue Temple (Wat Rong Suea Ten) This temple is our absolute favourite in Chiang Rai. For some reason, Sush and I liked this place much more than any other temple in the city. May be it was the zen vibe inside the temple or the bright colours working their magic. But there was this immense sense of calm and contentment we felt as we stepped in.
The vibrant Blue colour of the temple with radiant gold designs is also a visual delight. The interior is equally intriguing with a large white statue of Lord Buddha sitting under an elaborately painted roof. The walls have beautiful murals all over as well as the pillars. The ensemble has some more installations, like the huge statues at entrance, a smaller sized Buddha on a Blue throne and a little fountain in the middle.
Wat Hyua Pla Kang Another one of the must see temples in Chiang Rai is the Wat Hyua Pla Kang. A huge statue of Guan Yin (aka the Big Buddha) located on a Hill is actually hard to miss, especially after evening when it is all lit up. The temple complex also houses a vibrant red and green pagoda. And an opulent white temple with an all white interior and a snowy Buddha statue. This is also the place where you get to walk along the stares guarded by some super friendly dragons (who almost look alive). Read the full Blog Post

2023.05.30 13:43 yoragon The search for a tilt wheel gaming mouse
TL;DR: I'm looking for an entry-level/midrange gaming mouse with a tilt wheel (and side buttons). any comment, recommendation and advice would be more than welcome :) (all links are in the comments)
Hi
MouseReview! For the last couple of weeks I've been looking for a mouse with a tilt wheel function, and compiled a list of options in order to find myself a new mouse. I want this thread to also be a good starting point for future tilt wheel lovers looking for their next mouse.
Currently I'm using the
Logitech m560 (link in comments), and recently after its side buttons started malfunctioning, I've figured that it's high time for an upgrade.
Generally, I've been searching for an
entry-level/midrange gaming mouse for daily use, mostly for gaming, work and browsing.
Hardware: a gaming laptop.
Games: I'm playing mostly non-competitive games (though I do play them sometimes), mostly third-person single-player RPGs and rougelikes, and some multiplayer FPSs.
As of Work, it includes mostly coding, for which I really just need a mouse for the browsing part of it. It is important to me though that the mouse will be comfortable for this as well.
Hand preference: I'm right handed and would like to try an ergonomic design, though I have no problem with a symmetric mouse if it's comfortable.
Budget: an arbitrary sum of 55$ - though I am flexible about it.
Hand size: 19cm x 10.5cm (I wasn't sure if I was supposed to measure from the wrist or the end of the palm, might be 18cm x 10.5cm).
Grip: I think it's palm grip or a very relaxed fingertip grip. Tbh I'm not entirely sure what my grip is, as my m560 is relatively small so for me the palm itself can't really touch the mouse unless I claw it. What I can say for certain about my grip is that
I'm most comfortable when my fingers are completely resting on the mouse/slightly above it, while the scroll wheel is in line with my index finger's distal phalanx (which I think is the name for the top third of the finger?).
I mostly use my wrist for moving the mouse (but I also move my arm when playing).
Weight: I would like it to be relatively light so it won't strain my hand after hours of use, but I'm not looking for those ultra lightweight FPS mice.
Sensitivity: as of my understanding, most mice from reputable companies have wide sensitivity ranges, so I think any quality mouse will do. I'm not particularly looking for extraordinarily high sensitivity.
Connectivity: technically I have no preference, but as the wired options are usually significantly cheaper (and lighter), I tend to prefer them. That being said, I have seen people saying that wireless is better for laptops, so I wanted to ask you beautiful people for your thoughts on the issue. I also dislike mice with regular one-use batteries, so rechargeable is preferred among the wireless options.
Additional characteristics: looking for an entry-level/midrange gaming mouse with a tilt wheel (I sometimes saw it referred to as 4-way or 4-directional wheel) and few side buttons, preferably with not too many other features (for example no MMO/MOBA mouse side buttons, RGB and super high DPI are not a priority and there's no need for other bells and whistles).
Why a tilt wheel? Well, after using the m560 for quite a while, I've found it hard to come back. For me at least it offers a lot of utility for and requires minimal effort, making it too hard for me to give up on.
The significant downside, of course, is that not many gaming mice have this niche, mostly productivity-oriented feature.
In the first few days of my search for my next mouse, I barely managed to find anything, and I didn't seem to be the only one: many single-comment threads are scattered across the sub with people asking for suggestions for mice with this feature.
After a while, thanks mostly to this sub, I managed to compile a short list of mice that met most of my requirements:
Razer Basilisk series (specifically V2, ultimate, V3 and V3 Pro) – tbh probably my favorites out of the bunch. After compiling the list I centered most of my research around them. The specs seem amazing relative to the price, the reviews are very positive, I really like their design and they fit perfectly with my requirements. That being said, I fear that they might be a bit uncomfortable as I don't really know what my grip is (although reviews I watched said they are all pretty comfortable for most). I managed to find most of the options within my budget, except for the V3 Pro, as unsurprisingly yoinking that cable takes the affordability right with it. I have been trying to find deals on both it and the Ultimate, and I wanted to know, as per your experience, if you think that their wirelessness is indeed necessary for a laptop. Technically I'm not specifically looking for an RGB, so even taking the V2 is a pretty good option for me.
Razer Mamba Elite – seems pretty much straight to the point, though I found the Basilisk V3 with a lower price tag almost everywhere.
Razer Naga – seems nice but has a bit “too much” for my taste. Pricing is a bit all over the place, but I still prefer the Basilisks over it.
Razer Pro Click and
Click Pro Mini – probably the most similar to my measly m560, but I'd lie if I'd say I didn't want to really "feel" the upgrade and buy a gaming mouse. Plus, more importantly, the prices tend to be less friendly and exceed my budget.
Logitech G502 series – Probably the most frequent to appear in the search. Looks perfect for my needs and seems very attractive with the price tag for the older generations of the series, and even for some newer ones. I do have to point out, though, that after some research I noticed that in online comparisons between Razer's Basilisks and this series, the Basilisks almost always come up on top. Plus, I really dislike it when Logitech's tilt wheel registers when pressing the scroll wheel for M3, and I've read that this happens in most of the companies' models. On first glance I thought that the G502 models might be a little too much for me with their extra buttons, but
an amazing productivity mice review (link in comments) by
u/Buzz_Buzz_Buzz_ changed my mind a bit. I managed to find the original model for less than 20 bucks, and even then wireless Lightspeed and the newer wired G502x are usually sold at very comfortable prices.
Logitech G604 – I think that the feature I like the least in this option is the amount of side buttons, which I fear might make using them a chore. Aside from that, I'm not sure about the shape as I have seen that it was weird for some, and the fact that it uses an AA battery is also a downside for me. Other than that, it seems like a good option, especially for a wireless, as the prices are quite low.
Logitech G903 and
G900 – On paper they seem pretty fitting for my needs, but I had a hard time finding either of them online. They were mostly either partially working or with ridiculously high price tags.
Steelseries rival 500 – similar issue with the last pair – its age made it hard to find. Although it is a MMO/MOBA mouse, its layout seems more intuitive and easier to learn compared to other mice of this sort.
Roccat Kone series (specifically XTD, EMP, XP and XP Air) – the XTD and EMP suffer from the same fate as the previous mice on the list, the XP Air is out of my budget, but the XP seems fine. It has a lot of buttons, and although the layout seems a bit uncomfortable, the EasyShift thumb paddle is pretty elegant (though, again, might be too much for me). In addition to that, neither the RGB nor the “Minecraft mouse” selling points are really for me.
HyperX Pulsefire Raid – raised my interest after reading
a detailed and helpful review (link in comments) by
u/Kaytwo_TTV. It also has more buttons than I'm looking for, but it seems rather fine. It's a bit hard to find online as well, but in contrast to the previous mice with this issue, when I did manage to find it for sale it was at a bargain price well within my budget.
EVGA X17 and
X20 – seems like a good but heavy option, with a fair price point and surprisingly high availability. The sniper button though is in a weird position. Main drawback for me is the weight.
In addition to all of these, after some digging I found
a beautiful and comprehensive tilt wheel mice list (link in comments) which at least for me is pretty hard to comprehend. As my knowledge on the mice world is very limited, it was hard to try and research all of them, though I do think that most of the mice that are worth it are already in the original list.
If I'm wrong please correct me and add your own suggestions, it would be greatly appreciated.
Some sidenotes: This is my first time buying an actual mouse, and I'm not sure what's the optimal way of doing it. As I am looking for a budget option, I've opted to mostly searching on Ebay. Is this a smart choice? Is it generally safe to buy pre-owned mice, or should I strive to snag a new/open box product? I don't live in the US nor in the EU, so I feel like I don't have many options. I also fear that if I buy third-party, I won't be able to return the mouse in case it won't fit my grip. I'm generally worried about my grip, as I feel I don't really have a way to test it on other mice.
I've also heard of people avoiding Razer products, and heard that the software is pretty crappy. Is this something I should seriously be worried about (Or rather, is this something I have the luxury to worry about, considering my budget)? For perspective, I'm coming from the horrid SetPoint software, and I don't really care about profiles, on-board memory or RGB.
To be completely honest, if you think there's a great option (budget and performance wise) without the tilt wheel, I'll consider trying to get used to it and make do.
In conclusion: I've searched for tilt wheel options across the web, probably with the Razer Basilisk series and the Logitech G502 series as my top contenders.
What are your suggestions for the best mouse in this scenario? I'd be very thankful for any comment, recommendation and advice. Thanks for reading!
