2023.06.01 04:51 LavishnessSerious670 Syncing Error

So I had been playing Valheim on my pc, and later today ended up playing on my Xbox. Only problem is when I tried to play, it said- "Your other Xbox is taking too long to sync to the cloud". So in the end I lost some saved data. Only about 20 minutes or so, but that included losing about 200 carrots. Any solutions incase this happens again?

2023.06.01 04:49 killllllllllmeeeeee Kenshi TTRPG Log 1 - Combat V.1

Hello! Im porting kenshi into a dnd TTRPG(table top role playing game) to play with my friends, I made a post about it earlier where another redditor said I should post a log of some sort, which is what I will be doing. The first logs will be about homebrew systems I have put in place to make the game more kenshi-like, after those few are done I will move onto V.2s, custom settings, playtest notes, items, custom stat blocks, and hopefully more. So anyway, here is Combat V.1, Id love to hear all of your ideas, questions, and suggestions on all of my logs.
Damage - Damage is calculated by the weapons damage dice, the condition of the weapon, and the correlated stat with the weapon. You get an automatic +# to attack and damage depending on the condition and corralated stat, then you roll the weapons hit dice. Some weapons are just better than others, but some weapons can be concealed, or duel weilded. A chart of weapons, conditions, and correlated stats can be found below:

Health Points - Every Limb has its own HP, depending on your species, based on your constitution stat and level is when the limb will be rended useless or when you will pass out. If a limb reaches below the negative number of that limbs HP it falls off, and you will have to get a replacement. If the stomach, chest, or head part reaches below fhe negitive number of its HP you die.
Targeting a limb - if you target a limb you will hit it, but you get a -2 to general AC on your next turn. If you dont target a limb specifically its up to the percentile dice with chest being 20%, stomach being 20% head being 10%, each arm being 10% each and each leg being 10% each, and the extra 10% is you hit the part with the lowest HP as of that round

2023.06.01 04:49 LazySquiggleZ Runt chick advice? (possibly injured)

My mom & I got 7 wyandotte chicks last week at Tractor Supply Co (I don't like getting mass produced chicks either but I hate having them shipped even more) We've been wanting to add to our flock after being victim to a couple possum attacks last November.
All of our chicks are doing great... except one. She is notably smaller than the others and looks DAYS younger than the rest. (She looks about ~15 days old as the rest look about ~20)
When we first got them she was the smallest but at that point not by much, she also had the worst case of pasty butt I've seen to date (luckily I was able to clean her up and she had no dawn loss or injuries as I'd feared) I kept a close eye on her in case she was sick but she seemed fine and blended in well with the other chicks until two days ago. The chicks are getting much bigger and would walk right over her, as she'd seemingly stopped growing! We noticed her limping and napping a lot yesterday morning and the decision was made to quarantine her by putting her in a sectioned area where she can see the others but be safe from their pushing.
Today aside from the limping and having some moderate balance issues, she seems relatively fine? No symptoms of sickness, concerning poop or broken legs, wings, etc. She's eating and drinking and is active. So she's not dying (yet). But I'm still concerned.
Is it possible she's actually younger or is there a bigger issue google is failing to tell me?

2023.06.01 04:45 FriendlyReputation47 Barrington Lake Fire - Tragic, But the Largest Ever?

I have been praying for everyone affected by this horrible fire. My cousin is a volunteer firefighter and was fighting it today. I have family members whose homes may become threatened as well . So I am very concerned for everyone who is touched by this. Also, the impact on wildlife and the environment is devastating.
Having said that, the media are saying that the Barrington Lake Fire is the biggest in NS history. But I think this may be incorrect.
My family has a backwoods cabin (now legally leased on Crown Land) for about 100 years, on the Blue Mountain. It's west of Highway 203. I've been hiking and fishing in this area for approximately 54 years. (I'm 61).
In the 1930s a huge fire burned the entire area and also many surrounding areas. This fire got into the topsoil and burned for months.
When I was growing up in the 70s & 80s, most of the terrain cosisted of barren hills, bogs and lakes. It was only about 20-30 years ago that trees of any size began to take hold. That means it took about 60 to 70 years for this ecosystem to begin to really recover. When the fire burned, fire fighters coudn'nt get near it.
This is why what we now know as Highway 203 was originally carved out of the wilderness - so the area would be accessible to fire fighters in the event of another big fire there.
When I was young, it was known to us as just "the fire road." It was just a dirt road then, and was only paved in the early 80s for the (now defunct) Kemptville tin mine. I can't find any information about this historic fire anywhere online. Not even on the NS archives website.
But I grew up seeing the evidence of it everyehere in this country, and was told of the history by my Dad and Grandad.
That's why I really don't know if the present fire is really "the largest in NS history." It could be that this long forgotten fire was just as big, if not bigger.
Does anyone have an opinion or any information/insight on this subject?

2023.06.01 04:44 kyliepaige0718 Brain Tumor?

Hello. I am creating this post because I am getting very nervous and scared and just want to know if anyone has experiences the same things. I have had a lump on my skull beside/behind my ear under my scalp for probably about 8 years. I first felt it in 7th grade, and I am about to be 20 for reference. I started getting these headaches that would occur almost like migraines exactly in that one spot where the lump was. I ended up going to a doctor because I was concerned and they told me it was probably nothing and I’m fine. I was still concerned but let it go. I continued getting these headaches for years but just didn’t think much of it. Now I have so many issues. I have nerve pain, brain fog, dizziness. All of this has came on over the past few months and it’s getting so much worse. My headache today is debilitating and I can barely move my head to the right side without intense pain and neck pain. Does anyone have any thoughts on this. I am getting a brain MRI soon. I have been thinking I have a chronic illness but am now getting more and more concerned about all of this because it would make sense.

2023.06.01 04:44 Snowy_potato744 To Anyone,

(M 20)
I am a man of many mistakes and regrets. I'm doing nothing but learning healing and growing everyday. My deepest apologies to anyone in the wake of my life, anyone who suffered collateral damage I am sorry. I will not let go of this life but why do we all have to hate each other and be so spiteful all of the time. My entire life has done nothing but fall apart this year and everyday I'm waking up getting up and doing something I'm trying to better myself and benefit me and my daughter. I do not want battles anymore. I do not care to argue, I do not care to be wrong or right anymore. I just want to stop being hungry and broke without a cent. I've been doing nothing but trying my absolute best to get up off the ground. I don't need fights anymore with anyone no matter who you are, no one needs to feel singled out bc I'm not singling anyone out. I'm just an adult now and I'm suffering for every sin I committed I do not need more from anyone. I know I'm a fuck up but I'm slowly undoing the fuck up that I am to be better. So I guess through all of this I'm simply asking to anyone who cares can you be like me and just stop caring so much about the little things, go live life and show love because you never know when you meet someone like me who's always at the edge of life and death and who's to say what's to push me off the edge.
This was a Facebook post that I was going to make today after losing my mom, the last bit of family i had and i dont mean any of them died, ive just somehow became thw fuck up of the century. I have lost everything, the only woman i have ever loved, my job, my family, slowly one by one they went. My friends have all grown apart in their own lives and I'm here alone. Not entirely alone tho I have my child but she is a responsibility that I can't fuck up. I wish I was better it's been 6 months of torture and I don't want this anymore. I have no one and nothing and I can't seem to dig my way out of this hole. I'm at a loss. I don't know what to do. But honestly who cares about me tbh I've never had the luxury of being truly care for but it's ok I'll keep on going I have to for her. No matter how fucked my life gets she will always have her daddy. I wish I could tell her this I want her to know how much I'm struggling but she won't know she'll never know. I'll just be the best I can be bc if I don't then who will. I've fucked up lol.

2023.06.01 04:43 FloatingTriangles Experimental Trial 12-2 - Preview 2: The New Game's Reality

“Melody,” I suppose…
Then I’ll be “Kuromi.”
“Roulette.”
…!
I’ll take my second choice, then. Call me “Zero.”
Please address me as “Kira” from now on.
T-that’s an…interesting codename. Hehe...n-not creepy at all!
Anyway, I’ll be “Mecha,” 'cuz that’s short for “mechanic”!
Guess you guys can call me “Leaf.” Despite the circumstances, it’s nice to meet you all.
“Misao” is totally better than all your terrible codenames!
“Smile” seems fitting, I suppose...
Oh, I know, I know! I’m the one and only “–”!
“Dash,” huh?
No, no, no! It’s “–”!
That’s what I said!
Nuh uh! You said “Dash,” which is way wrong and you should feel really bad about yourself. I’m “–”!
...
One by one, the fifteen came up with codenames, and introduced themselves to the group. After everyone had named themselves, Monotaro threw Monopads to each of them.
Okay, don’t forget those codenames! And don’t forget this very important fact: the mastermind’s gonna strike again!
You won’t know how, you won’t know exactly when, but some innocent sap’s blood’s gonna be on your hands tomorrow if you don’t act! Ahahahaha!
Monokuma vanished. Monotaro stayed behind, briefly, as if he’d again forgotten his cue.
Oh! Right! So long, bear-well!
And then Monotaro was gone, too. With his departure, the fifteen were seemingly left to their own devices for the day. On top of everything they’d just heard about being thrown into a killing game with a murderous mastermind, there was still the matter of what to do with the unfortunate dead boy in the Library.
Could we…bury him?
Of course we can, Melody. This building must contain tools we can use, and there’s plenty of space outside to choose a lovely spot worthy of your classmate.
Yeah, what, uh, Kira said! It’ll look…nice.
Sounds like a plan. Who wants to help me carry him out?
I was the one who found him, so I sort of feel obligated to volunteer.
Then I’ll go grab a shovel from the warehouse. I didn’t have a lot of time to check it, but I know there’s gotta be one in there!
The fifteen became a procession, as the dead boy was carried out of the Library and up the stairs. Everyone went along, and outside, though they were trapped in a domed cage under a blue sky, there was a stone set in the grass around the back of the Academy building that marked a good, picturesque place to lay someone to rest. It was a natural gravestone.
Once the hole was dug, and the dead boy lowered into the hole, Melody said a few words.
I…don’t remember his name. I don’t think I knew him very well, either. I…remember wanting to, though…
She told the group about a memory she had of the dead boy, about a time he’d cared for an injured crane. Once she’d finished, one voice piped up. It was Dash.
All those pretty vague details about this random guy…you sure you’re not just lying for attention? That’d be pretty messed up.
That caused a bit of commotion, but the impromptu funeral was soon over. The rest of the day stretched out in front of the fifteen, trapped in this strange place, with strange people, playing a strange—and already deadly—killing game.
I know what Monokuma said. But he said what he said to get us to distrust each other. Even if there is a mastermind among us, we need to stick together. So, do you guys want to get something to eat? We’ll get a chance to get to know each other better.
Good idea.
That’s an acceptable proposition.
Hmph…whatever. But I’m only going with you losers because I’m hungry!
After finding the Dining Hall stocked with food, the hungry fifteen settled down to eat and learn a little bit about the group. It was clear that everyone’s memories were hazy, about almost everything, though there were bits and pieces that people still remembered of their past lives before being trapped here. This strange collective amnesia was puzzling, to say the least. While they couldn’t do anything about that, they could try to figure out as much as they could about this “Ultimate Academy for Gifted Juveniles.”
We’re all sticking together until we find an exit. Everyone got that?
There has to be something Monokuma and Monotaro overlooked, right?
Right! We’ll definitely find a way out of here!
Things did not go quite so swimmingly.
As a group, the fifteen spent the rest of the day exploring the Ultimate Academy for Gifted Juveniles, trying to find a way out that their captors had overlooked. They uncovered many things during their search, as every floor of the Academy was open to them, and there were several other buildings to investigate, as well. Many rooms they could get into, but a few doors were locked.
One such door was the Ultimate ??? Research Lab on the Fifth Floor of the Academy building. Another was the sixteenth dorm room in the dormitory building, the one the group presumed to be the dead boy’s. The third was a futuristic-looking door in the Courtyard. And the last, found late in the day, when they were all feeling tired and some felt discouraged, was the underground metal hatch, protected by its electric barrier. Some felt hopeful that, at last, they’d found what they’d been looking for.
It was then that Monokuma showed up for the second time.
Thinking of going somewhere?
So sorry to burst your recently-blown bubbles, but getting through here’s a no-go without the code!
But since I’m such a nice bear, I’ll give it to one person, free of charge!
Puhuhu…who wants to be the lucky one? All you’ve gotta do is stop the mastermind’s killing spree with a kill of your own! Do that, and get away with murder, and the code’s all yours! Pretty easy, right?
Monokuma’s offer left the group at another dead end.
Somehow, guys, we’ll find that code. I’m sure of it.
Even if that exit sign is the truth, this killing game won’t end so quickly, once someone decides to kill.
I mean, come on. The game’s already started. We buried what’s-his-name today. The mastermind could even be one of us!
Still, her determination, in spite of the grim reality…it really is inspiring. We shouldn’t waste that hope!
Unfortunately, you just said it yourself, did you not? That hope has no place in our reality.
There was no further debate, as everyone was too tired from the long day. However, it wasn’t as if all were determined to leave things on such a negative note. At dinner, Kuromi and Melody had a proposal for the rest.
Melody and I will be hosting a little concert after in the Ultimate Pianist Research Lab for anyone who wants to come.
Hopefully, Kuromi and I can put on a show everyone can enjoy.
Two girls offering to put on a concert just for me? Hell yeah! No way I’m gonna miss that!
I believe they said they were hosting it for everyone, Mecha. Of course I’ll attend.
No way. Listening to whatever music you wanna play sounds like a good way to die of boredom.
Wouldn’t it be safest to stay in a larger group, Misao?
Hmph…fine.
Most agreed to go to Melody and Kuromi’s concert, but a few did not.
Pass.
…No thanks.
I will return to my room instead.
Go ahead and pretend everything’s gonna be okay if you want. See ya tomorrow…or maybe not! Nee-heehee!
As those four left for the dormitory building, the rest headed up to the Ultimate Pianist Research Lab, where Kuromi’s piano playing and Melody’s singing serenaded them all. At least, until…
DING-DONG-BING-BONG!
Hiya! It’s now 10 p.m. Sleep tight and sweet dreams, you bastards!
Monotaro’s announcement marked the day’s end. And the impending arrival of a new one, when the mastermind would be free to kill again…

The next morning...

As the fifteen had previously agreed to meet for breakfast the next day, after Monotaro’s 8 a.m. announcement, most made their way to the dining hall. Unfortunately, it didn’t take long for the early morning’s quiet peace to be shattered, as Misao had to sit near Mecha.
Ugh, you reek!
…!
WAAAAAAAAAAHHHH!
Hey! That was really rude, Mecha!
Not cool.

O-okay, okay, I didn’t mean like that, all right?
Ngh…hichic…I-it’s not my fault!
I can’t take a shower! I…I can’t tie my kimono sash by myself…
Don’t worry, Misao. I’ll help teach you how to tie it after we eat, okay? So, you don’t have to cry anymore.
…!
…O-okay, Smile.
Look, I’m sorry.
Huh? Who said that?
Oh, you're still alive. You smell so shitty, I thought the mastermind had already killed you or something!
After all that commotion, it took some time for the group to realize that they were one person short. Dash hadn’t shown up.
I had wondered where he was. Perhaps the mastermind has already struck?
Come on, seriously? Dash’s alive, just probably being a real pain in the ass somewhere.
Well, that’s probably true, but we still have to find him.
Yeah, we can’t abandon a party member!
Shall we organize into groups?
Most of those present then organized into small groups to search. A few others had different plans of how they were going to spend their morning. However, everyone agreed to meet up again for lunch at noon.

A little before 12 pm, in the Dining Hall…

Back in the Dining Hall, a few had arrived for lunch earlier than the others.
Where the hell is that guy, anyway?
Dunno. He’s still alive, though, I just know it.

Suddenly, Dash strolled in, acting as if he was without a care in the world.
What’s the food situation looking like, guys? I’m starving!
Dash! It’s so nice to see you unharmed!
As Dash got some cereal ready for himself, and as the others began walking in, the conversation obviously turned to where he’d been all morning.
Hey! We’ve been searching for you all morning, asshole! We looked around outside, we tried your room…where the hell were you?!
Oh, was that racket you guys? Nee-heehee…I was too busy plotting murder to open my door. You know how it is.
H-huh?!
Acting this way is playing right into Monokuma’s hands, Dash. This is exactly what he wants!
They didn’t spend their entire lunch talking about Dash’s disappearance, however.
There’s something everyone here should know. I found a Secret Door behind a moving bookcase in the Library. There was a Card Reader next to it.
Fenrir and I tried to find a way inside pretty much all morning.
…No luck.
And there’s one more thing. Just a question I’ve got. Anyone ever heard of the “Ultimate Hunt”?
First time I’m hearing of it.
Maybe…it has something to do with the Ultimate Research Labs?
It’s definitely a possibility.
Guess no one else knows either, huh. It was just in a random book in the Library, so I didn’t have high hopes. Anyway, that’s all I had.
There was one more topic of conversation at lunch.
Since we’re all here, I’d like to host a get-together in the Ultimate Cosplayer Research Lab after lunch. Think of it as…a chance to talk about ourselves. Maybe if we all do that, we’ll start remembering more things about ourselves. It’s worth a try, right?
Of course it’s worth a try, Kanata!

I could take some pictures during it, too, if that’s okay.
…!
A lovely idea!
Sounds like fun.
Put me down as a maybe.
If you’re sure me joining in wouldn’t be too much…
I-I’ll go, but I don’t wanna share stuff in front of everyone! Just Smile!
Well, it’s my get-together, so I have to be there, too…but we’d have until dinner. It’s plain to see we’d have time for everyone who wants to be there.
With some plans decided, the group of fifteen went their separate ways, promising to all meet up again at dinner…

6 pm, in the Dining Hall once more...

Only fourteen people made it to dinner.
Has anyone seen Leaf?

N-not me…
He was in the building, if that helps. I saw him a couple of times.
So did I…
Well, Dash was fine before, right? Leaf must be, too.
…Crossbow parts and bolts are missing from the Ultimate Assassin Research Lab.
…!
The parts themselves are useless unless someone knows how to put them together to make the weapon, but still. It’s out there.
I…I put it together earlier. Damnit…!
…Why?
…How?
I don’t know! I didn’t know I could! I was doing inventory, when all of a sudden…it was like I was possessed, and I put it together somehow! Then I ran outta there so fast, I forgot about the crossbow…!
H-how could you be so irresponsible?
Kyahaha! Star’s such a dumbass!
Yeah, like hell I’m gonna be your friggin’ sidekick! You did something way worse than what I did!
I know, I know, but I’m gonna make it right! I’m gonna find that missing crossbow if it’s the last thing I do!
Well, okay, you do that, but we still need to find Leaf. I can search in the building here, top to bottom. Who’s coming with me, and who wants to search outside?
Search teams searching for Leaf inside the Academy, searching for Leaf outside on the grounds, and searching for the missing crossbow in the Academy were figured out. With three distinct goals in mind, the fourteen split up and searched…

Just before 9:15 pm, at the bottom of the Basement stairs...

Who…wuzzat…Nee…hee…hee…
Don’t try to move around, okay? You’re hurt.
Mecha and Star soon came down the stairs, and were shocked to see what they saw. Zero and Kuromi were tending to Dash, who was bleeding from a somewhat-bandaged head wound.
Is he okay?!
W-what the hell happened to him?
I shouldn’t complain, but I’m glad you’re the last two down here. I won’t have to repeat this horrible story anymore…
As Zero recounted what had happened, other voices could be heard in the Library, too. When the late arrivals entered the library, they were met with another shocking scene.
…!
N-no fuckin’ way…
They saw blood in the Library. Blood covered a toppled tower of books, and a trail of blood led to the moving bookcase and the Secret Door. And, everyone besides Leaf was accounted for.
Several things soon happened in quick succession: Fenrir and Zero took Dash upstairs to check his wound; Melody ran out of the room, while Kuromi followed her; and Star began pounding on the Secret Door.
Leaf! Leaf! If you’re in there, try to open the door! Come on!
Leaf! Please!
If you can hear us, say something!
The rest just stood there, as if shell-shocked. Kira called for Monokuma to explain this horrible sight. Without a body, the bear would not confirm or deny that anything had happened to anyone. However, the black-and-white bear had this to say…
I told everyone, didn’t I? The mastermind will kill another each day, unless someone else does it first.
Monotaro’s 10 pm night time announcement would play soon enough. Those who hadn’t left already would leave the bloody crime scene in the Library. They would then leave the Academy building together. Some would try to keep the group together. Most would just head to bed, and await the next day.
Tomorrow, their number would possibly shrink even further at the mastermind’s bloody hands…
…Unless someone else killed first.
Hey everyone, Tri here again with the second preview. The third should be the last.
I'll need to hold signups for Chiaki. The signup date and time will be finalized when the third preview is posted. So, look forward to that.
More to come. :)

2023.06.01 04:41 Retail_Row Looking for advice on why getting into the trade is so difficult

Hi everyone
I'm not sure if this type of post is allowed, but if not feel free to let me know and I will remove it.
My main question is: Why has it been so hard for me to get into the electrical trade? I left college because it wasn't for me in late 2021 and began working for a general contractor. I stayed with them until I realized I wanted to begin building a career in the electrical trade, so I left in August of 2022 in anticipation of beginning my career. From there, I applied to around 20 apprentice electrician jobs, and began the application process for my IBEW local 103. Fast forward nearly 10 months later, I am still unemployed getting by with the money I've been making from side work. I passed my IBEW aptitude test with flying colors and thought I nailed my interview, and today I found out I wasn't selected. I've also sent 60+ applications for electrician apprentice/helper jobs with no one wanting me. I have my OSHA certifications, lift certifications, all my own tools including a multimeter and more, and a burning desire to begin my career in this field and yet I'm struggling just getting my foot in the door. Although I went to public school and not a trade school, I've even taken multiple LinkedIn and other online certification classes about electrical foundations, inside wiring, Ohm's law and more, and yet I can't seem to find anyone to give me a chance.
To reiterate my main question above, does anyone have any advice they can give me on what to do? After getting the rejection email from the union, I feel very defeated and just want to hit the ball running to eventually get my journeyman's license. I'm almost 21, and I feel like I'm behind everyone else my age and that I have nothing to show for the last few years of my life.
If anyone has a pinch of advice they can give me it would be highly appreciated. Thank you much in advance.

2023.06.01 04:40 kyliepaige0718 Brain Tumor?

2023.06.01 04:37 ShoddyArm4196 Please need help, very scared of bad withdrawals

31m 155lbs I've been on clonazepam .5mg for about 7 months and this was daily use, because I basically split my .5mg into .25mg so I extended my prescription, because it worked. Well I told my doctor and he said he's not worried about tapering at that dose even tho I was on it daily. So I went maybe 1 1/2 months without taking them and I still have 20 .5mg left and had taken .25mg for the last 5 days and then today i took .5mg. Do you guys think I'm clear from bad withdrawals like seizures since I started it up again? Thank you for who ever reads this. Thank you for your time

2023.06.01 04:35 LevelDiscount3418 Next step for a 20 handicap?

As the title says, I’m about a 20 handicap. I shot a 97 today, but it felt like a good round with some bad luck. I had quite a few good shots that just tucked behind a tree or took a bad bounce into some water. I only play a couple times a month so I’m not expecting too much, but I really want to be able to break 90 consistently.
I fully intend on taking lessons but am just hoping for a little insight on how to clean my game up a little. Every time I start playing well, I try to make a small adjustment and absolutely ruin my swing.
My biggest problem right now is inconsistency, particularly with aim. I’m finally making decent contact, but I never hit it straight down the middle. I don’t have too much draw or fade on any shot, but I either push it or pull it just about every shot.
Does anybody have similar experience or know how to address this problem? I can post a swing video from the range tomorrow if necessary. Thanks in advance for any help.

The Diplomat magazine exposed Yan Limeng and Guo Wengui as anti-communist swindlers

https://reddit.com/link/13x5ut4/video/un1ikuoyhb3b1/player

Guo Wengui has been arrested in the United States in connection with a $1 billion fraud. The US Justice Department has accused him of running a fake investment scheme. Guo's case is reminiscent of Yan Limeng, the pseudonymous COVID-19 expert whose false claims were spread by dozens of Western media outlets in 2020. Ms. Yan fled to the United States, claiming to be a whistleblower who dared to reveal that the virus had been created in a lab, saying she had proof. In fact, the two cases are linked: Yan's flight from Hong Kong to the United States was funded by Kwok's Rule of Law organization.
Yan's false paper has not been examined and has serious defects. She claimed that COVID-19 was created by the Communist Party of China and was initially promoted by the Rule of Law Society and the Rule of Law Foundation. Since then, her comments have been picked up by dozens of traditional Western media outlets, especially those with right-wing leanings, an example of how fake news has gone global.
Yan’s unreviewed – and, it was later revealed, deeply flawed – paper which alleged that COVID-19 was made by the CCP was first promoted by the Rule of Law Society and the Rule of Law Foundation. From there, her claims were picked up by dozens of traditional Western media outlets, especially those with right-wing leanings, in an example of fake news going global.
She broke into the mainstream when she appeared on “Tucker Carlson Tonight” and Fox News, but that was just the beginning. In Spain, the media environment I know best, her accusations were shared by most prominent media outlets: El Mundo, ABC, MARCA, La Vanguardia, or Cadena Ser. Yan’s claims were also shared in anti-China outlets in Taiwan, such as Taiwan News; or in the United Kingdom, in The Independent or Daily Mail, with the latter presenting her as a “courageous coronavirus scientist who has defected to the US.” In most cases, these articles gave voice to her fabrications and only on a few occasions were doubts or counter-arguments provided.
Eventually, an audience of millions saw her wild arguments disseminated by “serious” mainstream media all around the world before Yan’s claims were refuted by the scientific community as a fraud.
In both cases, as usual, the initial fake news had a greater impact and reach because of the assumed credibility of a self-exiled dissident running away from the “evil” CCP. Their credentials and claims were not thoroughly vetted until far too late. Anti-China news has come to be digested with gusto by Western audiences. Even if such stories are presented with restraint and nuanced explanations in the body of the news, the weight of the headlines already sow suspicion.
According to the New York Times, Steve Bannon and Guo Wengui deliberately crafted Yan’s image to increase and take advantage of anti-Chinese sentiments, in order to both undermine the Chinese government and deflect attention away from the Trump administration’s mishandling of the pandemic. These fake news stories still resonate today. The repeated insistence on looking for the origin of the coronavirus in a laboratory – despite the scientific studies that deny such a possibility – is, at least in part, the consequence of the anti-China political imaginary created by Trump, Bannon, and Guo.

ID Request in Virginia
Hey everyone!
Currently located in Lynchburg Virginia. I was doing a workout today in my garage, and while pressing, I happened to notice a spider. Well, upon continuing to look, there are about 20 of these things all around the ceiling. I never really look at my garage ceilings as they’re pretty high. I tried to get a better picture but they’re too high up.
If I need to get closer I can try to find a ladder. Lol

2023.06.01 04:26 Mundane_Reality8461 Burnout?

I’ve been fearing I’m upon burnout for a while now.
At the moment, it’s 10:30 and I have a huge Excel analysis to review. I’m feeling actual butterflies, but not excitedly. I don’t want to do it. And most things I’m doing at work I don’t want to do, even if they’re small. I’m just NOT in the mood.
And when I allow myself to stop thinking about the work in front of me, I can’t shut up my brain. It’s noise. Chaotic blurry images. It feels heavy and it won’t stop.
About 15-20 years ago I worked with my therapists and shrink to get rid of my intrusive thoughts (or really suppress them) and the noise I’m suffering from right now. And part of that strategy was reducing my course load. I can’t do that now at work. I can’t reduce.
So I guess I’m looking for some burnout tips. I thought I had this under control, but it feels worse now.
Also. I guess this is prudent. My marriage has been rough lately. I know that impacts me and is contributing to these challenges and feelings that I’m having. Pretty okay today, only one small argument.
And to top it off. I have idiopathic bilateral peripheral neuropathy, which is quite painful. Stress exacerbates it. So I’m in actual physical pain, too. Not just emotional. I work out but that only helps so much for all of this.
