So I heard, and I'm not sure if this is correct, if you pay $250 annually you get all the new upgrades, but if you pay the $550 one time payment you do not...is this true?
I would rather pay the $550 and never pay again, but then you get screwed out of so much new stuff. It's like being an existing customer of a mobil phone provider. The new customers get all the new upgrades while the full paying customer gets nothing new and is stuck with the same old service?

This framing refocuses the discussion on how to make imperfect data work for imperfect environments, rather than either exalting or completely foreclosing the use of technology.
They see data and technologies not as solutions to human problems, but as just the latest way that human frailties like bias become further enshrined in cultural practices.
Both camps represent views with legitimate concerns about the world, and in the best circumstances, laudable motivations to address those concerns. Both camps also represent forms of myopic thinking that lead to miscommunication, stalemate, and often direct conflict. Both sides would benefit by bracketing their respective ideologies and examining how they each have failed in the past to carry out their objectives.
These problems accumulate along a spectrum of harms, including unreasonable flows of commercial data to government agencies, commercial surveillance practices that monetize and manipulate behavior, automated decision-making systems that unwittingly introduce or exacerbate unlawful discrimination.
And yet, commercial service providers are less constrained, and entire marketplaces have emerged for the accumulation, packaging, and reselling of digital communications information to private and public sector buyers alike.
Commercial “surveillance capitalism” does not simply seek methods of benignly monetizing our interactions with digital applications; it actually shapes our behaviors, beliefs, and interactions with the world.
Suffice to say, there are several and notably severe ways in which algorithms built to purpose can have consequential impacts on peoples’ lives: credit and lending determinations by financial institutions, candidate selection by recruiting agencies and employers, screening services by health providers, to name a few. Data evangelists who fail to acknowledge these demonstrable risks and the harms they have already effectuated on the lives of real people are living in a world of fantasy. They perpetuate a doctrine of technology salvation at the expense of not just their own credibility, but with real consequences to individuals and potentially growing backlash against even the most responsible and defensible variations of their current and future wares. Data evangelists would do well to temper their technological religiosity and spend a bit more time interacting with the people and communities their innovations ultimately exist to serve.
But this does not imply that all data and data-driven technologies should be discarded out of hand any more than individual testimonials should be dismissed as just the opinion of one or several person(s). Data may be flawed as much as human attestations may be flawed.
Dealing with the world as it is (even to the end of changing it to be otherwise) necessitates an appreciation — or at minimum, a recognition — of the ways that data and data technologies can serve as powerful tools for helping us address the compounding complexities of modern life.
The goal is not to arrive at a uniformly perfect state of affairs (an impossibility!), but to achieve outcomes that all parties should be willing to accept as imperfect relative to their respective starting positions. This goal is as much a process as it is an outcome. It ultimately reflects a shared (even if not fully agreed upon) recognition of conscious choices, necessary trade-offs, and a common vision of the practical realities of operating in a messy, imperfect world.
At Palantir, our customers use our software platforms to process their most sensitive information. Palantir does not collect, store, or broker customer data. Instead, we provide customers with software platforms to integrate, analyze, and operationalize the data they already lawfully control.
Scheduled deletion of sensitive data by default. Technologists tend to like the idea of keeping data forever in case it might prove useful at some later point. Data that is no longer necessary for a specific business purpose, however, should be deleted, especially if such data is sensitive. Storage limitation and the regular deletion of collected data can reduce the risk of data misuse or repurposing. Sensitive data such as employee information, in particular, should be stored with scheduled deletion dates by default. If scheduled deletion is not appropriate, then the employer should have the burden to explain why data should be held indefinitely. Moreover, data deletion should encompass not only the originally collected data, but also any derived data or models trained on the data. In our experience, building software with comprehensive deletion tooling can encourage privacy by default and more accountable use of sensitive data
Sensitive personnel data should always be minimized by default, and a variety of encryption, tokenization, or other pseudonymization techniques can be used to achieve this result.
In our response to the Covid-19 pandemic, we implemented Purpose-Based Access Controls (PBAC) to help customers enforce use limitation.33 This method of granular access controls enabled healthcare organizations to rapidly bring data together to respond to the pandemic, while also allowing governance teams to granularly administer and oversee the use of sensitive data.
Our work has demonstrated compelling results that confirm technological development and data privacy are not mutually exclusive concepts. We hope that these case studies will help inform NTIA’s policy considerations and ultimately lead to more effective standards and expectations for data processing that protects privacy, equity, and civil rights of individuals.

I accidentally made three installments of property tax payments on my house in 2022 and I'm not sure if I screwed myself over for 2023 when I do my taxes.
(1) I paid my 2021 installment #2 in Spring of 2022 of ~$5800 when it was due
(2) I paid my 2022 installment #1 in Fall of 2022 of ~$5900 when it was due
(3) I paid 2022 Installment #2 in Fall of 2022 of ~$5900 well before it was due. This was an accident and I usually pay this in Spring of 2023 and claim it on my 2023 tax return.
So for 2022, I have paid $17,600 in property tax but can only claim $10,000 because I itemize. Can I claim the accidental third payment for my 2023 tax return even though it was paid in 2022 or do I need to go get a refund and pay them back this year (2023) to claim it on my 2023 tax return? I don't want to only claim 2023 Installment #1 of 2023 on my 2023 tax return because it will only be about $5900 and I'll lose out on around $600.

Hey Everyone,
I wanted to provide a very brief summary on the basics of Medicare and some FAQs I get as a Financial Planner. Again, I want to stress this is a high level overview for those of you in here who are perhaps thinking about Retirement, but unfamiliar with the basics of Medicare.
Here are the basic components of Medicare:
Part C, Medicare Advantage, is likely the one you see commercials about during day time TV. Usually they have an old school celebrity or athlete as a spokesperson. One reason for this is that Medicare Advantage is actually NOT a Government Administered program unlike Traditional Medicare. Medicare Advantage is run through private companies. These companies are paid by the Government when someone enrolls in their Medicare Advantage program (it's one reason why you see statements such as getting money back everyone month from enrolling). While you still will have Part A and B, most of your benefits will be covered by the advantage plan. Advantage Plans can offer additional benefits such as Dental, Vision and more.
Supplemental Insurance (Medigap) is optional insurance that you can pay for to supplement your A & B coverage. A common misconception is that A&B covers all your medical bills and this is false. Medigap can fill the void to limit your out of pocket for various medical services.
Part D provides coverage for prescription Drug costs, this part of Medicare is optional.
Income Related Monthly Adjustment Amounts (IRMAA) For 2023, the monthly Medicare Part B Base premium amount is $164.90. If you opt for Part D coverage, you'll also pay an additional premium for your part D coverage. Depending on your Modified Adjusted Gross Income from 2 years prior, you may have to pay additional premium surcharges. These surcharges are known as IRMAA. Which is better, Medigap or Medicare Advantage?
A common dilemma many retirees face is whether to pick a Medigap plan or Medicare Advantage. Medigap, generally has higher monthly premiums associated with it, however you generally have a lot more flexibility in terms of choosing doctors and services. Medicare Advantage, while typically cheaper is more of an HMO structure. If you have ever experienced having HMO insurance, you know it can feel restrictive. From experience, some retirees really don't mind it and like the lower monthly costs. Others would rather pay a little more for more flexibility. As a Financial Planner, when I am doing a financial plan, I always assume a medigap plan will be used unless the client states otherwise.
Does Medicare Cover Long Term Care Costs?
Medicare does not cover long term care costs. If you want long term care coverage, you will need to either pay for a separate long term care policy or self insure.
What if I have IRMAA surcharges but my income is lower now?
There are 8 qualifying life changing events which you can find here: https://www.ssa.gov/forms/ssa-44.pdf
. For example if you were working in 2021 with elevated income but have since retired, and have seen a reduction in income, you can file out form SSA - 44 to request that your IRMAA be reduced based on your current income level.
Should I do Roth Conversions or Draw from my Pre-Tax Retirement Accounts if it will incur IRMAA surcharges?
Unfortunately, the answer to this is it depends. For example, when I do a retirement plan for a client, we'll factor in IRMAA surcharges if we deploy a multi year Roth Conversion strategy or opt to delay Social Security and draw from our tax-deferred retirement accounts instead. Based on the analysis it may completely make sense to bite the bullet on IRMAA surcharges, in exchange for reduced RMDs in the future and/or a higher social security benefit. However, everyone's situation will be different. What I will say is that as a CFP, I see far too many retirees let the IRMAA tail, wag the dog. Yes, it is important to keep in mind, but I would encourage you to not write off a particular tax or income strategy purely for the sake of IRMAA.

Promotion: Aug 2020
Insurance Firm: July – Mar 2022
Global Accounting/Finance Firm: Apr 2022 – Feb 2023
The above companies and respective years is a time line of my career. To give some background, I started out in Recruitment at a staffing agency upon graduating college. Like many others, it kind of just happened rather than me truly seeking it out. Regarding my first agency experience, they had an MSP (middle man between agency and client) and as many of you may know, if your AM doesn’t have a real relationship with client then your candidates typically don’t get chosen. So, I was actually recruited to another agency that touted having personal relationships with their clients so I left. This was a good experience for me because this is when I realized that I am actually a really good recruiter. I continued staffing telecommunication professionals as well as Finance and a little IT. As mentioned, I soared in this environment but after a year I realized that I wanted more out of my 40 hours than just recruiting. I know that there is a lot of value in agency recruitment but I realized that I am a little more analytical than sales so I get bored with the hunt for candidates all day/every day. I also didn’t see much of a career trajectory for me.
Anyways, I left agency and went into Corporate Recruitment/Talent Acquisition because I felt that there was a chance to do other tasks as well as actually consult with hiring managers, collaborate with other teams in a company and DEI initiatives. I also saw this as an opportunity to move into a more HR role if I saw fit. I did really well at my first corporate recruitment gig and even received a promotion within the first 8 months. With that being said I was forced to search for other opportunities because I did not receive a pay increase with this promotion as the company blamed COVID. I ended up staying for 1 year and 8 months before pulling the plug. I joined an insurance firm as there TA consultant where I recruited for experienced hires as well as manage the intern recruitment program. My tenure here was 8 months as this company was just not the right fit for me; lack of diversity and insurance is a really boring industry in general. Side note: apart of my job WAS to increase diversity of course. Anyways, this led me to my dream company which was one of the Big 4. I truly enjoyed the people as well as the work because it really allowed me to flex my consulting skills but also provided the chance to learn a lot. Unfortunately, I was a part of a mass lay off this March and I am back in the market leaving me with a total of 11 months with my last company.
I know that I am still young in my career and that maybe I shouldn’t worry too much about tenure because I am trying to find what works for me but I can’t help but feel a little nervous about it. I recently was asked “what do I feel has been stopping me from progressing within my career?” My reply was that I have actually progressed within my career but some circumstances were out of my control. I even provided examples on where I progressed i.e. promotions and awards.
My question: Can I omit some of my experience and/or exaggerate one of my staffing agencies? For example, merge my two agency companies together as one experience? Essentially deleting one of the companies to make it seem my agency experience was only at one company but just a longer time period. I generally merge the two companies together anyways as I feel like my first experience wasn’t much of an experience. I just want to get my foot in the door during interviews as I do really well with interviews so I just don’t want this to be the piece that takes me out.

My question: Can I omit some of my experience and/or exaggerate one of my staffing agencies? For example, merge my two agency companies together as one experience? Essentially deleting one of the companies to make it seem my agency experience was only at one company but just a longer time period. I generally merge the two companies together anyways as I feel like my first experience wasn’t much of an experience. I just want to get my foot in the door during interviews as I do really well with interviews so I just don’t want this to be the piece that takes me out.

So the other night I took an edible and was watching an action movie. The high was quite intense and I was beginning to get paranoid so I started to try and meditate on these feelings by just observing. I felt like I was in a tug of war, constantly going back and forth between awareness and distraction. I started to get this idea that this struggle between awareness and ego connected to the idea of ying and yang and the whole idea of meditation is to let go and see the 'one' in the two. I also then thought that this was linked on a macro scale to the world being in a kind of war between awareness and mindlessness and at the moment mindlessness is "winning" and this manifests as capitalism, consumerism, violence, greed, and tyranny. Then I started paying attention to this action movie and just was like what the fuck the idea of killing is completely normalized and this just cemented my previous thought. Like no wonder there is so much violence in the world if this is stimuli that we receive. These thoughts made feel depressed and a bit hopeless for the future of the world but I also don't know if these thoughts are just delusions of the mind. I also think that the idea of seeing the true nature of reality through meditation is a very destabilizing experience, if done hastily, much much more so then I expected.

I did it. I messed around and found out. Why? Pure curiosity. Now I regret it extremely but I also am scared and pissed.
Short background- my father left the country leaving my mother, brother and myself, alone. He was the sole bread winner of the family. My brother is in his late teens out of highschool and I am in my mid 20's. As of now, I am supporting my family financially entirely. I am paying for everything but their food- which is paid for by my mother. She is living off savings she had saved up from pre-marriage to my father.
My mother has been paying my brothers student loans since July, except the last two months. Those I paid for. (I cosigned them, terrible mistake I know...) He only went for a semester for reference.
Instead of saving $ I spend $2000 in rent and electric (other utilities are included in rent), $30 for wifi, $50 in car loans, $700 in my own student loans and $50 for car insurance. I drive almost 2 hours a day to work back and forth because my mother insisted we stay in our state to keep their state health insurance, and I don't make 3x rent. I had to call every potential land lord crying and pleading for them to rent to me. My entire life I lived with my parents aside from college, no one wanted to rent to me. Now we have a two bedroom. My mother and bro share a room. She has a normal sleep schedule (midnightish to 8amish) and he sleeps from 6/7am to around 2pm. When shes asleep he's in the living room. I have my own room - I insisted since I pay for everything i need my own space. I go into my savings monthly just to make the bare minimum payments (not including my own food and gas).
So fast forward to yesterday, my brother went out with my mom and left his computer unlocked. I looked through the tabs he had opened and found nothing insane, or out of the ordinary. I did however find his tumblr. There I found his girlfriends page. When I went to delete my history I accidentally closed the browser and saw a folder in the middle of his desktop. I clicked it. It was pictures of his gf in all angles. Nude, not nude. All clearly taken by her. I don't know if she is local or not but he never leaves the apartment. He doesn't have a car or license.
I think she is a terrible person for him. She has a plethora of mental disorders and constantly posts about 9/11 conspiracies as well as posts about how she is so disabled that she cant work and that there are many people who are willing to care for her fully so what is the point of working ever?
My brother doesn't work or go to school at the moment no matter how much I try and tell him to get a job or go to school. I don't care what he does just do something! He is on his computer from the second he wakes up to when he goes to bed. Now that I know he has this gf, I can assume that when my mother and I are asleep he is just up all night talking to her. Yes hes a teenage boy and he's horny, but come on???? SHE IS 100% CONVINCED SHE HAS MULTIPLE PERSONALITIES AND ONE OF THEM IS EMINEM??? In her damn bio on tumblr she says she has ADD, ADHD, DID, and a low IQ as well as autism. This girl doesn't need the internet or to talk to my brother 24/7 she needs therapy. Not self diagnosis. (I only assume this because she posted a few things about how she never has been to a doctor because she doesn't trust them). From one human to another - she deserves love and help if she so needs it in any way. But I am worried she is either brainwashing my brother into thinking its ok to never work- that people are lining up to care for you entirely. OR that he is taking advantage of her because she sends him nudes and he doesn't have to do much to keep her (being long distance). I can't think of why he is with her otherwise.
Anyway- I can't tell him that I know about her but I also can't do nothing. I feel extremely terrible for what I did snooping... I did not sleep last night.- BUT I am myself clinically depressed, see a therapist (but I stopped since we moved back in August due to lack of funds and distance from therapy). It is not fair for me to be working all day, drive an hour home, only to come home and cook my own dinner, and lunch for work and repeat? For what? So he can stay at home and whack off to this crazy chick who's a hardcore 9/11 conspiracy theorist when she isn't Eminem? My brother is not physically or mentally disabled. He can work or go to school- he just choses not to. He was the top of his class all of highschool and had a 3.9 GPA. In College we pulled him out because that was when my dad left the country and he became a bit depressed and stressed out about that. Even if he worked just part time it would benefit not only me (by him having money to pay his own loan off and help chip in for phone and internet) but it would do him good imo to get outside. Talk to people in person. I thought about telling him I am changing the internet password. Maybe giving him access to the internet for like 4 hours a day and then cutting him off. Not giving him the new password until I see some job or college applications?
If I move out at the end of the lease in August, both my mom and bro will be incomeless and homeless. I remind them everyday of this and just just laugh it off. I am trying to become mentally stronger and cut ties if I must, but I will not lie. They gaslight me and guilt me into being their cash cow. I need things to change or I am not sure how this story will end. I am 1000% not ok with supporting them both just so he can get off at 3am to his insane gf. It's been since Dec 2021 that he's been out of school and he's just been glued to the computer since then. My mother enables him. She thinks its ok. He's her precious boy and I am obligated to help because I am the oldest.... (only by 5 years may I add).
