I saw my doc today and asked for a body scan to get my total body composition - muscle, visceral fat, subcutaneous fat, bone, water etc. We will do these measurements again in two months to ensure I'm losing more fat than muscle. They also bumped up how many calories I need to eat per day since I'm also working out. I was surprised I had to ask for the scan as the doc I'm seeing is a weight loss surgeon. I would think they would want to track this for all their patients , not just the ones who want weight loss surgery.

I always thought of Mac's voice as being a little "off pitch" or "weird" in some of his songs, but I now realize how good of a singer he truly became. He didn't have a typical pop or R&B voice, he had an old school Jazz/Soul kind of vibe. I started noticing it around the release of Divine Feminine and it truly culminated in Circles. Towards the end of his career, I wouldn't even class him as a rapper anymore, more as a modern jazz artist. His evolution was insane and its truly crazy how much better and unique his singing voice became during his career.

So, I’m a 19 year old female. I’ve been on a calorie deficit for months and realised later that it was unhealthy. The thing is that’s the only way I have been losing weight. So since I’ve been adding calories I’ve plateaued on my weight at around 170-172 (I have tried to weigh every day but I think that’s doing more harm than good). But why I am making this post is because I was house sitting for someone for a week while still doing regular exercise but I ended up in the same unhealthy under 1000 calories (I would eat more like 700-800) and I lost weight and weighed about 168 now I’m back home I am back to 170. I am upset by this but I know the mindset I have with calories is unhealthy. Can I get some advice?

Hey all,
I have been thinking about buying my macbook pro. My last mac was a macbook air m1 without promotion. I loved it, but I felt the screen was too small and the refresh rate wasn’t snappy enough for me, so I have been saving up to get a macbook pro 16 inch.
So far everything seems great on the MBP16 machine, but I ran into a video with someone complaining about the refresh rates and motion blur on the Macbook Pros screen. The reviewer was mostly looking at the laptop from the perspective of gaming, stating that the refresh rates and input lag (?) makes responding to onscreen attacks difficult. He seemed really bias against apple in the review, so I thought I would go here to hear the other side. It surprised me because I heard nothing but great things about the monitor.
Currently, I have been using an iPad Pro 2018 model. And gaming on it has not been a problem at all and I am sure this machine has similar or worse refresh rates / motion blur.
I would be reading a lot on the machine since I am a writer and student, so I was wondering if the scrolling experience is worse than the Ipad Pro 2018
Have any of you noticed these issues? Also these are just things I could solve with an external monitor if I want to actually game, correct?

2023.06.01 04:41 Mektige Is there such a thing as a true USB-C splitter? (see post for details)

I have a Mac Mini and a Surface Laptop. My monitor has only one USB-C port and one HDMI port. I can plug the Mini into the HDMI and the laptop into USB-C, then I plug my older Logi mouse/keyboard dongles into the USB-A on the back of the monitor. But my monitor will only let me use the mouse/keyboard on the USB-C device. I don't have a KVM switch, and I don't want to have to invest in one if at all possible.
I'm wondering if a literal USB-C splitter exists that will just let me plug both computers into that one port and use my monitor's controls to switch between them while taking my mouse/keyboard along for the ride.
Long story short, I want to be able to use the single USB-C port to do all three of these things:
  1. Charge and display my laptop
  2. Display my Mac Mini
  3. Use my mouse/keyboard on whichever I'm currently displaying
Is this possible? Or am I misunderstanding how this all works? Go easy on me - I've researched this stuff, but I can't really find this info cleanly explained. :/

2023.06.01 04:34 Buttergolem245 Does weight training actually slow down scale changes?

I’ve been on a pretty steep deficit for the last 3 months and lost about 55 lbs, 324->269, and it’s been pretty steady for the most part, and not super draining either since I have so much body fat. I started up weight training for the first time ever recently and have been maximizing my benefit from that as much as possible, upping my protein and keeping about 40% protein, 40% fat(it keeps me feeling fuller than carbs, just personal preference), and 20% carbs. I have noticed that in the last week or two my rate of weight loss has slowed considerably(about 25% less over the last week) I realize 2 weeks is normally not enough data, but I can physically see the slope of the line has decreased, and in the last 4 days my weight has stayed the same, going up or down less than a 1/4 pound. I track calories, use a Fitbit and an app to measure my TDEE(Fitbit says 3200 average, the app measures based on food logging and weight changes over 7 days and says 3000, but its in an upward trend).
If my total calories haven’t changed even slightly, then is it because of weight training? This might be a dumb question and I’ve way over informed, but I’m curious.

Hi I’m 22(f) A couple days ago I noticed hives all over my body I’ve never had hives before and I’m not allergic to anything and I’ve never had seasonal allergies before at first I thought it was because I changed my sheets on my bed and I thought maybe I used a different laundry soap (although I’ve never had sensitive skin) and they went away after an hour or two but then they came back and I started to realize they would come after I had just got done eating literally after eating and drinking anything I had an orange and there was flare up I had grilled cheese for dinner and my entire chin was swollen with welts and my face was covered with hives I even had a flare up after drinking water. I’ve been considering go to a doctor to be seen for other heath things that I think might be related I’ve been painfully bloating after any heavy meal (I’ve never had stomach problems in my life) I’ve been having problems with either constipation/diarrhea and I’ve been having a concerning amount of weight loose but most of the time gets over looked because of being fat I’ve lost 38 pounds in the last 3 months and I haven’t changed much about my lifestyle or diet except for some days I have extreme hunger I literally eat none stop and some days I eat nothing because If I do I will throw it up. I do have a thyroid disorder but I take medicine and my blood work came back normal levels some other minor things are chronic migraines and difficulty sleeping I’m just at a lost I’m not sure if what I’m going through is just my thyroid or if it’s something else I have very limited access to a doctor so basically I’m asking if I should go to the emergency room or wait about a couple weeks when I have access to a primary care doctor. I also would like to ease my anxiety as I’m a scared I’m dying or have something really bad (I have diagnosed ocd and this kind of stuff is scary)

Hi everyone! I just wanted to share my story and see if anyone could relate, and maybe have any tips on which tests I should be asking for next?
After I gave birth in 2020 I found myself rapidly gaining weight and not being able to lose a single pound even while in a pretty decent calorie deficit. I struggled with this for years blaming myself and thinking I was just destined to be obese because I had a baby. As time went on I developed horrible acne, to the point where it hurts to touch my face to even clean it sometimes. I started having memory loss and blamed it on my possible adhd (which it def could be idk). I have migraines that are excruciating, I’m in so much pain sometimes I actually get sick and my vision feels off. The pain is felt right behind my eyes. Recently I noticed my face has plumped up and I have grown a double chin. I have a very noticeable buffalo hump, and starting to get small striae on my belly. I have bruises covering my arms and legs constantly. My most recent weird issue has been my digestive system, I have diarrhea and constipation on and off now every day.
I saw a tiktok last month about cushings and it caused me to start researching. I started actually tearing up when reading the stories of people with Cushings and their symptoms, it sounded so similar to what I’ve been struggling with. I feel like the past three years have been awful and I’ve been robbed of happiness because of my body failing me. I’ve been telling my husband that I feel like an outsider in my body, and I’m losing myself more as the days go on.
My primary care physician ordered just a “cortisol random” blood test. I had it done at 8am and the normal range was 4-22, my cortisol was 26.8. The report from the lab didn’t mark it as elevated though, so I’m not sure. I’m now waiting for a follow up with my primary care provider and I’m going to ask for a referral to a endo and hopefully they’ll listen to me. I really feel like this is it, I’m hoping this is it honestly. I just want to feel healthy and enjoy my life with my little girl ☹️. Thanks for listening to my rant❤️

I bought an iPad Air (2020) + Apple Pencil 2. I’m aware this isn’t even the best on the market right now, but I am impressed with where ipad is in more recent times. I’ve had an ipad 2 and iPad mini 4 over the years and I always thought they felt more like a big iPod touch….
As a creative, the new iPads without home button feel powerful enough to be a main driver for me. I have used my Mac mini and MacBook Pro a lot less, finding myself just using the ipad and it’s convenience.
Of course, I think there could be more done with the software but I’m enjoying iPad!

im trying to take losing weight seriously now, as i want to feel better about myself. ive started a calorie deficit, and eating healthier, with no more unhealthy snacks. im going to start going on walks until i can get a gym membership and a car (within the next month or two). my biggest fear about starting cardio is losing chest fat. im wanting to lose weight in my stomach, arms, and back mostly, but wouldnt mind other areas, but i dont want to lose my chest. i see many tiktoks and progress pictures and most women lose their chest fat. is there a way to avoid it somewhat or entirely? thats my one hesitation to start exercising asap.

I’m 16 years old, 6 foot and weigh around 165lbs I started training around 4ish months ago and my starting weight was 152lbs
I train in the gym (mostly dumbell weights 8-10 rep range) 5 times a week
And do 100 push-ups a day
Also going to start playing soccer 3-5 times a week.
I also get roughly 10k steps a day without soccer
I’m currently eating roughly 2950 calories a day, (closer to 3150 adding the cals lost after 10k steps)
I have a few questions:
Am I doing everything correct? I feel as I’m gaining more fat then muscle
When I start playing soccer, should I eat back the calories I burn during the soccer session
Am I eating to much, I feel as I am due to me gaining some fat, if so could anyone help restructure my calories I should be achieving
Sorry for all the stuff, just trying to fix myself up, thanks in advance.

Reason for this post is I seriously want to cut down and get into good shape. I have decent to beginner experiences with the gym, in and out of it since high school. I was looking to cutdown to 74KG (165lbs). Was looking for some help on counting calories + macros (how much I should be consuming or if there are any good links out there I can give a read). Similarly, was wondering if there were any recommended workout plans? Ideally, I want to workout 4 times with week (most feasible with work) alongside, 2-3 runs a week.

I will be going to London, Paris, and Rome in October. I'm trying to figure out what I need to get and I figured I'd ask on here because I bet a bunch of people know about this stuff! I don't know squat about this sort of thing so any information would be helpful!
Devices I plan to bring: Laptop (MacBook Pro), iPad, iPhone, Nintendo Switch, 2 portable chargers (1 charges with micro, 1 charges with USB C), and my hair straightener - link to straightener for reference. Additionally, I have an extension cord for my laptop that has a 3 prong plug on the end. Can I use that or do I need to switch it back to the 2-prong attachment without the extra extension?
What do I need to get as far as adapters/cables/etc? Typically I charge my phone by connecting it to my laptop. I know I'll need some adapters, does anyone have any recommendations? I went to Italy once when I was 15 and my straightener then got fried, my dad said it was a voltage issue but didn't know more than that. Thanks in advance!
