We have 2 full time copywriters and we are hiring a third. We want a talented writer who we can train our way.
Now, the thing most people do is send their resume to me via this ad. Well, don't. Please read this entirely and carefully before you respond. Thank you so much!
Tired of the hamster wheel of low paid writing jobs? Want a real career writing that lets you enjoy life and make money?
You will become a SUPER good writer able work as a writer and command the big bucks, and you get paid WEEKLY. And you'll have an opportunity to help us with videos and commercial production.
This is an amazing entry level situation helping to put together video ads, scripts, editing a newsletter, writing articles, writing sales letters and emails, and working for our publishing business. And you will be using AI to help.

If you have film school experience, all the better. If you have an English or History or similar degree, you can begin making real money, and then a lot of money, working at your house for a company in business 25 years, who pays you every Monday and trains you constantly.
I'm not looking for an experienced copywriter. I'm looking for a "cub" we can train. I am not interested in people who have been writing for 25 years. You must be a college graduate in any event, preferably in English, History, MFA, etc. Actually even a BS in science is fine.
You must be in the USA. Once you are with us for awhile you are welcome to travel the world but you must be in the USA to start.
Our business is providing information on alternative health remedies, help with sex problems for men, and supplements for men as well as other products for men (colognes for instance.)
...so every day you'll write emails, ads and sales letters.
We'll train you as long as you are already super good writer and AMBITIOUS. The last person doing this job (who is still with us) is making a good solid six figures.

So now, if you've come this far, here is how to apply. If you just send me a resume you will hear nothing from me and it will be trashed. I want you to include a resume, for sure, and a paragraph about why this job interests you and why you are ideal for it. Also 3 recent books you read, and a sentence or two on each one and what it meant to you. Also 3 questions you have about the job. Plus 3 writing samples from you. Links are preferred. Send to cognitivefun at gmail.com.
I am not allowed to open attachments so NO MS Word files please, only Google Docs or links to your site. NO attachments please. NO ATTACHMENTS WILL BE OPENED EVER. Sorry, it's because our security doesn't allow attachments.
I will NOT read anything that you email me unless you comply with this requirement. It will just be deleted, because that's one of the tests that you need to pass. If you send me attachments, I won't see them.
Our process is back and forth until we have each made a decision. I'll send you a video if I feel you are good for this and you can learn more.
Then you'll have a quick free test to take, then if that goes well, you'll get another video that is very detailed from one of our copywriters so you can go in here with your eyes open.
Make sure you have ZERO grammatical and spelling mistakes and put your best foot forward. If all is good after that test you'll be hired immediately following a video call.
You have to have 100% commitment, solid Internet, and verifiable references so I can check with your professors, or your last job (or an existing employer) and talk to them on the phone. This job is contract, so you are responsible for your own taxes and everything else.
Now, it's your turn. One more thing -- write "I want in writing" as the subject line of the email you send me. Thank you very much and hopefully you and I can put something great together. If you are good I'll have a few quick and free tests to take and then hopefully we can work together.
Hours are very flexible! Work from whereever you are in the USA. I hope to hear from you.

1a) When covering Rey and Finn's escape from Jakku, here starting at 1:56:30 (Part 2), Mauler says this:
But her navigation of the debris with the Falcon is still undeniably ridiculous - and that closes off the scene which is a horrible mess, but it happened fast, so maybe some people don't notice it so much.
It should be mentioned that they move on to the scene in space with Han Solo very soon, and that up to this point the situation of having this incredibly important droid, this man who knows the importance of the Droid and the inner workings of the First Order, and this woman who is an ace pilot as well as the future most powerful Jedi to exist, that nudges Kylo to kill Snoke, and can get Luke out of retirement, all meeting up, is incredibly lucky.
"Magic and coincidences - oh look that, that's just the Millennium Falcon, it's just sitting there! Oh we gotta run into HAN SOLO - ah heeyy, what a coincidence!!"
If not for Rey, both Finn and BB-8 would likely have been captured or killed by now.
The interesting comparison is that in Episode 4, Obi-wan is seeking out a good pilot with the interest of smuggling them - and so they get the attention of just that, and they pay money for that service; thus Han Solo smuggles them out with strong piloting.
Here though - Lady Luke is smilin'.
First of all, Finn plays an essential role by being the one shooting the gun and blowing up the TIE fighters - the second one in that impressive collaborative maneuver that they did at the end;
so saying that "Rey saved Finn and BB-8" isn't really that accurate - Rey and Finn both saved themselves as well as BB-8.
So now to the Ep4 comparison again:
The interesting comparison is that in Episode 4, Obi-wan is seeking out a good pilot with the interest of smuggling them - and so they get the attention of just that, and they pay money for that service; thus Han Solo smuggles them out with strong piloting.
Here though - Lady Luke is smilin'.
The phrasing here doesn't make 100% clear what exactly his point is, but judging by the context as well as the rest of this review, it's that the Ep4 examples makes a lot more sense because Obi-Wan and Luke seek out a professional pilot, instead of... Luke ace-piloting his way out of a hairy situation as the Troopers have caught up to them?
Implying that that would've been nonsensical (to some degree at least) which is why ANH didn't do it since it doesn't engage in such nonsense - while what it does is all based on established consistency & logic?
However this is a highly questionable assertion, to say the least.
Obi-Wan needs to find a transport in the Mos Eisley spaceport because... he doesn't have a spaceship of his own; which necessarily leads to the question, why doesn't he have a space ship?
If he's there waiting for the right moment to get called into action, and possibly recruit / start training Luke, or protect him (which may very well involve escaping with him from the planet, if a certain type of situation were to arise), why doesn't he keep a spaceship or 2 tucked away somewhere so he's prepared for emergency situations like this?
He doesn't even have a speeder apparently? Why?
"I need your help, Luke - she needs your help. I'm getting too old for this sort of thing..."
"I can't get involved... I've got work to do. It's not that I like the Empire, I hate it, but there's nothing I can do about it right now. It's all such a long way from here..."
"That's your uncle talking."
"My uncle... how am I ever gonna explain this?"
"Learn about the Force, Luke."
"Look, I can take you as far as Anchorhead - you can get a transport there to Mos Eisley or wherever you're going."
"You must do what you feel is right, of course."
Mauler's phrase about "Han's strong piloting" kind of almost implies that Obi-Wan couldn't have pulled that off, which also leads to the question - why assume Obi-Wan was a bad pilot (or not at all), and/or what does the film establish about this? Could it indeed somehow be the case that he can't really fly a spaceship?
"No, my father didn't fight in the wars; he was a navigator on a spice freighter."
"That's what your uncle told you. He didn't hold with your father's ideals; thought he should have stayed here - and not gotten involved."
"You fought in the Clone Wars?"
"Yes - I was once a Jedi Knight, the same as your father."
"I wish I'd known him..."
"He was the best star pilot in the galaxy, and a cunning warrior. I understand you've become quite a good pilot yourself!
And he was a good friend...
Which reminds me - I have something here for you. Your father wanted you to have this when you were old enough, but your uncle wouldn't allow it; he feared you might follow old Obi-Wan on some damn fool idealistic crusade like your father did."
So he was a Jedi Knight just like Skywalker Sr.; they went on an idealistic crusade together - fought together in the Clone Wars (or certainly Obi-Wan did - Skywalker just in "wars", but 99% the Clone ones), and he's describing Skywalker as a "cunning warrior" and "the best pilot";
how much room do any of these lines leave for the interpretation that despite being "a Jedi Knight, same as Skywalker", and even a Jedi instructor i.e. to Vader, he was in fact, unlike Skywalker, a lousy warrior and a lousy pilot if a pilot at all?
Especially given how in final act of the film, Luke's emerging Force powers enhance his starfighter abilities?
I think one can safely say here that virtually none - that he may not have been quite as ace as Skywalker, but probably very good and competent at the very least - and the movie simply didn't need to go out of its way to assure everyone that yes, since Obi-Wan shared Skywalker's "Jedi Knight" and "fought in the wars together" attributes, by extension he also shared the "great warrior & pilot" attributes listed in the same paragraph.
So.... all but confirmed as a skilled ex-warrior pilot, and completely inexplicably without a ship or even speeder, how is his need for a pirate pilot with a ship "logically justified", exactly?
Doesn't seem to be justified at all - and if it isn't, then literally the only reason why the movie had him "have to" go to Mos Eisley and pay for a pilot, is because it wanted them to go to a city with colorful aliens, enter a Western salon, and team up with their new pirate pilot co-protagonist in this way;
quite obviously not a case of rational ground-up plot construction.
So if this intention by the movie to team them up with Solo, or specifically do that in this fashion, at this point, is taken out of the picture - what could've happened alternatively?
Luke's got a speeder, Obi-Wan's got a spaceship tucked away either right by his home, or in some kinda secret cave somewhere or who knows (and probably has a speeder as well) - and, to maintain the spirit of their Mos Eisley escape, the Stormtroopers have now followed the trail from Luke's home to Ben's and are closing in on them;
or perhaps Luke catches their attention by going against Ben's advice and speeding to the homestead;
either way now there's a tense action sequence where Obi-Wan and Luke are both chased by the Stormtroopers and have to quickly get away and leave the planet - and both are skilled pilots, as already established.
Would it somehow been out-of-character for this movie if Luke then jumped into some kind of co-pilot or gotten behind a turret or something, and played an essential role in escaping & fighting off the pursuing Troopers - thus showcasing these skills that he's been said to have, and maybe even already an early hint of his inherited Force potential?
And if yes, how so? That's pretty much exactly what proceeds to happen in the middle and final acts of this movie - and by all looks, really the only reason it doesn't already happen right here and now, at the same spot where Rey&Finn are escaping Jakku in this fashion, is because the movie wanted them to go to the spaceport city and meet Han there instead: an arbitrary creative decision.
The only thing that would've been out-of-character for ANH, would be to make this sequence as over-the-top as its TFA counterpart - however it wouldn't have had the technology for that anyway, and besides, the regular gunslinging in TFA is also over-the-top compared to ANH, along with the visual gags during those shoot-outs;
so yes, ANH would've had a more "tone down", no-nonsense version of that, but that's about the only expected difference there:
But her navigation of the debris with the Falcon is still undeniably ridiculous - and that closes off the scene which is a horrible mess, but it happened fast, so maybe some people don't notice it so much.
; not the core concept of Luke (and Obiwan) not taking a backseat to Solo.
At this point a structured breakdown of both Luke's and Rey's initial skillsets and lvl'ing up arcs is in order:
1b)
Rey can fight of 3 (unarmed, in this case) dudes with a staff, struggling somewhat, ending up taking a light punch or something, but basically being quite on top of things there.
She threatens a grumpy asshole of seemingly very limited mobility on an ultra-slow horse with a knife - he has a staff but clearly just uses it to try and throw his weight around, having no apparent ability or willingness to fight.
How much her staff and knife skills extend beyond what was shown here, is unknown and remains unknown.
Never used a gun before somehow??
"You might need this."
"I think I can handle myself."
"I know you do - that's why I'm giving it to you. Take it. You know how to use one of those?"
"Yeah. You pull the trigger."
"A little bit more to it than that - you got a lot to learn. You got a name?"
Has "flown ships before" though:
"That was some flying." "Thanks!" "How did you do that?!" "I don't know!" "No one trained you? No one?!" "I've flown some ships, but I've never left the planet!"
and pulls off a ultra-feat she herself is surprised by.
Then gets told her destiny by Maz, has a mystical experience with the sentient lightsaber;
and shortly later pulls out the gun for the first time, and almost immediately (small hiccup with the "safety", and 1 missed shot a second before the successful one) "sharpshoots" a trooper (after he misses her) - looking startled and amazed immediately afterwards, either at having been immediately able to hit someone at such a long distance, or perhaps at having personally killed somebody for the 1st time? It's unclear.
While she keeps sharpshooting Stormtroopers but also still running from them in visible distress, Han is seen gunslinging like mad, and then Poe is also seen taking down one TIE after another while also hitting individual Troopers on the ground, impressing Finn. (The prominently filmed X-Wing(s) shown picking off the troopers holding them as well as numerous other ground and air targets a slight bit earlier, seemingly aren't strictly speaking confirmed to all be the same one - however it's most likely Poe as well. If not, that just means more over-the-top aces in this Resistance fleet who aren't main characters.)
Then her telepathy / mind control powers are "unlocked" by Kylo.
Then Finn tries to "rise to the occasion" by fighting Kylo, after having seen Rey get knocked unconscious by getting pushed into a tree - lacking the Force (aside from having received a bit of Maz' blessing as well), but evidently having been trained in melee combat incl. with energy blades, just like his earlier stormtrooper adversary.
After his defeat, Rey in turn rises to the occasion, and manages to (intuitively? it happens off-screen while focusing on Kylo trying to do the same) summon the lightsaber and starts putting up a better fight than Finn - only having staff brawling experience in terms of concrete combat practice (and not even against other staff/weapon wielders, at least from what was shown), but now having a serious amount of Force access (which seemingly replaces the need for concrete practice, as has been long established in 4 and 5);
as she's getting pushed against the edge of the chasm, she "taps into the Force" even more, along with getting a new sense of determination and fury, and then proceeds to overpower him.
When Luke
"Sandpeople, or worse... come on - let's go have a look. Come on!"
, he takes a rifle with him, looking quite confident - however it's unknown if he's already shot at moving targets or what not.
Then as he gets overwhelmed by a Tusken raider, and manages to dodge a few of his staff attacks while on the ground and unarmed, before eventually getting knocked out - it's not quite clear how good he would've been in such a brawl had he been prepared; apparently above 0, but beyond that, who knows.
Then he gets approached by the 2 thugs in the cantina, clearly not looking like he's ready to start a fight with them, but also not all that intimidated - even when when the guy grabs him and threatens to kill him. The impression is that he's just determined to not take them very seriously, and doesn't really expect them to attack him if he refuses to give them attention? And then he gets pushed across the room, without putting up any resistance, but also again getting surprised after not really having been prepared (due to some kind of arrogance or naivity) - judging by this moment alone, he may as well have been a complete total zero rookie when it comes to fighting, but just like the Tusken attack it doesn't rule out he can generally do better.
"I understand you've become quite a good pilot yourself!"
"10 thousand?! We could almost buy our own ship for that!" "But who's gonna fly it, kid - you?" "You bet I could - I'm not such a bad pilot myself. We don't have to sit here and listen-"
"It's not impossible - I used to bullseye womp rats in my T-16 back home, they're not much bigger than 2 meters."
While it's not clear whether he's "ever left the planet", he's established in dialogue as already a "quite good" / "not bad" pilot - and later as having performed a feat the difficulty of which isn't really consistently established:
One pilot thinks it's "impossible even for a computer", but he replies that it's "not impossible" - and judging by his tone he doesn't even mean that it's particularly impressive either.
However then Gold Leader fails at it "even with a targeting computer" (one is probably to assume that that skeptical pilot was referring to this, and not an automated computer-guided shot?) - and Luke is then seen also starting to use that targeting computer (did he also when shooting those womp rats?), but eventually turns it off to rely on the Force instead.
So it was impossible even for a computer after all? Is that because they're flying faster? But then if those womprat shots had been at done lower speeds, why did he bring it up in the first place?
"Great shot, kid! That was one in a million!"
So... Han's exaggerating, or was it really a "1 in a million shot" that could've only been nailed supernaturally? Or they could've nailed it after a several more attempts, but the supernatural aid just increased the odds for this last second attempt?
But if this task was difficult enough to likely miss at the 1st or 2nd attempt, shouldn't Luke have thought of that when recounting his story? They'd probably know they'd have limited time up there, right?
Or, if the womprats hadn't been too difficult to hit on the 1st attempt, and the speeds back home were comparable, making it valid for him to bring that up - then why did he need to "let go and trust the Force" when he hadn't needed that back home? Again, had he been using targeting computers to hit those womprats? If yes, him putting away the computer here is a bigger deal - however if not, hadn't he already succeeded at it without the Force or a computer? Why did he need it now - again, just to increase the odds since this was the last ditch attempt against a ticking clock?
Point is, according to these various lines and attempts/methods, it's quite unclear just how impossible or just difficult or even unimpressive the task of hitting that 2 meter target in fact was - not clear how impressive the climactic shot was, and not clear how impressive Luke's skills back home had been either.
So while him snapping at Han like this in the bar may come off as some kind of over-confidence, and Obi-Wan even softly reins him in, it's ultimately unclear at that point whether he really could've pulled that off or not - maybe Obi-Wan thinks he doesn't have the skills yet (but then he probably has those skills himself - or is he doubting them due to his age?), or maybe he thinks he does, and he himself does, but why throw away their chances with this good pilot they've just met and his impressive ship, and take chances by going to look to buy some other ship?
So depending on how cocky and irrational Luke is being during that outburst, he either has "never left the planet" and is only really "good" on a local semi-amateur level, and going into space would be serious uncharted territory for him - or in fact he is as good as he's saying, and could really pull this off.
Shortly after takeoff, he's seen being completely clueless about hyperspace travel - however that doesn't mean they would've been screwed on their own, since Obi-Wan obviously knows about hyperspace travel and he could've handled that part.
However is that the only aspect of piloting that he's ignorant about, or is he severely lagging behind in other departments as well?
Well - after what's revealed about his backstory in that Yavin briefing, if he was already pulling off shots that Han would praise as "1 in a million" (even if hyperbolically) before the movie started, then that certainly raises him up quite highly;
however perhaps he's still lacking in the "evasive maneuvers against Star Destroyers" department?
How much time passes between their jump to hyperspace and this:
"Are you all right? What's wrong?"
"I felt a great disturbance in the Force... - as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror - and were suddenly silenced... I fear something terrible has happened.
You'd better get on with your exercises."
"Well, you can forget your troubles with those Imperial slugs - I told you I'd outrun them."
"Don't everybody thank me at once..."
One has to assume that the "Imperial slugs" he's talking about there are the same Stardestroyers (or, well, "Imperial Cruisers" - they weren't yet called "Star Destroyers" in this 1st movie) that they escaped from on Tatooine - however by "outrunning them" Han clearly can't be referring to just having jumped to hyperspace in front of their noses, since evidently enough time has passed for them to have started playing chess and began training with the lightsaber since that point; and he's only outrun them just now.
"Why don't you outrun 'em? I thought you said this thing was fast!"
"Watch your mouth, kid, or you're gonna find yourself floating home. We'll be safe enough once we make the jump to hyperspace. Besides, I know a few maneuvers.
"Safe enough", well this all adds up - looks like in this movie, unlike ESB, the Imperial ships can chase them through hyperspace/lightspeed; and Han just outran them after what might be a 30min or 1h chase, or who knows how long/short.
This is then further confirmed a few minutes later:
Obi-Wan: "It's an Imperial fighter."
Luke: "It followed us!"
Obi-Wan: "No - it's a short-range fighter."
Han: "There aren't any bases around here, where did it come from."
So "long-range ships" could have followed them through that hyperspace trip? (Despite Han having thought he'd lost them?)
At the end of V, they jump to lightspeed, leaving Vader's ship without any chances of catching or tracking them anymore - Vader walks off the bridge, looking defeated and even too depressed go lash out at Piett;
that wouldn't have worked in the universe of ANH?
So when they "invent the new hyperspace tracking tech" in by TLJ, that's only a "new" ability according to ESB's changed universe - before this continuity shift, a similar thing was already possible in ANH.
TFA-Han's ability to lightspeed-jump through a planetary shield, while inconsistent with how he introduced the mechanics of hyperspace travel to Luke:
"It'll take a few moments to get the coordinates from the navi-computer." "Are you kidding?! At the rate they're gaining??" "Traveling through hyperspace ain't like dustin' crops, boy! Without precise calculations, we'd fly right through a star, or bounce too close to a supernova... and that would end your trip real quick, wouldn't it?"
, doesn't seem to stand out that much anymore...
Also to go off on a short tangent here:
"Did your men deactivate the hyperdrive on the Millennium Falcon?" >"Yes, my Lord."
Last time they placed a "homing beacon" and tracked them to Yavin, but now - despite having screwed with the ship in an analogous situation - they've only "deactivated the hyperdrive";
had they also put a tracking device on it, just in case, they could've tracked them down, attempted to capture them and Luke again, and also found their space base - unless of course the Falcon's crew had the bright idea to think of this possibility, and then (instead of immediately forgetting about it moments later) either change ships or find&deactivate the homing beacon.
(Also if a Star Destroyer had showed up at their space base's doorsteps, or even several, couldn't they have attacked it with X-Wings just like the last time? Motti said they were generally more vulnerable than the Death Star - and even if they don't happen to have an equivalent Achilles' Heel, the RotJ fighters still managed to destroy the Super Stardestroyer.)
Also:
"Lord Vader - our ships have completed their scan of the area and found nothing. If the Millennium Falcon went into lightspeed, it'll be on the other side of the galaxy by now."
"Alert all commands. Calculate every possible destination along their last known trajectory."
"Yes, my Lord. We'll find them."
"Don't fail me again - Admiral."
"Alert all commands. Deploy the fleet."
So now the Falcon did jump to lightspeed - can't they at least have tried the same approach? That Piett even showed such confidence about? Or was that just in case the Falcon hadn't jumped to lightspeed? (It certainly would've been absurd otherwise.)
This one's not too big of an issue if it's interpreted as Vader just being desperate / refusing to give up and Piett trying to be optimistic and not get killed on the spot; what "trajectory" was he even referring to here, given how all the Falcon had been doing this whole time was fly around in curves and circles while trying to evade them? The trajectory they took when flying at the Stardestroyer's window? Or some earlier point? If it was supposed to make sense, then it seems very hard to explain how so.
Aaaand, for a second tangent:
Obi-Wan: "A fighter that size couldn't get this deep into space, on its own?.."
Luke: "He.. must've gotten lost, been part of a convoy or something..."
Other than the issue of Ben repeating almost the same exact thought that Han voiced moments ago, there are other confusing things about this sequence:
Han: "There aren't any bases around here, where did it come from."
By "no bases" does he mean he's not picking up any big stations / hyperspace-able ships on his scanners, or that there are no known ones in this area (as if the Empire doesn't have lots of mobile "bases"? a mobile "convoy" could've been an explanation too, of course) - or that there are no planets/moons around here?
"Look at him, he's heading for that small moon!.."
"Think I can get him before he gets there - he's almost in range."
"That's no moon - it's a space station..."
"It's too big to be a space station..."
Han hadn't picked up the Death Star on his scanners (which, if that's what he was referring to, should've been a lot wider than what the naked eye could see, since the Death Star was still too far away to be even visible at that moment), and no one showed surprise at there being a "moon" not showing up on any of the charts.
While Han and the rest not immediately thinking of the possibility that "that TIE could've been dropped there by a Stardestroyer" (i.e. what Luke suggests about a possible "convoy" moments later) isn't really a problem, Han's line about "no bases around here" followed by them bumping into this giant moon-sized station remains quite inexplicable.
Back from the tangents:

2023.03.21 14:11 QuettleQuornQuendra I depended on Clonazepam for a decade, leading to full blown addiction. I recovered fully using the Ashton Method.

This title reads like clickbait, or a phony testimonial, but I am just a person who's come here over the years to find community as I navigate diagnoses of mental health and neurodivergence. I have been deep in the alcohol use subs lately, but I wanted to pop over here to share my experience with benzo addiction and recovery. In fact, it was my successful taper off benzo's, over the past year, after ~12 years of daily use and a raging addiction, that prompted me to consider that maybe I actually I do have the strength and the tools to address my problematic relationship with alcohol as well. That is journey I have just embarked on just recently but with encouraging early progress. I wouldn't have even begun if it weren't for my experience beating benzo's.
I want to be the rare person who logs returns to a forum/support group to share a success story. We most seek support when we are struggling deeply-- as we should-- but that leaves our collective successes greatly underrepresented, an imbalance which can make recovery feel all but impossible. I'm here to remind you that it isn't. Recovery from benzo's Absolutely. Is. Possible. In fact, with the right tools, you stand a very excellent change of recovery. Truly, I did not believe these words myself even one year ago, but now I want to shout it from the rooftops: You can do this. There are tools to help you. It's called the Ashton Method; It works, and it's easy. There is hope. A lot of hope. I promise.
........
A year ago I thought I was doomed to a life forever in service of clonazepam-- obtaining it, taking it, withdrawing from it-- if not an untimely death. I'd been prescribed clonazepam for anxiety attacks since 2011, with daily use since soon after that. I relied on my own prescribed pills and never took more than I felt sufficiently relieved my anxiety. It worked like a charm-- until it didn't. Rebound symptoms between doses eventually led me to take the occasional extra tablet until I was regularly taking more than my prescription supplied, gradually running out earlier and earlier each month. Withdrawals before my next refill grew worse and landed me in the ER more times than I can count. Once I even went by ambulance, my EKG showing a worrisome heart arrhythmia. My boyfriend started lending me doses lorazepam when I was having a particularly hard time; Before long, I started asking for them, then sneaking them. I resorted to taking shots of tequila when my prescription ran out, leading to a further compounding of problems. I'd been a "responsible" benzo- user for years until suddenly I found myself, to summarize, in a bad, bad place.
I don't remember when or where I first learned about the Ashton Method. I had read that people often used diazepam (valium) to taper off of benzodiazepine drugs; I may have even heard the method's name. I'd considered asking my psychiatrist about a longer-acting medication, but the idea of tapering off benzo's remained antithetical to me, a still more terrifying prospect than the imminent withdrawals awaiting at the bottom of my Rx bottle. My next refill would bring incredible relief, after all. I kept my doctor in the dark, lurking on message boards in shame and terror. The cycle continued in a downward spiral for a long time.
I vividly remember the day things changed. I came across, in the NY Times, the 2020 obituary of the woman whose life's work would later save me. I always enjoyed reading the science sections, especially accounts of the groundbreaking female scientists whose work remained previously under-recognized. British psychopharmacologist Dr. Heather Ashthon was a truly remarkable woman who dedicated her career to helping benzo-dependent patients, but it wasn't an earth-shattering obituary that struck me. For whatever fate or reason, i followed a hyperlink within the article, which linked not to another news story or research foundation, but directly to the primary, foremost published work of Dr. Ashton, "Benzodiazepines: How they Work and How to Withdrawal". This is The Ashton Manual. If you are struggling with benzodiazepines, heck even if you were prescribed a benzo for the first time yesterday, you should read this book. It's also available as a free ebook download on Amazon, and probably countless other places on the internet.
Whats remarkable about The Ashton Method is that it doesn't require willpower. It doesn't require you to confess your deepest flaws to a room full of strangers. It doesn't even require detox/withdrawal or abstinence. I will expand on this below, but first I want to speak to how, for me, reading the manual was life-changing medicine all on its own. By reading the science behind how benzodiazepines work, and the mechanisms driving physical dependence and addiction, I came to realize that my problem was not only a normal consequence of human physiology, but also simply-- not my fault. You might be here because you've made mistakes with these powerful drugs, mistakes which can have severe and debilitating consequences. These mistakes are also not your fault.
The manual is written with such a compassionate yet matter-of-fact tone, I'd never before felt so validated and seen, represented right there in the very data of that publication. Layers of shame fell away. I came to realize the real place where things went wrong: benzo's should never have been prescribed to me as a daily medication in the first place, not for more than a few weeks at a time. By the time I recognized I had an addiction, I was too far in its grasp to make "good" choices. My mistakes were simply choices made by a desperate brain trying its best to survive.
Not only does she envelop you in compassion and hope, The Ashton Manual also is your step by step out of benzo's ever-tightening grip. Its full of statistics showing you how very achievable tapering completely off benzo's actually is (The manual reports an overall success rate over 90%). Reading this book will make you *want* to taper off, not because you are an addict who needs to get clean, but because you'll learn that doing so is remarkably possible, requires no withdrawals, and will bring you immense relief. If you're like me, as soon as you start the proces, you'll begin to feel a lot better right away.
In addition to the Ashton Manual itself, there are many excellent summaries of the basic strategy and its principles across the web. I won't attempt to do so here other than outline the most major points.
Two other points that you wont find in the manual, but come up in unofficial accounts, and definitely match my own experience:
In my case, I tapered down over 8 months until i got to half a 2mg tab of diazepam a day (diazepam doseages are huge by comparison to many benzos like ativan or xanax). An acute anxiety attack, which are less frequent now than anytime in the past 5 years, for me requires about 4mg to fully treat. My doc has me held me at ten 2-mg pills a month, with permission to use this supply however helps me feel best. I now have the control to save those pills for times I know I'll kick myself if I had them, such as an upcoming trip involving plane travel. At the same time, I no longer recoil in horror at the idea of fully abandoning benzos. At some point, perhaps soon I may find I forget to refill the rx at all.
After reading the manual, I "came clean" to my psychiatrist. It was scary, but I knew that change was not only possible but would make me feel a lot better. My doc is an older, curmudgeonly guy, pretty strict and cautious with my adhd stimulant prescription (no early refills, not even the time an airline lost my luggage). So when I admitted I could no longer control my clonazepam use to the point of extreme duress, I was prepared with research papers in hand, to ask about diazepam and the possibility for long slow taper as per the Ashton Manual. It turned out, not only was he familiar with the technique, he was scribbling down a diazepam script before I even had the chance to ask.
So if you're struggling, I can't encourage you enough to read the manual. Get yourself to a psychiatrist who is willing to work with you using the Ashton Method, even if you have to pay out of pocket, you will likely save yourself many times over in (ineffective!) future rehab or emergency room visits. I was in a terrible place and felt *truly* hopeless and helpless. The Ashton method worked exactly as described in the manual. The hardest part was getting up the courage to ask my doctor for help. If I can help you do that or to clarify details of what i've written here, I absolutely welcome direct messages.
I'm just a person on the internet who stumbled across an incredible solution to what once seemed like an impossible problem. I'm messaging the folks over in the alcohol use subs all the time ;) Together we got this.

The Ashton Manual
Dr. Heather Ashton, NY Times obit
*If youre worried about having your benzo prescription yanked away from you entirely, you may wish to inquire about a switch to diazepam an Ashton-style taper while keeping the reasons vague. This is an understandable instinct. Know that experiencing troublesome rebound symptoms between benzo doses, even if you're taking meds at exactly the dosage and intervals prescribed, is a sign that the drug may no longer be serving you well. Rebound symptoms are a perfectly reasonable cause to seek a change in your benzo treatment, whether the problem has progressed to dependence and addiction or not.

2023.03.21 13:53 99101004 230321 State of r/EXO: Feedback Needed, Census Summary, Upcoming Changes to the Sub

Hello to my favourite community!
I just wanted to start off this state of EXO by saying thank you on behalf of all the mods. We are so grateful for those of you who took the time to participate in our census. We are so happy that you are a part of our community and continue to give us good feedback to help us evolve this safe space for you all. We apologize for the delay in getting this written up for you all, but we thought Kai's comeback should be the priority 😊
With that being said, lets jump into it!
❄

Subreddit Changes

As our community has been rebuilding itself over the past few years, we have really focused on providing you with frequently news updates, as well as discussions and places to chat more about the boys. This space was designed as a safe place away from the usual twitter-style world that is filled with unnecessary drama and low effort style posts.
Recently, we have been asked by several subbies to allow low-effort style content directly on to the subreddit - ie. Memes, Fake Sub Videos, random rants & thoughts etc. As we tend to get VERY mixed reactions toward this, we would love to hear your opinion on what should be allowed and what you'd rather not see prior to us making any sort of changes to our subreddit.
If you are someone who is interested in more "low effort" style content, what is it that you wish you could post? If you are someone who is NOT interested in this type of content, are there any rules you suggest?
Please vote below in our poll (all the way at the bottom of this post!!!) or post in the comments regarding:
Would you like to allow low effort style posts on the subreddit? ie. Memes, Fake Sub Videos, Random Thoughts
- Yes, please make a 'Low Effort' Flair
- Yes, please make a 'Low Effort' Flair but limit it to 1 post per person / day
- No, please keep low effort style posts in Casual Convo

This was originally started WAY back before streaming platforms like Spotify or Apple Music were even in existence. It was a great way for us to be able to provide links on where to purchase EXO's music, but after seeing that 96% of you use streaming platforms to listen to EXO's music and 76% of you don't use the discography list, we all agree that this list is no longer necessary. We will be updating the Discography pages over the next little while to link out to the different music platforms you can find EXO's music on.

Since we are extremely short on staff who are available to keep both the subreddit and the masterlist up to date, we will only be updating the video master list once every 6 months. The updates made every 6 months will prioritize adding in NEW content. If we have the time, we will work through the requests to fix old broken links, but this will not be our priority going forward. We highly encourage you to use our reddit search to find video content and alt links that work.
If you are interested in keeping the Video Masterlist alive, we would LOVE IT if you would send us a message. We are trying our best to keep the video masterlist up to date, but there is not enough time in the day for the staff on our team to get their real jobs done, keep the subreddit up to date AND do the masterlist. This will be our last call for help with this.

In an effort over the past few years to bring life back to the subreddit, our mods have taken on creating specialty prompts every week for you to participate in. We have decided that going forward, we will post the Lyrics discussions for new title tracks surrounding comebacks only because that seems to be what our community is most interested in.

❄

Friendly Reminders

We received feedback* on the census that we think is VERY important to discuss. Over the past 8 months or so the mods have noticed a significant increase in reports on posts about Lay's activities and comments stating that Lay is not a member of EXO. We want to be very clear and remind you all that: LAY IS STILL A MEMBER OF EXO. Lay no longer is an SM Employee, but is still a member of the group.
As long as Lay remains a member of exo, he will receive the same treatment that we give ALL active members of the group. This community's foundation is built on celebrating the activities of ALL active exo members equally regardless if they are activities through SM or not. Asking us to post less updates about one active member is extremely unfair and not something we will ever change.
If you are uninterested in seeing updates about a particular member, please feel free to google how to turn on filtering within subreddits so you can personally not see updates regarding that member. Otherwise, we will be making ZERO changes about posting what Lay is up to (or any active member of exo).
*Feedback we received on the census:
I would appreciate seeing less Yixing posts. He's really busy and that's great, but at this point he's so far removed from exo. If there's news about him participating in an exo comeback, great, but I really don't think it's necessary to clutter the subreddit with all of his individual schedules.

We received feedback on the census stating that some subbies felt our community was a bit cliquey, or they were nervous about posting/participating in the community and that they felt our discussions were a bit too forced. We are so sad to hear this!
The mods actually create the weekly/monthly discussions prompts for new subbies! In each of these threads, you will typically find active community members who participate to help people feel comfortable jumping into the discussion and getting to know each other. They are designed to give you ideas of what to chat about, so yes they are a bit forced but that is the intention 😉 We highly encourage anyone feeling nervous to participate to start with any of the mod posted weekly threads!
We truly hope to see new usernames popping up around the community, we absolutely love that. Our whole position as mods is to try to help you feel super comfortable, so if there is something you think would help you feel more comfortable participating, we would absolutely LOVE to hear about it in the comments below or through our mod mail.

2023.03.21 00:23 PrincessPandaReddit Sonic sheet music book series idea

(originally posted on the Sonic News Network Discussion Board; I worked hard writing and revising it; also, nice Riders banner, as it reminds me of my personal Riders skin I have on Wikipedia!)
If we have an official encyclopedia and cookbook, then why not an official sheet music book or two? I looked up and it turns out Mario and The Legend of Zelda have official sheet music books. Sonic has so much great music, and learning musicians could enjoy more with that music rather than boring exercises, classical music, and folk music, so it’s a given.
(I actually thought up an idea for a Sonic sheet music book in 5th grade music class after looking at a sheet music book we were given. I thought of creating it myself with sheet music I found online.
And next, we need a rhythm game…)

Sonic the Hedgehog: Sheet Music Collection

A book collecting sheet music of vocal/piano/guitar arrangements of many Sonic the Hedgehog songs spanning eras from the first game to Sonic Frontiers. Each song has a single piece of sheet music for vocals, piano, and guitar. Because the arrangements are meant to exactly replicate the original, they are intended for those who have practiced enough of a respective instrument.
The cover art could be original and of Sonic singing through a microphone, Shadow playing the piano, and Silver playing the guitar. There could be a subtitle stating "50 Songs from the Video Game Series".
  1. Green Hill Zone - Sonic the Hedgehog
  2. Spring Yard Zone - Sonic the Hedgehog
  3. Bridge Zone - Sonic the Hedgehog (8-bit)
  4. Chemical Plant Zone - Sonic the Hedgehog 2
  5. Casino Night Zone - Sonic the Hedgehog 2
  6. Underground Zone - Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (8-bit)
  7. Sonic Boom - Sonic CD
  8. Palmtree Panic - Present (JP/EU) - Sonic CD
  9. Toxic Caves - Sonic Spinball
  10. Angel Island Zone Act 1 - Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles
  11. Sky Sanctuary Zone - Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles
  12. Sunset Park Zone Act 3 - Sonic Triple Trouble
  13. Green Grove Zone Act 1 - Sonic 3D Blast (Genesis)
  14. Green Grove Zone Act 1 - Sonic 3D Blast (Saturn)
  15. Super Sonic Racing - Sonic R
  16. Can You Feel the Sunshine? - Sonic R
  17. It Doesn’t Matter - Sonic Adventure
  18. Open Your Heart - Sonic Adventure
  19. Live and Learn - Sonic Adventure 2
  20. Escape from the City …for City Escape - Sonic Adventure 2
  21. Chao Garden - Neutral - Sonic Adventure 2
  22. Leaf Forest (Act 1) - Sonic Advance 2
  23. Sonic Heroes - Sonic Heroes
  24. Seaside Hill - Sonic Heroes
  25. A New Day - Sonic Rush
  26. I Am… All of Me - Shadow the Hedgehog
  27. Sonic Speed Riders - Sonic Riders
  28. His World - Sonic the Hedgehog (2006)
  29. Dreams of an Absolution - Sonic the Hedgehog (2006)
  30. Seven Rings in Hand - Sonic and the Secret Rings
  31. A New Venture - Sonic Rush Adventure
  32. Ungravitify - Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity
  33. Endless Possibility - Sonic Unleashed
  34. Windmill Isle Day - Sonic Unleashed
  35. Knight of the Wind - Sonic and the Black Knight
  36. Splash Hill Zone Act 1 - Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode I
  37. Free - Sonic Free Riders
  38. Reach for the Stars - Sonic Colors
  39. Planet Wisp Act 1 - Sonic Colors
  40. Rooftop Run (Classic) - Sonic Generations
  41. Wonder World - Sonic Lost World
  42. Windy Hill - Zone 1 - Sonic Lost World
  43. Beyond the Speed Of… - Sonic Runners
  44. Lights, Camera, Action! (Studiopolis Zone Act 1) - Sonic Mania
  45. Tabloid Jargon (Press Zone Garden Act 1) - Sonic Mania
  46. Fist Bump - Sonic Forces
  47. Sunset Heights - Sonic Forces
  48. Green Light Ride - Team Sonic Racing
  49. I’m Here - Sonic Frontiers
  50. Undefeatable - Sonic Frontiers
(The names of the songs are not polished. You can suggest songs to add or replace; keep in mind I aimed for 50 songs, focused on iconic songs, and kept to generally 2 songs per most major game and 1 song per otherwise.)
Back cover could also simply list the songs and their sources.

Sonic the Hedgehog: Easy Piano Collection

A book collecting sheet music of piano arrangements of the songs collected in the previous entry but simplified for beginner piano players who have already mastered the basics. The sheet music also contains lyrics for those who want to sing along.
The cover art could be also original and of Sonic playing the piano. There could also be a subtitle stating "50 Songs from the Video Game Series".
Back cover could also simply list the songs and their sources.
(I may put probable blurbs for both of them, but I'm bad at writing at them.)

2023.03.20 23:54 biimerge Most durable riding mower blades?

Hi everyone,
I have a cub cadet xt1 50” riding mower.
A few years back my wife and I bought a new house with 2 acres which was pretty rocky.
I have spent the last 3 years clearing rocks to make the yard safer for the kids and my mower. It isn’t perfect yet but most of the big stones are gone or can easily be avoided and the smaller rocks that were rampant after excavating seem to have been significantly reduced after planting grass and clover to keep the top soil from eroding.
At the end of last year I bought new blades because the one I had took a bad beating and were basically nubs that had broken off on the unseen rocks in their path. I put on the new blades and it was magical but I came across one or 2 granite rocks (the size of a tree nut maybe). The blades were immediately ruined.
I want to buy new blades again this season but was hoping to find something that can withstand the occasional rock hit without destroying the blades. I understand they will likely dull if I hit any rocks but breaking off big chunks of metal leaves little to be sharpened.
Any thoughts on a good, solid brand?

2023.03.20 22:35 PartiallyCharged Early Access Sorcerer - Recap and Review

Howdy, folks. Long time Diablo-enjoyer here. I wanted to play just a couple hours of the D4 early access weekend so as not to burn out on the early game pre-release. Instead I became totally captivated by the sorcerer and spent most of Sunday digging through everything she has to offer. So now– hours later–I thought it might be fun to organize my thoughts and share them with you all.
Let’s get a few things out of the way first.
1) I played exclusively on world tier 2. I cannot comment on WT1.
1.5) On Eternal. Didn't touch Hardcore.
2) I dabbled in the other two classes, but I only dug deep on sorcerer. Everything here is strictly in-class. I’m not making any assumptions or assertions about how sorc stacks up to rogue or barb.
3) I didn’t have time to get to absolutely everything. Someone has to clean up this house, you know! (It’s me. I’m the one that has to clean the house. The cats sure aren’t doing it.)
4) Obviously, everything here only applies to what’s available so far. There’s probably a skill I’m going to talk smack about which, with the right legendary aspect, full 50 point build, and perfect paragon board, turns out to be a certified ripper. That’s fine. We’ll get there when we get there. I maintain that it would be cool if stuff was good more or less from the time you can use it, though, and will be operating under that principle.
5) I will express negative opinions toward some aspects of the design in this, but I have deep and abiding respect for the designers of this game. Every game, for that matter. I dabble in design and even the baby card games for babies that I’ve worked on in my spare hours seem overwhelmingly difficult to make at times. People make games. Real people. I don’t ever want to forget that and, if you choose to comment, I ask you not to forget it either.
6) Furthermore, I have deep and abiding respect for you and your opinions. No kappa. I’m not here to yuck your yum or tell you you’re doing something wrong. If you’re having a good time, you’re winning the game and I salute you.
7) What this all adds up to, is that I have spent a lot of time playing, taking notes on, and thinking about this game and in particular this class this weekend. It’s led me to some moderately firm opinions. If you disagree, I think that’s great. I want you to disagree with me. Let’s talk it out. But please be chill and respectful. If something I say about the game angers you, I would ask that you not damage your mental health and mine taking it out here. Thank you, truly.
So, the sorcerer. Pretty nifty, huh?
The tl;dr is that I think the class is very cool, and the game is very cool, and I had a lot of fun.
But.
There are definitely some things that stand out to me as not well balanced. A couple of skills seem to dominate the pack, and a few are outright stinkers. What I’m going to do is go through each skill individually, then fire off a few random thoughts.
And one more time for the back row: I liked this game and I liked this class. All criticism comes from a place of love, and for the desire to be as good for as many people as it possibly can. I wish to see the game elevated, not torn down.
On to the skills!

BASIC

Sad to start on this note, but I think the sorcerer basics are woefully underdeveloped. Spark, Frost Bolt, and Fire Bolt practically feel like the same skill. All three of them are just little baby bolts of energy that don’t look or sound particularly interesting. And mechanically, the impact of their base damage as well as the upgrades are so minimal that most of the time I’d rather just be dodging while my mana recovers.
Arc Lash though? Arc Lash is where it’s at. The numbers are better–as they should be since it’s a close range skill–but they’re much better. Add it to the wide cleave and this is the beginning of a solid basic skill. Also it’s very visually distinct, I love the orchestra conductor animation with the lash whipping back and forth.
I realize it’s probably too late to make such a sweeping change, but the three bolts could actually, literally be the same skill–call it “Elemental Bolt”--and the upgrades could apply different elemental effects, making room for other, more interesting skills basics. (Yes this would break the current skill->improvement->specialization layout followed by all the other skills, I think that’s OK.)
In any case, the other major failing of the basics is that they don’t generate any mana by default. I would really like to feel a bit of a push/pull dynamic between Basic Spell/Big Spell. And right now, they generate no mana, or very meager mana with the right upgrades, in addition to outputting damage that feels insufficient and upgrade effects that feel marginal. I say bump their numbers (generously), and consider adding some base mana regen. Maybe 3-5? Make me feel like I have a reason to weave them into my attack patterns.

CORE

Overall this crop is much better. Thematically distinct, with solid visuals and good game feel. Numerically though, there are some stark disparities. Starting at the top and going counter-clockwise we have…
-Incinerate feels like the worst of the lot. Channeled spells are always tricky to get right; standing still is dangerous and, for me at least, less interesting than bobbing and weaving. I don’t think Incinerate threads the needle. The damage output and mana cost don’t justify the downside of planting my feet. Looks cool as hell though.
-Fireball is… it’s fireball, you know? It’s a classic, and it’s doing what I’d expect it to do here. Pretty middle of the pack in terms of numerical output, quality of life, and visual flair.
-Frozen Orb is functionally a very similar skill. It has more AoE, the utility of chill, and some razzle-dazzle to the animations. But the damage is so much lower than fireball that it feels lacking. I think it needs a damage bump. (But maybe I just look back too fondly upon my days as an Ice Queen in Diablo 2. xD)
-Ice Shards is the core skill I spent the least time with. I tried it in a couple different packages, but couldn’t find the use case. If I’m being honest, it kinda feels like a Basic after a couple of upgrades, not a Core. If you love this one I definitely want to hear from you.
-Chain Lightning, I’m pretty confident, makes the rest of these spells look like chumps. It is good at clear, good at single target, and the mobility it affords is unparalleled. You just fire it and go. Seriously, look at the numbers it does for the cost, and then remember that you press that button once and can’t miss, provided your cursor was on any monster, and you get to duck dive and dodge while it bounces hither and yon, smiting your foes. I don’t think it’s too strong though, I think it feels perfect. Just what I want from a Core. If the others could be brought up to this level. I’d be extremely happy. One complaint though… why doesn’t it look like chain lightning? ;__; Come on, gimme the classic forked lightning, baby! I miss it so much here.
-Charged Bolts: Another Core that probably looks better if it’s put more on par numerically with Chain Lightning. The shotgun spread of random projectiles is another classic, and being able to get bonus effects for dumping them into a single target at point blank range is pretty cool.

DEFENSE

I think these skills are overall in a pretty good place.
-Flame Shield seems almost there. The burn numbers feel a touch low and the cooldown a touch high. It’s not a “true” defensive skill, more of a mixed use skill. And since at least one solid defensive cooldown seems pretty necessary, I’d like to see this one have a bit more muscle as an offensive skill, or a bit more defensive power added in somewhere. Maybe some bonus resistances? But then it starts to infringe on Ice Armor’s design space, so I’m not sure.
-Teleport is a staple for a reason, and this version is great. The upgrades are fine if you want them but they’re far from necessary. A true one point wonder, a classic for a reason. And I love the VFX. 10/10 no notes.
-Ice Armor is a solid defensive option for any build that’s cool (haha get it cool) with standing still and getting punched in the face. I still think that archetype is going to need more support than is currently available–whether through late/postgame stuff we haven’t seen or through some adjustments to skills like Incinerate–but I’m willing to bet this will feature in many such builds.
-Frost Nova is very, very good. Reasonable cooldown, good area. Making it inflict Vulnerable is great, and lengthening the Vulnerable duration against bosses who are immune to Freeze is a smart move. Relevant in all situations.

CONJURATION

I’m just gonna say it up top; Hydra is here, everyone else can go home now. Details follow.
-Hydra is bananapants compared to the other two. The DPS value is good, both against groups and single targets. The damage to mana ratio is obscenely high. The upgrades are great, especially the one that gives a bonus head when healthy. That’s just 33% more damage, straight up, in almost every situation. Honestly this is the one sorcerer skill in the game that could get nerfed and probably still be good, I think.
-Ice Blades makes me so sad. I find it possible that in the late game/postgame, with enough cooldown reduction and ways to make enemies vulnerable, you could do a really cool thing where Ice Blades makes Ice Blades which make Ice Blades… until you have an Icy, Bladed army slicing up the whole map. It’s certainly the first thing I thought when I read the package over. But right now it’s verging on useless. It moves and attacks so slowly, for a pitiful amount of damage. Even if it turns out to be a build-around late game powerhouse, it needs help now.
People are posting about how crucial the Frost Blades Enchantment is to making this work, I can't wait to try it next week.
-Lightning Spear feels like the actually appropriate power level for this group. Hydra clowns on it numerically, but that’s not Lightning Spear’s fault. My one complaint is that visually, it’s insufficiently distinct from Chain Lightning. I’m not 100% sure but I think they’re actually the same projectile! This look is fine for Lightning Spear, so to restate, please make chain lighting look like, you know. A chain of lightning. ___^

MASTERY

This is a flock of strange ducks to me. In essence, Meteor, Firewall, and Ball Lightning feel like Cores in disguise. They’re just nukes. Blizzard set my expectation that these skills would be utility-based supplemental damage dealers. Kinda like how Conjurations are longer-lasting, fire-and-forget, continuous damage dealers. But ¾ feel like Cores; repeatable nukes to spend most of your mana on. In a vacuum this is fine, my only real quibble is that you have to spend points passing through the cluster of Core skills. And in a world where this is true, I would like to see more options for passives to buy in the Core cluster for builds that evolve to use a Mastery instead of a Core as the bread and butter damage button. (Bread and Butter Damage Button is the name of my cottagecore heavy metal band, btw.) Now let’s look at each skill individually.
-Blizzard does what you want Blizzard to do. (The skill that is, not the development studio; I make no claims as to whether or not Blizzard Entertainment is doing what you, personally, want them to do. __). This is the epitome of “nailed it” for this skill group.
-Meteor, man. When I first read the description of Meteor in the Diablo 2 manual I lost my damn mind. Then I cast it, sat there for a minute and said to myself, wait, is that it? Then Diablo 3 gave me the Meteor I’d imagined so many years earlier. Several different kinds in fact! This meteor? It makes the cut. Sorry, that might feel like a tangent, but the A/V, the game feel, the fantasy of Meteor is of particular importance to me. From a usage perspective it seems to fill its own niche, so that’s great, and the numbers seem solid.
-Speaking of Diablo 2, y’all remember Firewall owning the world? Conceptually this skill has never been my favorite. It seems like it should be a defensive or zoning tool, but Diablo enemies have zero sense of self preservation and will happily charge to their death for even the slightest chance to stab you just one time. That’s fine though, I know lots of other people love Firewall as a primary damage dealer. I don’t however feel like the numbers are there. Enemies in this game move pretty fast and I never felt like I found a way to kite enemies effectively for the damage to come out at a reasonable speed, especially for the mana cost.
-Ball Lightning isn’t working for me on any level. It doesn’t move fast enough to reliably hit distant targets; it doesn’t move slowly enough to reliably multi-hit close targets. Also, it’s really infringing on Frozen Orb’s design space. It’s a primary damage dealer in the form of a slow orb that pierces all targets. I actually think this skill would feel a lot better if the basic usage became the immobile version that can proc from one of the legendary aspects. That’s getting close to Firewall’s turf though.

ULTIMATE

Two of these feel like Ultimates to me, one doesn’t. Can you guess which before reading? Try it! Or don’t that’s fine, too.
-Deep Freeze is very, very good. Almost like an upgraded, long-cooldown Frost Nova. Immunity, plus barrier and Chill/Freeze that persist after that, plus (modest) damage in a (huge!!) area. Powerful, versatile skill.
-Inferno also feels appropriate to call an ultimate. Unique VFX with real wow factor, and chunky damage on a long cooldown. Though I do think maybe the vacuum effect should be inherent and that upgrade replaced with something else. It doesn’t feel quite powerful enough without it.
-Unstable Currents leaves me pretty cold. For one, I usually wanna really feel my ultimate when I hit that button. For another, it seems like the lowest impact (and highest variance, thanks to the random spell cast) of the three, but also has the longest cooldown for some reason. I think it’s a really neat idea, But it’s not quite coming together for me, and I don’t know what I would suggest be done with it.

ENCHANTMENTS

There are simply too many of these for me to have spent much time with most of them. But my game sense tells me that, most of the time, Fireball is going to be really hard to beat. Really, really hard. A huge percentage of this game is about clearing packs, and Fireball clears packs. It has limited utility against bosses, but it’s free to switch your Enchantment before a boss fight. At least for now? Maybe in postgame dungeons we’ll be locked in, like a D3 rift? But then again, we’ll get a second slot eventually, so I don’t know. Spending one skill point or getting a point in Fireball from an item right now feels as close to mandatory as anything for Sorcerer.

RANDOM NOTES

Here are a few brain droppings that didn’t fit into the above.
-Why isn’t Stun a searchable keyword in the sorcerer tree?
-Part of the reason I advocated for some inherent mana restoration from Basics is because mana recovery feels a bit too slow. Maybe more than a bit. There are a dozen different knobs that could tune this, from Basics feeling punchier and/or recovering mana, to base mana regen going up, to it being more common on gear, to base spell costs being lowered a touch… You get the idea. I wanna use my cool skills, let me use my cool skills, that’s all I’m sayin’. Probably in the late and postgame this will cease to be an issue, but I’d still like to fire off my main skill a bit more often.
-Please show me the number of points required to reach each tier of skill so I can more effectively pull and replace single points. For example, even after I have two points in Basics, I would like to see on screen somewhere–maybe off to the side, maybe on a tooltip–that it takes a total of two points invested before I can put points in Core skills. (Obviously this is more for stuff way further down the tree, that was just an easy example.)
-We won’t know until later in the game, but is there ever a reason to deliberately mix elements? I’m all for a good Only Lightning, Other Elements Need Not Apply sort of build, but I also like the way D3 had skills and gear that encouraged mixing and matching. Right now it looks like the more you can mono-focus the better, so I’m hoping gear and/or Paragon Boards will open up some builds that combine two or even three damage types.
That’s all I have for now! What do my Sorcerous Comrades think? Satisfied? Underwhelmed? Haha Hydra go brrrr? Counting the minutes until June, but until then, I'd love to hear from you.

2023.03.20 21:46 mrafekaj Why Cassidy is (probably) not the Vengeful spirit ... (theory)

Hello everyone! I'm here again to present on of my theories for feedback. This time it's about the growing discussion that Cassidy is NOT the Vengeful spirit after all!
Lemme know what you think in the comments!

(also, this is a video script, so forgive me if there are in-text notes placed in the following)

But… As much as I love that theory… over the last couple of years, there have been some major problems popping up around it…
Because- it looks like we have been neglecting the possible existence of an even better candidate for the vengeful spirit, Andrew.

In the aforementioned Stitchwraith stories, we are introduced to a kid named Andrew, who’se the vengeful and angry spirit inside of the stitchwraith, and while he’s long been considered to be a simple stand in for cassidy in the books, there are some major details in the books and games that make that are making me question that assumption

Because you see, Andrew is a perfect parallel to the vengeful spirit, unlike almost every other parallel in the books which have at least SOME major differences from the games. In terms of parallels, Andrew arguably is more up there with William and Henry than the other “close parallels” in the books like Hudson in What we found(Micheal Afton) and Jake in the real Jake (The Crying Child)
Because, we know Andrew is killed by William and hidden in a Golden Freddy suit in the books, while Cassidy is only directly referenced in the logbook, and was INFERRED to be in Golden Freddy with the crying child, based on the evidence we mentioned earlier.
Andrew is the one who latches on to William Afton’s soul during the fnaf 6 fire in fazbear frights, yes, THAT fnaf 6 fire, and keeps Afton alive in a perpetual state of nightmares as revenge.
Andrew is also a young BOY with curly black hair, long enough to stick out of Golden freddy’s neck while he is stuffed inside (show fnaf 4 minigame scene with big question mark on it) and not only that, but the vengeful spirit in UCN is referred to with exclusively male pronounce in the game: (show UCN quotes)

And it’s appearance? Well, the Vengeful Spirit is represented by none other than Scott’s SON.

But it doesn’t end there, because in the aforementioned fnaf novel trilogy, which is yet another separate canon from the fazbear frights books, Golden Freddy is NOT cassidy, in that book series, the series, which I mind you, is Cassidy's formal INTRODUCTION to the fnaf franchise, she is just another one of the Missing children's incident kids. Instead, Golden Freddy is possessed by an oddly unrelated young boy named Michael Brooks. In those books, Michael brooks was a sixth kid who was killed separately from the rest in 1985 by Willaim Afton, and his body hidden in Golden Freddy.

And while these books may be an alternate universe take, they still have some major similarities to the games, especially in regards to the characters, with almost all game characters having similar book counterparts, and said counterparts are usually in the books for the sole purpose of telling us new information about the versions of their charecters in the games (show William, Henry and Charlie)
But, what about that part about him being a sixth missing kid? In the games AND most of the book stories, the Missing Children's incident is very clearly stated to only have FIVE victims, but, key word here is on MOST, because in perhaps most famous book story, Into the pit, we get taken back in time to a weird twisted version of the 1985 location, and the story has William show us his accomplishments of that Era: which compose of not five, but SIX dead kids, all on display for us the protagonist to see

But wait, how can we reconcile SIX dead kids with all the other lore sources we know? And, why should we trust a book with a time traveling ballpit in it anyways?

Well, I think I have found the answer to both of those questions, and the answer comes from none other, than matpat

In his second episode of his Ultimate fnaf timeline, Matpat is finally able to piece together exactly what the toy Chica anime cutscenes in UCN were supposed to tell us. Because while it has been generally agreed upon that the cutscenes are about William rather creepily stalking and killing his victims, we.. really didn't learn anything new from it at the time.

But in his theory, Matpat proposes that the Toy Chica anime cutscenes are there to give some more context on why the Vengeful spirit, is so vengeful.

Because for Toy Chica’s last Murder, she… goes a bit off the rails, compared to her previous killings..
(show UCN quote)
So basically, the Toy Chica anime cutscenes in UCN being there to tell us that the vengeful spirit's death was extra gruesome and excessive, with Willaim going too far in his brutality. And while I genuinely believe Mat is correct here, even then, his theory would fit Andrew just as well as Cassidy.

That’s because, like he said, the Vengeful spirit WASN’T killed in Freddy’s! He was kidnapped and killed after school!

The vengeful spirits body was hidden in the Golden Freddy suit AFTERWARDS, but, while he WAS an afton victim he was NOT an MCI kid!
Most people don’t realize, but Into the pit isn’t actually about a time traveling ballpit, it’s about Eleanor tormenting a kid with illusions and showing him the evils of William afton. This is a theme that actually constitutes the bulk of the Fazbear frights stories, with the remnent/dream demon thing Eleanor screwing with peoples reality to torment them while showing them (and us) many of the unknown history of the Fazbear franchise before trying to lead them to a usually gruesome end.
That’s why there are SIX bodies in that story, because Ealanor is showing all the bodies that were HIDDEN in that Pizzaria, NOT just those of the five kids who went MISSING in the Pizzaria, dubbed the Missing childrens incident by the media. Five killed in the backroom, and one killed separately, but hidden in there with the rest anyways…
Eleanor seems to be preoccupied with the truths that aren’t well known, doesn’t she? Most serial killers in real life have a list of confirmed or heavily suspected kills, but most ALSO have a number of deaths that CAN’t be specifically linked back to them, because they don’t always kill in the same way. Except for in the case of neat and concise storytelling, why would William be any different?
And, all this considered, the fact that Cassidy is depicted with four confirmed MCI kids in the novel trilogy, that also gives credence to the theory that she is NOT the vengeful spirit, because if the previous theory is true, the vengeful spirit is NOT one of the official five MCI victims either!

And not only that, but the evidence against Cassidy doesn’t end there:

Because I'n Fnaf SB, we get to play a series of Princess Quest minigames that not only take through much of the old game lore, but directly change the outcome of the game and lead to the Vanny ending. It's been generally agreed upon that that these minigames follow the spirit of Cassidy, as she, now permanently latched onto Willaims soul just like Andrew was latched on to Afton in the books, is revived along with him in Glitchtrap and sets off to destroy him once and for all. And if we beat these minigames... she succeeds, and the now glitchtrap free vanny lays down her mask and helps Gregory out of the pizzaplex.
It all just works too well. Heck, we even got confirmation that we were playing as Cassidy from the game files... Or so we thought, as soon after the filename was discovered... in a notable first for the fnaf franchise, it was actually REMOVED.
But... Why? And why would this be the first time a filename has been changed like that in the series? Was it because it gave away the mystery? Well, the secret had already been out, fnaf has a history of giving hints or even reveals in the filenames just like that.. and on top of THAT, the fact the were playing as Cassidy was ALREADY abundantly obvious in the minigames. Because if the fact that we play as a little Golden Girl fighting Dark bunny creatures with Old man consequences in the background wasn't obvious enough I don't know what is.
Well, despite all the confusion around it, I’m gonna put in my controversial two cents and say that I really think the only plausible reason why this filename would be removed... is if it was WRONG… (”*HEAR ME OUT” disclaimer) Hold on everyone, this explanation is gonna need a LOT of background context, but trust me, it leads into something critical for this whole theory:
Because you gotta remember... Steel Wool is a full, professional game studio with many employees going in and out of the company on a regular basis. It is standard protocol for studios not to share sensitive story information with ALL of their employees, if they did, it would become leak-topia. They usually only share it with the ones that NEED to know it, and even then, fnaf lore is extremely intricate and difficult to understand, and even some of the game's lead producers seemed to be confused with the lore at times (show ray macaffy quote, with emphasis on "the fans will understand").
For all we know, the filename "cassidy" was just added in by a lower rank programmer or graphic designer who was confused about what the minigame meant or just didn't know exactly what he was talking about. And... this kind of thing isn't uncommon in the gaming industry. You know the famous "Project Dread" teaser in Metroid Prime 3? Well, that wasn't sanctioned by Nintendo.. at all. That was added in by a lower level employee who had been reading too many internet rumors about a leaked fifth metroid game called Dread, and while the game was real, the rumors were not, and it was one that the studio he worked at had never even HEARD of before. And that's why nothing about the so-called "teaser" ended up being correct in the end. It was just tiny bit of misinformation added in by a guy who thought he knew what he was talking about, one that even a company as big and draconian as Nintendo was with quality assurance accidentally let slip though the cracks.

So, I think that's exactly what happened with Cassidy here. With the sprite name being retconned out for the simple reason that… it was misleading.. In the first place.

But if this character we play as in Princess Quest isn't Cassidy, then the real question is... who is it??
And that leads us to what I think is.. Almost the smoking gun of my theory:

In Security Breach, in the basement we see this mural of what is obviously Cassidy painted on the wall. This mural shows her in a hospital bed with the same checkered patterns as the fnaf 4 bed, and the fnaf 4 lamp and IV next to her. What's notable about this image, apart from the fact that it has zero connection to the other murals on the walls, is that it has a big red X over the top, along with a big slash across the image.
The image is extremely confusing for a number of reasons, and it’s EXACT meaning has not yet been deciphered, but the premise of the message it’s putting across, is pretty dang clear: "not cassidy…" or “cassidy is not..” but.. the question is: "Cassidy is not" what? Is it saying she is NOT the bite victim? Well, duh, she isn't. Is it that she is NOT the person having the nightmares in fnaf 4? It would seem like it... Except that, not once in the eight years have I been in the community have I even heard someone even INFER that she was the one we play in fnaf 4. If Scott is trying to tell us something about the lore, why would he try to correct us about something nobody ever really thought in the first place? I mean, you might as well tell us that Henry never possessed ballora, because the community would get the same amount of value out of that statement as well (0+0, is still 0)
No, I think the message here is meant to read out more like "Cassidy is not” and then “something related to fnaf 4" or, perhaps more accurately “Cassidy is not related to” and something about the Crying Child, since this is his bed and surroundings. Sure, it could also be “Cassidy is not related to some aspect of Micheal” since the fnaf 4 gameplay is probably about him having nightmares about what he put his brother through, I still think it is about the crying child, since cassidy.. Is in a hospital bed. NOT the regular sleeping bed that Micheal dreams is in the room in the fnaf 4 gameplay.

So, in a nutshell, if all the supposed references to Cassidy in the classic games are vague enough to fit a different spirit,
and if the person we play as in Princess quest, who fights against William and takes advice from Old Man Consequences isn't Cassidy, and last but not least: the message of "not cassidy" in regards to some aspect of fnaf 4 or the Crying child is directly displayed in the game. I think that finally, we have enough evidence to tilt the scales, and to say that the vengeful spirit, isn't Cassidy. And who else could fit the mold for that role anywhere near as good, as Andrew…
But alright alright, I'm sure you all dislike it as much as I do, because IF that theory is true, then, just who the heck IS Cassidy?? Why is she mentioned in the logbook? And.. Just what purpose does she serve in the fnaf story anyways?... And the answer to that.. is we just don't know.. Obviously, she has to be important, right? Not only because of her mention in the novels and the logbook, but because Scott once intended to write an ENTIRE FNAF MOVIE ABOUT HER. Yup, a couple of years back, while discussing old screenplays for the fnaf movie, Scott revealed that the movie was going to be about her at one point, but that he scrapped the idea because it was, quote "too complicated, taking place over may time periods and locations throughout the franchise's history".
But to me, that... only makes things more confusing, as Cassidy's perceived story in the games was.. rather simple. She is a girl who gets killed by William early on, and she only really does anything besides cameos as Golden freddy when William gets burned in UCN.
So, what did Cassidy do in the lore that was too long and complicated to portray in a movie? Was it a movie about Golden Freddy, and the entire fnaf sage from his point of view?
Bit.. if it was... then why didn't Scott say that it was a Golden Freddy movie?
he had no problem saying that other screenplays were about the puppet and the funtimes, so he wasn't afraid of letting people down with his scrapped ideas
And on top of THAT, when this screenplay idea was revealed, the community wasn't even sure if a character named Cassidy was even CANON, much LESS that she was the Vengeful spirit we saw in UCN. So to me... this is only further evidence that we've probably been mistaken about Cassidy's role and character... since the beginning
And.. Honestly, as much as I hated the idea of Cassidy not being the vengeful spirit, I really wanted to leave my theory there. I had all the evidence against Cassidy right in front of me, and.. I had even managed to find some more evidence on my OWN.. But.. there were some major details in the games and books… I just couldn’t reconcile with myself..

-EVIDENCE AGAINST THIS THEORY:

In my second to last theory, I stated that, based on the evidence from the latest books, that I think ALL of Tales from the Pizzaplex is canon to the game canon (which is terrible), and that it seems like at least SOME of Fazbear Frights is too (although “some” is already too much”) However, for now I’m gonna be optimistic until we get out smoking gun for or against that theory and say that the Frights series is probably just loosely related to the game canon. Probably being fictionalized stories based on real events in the fnaf canon, like the fnaf games we see in help wanted that were made by steve, a guy who didn’t even really know much about Freddy Fazbears Pizza. So, maybe the Stichwraith stories are canonically just embellishments of the Golden Freddy story. Maybe Andrew was real, but they turned the crying child into jake and put them both in the crazy contraption that is the stitchwraith just to make the story more interesting.

But then… even if my “solution” for the last problem is true, there is still one more big problem here…

In Fnaf 6 and the ultimate guide, the controversial theory of Molten MCI is all but confirmed. Where the classic animatronics from Fnaf 1 were melted down and their remnant injected into Funtime freddy.
Silly, but not a problem with this theory right? However, the problem is that, the ultimate guide and Candy cadets stories say that FIVE animatronics were melted down into the one that became Funtime Freddy. So, that would leave us Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, Foxy and… Golden Freddy…
And.. we more evidence for this in fnaf 3, where there are FIVE ghosts in the follow me minigame, despite only four animatronics being visibly destroyed. And in UCN, we get this line from Orvil the Elephant:
"He tried to release you, he tried to release us, but I won't let that happen, I will keep you here, I will hold you here, no matter how many times they burn us."
And.. that’s important.. Because that implies that the vengeful spirit is actively burning in the fnaf 6 fire as WELL. And, who else could the spirit be in but inside Molten Freddy?
So, if Cassidy is a MCI kid, and Andrew is the Vengeful spirit inside Golden Freddy.. Then just where the heck is Cassidy in Follow me? Is she just off hanging out in the back with the crying child while all her friends deal with William or something? Wait a second, if there are two souls in Golden Freddy, then why ISN’t The crying child there? I get that he would be sympathetic to his dad, but if so, then why would he just let the other spirits torment his dad? Gosh that incredible set of minigames has been retconned to mush-

Now, as… regretful as I am to say it… there is SOME minor evidence for a “three spirit” golden Freddy, because in the stitchwraith stingers, it is shown that there is yet a THIRD presence inside the stitchwraith with Jake and Andrew. And.. whether this is Willaim Afton fused to Andrew’s soul, or eleanor causing more mischief again… isn’t EXACTLY clear… But regardless.. Any way you look at it, the stitchwraith has THREE spirits inside it… But.. even then, the “Cassidy isn’t affiliated with fnaf 4” message in SB would SEEM to contradict that, but… It’s at least a vague (but awful) possibility..

And honestly… the biggest problem we have here is that, with the way the modern fnaf lore has degraded, we can no longer judge theories on whether or not they make sense, or how well they fit the overall story. You know what? It DOESN’t make any sense for Andrew to be the Vengeful spirit, heck, it doesn’t even make sense for him to be in the game canon at all, he should just be a cassidy parallel just like Jake is a crying child parallel. But yet… We keep getting more evidence that Cassidy isn’t who we thought she was.. And, at current, no one else remotely fits the bill except Andrew. The unfortunate truth is, that ever since Help Wanted came out, we’ve been shown time and time again NOT to expect fnaf’s writing to be good, but rather, for it to really be BAD . And, as awful as making a random book character canon and having such a seemly important and well liked character such as cassidy thrown to the wayside and made pointless is,if one is to read just how poor the writing is in The Tales Books and SB timeline.. This.. just seems like a normal thing that Scott would do at this point…
Back in the early days of fnaf, reason... was one of the few things had to decipher the lore. Back then, with so little and such vague pieces, you kinda just had to do the most reasonable conjecture and run with that. And thankfully, we almost always got it right (show Scott fnaf 4 quote "it seems there was nothing I could hide!). Nowadays, however, the fnaf story has become more and more unglued. Now, we mostly have to throw reason to the side and see just see what absurd explanation from the books we can try and use to fill in each gap. Things have gotten SO crazy, in fact, that over the course of two out of nine games, fnaf went from a series legendary for its lore, to one that is infamous for it
Honestly I’m 40-60 on the whole thing…. Ok, more like 30-70. I think that Cassidy makes complete sense as the Vengeful spirit inside of Golden Freddy… but the ONLY concrete connection she has to ANY of those roles is the fact that she’s seems to be communicating with the crying child in the Logbook. And now that SB is hammering in that we got something majorly wrong about Cassidy and her role means that at least SOMETHING about our interpretation of her has to give..
And on the other hand, Andrew fits the bill of the Vengeful spirit even better than Cassidy does. We know he’s a boy, he has a direct connection to Golden Freddy, is murdered by William, and keeps him alive in a perpetual state of nightmares after the fnaf 6 fire. And unlike Cassidy, where all these things are conjecture, they are indisputable fact with Andrew. Andrew.. Makes for a better Cassidy, then Cassidy. Not only that, but he also would be a sixth kid, which would line up with the number of bodies we see in the 1985 location in into the pit, and he also just aligns far better as a parallel to Micheal Brooks, a sixth kid killed separately by william and stuffed into the Golden Freddy suit in the 1985 location in the Novel trilogy.

And.. worst of all I think… how do we know if any of the previous contradictions to Andrew have any good explanations.. Or they just bad writing? And ditto with the contradictions to Cassidy?
So again, right now I am.. Only a bit more certain about Andrew being the vengeful spirit in the games then I am Cassidy.
Andrew has the most direct evidence.. But makes the least sense. Cassidy Makes the most sense… but has the least direct evidence..
And again, my biggest fear here is that now that sense has been thrown out the window in the modern fnaf timeline, is that “sense” may not be justifiable evidence in any of these theories anymore.

Anyways, this is shycrow, signing off

M106 is mentioned in the context of [gcode_macro print_end] which is part of FrankenVoron printer.cfg. I've tried commenting out this part and deleting it completely, but I just get the same error. If i change the code (M106) to something else the error will not change. so I have no idea where to look for the problem.
here is my printer.cfg file, the M106 is mentioned only one time, I have marked it with two rows with #########. it is almost completely at the bottom
here is how it looks in my configuration now
