Mac friendly printer best for family needs?

2023.06.03 17:23 drumsonfire Mac friendly printer best for family needs?

Greetings Printer family- hopefully this request of opinion post follows community guidelines.
We only want to buy one printer for the family needs; Mine are strictly b&w documents, but occasionally wife needs to print high quality color photos for image boards. Our current HP All in one color printer seems to streak unwanted colors across documents and have poorly balanced color printing. What seems smartest might be laser for documents and to farm out the color printing to a higher end output place when we need it?
Printer is 3 years old- I've done all the recommended maintenance steps and changed out cartridges multiple times.
What would you do? I am a largely uneducated printers community memeber

2023.06.02 16:26 benlinf HP Deskjet 3050a not printing black

Hi all,
I've been searching Google for quite some time now but can't find a solution.
My Grandmother has a HP Deskjet 3050a all-in-one printer. We changed the cartridges, as they were low, but, now can't print anything with black.
The alignment page prints fine after installing the ink (including the black parts) but, when scanning the alignment page, it says it can't detect it so fails.
The printer has some built in games (Sudoku, tic tac toe, etc) which print black just fine, as does the alignment page itself. Scanner works fine scanning to PC, so don't think there are any issues there. Just the alignment page not being detected by the scanner.
Don't know if the two are linked. All the "solutions" I've found so far all point to the same support page for HP and none of them change anything as they only address print quality issues, not the alignment failing or the black not printing at all.
The ink monitor does not show anything for the black cartridge either, tried several new ones, all show no ink.

Should we just replace the whole thing at this point or does anyone know of a way to fix this?
TIA

2023.06.01 23:04 Les-El I know you're sick of OptiPlex 7040's, but it's for office work

It's too late anyway; I've already bought it.
$68
It replaces:
HP Spectre x360 13-4111dx laptop * i7-6500U
This is what I've been asking that poor, suffering laptop to do all at once:
When I replace the laptop, I'm definitely adding a third screen back into the mix.
Big question: Would spending between $10 - $50 bucks on a used, half-height graphics card do anything at all for me? Even taking a little load off the CPU would help... but would a card do that?
Can the newly freed up iGPU do anything to help any of my other processing? (Accelerated graphics settings in Chrome, maybe? Is that a thing?) Or will my gains be offset by the load of sending everything back and forth through the PCIe?
I'm waaaaay out of my depth here. Snappy response is important enough that I've even turned off the GUI animations, and check for bloatware with every Windows "update." Some education, and maybe a little common sense, would really be appreciated. Thanks!
PS: I have no interest in playing with adapters, or fiddling with my PSU; I have to live with my 180W.

2023.06.01 20:47 ispb2 Printer suggestions?

Looking for a printer for a small business and was hoping I could get some suggestions.
We need to print about 10,000 pages a month. Color. Right now we're just using a combination of cheap desktop printers and Office Depot trips for large runs.
Right now the toner cost is quite high. I don't know much about printing, but my partner says that the type of paper we're using (It's some kind of plastic based, extremely durable, these are being used in industrial setting so they either need to be this special paper or we need to laminate everything) requires that we use quite a bit of toner and we're running through a black HP 206A cartridge in about 500 pages. This seems crazy low to me but again I don't know much about printing. At 100 bucks a pop this adds up, obviously.
He was considering looking into a more commercial grade printer, say in the 10k range, the expectation being that the toner cost will be lower.
Just trying to roughly compare TCOs on our options here. I did some very basic research but with my lack of background knowledge, I'm not even quite sure where to begin.

2023.06.01 10:12 printwizard12 Printer Service Solutions: Maximizing Efficiency and Troubleshooting Tips

Hey Reddit community!
Are you tired of dealing with printer problems that hinder your productivity? Look no further! Today, I want to share some valuable insights and tips regarding printer solutions. Whether you're a student, a small business owner, or simply someone who relies on a printer for various tasks, this post is for you.
  1. Regular Maintenance: Just like any other electronic device, printers require regular maintenance to ensure optimal performance. Cleaning the printer heads, removing dust and debris, and checking for paper jams are simple yet effective maintenance tasks that can prevent future issues and extend the lifespan of your printer. Taking a few minutes to perform these tasks can save you hours of frustration down the road.
  2. Update Firmware and Drivers: Keeping your printer's firmware and drivers up to date is crucial. Manufacturers often release updates to address bugs, enhance compatibility, and improve overall performance. Check your printer manufacturer's website or utilize automatic software update tools to ensure you're running the latest version. Updated firmware and drivers can resolve common issues and unlock new features.
  3. Troubleshooting Common Problems: Printer not printing? Paper jamming? Faded prints? These common printer problems can be incredibly frustrating, but fear not! There are several troubleshooting steps you can take before calling for professional help. Start by checking for paper jams, ensuring ink or toner levels are sufficient, and verifying that cables are securely connected. Additionally, referring to the printer's user manual or the manufacturer's online support resources can provide step-by-step troubleshooting guidance.
  4. Utilize Remote Support: Many printer manufacturers offer remote support options, allowing technicians to diagnose and resolve issues remotely. This convenient service saves time and eliminates the need for in-person visits. Take advantage of this feature if it's available for your printer model. Remote support can often solve software-related problems, configure settings, or guide you through troubleshooting steps, all without leaving the comfort of your home or office.
  5. Professional Printer Service: In some cases, printer issues may require professional assistance. If you've exhausted all troubleshooting steps and your printer still refuses to cooperate, it's time to seek help from a qualified technician. Reach out to authorized service centers or contact the printer manufacturer's support team. They have the expertise and specialized tools to diagnose and repair complex issues.
Remember, prevention is key. Regular maintenance, proper handling of paper and cartridges, and avoiding low-quality supplies can significantly reduce the likelihood of encountering printer problems in the first place.
So, the next time you find yourself in a printer-related predicament, don't panic! Take a deep breath, follow these tips, and you'll be back on track in no time.
Feel free to share your Hp printer service experiences, troubleshooting tips, or any questions you may have in the comments below. Let's help each other conquer those printer woes and boost productivity!
Happy printing!

2023.05.30 22:50 Kyxstrez I may have done a big mistake... WTF HP

I bought a HP 4120e. I knew about the shitty DRM that HP has, I knew also how they enforced it with a firmware update a couple months ago, but I thought I could just never ever connect my printer to the internet and be fine using third-party cartridges that cost 5 times less... But now I just received the printer and I noticed a sticker on the USB port, so I checked the manual and it says that this printer can only be set up through Wi-Fi with an internet connection, not through USB. And even if you want to use USB after the initial setup, the printer will always require an internet connection at all times... This is the worst crap I'ever seen in my life fighting with bullshit DRMs.
HP here is literally just trying to shove their HP Instant Ink subscription down your throat as hard as they can, they aren't even selling a printer anymore but a piece of software. You buy a piece of hardware that you don't own since day-1 and that you must ask permission to use and that you can use only in the way HP wants. Things must have really gone wrong with the world if we came to this...
Please tell me if there's a workaround to use the printer offline or I'm just gonna return this.

2023.05.30 16:10 SilverShad0vv Customized NFC Card Artwork Showcase

Customized NFC Card Artwork Showcase
Hey, fellow Amiibomb enthusiasts!
I wanted to share my latest project with all of you. I've created a series of customized artwork for NFC cards using canva.com, and I'm thrilled with the results. These printable stickers are perfect for enhancing your Amiibomb experience!
To check out the complete set of images, head over to my project on Canva: Link to Canva Project. You can view and even download/save them if you'd like to use them for your own Amiibomb collection.
When it came to printing the stickers, I found that using glossy sticker paper (Link to Glossy Sticker Paper) worked best. I used an HP OfficeJet Pro 9020 and utilized the print and cut option from Cricut for precision.
Pro tip: When printing on glossy paper, make sure to select photo quality to ensure the ink cures properly.
For those who prefer different dimensions, feel free to recreate the project using your preferred ratio. I personally used a rectangle shape with rounded corners, with the dimensions set to Wide = 3.15 and Height = 2.099. Note that the stickers don't cover the entire height of the card.
I carefully applied each sticker by hand, and the end result looks fantastic. I hope this project inspires you to get creative and personalize your own NFC cards for Amiibomb!
Feel free to share your thoughts, ideas, or any questions you may have. Happy Amiibombing!
