Utopia is a text based province building simulator. You will join a group (up to 25) of allies who control their own province and collectively form a Kingdom. You will be put to the test as other kingdoms challenge you for your land and resources! The game is always "on" and updates hourly, with ages lasting around 3 months in "real" time. When an age ends, the game is reset and everyone starts over at the same size.

2023.05.30 23:38 SubstantialBite788 I Woke Up With Someone Else’s Hand
Not all change is bad, but not all change is advantageous either, especially when it involves disfigurations and body part swapping. ‘What doesn’t kill you, only makes you stronger.’ I tend to disagree in certain circumstances. I doubt surviving a train wreck makes you stronger. At this point in my life, I feel as weak as I have ever been. I feel odd and peculiar, a stranger to my own body, a monster to my soul.
Several months ago, as I was lying in bed a wave of red light poured in through my window, accompanied by a hypnotic vibrating purr, that put me in a deep sleep. When I woke up my left hand felt swollen. At first, I thought nothing of it but as I went through my morning routine, things felt different. My grasp wasn’t as strong, but it wasn’t just that, it felt as if I had a different tactile sensation altogether. I finally became conscious of the extent of the difference when I went to brush my teeth.
I grabbed the toothbrush with my right hand and the tube of toothpaste with my left hand. As I tried to line the nozzle to the toothbrush, I noticed that my left hand was slightly bigger than my right hand, and had a darker skin tone. The contrast was striking. I have a very fair skin complexion. My mom always said that I was ‘Irish’ white, that she would lose sight of me walking to the mailbox through a snowstorm.
I dropped the dental toiletries in the sink. I held my hands up in front of my face. I never chewed my nails, but on my left hand, the nails were almost chewed down to the cuticle. I turned my hands over and they were as different as night and day. The left was calloused from hard work and dedicated labor, the other was the pampered hands of a college student. Around the wrist of my new left hand was a bracelet of thick dark stitches, hardly signifying friendship or wealth.
I had to call the police, but when I got my phone, there was a text message:
Don’t go to the police, or we’ll remove your head. No more procedures needed.
I wasn’t too sure what to do at that point. Whoever did this was able to in one night, knock me out, surgically remove my hand and replace with someone else’s hand. If they were able to do that, then I was certain they would be able to get in and do much worse.
Luckily, I was in between semester, no classes to attend, nothing as of yet to explain. Even though it was hot as hell and it was in the middle of Summer, I put on a long sleeve shirt and a pair of gloves. My left glove barely fit, and the phrase ‘If it don’t fit, you must acquit’ popped in my head. I frequented the food truck parked in the convenient store parking lot near my apartment building at least three times a week. They have the best burrito I have ever eaten, bursting with meat and spices, not any of those lean stingy burritos you get at traditional restaurants. But lately, there has been this strange street person hanging out at the corner. He showed up around a month before my ordeal. He was not begging for money but preaching about an invasion. He was always dressed as if it was forty below zero.
Instead of walking along the sidewalk, I decided to climb down the hill from my apartment that led directly to the back of the convenient store. From my deck, I could watch the customers go in and out of the store. The apartment building sat on a high hill overlooking the street below. I could see that the homeless man wasn’t at his usual corner, but I didn’t want to take any chance.
I got down the hill and hopped down from the retaining wall, when all of the sudden he jumped out from behind the dumpster, dressed in a long trench coat, gloves, a ski mask, and a scarf wrapped around his neck.
“They got ya son. They’ve tagged you. I saw the red light. I’ve been tracking them for a while. You ain’t getting away and they ain’t stopping. You need to come with me.”
“Mister, I don’t have any money I can give you.”
“I don’t want your damn money son. I’m here to save your life."
I tried to walk past him, but he blocked my path and pushed me back. As he did so he started unwrapping his scarf and pulling off his ski mask. I resumed my attempt to get to my favorite burrito, but he blocked me again. I was looking down, not paying attention, so I didn’t notice that he was completely unmasked with his trench coat and shirt laying on the ground.
“Look here!”
I looked up to see the most grotesque, confusing human being I had ever perceived. He was a patchwork of different races, different skin tones, and stitched up scars running throughout his body and face like a map of a river and its many tributaries. His nose was completely foreign to his face and both eyes were awkwardly strung together from two different individuals. Worst of all, there was a large scar around his neck, indicating that this head had been removed and reattached.
“They told you that they were done, right?” I nodded my head in agreement. “Well, I’m proof that they are a bunch of damn liars. I hate to tell you this, but your life is over as you know it. You can come with me and stay intact or refuse my help and become what I am today.”
I should have taken his advice, but I wasn’t in a state to comprehend the reality of my situation. I was still unsure of what I had seen this morning. I was trying to convince myself that I had just slept on my hand or had a bad dream and slammed it against the wall. It was just swollen, not someone else’s hand.
“I’m fine man. I just want a burrito. Leave me alone, please.”
“Alright. I’ll still be here when you are ready. There’s a place we like to call the Island of Misfit Toys. You know from Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer. You’ll be safe there. I promise you, its not going away.”
I started to walk away, determined to ignore him, but then he said something that caught my attention.
“I bet you are O negative blood type. All us misfit toys are O negative. Universal donor baby. Now how did I know that? You still want to turn a blind eye.”
He was correct, but I persisted in my stubbornness and walked away. That day the burrito just didn’t taste as well as it normally did. Was there a new cook? I didn’t notice. Or worse, had they already replaced my tongue with someone else’s, whoever they were?
There weren’t any other occurrences for the next month. I made sure to sleep in the living room on the couch with the television on. Still, Mr. Frankenstein stood on the corner, waiting for me. I didn’t visit the food truck that entire month, didn’t have the usual craving and sure as hell didn’t want to have another confrontation.
The next month was my wake-up call. I was dozing off when the television shut off by itself. I heard that familiar hum and saw the red light moving through the front window. I put my fingers in my ears, closed my eyes and stumbled to the bathroom. I started singing to myself, hoping to drown out the noise and stay conscious. I opened my eyes for a second and saw that the red light was moving under the door, and bending upwards towards my face. I shut my eyes again.
The bathroom door slammed open. I closed my eyes tighter, so much so that I saw twinkling stars and sparks. I felt two hands grasp me by the shoulders and lift me up in the air. I opened my eyes. There standing before me was tall hairless grey being in a long black cloak. The creature had no eyes, small narrow nostrils, but a large gaping mouth, affixed open as if the creature was unable to close it. On his shoulder was a smaller green creature with a bulbous head and large eyes. It was not clothed and would ever so often lay its forehead against the side of the larger creature’s neck. It seemed to be a symbiotic relationship.
The larger creature lifted up his three-fingered hand. Out of the palm of his hand radiated a red light. The smaller creature was somehow making the humming noise, and within a few seconds I lost consciousness.
The next morning, I woke up in my bedroom upstairs. I frantically searched my entire body but saw nothing, but I wasn’t convinced by that cursory search, and sure enough, my suspicions were correct. Staring back at me was a somewhat unfamiliar face. My right eye was now green instead of blue, and the skin tone around it was darker. Even my eyebrow was more pointed. Encircling a wide area of the eye was a ring of stitches. I fell to the floor, exasperated by what I had seen, and what I had become. It was time to visit Mr. Frankenstein.
I didn’t try to hide my eye. I can easily explain it away as corrective surgery, the first of its kind, if anyone was so bold, or rude, to ask. I found him at the corner as expected. He didn’t gloat or say ‘I told you so.’ He was sympathetic.
“I’m sorry man. Come on. Let me take you to your new home.”
“There’s no way to fight them… or stop them?”
“Maybe in time, but all we know how to do right now is hide and keep them from tracking us.”
“How do you keep them from tracking us?” I asked.
“You’re not going to like it, but we got to dig a tracking device from in between you lower ribcage.”
I wasn’t too thrilled about that but then again, I’d rather go through a little suffering on the front end to avoid any more experimental alien body part swapping.
We walked down the main highway to a backroad where there was an old, abandoned warehouse. He gave a coded knock to let him know that it was a friend and then turned to me.
“By the way, what’s your name?”
“Robert, but you can call me Rob.”
“I’m Frank, as in Frankenstein.”
I laughed and explained to him that I had already begun calling him Mr. Frankenstein. I felt a little weird admitting that, so I apologized.
“No need to apologize. I like the name. I honestly don’t know my real name. I just picked that one.”
The door opened and there was a hooded man with his face hidden.
“Welcome home Frank. Got a new one huh?”
“Yep, sure do Phil. Let’s make him feel at home.”
We walked through the door into a small homemade foyer. Some drywall had been thrown up and fortified with wooden pallets and barbed wire. There was yet another door. It was a thick steel door with a peephole. Phil gave another coded knock. A woman armed with a gun slung over her shoulders opened the door. Her face was riddled with scars and one of her eyes were bulging. She had the same mismatched facial features that Frank had.
“Welcome to the Isle of Misfit Toys,” announced Frank.
It was a big open space with many cots strewn about all four walls. As we walked around and toured my new home, Frank introduced me to everyone. It was all the same. The scars and parts were different, but the procedure was recognizable. There were even children, little misshapen research subjects imprisoned in a world devoid of holidays and birthday parties, or at least in the normal sense. This world tries to operate as normal, but in the end, its difficult to be normal when you’re hidden and locked away in a warehouse. We’re all victims traumatized by our encounters with ghastly reminders etched on our bodies and faces. Our minds are no less effected. There’s a big handwritten sign hanging over the entrance door. It reads: No Red Lights.

2023.05.30 23:33 autotldr Kosovo: ‘fascist mobs’ guided by Serbia causing violence, says country’s PM
This is the best tl;dr I could make,
original reduced by 73%. (I'm a bot)
Kosovo's prime minister has blamed violence in the north of the country on "Fascist mobs" controlled by the government of neighbouring Serbia, and said he had rejected a US request to relocate recently installed mayors out of their official offices.
The violence came after ethnic Albanian mayors took office in Serb-majority areas of northern Kosovo, after elections in April which Serbs boycotted.
The area's majority Serbs have never accepted Kosovo's 2008 declaration of independence from Serbia, and consider Belgrade their capital more than two decades after the Kosovo Albanian uprising against repressive Serbian rule.
The violence has been widely condemned, but western allies of Kosovo have also sharply criticised the government in Pristina for the decision to install the mayors.
In a sign of how much the recent events have damaged the relationship between Washington and Pristina, the US ambassador to Kosovo, Jeff Hovenier, told the Financial Times on Tuesday that the US will cancel joint military drills with Kosovo and put diplomatic meetings on hold.
A deal signed earlier this year, mediated by the EU, foresaw Kosovo granting rights to Serb municipalities in the north and Belgrade agreeing to Kosovo's accession to international institutions, but the recent violence shows that there is still a long way to go to implement the agreement.

2023.05.30 23:26 dagrick Are there evidence of large-scale stone works in the pre-Columbian Caribbean?
Hello everyone, I am currently investigating an interesting aspect of the history and colonization of the island of Hispaniola, and I'd love to hear your thoughts and opinions on the matter. Specifically, I'm looking at some potential archeological sites that I believe are worth further exploration.
I came across this topic while reading about the native settlements on the island, which were described as populous and developed. Here are two extracts that caught my attention:
“…We arrived at a small mountain range where it seemed the prominence of the main mountain range began, and there the musical accompaniment bid us farewell. Once we climbed to the top, we beheld a populous settlement in delightful countryside, whose boundaries were beyond sight. It must have had eight thousand houses made of wood and thatched roofs. Many cultivated fields, resembling farms, served as walls, creating a labyrinth to hinder entry into the settlement. We would have encountered difficulty had we not been guided by such experienced guides. The city is divided by four streets, which separate it into four neighborhoods, filled with a disorganized multitude...”
“Arriving at Hojeda to the land and village of King Caonabo, known as La Maguana, it would be about 60 or 70 leagues from Isabela.”
“Ojeda arrived at La Maguana, which is sixty leagues from Isabela. The indigenous people were astonished to see the Spaniards mounted on those beasts that their eyes had never seen before. Similarly, the Spaniards were amazed by the numerous population, whose stone structures could rival those of Lisbon, Portugal. The city is situated between the two powerful rivers, Neyba and Mijo.”
Keep in mind that that last sentence is tricky because of the way it is worded, it could either be that there were stonework’s in the city or that if there were stonework’s the city could rival Lisbon, either way the point the writer is trying to convey is that it was a big city.
These accounts got me thinking about the possible locations and routes taken by these explorers, and the potential remnants of these settlements that might still exist today.
Picture: Possible Route Taken by Ojeda to Maguana If we take into account the fact that the expedition might have bordered the central mountains, the trip would have taken about 310 KM or about 70 leagues. In this hypothetical route I choose as the destination the site known as El Corral de los Indios, a large circular ceremonial plaza whose remains are still visible today. It's believed to have been a significant location for the Maguana Chiefdom.
Picture: Excavations of the Plaza in the 1960s Somewhat close to this place there's another interesting formation and the reason for this post actually, in the region of Sabaneta to La jagua, in the province of San juan de la maguana in present-day Dominican Republic. It appears to be a large wall, with more similar structures scattered around the area, as suggested by local stories. Here are some pictures:
Given its appearance and location, I wonder if this might be part of the settlement of Caonabo described in Ojeda's account. There's also some precedence of stone walls built by the Taino's before the Spaniards arrived.
I'm thinking of reaching out to the national museum about this potential site. However, as they are currently underfunded, I want to build a strong case to ensure this site gets the attention it deserves. I'm considering using a drone for aerial photography to gather more evidence.
So, I'm turning to you, the Reddit community, to get your insights and opinions. Are there any other examples of places like this in the Caribbean? Do you think there's something to this, or am I reading too much into it? Do you have any advice or tips on how I can make a stronger case for the museum? I'd appreciate any feedback or suggestions. Thank you!

2023.05.30 23:21 cradleshockr Looking for Proposal advice regarding Inis Mor (and the Wormhole)
My girlfriend and I are currently in Ireland for a two week vacation from Canada. I’ve been planning to propose and got things set up with a private photographer and a private off-road tour to make this moment really special. It took a bit to get the tour locked down, so I’m still figuring out logistics up to the minute.
The photographer and the tour guide have been pretty strongly saying I should do this at The Wormhole and it’s the perfect spot. Not being from the area, I wish I could scout it myself, but I’ve been limited to pictures. However, when I look at the Wormhole, it seems kind of grey and bleak with all the limestone compared to other parts of Inis Mor with more vegetation like the old church and Don Anghusa. I sent some photos of other spots I found, but I’ve been told they’re all logistically not feasible, or they’re going to charge me over a hundred euros more to go there instead (with only a few days to go til the proposal.)
Is the Wormhole as beautiful as they say, or am I being grifted here? We’re in Dingle and Killarney two days before the Aran Islands, so I might just say screw it and propose there without a photographer instead. I just know my girlfriend is absolutely in love with how green Ireland is for sentimental reasons, so if the wormhole isn’t that exciting and I manage to propose at the only place in Ireland that isn’t a beautiful green, I’ll look like an idiot.
Thoughts on the wormhole or other good proposal spots? Would love some insight!

2023.05.30 23:15 meyerjoe83 Beginner Help Where To Start
I've been trying to find videos on Youtube and read some of the beginners guides, but honestly getting overwhelmed since it seems like there is so much you can do in the game.
What I am hoping for is I got a ton of gyms as I have started going through the tutorial and wondering where I should invest in some sync pairs that can go a long ways and are worth investing in. Any general suggestions on what to focus on in the beginning?
Also a lot of the tutorials are years old it seems like, so was wondering if they are mostly still relevant because things haven't changed too much or if there are some general best practices when getting started?

2023.05.30 23:13 Remarkable_You_7293 [Fit Check] First diagnostic bra in ABTF size, Panache Envy 32D
I was going to wait until I could try on all five of the bras I ordered (five different sizes of the Panache Envy) and make one big post, but I just realized how much I've written for only one bra and felt bad, so I think I'll start with just the one. Also, I didn't realize until after I placed my order that bras of different colors in the same style and size can fit differently, so I got the cheapest color of each size. This one is black.
Calculator size: 32DD/E
Measurements, to the nearest eighth of an inch:
Loose Underbust: 32.75"
Snug Underbust: 31.125"
Tight Underbust: 28.375" (I have a disability that causes muscle weakness, so there's a chance I wasn't able to pull the measuring tape as tight as someone else would have been able to, but it was tight enough that I had to let go of the measuring tape in order to inhale.)
Standing Bust: 36"
Leaning Bust: 38.125"
Lying Down Bust: 34.875"
Shape: Centebottom full. I've been told that the difference in my bust measurements means I'm probably projected with soft tissue. I think I'm also conical.
Black Panache Envy 32D fit: When I tried it on upside down and backward, the band was already uncomfortably tight. It wasn't all the way to painful, but definitely much tighter than the band on my current 32A bra. I had to work pretty hard to close it, but maybe that was a combination of the fact that I'm very weak and the fact that Panache bra bands are (according to other posts on this subreddit) very firm? The band stays parallel to the floor all the way around. The gore sits flat and presses on my sternum; I think it's about the right width, but I'm not positive. The straps are too wide-set, but I have narrow shoulders, so that might be unavoidable. In order to get them to feel secure I had to tilt them inward, at which point they dug into my shoulders. I think the wires are right on my inframammary fold. I mostly filled out the cups after scooping and swooping, but there was some slight wrinkling on the inside tops and outside bottoms of the cups. At the same time, the areas directly under my armpits suddenly looked like they had way more fatty tissue than before. The extra tissue extends beyond the wires, but I don't know whether that's a problem with the width or height of the wires or with the size/shape of the cups. The wires are definitely not too tall, though.
That was very long, and I'm sorry. I don't know how to write less and still give all the details listed in the Beginner's Guide. For anyone who actually read the whole thing, 1) Thank you, and 2) Do you have an idea of whether this bra is the wrong size, shape, or both?

2023.05.30 23:06 quantXtnaup Eureka commute is soul crushing.
I commute from the south into the north end of Eureka. Traversing Broadway 2 to 4 time a day has taken its toll on my mental health. It has crushed my soul to where I'm a shell of my former self.
Seriously, I want to reignite the plans to build a Eureka Bypass. There is no reason for a county seat to have as bad of a city layout as Eureka has. Eureka needs to be a forward-thinking city.
I ask ChatGPT for advice, this is the response:
It's understandable to want to improve a commute. Infrastructure changes, like building a freeway bypass, are complex endeavors that involve a number of steps. Below is a general guide on how to get started. However, remember that every situation is unique, so the steps may vary slightly.
- **Research & Proposal:** Begin with a research about the problem. Collect data and information about the commute, such as the time it takes, the number of cars on the road, accident rates, etc. Also, investigate how the construction of a bypass would benefit the community, including aspects like reduced commuting time, potential economic benefits, environmental impact, and more. This research will form the basis of your proposal.
- **Community Support:** Organize a community meeting or start a petition to show that there is public support for the project. Use social media, local newspapers, and community meetings to make the community aware of the project and the benefits it could bring.
- **Local Government:** Present your proposal to your local government. This could include your city council, county commissioners, and transportation department. They can provide valuable advice, and you'll need their support to proceed.
- **State Transportation Agency:** If your local government supports your proposal, the next step is to contact your state's Department of Transportation (Caltrans in California) or another relevant agency. Present your proposal and show them the support you've received from your local community and government.
- **State and Federal Elected Officials:** Reach out to your state and federal elected officials, such as your state representatives, state senator, and U.S. congressperson. If they support your proposal, they can advocate for it at the state and federal level.
- **Funding:** Large infrastructure projects like this one require significant funding. This could come from a variety of sources, such as state and federal government budgets, grants, or public-private partnerships. Having the support of your elected officials can be very helpful in securing funding.
- **Environmental Impact Study & Public Comment:** Most large infrastructure projects require an Environmental Impact Study to assess the potential environmental effects. There's also usually a public comment period where community members can voice their support or opposition to the project.
- **Planning, Design, and Construction:** If all the above steps are successful, the project can move into the planning, design, and construction phases. These phases can take several years to complete.
Remember, this is a long process and may take many years. Stay committed, stay involved, and keep the community informed and involved. You're right that nothing is insurmountable with determination and patience! Good luck!
Anyone reading this that has any pull with the city, county, or state, please let's get this back on the docket.
Thank you.

Talla Lowther
Talla Lowther was born in 178 AC to Robert and Meredyth Redwyne. For years, Talla was the only child between the Redwyne heir and his wife, and so relished in the unending swarming of attention and spoiling. She served, what seemed like, as a lightning rod of everyone’s adoration and focus. Both parents doted on her and spoiled her, and even her grandfather, the stern and proud Lord Bertrand, would make her fall into fits of giggles as he told her tales of what her future will hold for her.
Her first tragedy in life would come early, soon after she turned four, Meredyth had passed away rapidly and without much warning. At such a young age, Talla was rightfully devastated about the loss, but Robert had done well in keeping Talla’s spirits up as well as possible and providing her every luxury and source of happiness money could buy. For the next year and a half, Robert and Talla were as close as a daughter and father could be. Despite losing her mother, Talla’s life and eccentric personality had rebounded rapidly and she had proven herself to be quite the brilliant child. No matter the subject, Talla would be easily able to grasp whatever her maesters and tutors had placed before her, and, much to Bertrand’s delight, had found herself a natural in all mannerisms a “true” lady of court would need to perfect to survive the politics of nobility. Every so often, she’d hear the whispers from those commonfolk around her or her father and grandfather of what quality of man she’d end up giving her hand to.
But for reasons she had constantly failed to understand, the once supportive and loving Robert had begun to slowly and consistently distance himself from his eldest daughter. No longer would Talla enjoy Robert’s company nearly constantly, hours a day would turn into passing promises for another time, to simple remarks together as they came in random contact with each other. Before long, the only time she spoke to her father were awkward moments together when they still shared dinners together. It was during these awkward times she learned of Delena, the woman who would come to be her new step-mother.
Her first half-sibling would be born shortly after, and she’d be forced to bitterly watch as all of the attention and spoiling that she’d come to enjoy focused solely on Robert's new family. As confused and hurt and frustrated as she was, Talla fell in love with her new siblings, all of which came in almost a rapid succession. She was particularly close to Ryam, her eldest half-brother, the new heir to House Redwyne as Bertrand passed away.
Despite her efforts to win back Robert’s affections and love that she’d sorely grown to miss over the years, their relationship dwindled to nothing more than nearly constant bickering and arguments. Talla would spend as much time as possible away from home, worried this next fight would be the one to push Robert to punish her by marrying her off to some low house or disgusting man now that he had other daughters to pawn off for his gain. Though she cherished her time with her half-siblings, Talla tried to find happiness outside of Ryamsport, traveling to and fro between the various towns and settlements of the Arbor. It was in these travels that she would meet the Lowther family, and in particular, Santolhal . The young Santolhal had been pushed into Lordship of his house with the recent death of his father. Talla had seen the Lowthers before, mostly involved with her family’s fleet, but this was the first time she truly spent time around them outside of family business.
By 202 AC, Talla quickly found herself infatuated with Santolhal. Strong, handsome, and caring, Santolhal had won over her heart nearly instantly, and Talla no longer cared to travel anywhere without Santolhal at her side. In 203 AC, Talla risked bringing Santolhal with her back to Ryamsport with her to ask her father to take the Lowther’s hand in marriage. She expected an argument with Robert, with the winter ravaging the Arbor no doubt giving an extra massive burden to Robert’s worries, but Talla did not expect the gravity in which he would push back against her betrothal with Santolhal.
Hidden behind closed doors, the two of them screamed and cursed each other in arguments that spanned days, and by the time she’d left Ryamsport, Talla and Robert’s relationship would be permanently and irreparably destroyed. Talla would find herself no longer welcome within Ryamsport and separated from her half-siblings she loved so dearly, but it was worth the pain, in her mind, as she traveled back to Lowton with Santolhal and a promised marriage.
Talla was now Lady Lowther of Lowton and for the first time in over a decade she felt happy. Barely two months into her marriage and new life, a letter bearing a tragedy would arrive in Lowton. Robert Redwyne had succumbed to the winter that had been decimating the Arbor much more harshly than ever before. The man she’d loved with all of her heart, and then hated for reasons she could never explain, was dead. She would never get the closure and reconciliation that she did not realize she needed so badly. Robert’s death crippled Talla much harder than she’d come to expect, and she was near inconsolable by anyone for some months after until Ryam himself rode out to Lowton in the swarming snow to personally welcome her back into the family she missed so dearly.
From then on, Talla’s life would come to stabilize itself again. In 204 AC, her first son, Sarrolhal, was born, and with Santolhal at her side as always, the three would enjoy frequent trips between Lowton and Ryamsport.
Santolhal Lowther
Santolhal Lowther was born in 185 AC to Zalhal and Floris Lowther. House Lowther’s situation could be considered unique among Westerosi, as Zalhal was born and raised in the Summer Islands before meeting Floris, the last living member of the Lowther family, and settling down on the Arbor. Zalhal worked as a contracted privateer who helped hunt Stepstone pirates alongside Westerosi kingdoms from time to time before marrying Floris and taking the Lowther name as his own.
For such an action, the Lowthers, already a small family that had suffered greatly over the years and slowly dwindled to near extinction, faced public disdain and scrutiny for some time. As the years passed and Zalhal proved himself capable of accepting the Seven and the Andal way of life, Santolhal and his siblings only faced minimal discrimination from only the most hard headed of people.
Zalhal was an elderly man by the time Santolhal was born and treated his children more as soldiers to train than children to love. Besides any affection they would receive from Floris, Santolhal and his siblings would have an incredibly strict and controlling father until his death in 199 AC. Zalhal would often serve in the Redwyne navy, with Santolhal behind him from the time his son could handle the waves. Santolhal felt peacefully at home on the ships his father brought him upon, and would rarely be allowed to be spared from taking part in any job the crewmen had to do. Though he hated his father for it at the time, he’d come to realize the harsh treatment is what helped him become the renowned sailor he is today.
Floris passed away when he was young, and his father would follow suit a decade later, leaving the young fourteen year old boy the new Lord of Lowton. Santolhal shirked from his new lordly duties, leaving the matters of the state to the councilmen and women his parents left behind. He’d much rather spend his days out on the sea instead of remaining cooped within stuffy keeps and manors, a mindset he holds close even now.
In 202 AC, he met Talla Redwyne in his home city and the two would click together instantly. Talla was the source of affection and love that he’d been lacking since a baby, while he gave her the validation she craved. Despite the winter, the two went to Ryamsport for Talla to speak to her father, but more importantly for Santolhal, to meet her half-siblings. Seeing the way Talla interacted with them contrasted dramatically with the way his family was, for as much as they loved each other, himself, his brother, and his sister struggled showing affection towards each other.
After the disastrous meeting in Ryamsport, Talla and Santolhal married, and a year later his son was born. That same year, however, Santolhal fell from rigging high atop a mast during a storm, having refused to order those beneath him to do a task he himself would not do. Though he was rushed back to Lowton, the maester could not fully fix his wound and he would forever be stuck with a painful limp in his right leg.

2023.05.30 22:59 Extra_Willow_8907 Beefalo Domestication Guide! (Read Description)
| I’ve seen quite a bit of confusion / misunderstanding when it comes to Domesticating a Beefalo, and though there are videos out there that do a decent job, I wanted to outline it in text format, in hopes that it might help people understand the process behind it! (This guide is specifically for DST, I’m unaware of the differences in other game formats) First of all, I wanted to state that it’s actually quite simple / easy to domesticate a beefalo, but it can be difficult to understand what is happening, especially considering there are next to no in-game indicators that assist the player. All this being said, there are so many advantages to domesticating a beefalo early-on: - Movement speed: never underestimate the power of moving fast in this game. Time is everything in DST.
- Damage absorption: a beefalo has 1000 health, and ALL damage (other than ranged sources such as Bishops & MacTusks) is absorbed by the beefalo while on its back
- Up to 50 damage per attack, if raised to be an ornery beefalo (will go into this later)
Now to get into HOW it’s done! First of all, pair your beefalo with a beefalo bell. If the bell is in your inventory, the beefalo will follow you anywhere. There are 4 things (other than health) that you need to account for while domesticating a beefalo: • Hunger • Obedience • Domestication • Tendency At the end of the day, what you’re trying to do is get the beefalo’s domestication to 100%. There are 2 ways to get a beefalo’s domestication to rise, instead of fall: • If you’re riding the beefalo, the domestication level is rising • If the beefalo’s hunger is currently above 0, the domestication level is rising The prerequisite to being able to ride your beefalo, however, is that it’s Obedience level is above 50%. Above 50%, and you may place a saddle on the beefalo. Any/all food items that you give your beefalo, will raise the beefalo’s Obedience by 10%. Obedience will decay overtime at a relatively slow, but steady rate. It’s also important to note that if your beefalo’s obedience drops below 40%, then it becomes likely that it will shake off its saddle. This deals 20% damage to the saddle (5 times and the saddle will break, forcing you to craft another). This all boils down to: Feeding your beefalo 6-10 grass or twigs before riding it will ensure that its obedience level is above 50%. While riding it, you are making progress toward domesticating it. If you are NOT planning on riding your beefalo for a period of time, fill its hunger bar just enough so that it stays above 0 as long as you plan to be off-saddle. Steamed twigs are extremely efficient at filling a good portion of a beefalo’s hunger (4 twigs in a crockpot). Most other food, though potentially providing a lot of hunger, is arguably much-less inefficient at doing the same thing, and unnecessary waste of food when you can use twigs and achieve the same result. It’s important to mention that full-stomach + riding don’t stack in terms of domestication rate. I find that a single steamed twigs allows you all the time you’ll need off your beefalo’s back until you’re riding again. The other thing you must track, is Tendency: - Ornery: Does the most damage (50), has a movement speed of 7, but requires you to feed it one food item each time before riding it
- Rider: Has a movement speed of 8, but a damage of only 25. Does not require food ever again.
- Default: Does 34 damage, has a movement speed of 7. Does not require food ever again.
- Pudgy: Has a movement speed of 6.5, does the least damage (20), but provides a small positive sanity aura while riding
There are arguments to be made for each tendency, however pudgy Beefalo are objectively much more difficult to acquire, with the worst speed AND damage. They’re cute, but not recommended. Rider can be acquired by, you guessed it, primarily riding your beefalo. This is the easiest tendency to get, and is the fastest. Great for characters who excel at combat already such as Wolfgang or Wanda! Ornery can be acquired by fighting often atop your beefalo. There are ways to quickly ensure this outcome, such as attacking a Slurtle a couple hundred times. This is widely considered the best option for characters who don’t deal bonus damage, or benefit from the extra safety, such as Wendy, Wes or Maxwell. The last detail I’ll mention, is that the higher your beefalo’s domestication, the longer you’ll be able to ride it, ranging from about 13 seconds, to about 13 minutes once fully domesticated. That about sums it up! I highly recommend the Beefalo Status Bar mod, as it allows you to track all of these statistics much more easily: I hope this helps someone! Happy riding! submitted by Extra_Willow_8907 to dontstarve [link] [comments] |
2023.05.30 22:55 Arcetos New in depth Asura guide. Two builds, Yellow frantic Hold&Cancel and Blue extended Flamefetter
| I did a couple asura short guides, but this will be the last (at least for a looong time), and more extensive one. https://preview.redd.it/lvtw88fuk23b1.png?width=1079&format=png&auto=webp&s=7d04d76bc6d43f4df81adf9f1a505b702c6ccddd I will try to cover close to everything related to Asura, and go over two builds, one that has frantic and stressful (but fun) gameplay, and another one for those who just want a more "chill" way of playing. Note that yellow is about 20 to 30% more performant than blue. THE BASICS Before we begin, a quick run about some important concepts. - Skill cancel: Dodging at the right time, makes it so skills and attacks are still effective, while cutting short the animation. This is not only true for Asura, but for her is specially effective. For her 3rd skill, it can be cut almost instantly, 2nd skill as well, and 1st skill as soon as you see the arms appear you can dodge. For the hold attack, as soon as or she makes contact with the ground it can also be canceled. For the skills look at when flamefetter state starts, and you can cancel immediately. https://reddit.com/link/13w1ugi/video/g1sthvyxk23b1/player Another tip, is to always dodge laterally, never back as dodging away from the enemy takes more time. When playing just aim to do 2 holds, once you get comfortable aim for 3 - Flamefetter state: It's activated upon the use of any skill. For default lasts for 4 seconds and meanwhile it provides extra 20% fire damage. Asura's whole kit and gameplay should revolve around this. Since Flamefetter is a long name, I'll just say FF from now on. - Do bursts of damage when FF is up if possible: hold attacks, skills and ultimate (yours). - Functor key: For Asura it's quite important to get if if you plan on playin her long-term. It changes the gameplay style and adds a ton of damage. - When in groups or multiple bosses, use the "target" button to focus on one objective, this way the hold attack fire resistance shred's value will be more consistent. SIGILS, TEAM AND BOTS SIGILS: https://preview.redd.it/bbvtc9l3l23b1.png?width=691&format=png&auto=webp&s=2c32ed71de668f2e1aedab9cf0d568614ba0e915 Use the recommended ones, that provide fire damage and energy regeneration. Prometeus flame and Jörmingandr For the enchant effects, focus on "Fire blessing -> Fire damage %, and "Gladiator" -> Normal atk damage % (because hold attacks count as normal). Other effects like crit rate is quite good, and others like -energy cost, index mod multiplier, damage against XYZ enemies are fine too. But focus on the two mentiones plus/or crit (low priority). This are my enchantments. Are WAY away from being perfect (on the way on being so one day). You can see the mentioned effects tho: https://reddit.com/link/13w1ugi/video/qkvrzlh6l23b1/player TEAM: We don't have units that synergize too well with Asura right now, or more specifically good established fire teams. When asked vets on discord, I've been answered, and seen replied to other players that using S Poseidon and Tsukuyomi is the way to go, just for the raw dps (and poseidon's CC). https://preview.redd.it/kllgv0jdl23b1.png?width=1077&format=png&auto=webp&s=5fce55eeace942bdef857a4f3f36e80f1d1f6131 BOTS: The most recommended bot is Me-Yow, providing extra energy when doing perfect dodges. Works well with both builds, but specially recommended for the yellow build. https://preview.redd.it/6itxcaall23b1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=ab9f380e18f100f15e5ff8b5c74053495ba3f52e When playing with the blue build, depending how you go about it, energy may overflow (be capped). Then other bots like Mitir, to extend modified mode for 3 seconds or Minininja to increase teammates crit rate are also good options. https://preview.redd.it/uwx8bjfnl23b1.png?width=1304&format=png&auto=webp&s=48c19b389deca830c6cc5a812b2b22f13dad022a As for the chips, do whatever you feel more comfortable with tbh. I'm using "Tactical Assembly" to have my companions near to focus better targets and make better use of team's CC. And "Countermeasure" to extend poseidon's freeze for 1 sec. Comfortable ones. "Battlefield Dominance" and "Marginal Benefit" are also very good if you prefer raw dps rather than usability. YELLOW HOLD SPAM BUILD https://reddit.com/link/13w1ugi/video/ira3ohjhn23b1/player The objective of the build: - Abuse hold attack as much as possible
- Abuse skill cancels for skills and attacks
- Don't use hold attack if FF is not activated
How does the build work? - With the third yellow code, when doing a hold attack, half of remaining energy is consumed to do more damage.
- With jörmungandr sigils, each time energy is used, tere is a chance at recovering 35% of energy.
- With functor key, first hold after entering FF restores 12 energy and deals extra dmg. Each hold attack in FF reduces enemy fire resistance.
Tips: - Practise a bit the skill cancels. At first go for 2 holds per FF, after some time go for 3.
- If when playing, if you try to do a 3rd hold, and you're seeing that it won't connect the hit inside FF, dodge cancel, to save up energy.
The gameplay for this build, if played this way is super effective, but also super frantic. If you don't want to bother about constant holds and constant animation cancels, go for the blue build. Shoutout to XLyrcX for explaining to me the hold attack-dodge cancel. BLUE EXTENDED FLAMEFETTER https://reddit.com/link/13w1ugi/video/00q6zavoo23b1/player Objective of the build: - Overlap all the skills possible
- Use 3 skills at once, extend three times, rinse and repeat.
- Bursts and ultimate after casting 3 skills.
How does the build work? - With the blue codes, we get 45% extra fire damage during FF instead of 20%.
- The duration of FF is extended by 4 seconds, based on remaining time (so if there were 2 seconds of FF left, the new one will last 6 seconds).
- The extra fire damage bonus will stack, based on each skill duration (so hypotetically, if all 3 skills were casted simultaneously, the FF would provide 135% extra fire damage lasting 12 seconds).
Tips: - Hold & Spam as in the yellow build is still the most effective way to go BUT not for a wide margin. From my testing, playing "normally" vs Hold&Spam is about 16% less effective (making more use of functor's "punch to accumulate hold damage"). So you can play more "normally" and calmly with this build and still perform well.
- For the three skills cooldowns to be consistent, do all 3 at the same time with cancels, preferably starting with skill 1. Then extend two times with skills 1 & 3 & 1, and after that all three skills will be off cooldown to be cast at the same time again.
- At the beginnig of the match, wait a bit to gather energy before using the skills.
--------------------------------------------- If you think this was helpful, please comment about it! If there is anything to add/fix/change about Asura and this guide, please do say so and I'll edit it and u/you! I hope you have a blast playing Aether Gazer, but you'll for sure have it if playing Asura! Enjoy! :D submitted by Arcetos to AetherGazer [link] [comments] |

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti Mobile
RAM: 32 GB
Storage: 1 TB SSD
Display: 4K Touch Screen
OS: Linux Mint - but you should be able to activate Windows with the OEM product key
I'm looking to sell my Dell laptop. It does not have any extreme physical defects or blemishes, but it does show signs of handling and use.
The trackpad has a "stiff" left click and requires a little extra pressure. This might be an easy fix, but I haven't tried to tackle it because I just use a wireless mouse. It's still 100% usable, so long as the tactile difference between the left and right click doesn't bother you too much.
This laptop has some fairly nice hardware but it may take some tweaking to do what you want, as there are some pretty severe thermal throttling issues out of the box. I've repasted the CPU (Dell did a terrible job with that) but you would still want to manage the voltage. There are some tweaking guides out there for this model. Do not expect long battery life.
What I do like about this laptop is the fantastic display, with good touchscreen functionality and fantastic colors (in my opinion). It can boot and run Davinci Resolve with the Nvidia GPU, so the laptop can function as a mobile editing machine. It can deliver some impressive results if it doesn't get too hot. I mainly used this laptop for its mobile GPU, but I no longer need that kind of power. Asking $475 flat to start, OPEN TO OFFERS!

2023.05.30 22:51 GyreStream Best Promotion Strategy: Increasing Views
| 😎 It's time to test a new strategy for launching looped streams called "View Boosting". What is it all about? 👉 If your channel primarily features serialized content or videos with a long duration, such as reviews, vlogs, and interviews, this option will be optimal for you. 🗝 The key is to release a new video as a looped stream. Once the video concludes, you stop the live broadcast and save it as a regular video on your channel. 🙌 Adopting this approach enables your videos to reach the largest possible audience in the first few hours. Since a stream gains views much faster than a regular video, it boosts your content significantly. Why not give it a try with Gyre? gyre #gyre_guide #livestreaming submitted by GyreStream to u/GyreStream [link] [comments] |
2023.05.30 22:45 Ambitious-Concert-69 COMPLICATED - "the user profile service service failed the sign-in. user profile cannot be loaded reddit". E and C drives appear to be swapped - tried everything on Google.
So I have the error in the title whenever I try to log in to my only admin account, as per internet advice I bought a USB and made a windows 10 bootable flash. I boot from the flash and use shift+F10 to open the command prompt and use these commands to convert the ease of access button into an elevated CMD prompt button:
copy d:\windows\system32\Utilman.exe d:\ copy /y d:\windows\system32\cmd.exe d:\windows\system32\Utilman.exe
Boot back into Windows 10 and it works as expected - the command prompt opens and I type the following command to enable the admin account:
net user administrator /active:yes
This says command executed successfully, I restart my PC and yet nothing has changed. I go to use ease of access to open the CMD prompt once more and it now does nothing at all. I boot from the USB again and go back into the command prompt and attempt to make the changes on here rather than using the CMD prompt on my Windows install. I follow a guide on how to fix it using regedit - restart and boot into my main install, again nothing has changed. I again boot back into the USB, use regedit again and find that none of my changes have stayed - everything has reverted as though I never did anything.
Now the weird part is that out of interest I noticed the CMD prompt in the bootable flash opens in drive X. I have two hard drives installed, C and E. I'm sure C was my SSD holding my windows install and E was my HDD for large files, but when I type c: in the command prompt, it takes me to my HDD files, and when I type d: it takes me to what looks like the top layer of my SSD (has Windows/System32). e: takes me to my bootable flash USB drive files. x: takes me back to the default drive from when I open command promp on the USB. So it looks like my disks have changed letter? Could this be causing my issue? I know it is long winded so please leave a comment if you need any further info and please help if you can!

2023.05.30 22:44 cmnonamee Pace for first marathon - how hard to push?
I'm at a bit of a loss for what pace to run in my first marathon, which is about 10 days out.*
I've been following the marathon training handbook guide for a sub 4-hr marathon. For the first few weeks, I didn't know enough about different types of runs and was basically pushing myself to a 7 out of 10 on my training and long runs and a 10 out of 10 for intervals once a week. I was typically running at about a 7:30 pace, but trying to do each run faster than the last. No surprise, my body quickly taught me I was overtraining by reintroducing some niggling where I've previously had injuries. So I did some more reading (shout-out to this subreddit!), got some recovery, and course corrected going forward.
Week 6 of my training (early) I ran a half marathon in 1:37:40 with a good bit left in the tank, as I kept the first half of it at an easy pace and then stepped it up because I felt great. I haven't tried anything that pace at distance since, for fear of reaggravating some old injuries like I had when I noticed I was overtraining.
A while later, I did a 10x round of Yasso 800s (realize that's a totally imperfect predictor) that would project me at a 3hr 18min pace.
But here's the thing. When I run now - even when I do half mile strides at what used to be my cruising pace of 7:45 - I feel like I'm using way more energy. I know I have to be in much better cardio shape now with 3+ months of deliberate training and way more miles than I'm used to, but it sure doesn't feel like it.
My last long run (21 miles) before my taper I did at an average 8:20 pace. I simulated my plan for my race, to start below my cruise pace and increase over the first few miles to warm up and then do fartleks, strides, etc to shave time but overall moderate tempo so I wasn't pushing too hard at any point. I was tired, but felt good after. Not like I could go another 5 miles. But also not like I couldn't go on.
So I guess the question is: how much can I expect having fresh legs to help me here??? And how hard/when should I push?
This is my first marathon, so my main goal is just to finish the damn thing. Under 4 has always been the benchmark, but I'd love to be able to get under 3:45 (or better!).
Thanks to everyone who reads this. And thanks to everyone who has asked/answered questions along the way that has helped me without knowing. You all rock!
*I'll be running solo on a treadmill. I've done all of my long training runs on a treadmill, so think I'll be all right. I know it sounds crazy to most, but I love being able to just zone out and basically meditate without focusing on anything.

2023.05.30 22:34 ChaoGardenChaos Good time to join the war?
I got the game a little while back. I found myself confused and overwhelmed and put it down and never picked it back up. Well long story short the game has piqued my interest as of late and from what ive seen in this thread it looks like a new war just started. What follows are my main questions regarding getting started and enjoying the experience.
- Would you recommend logistics to a new player or should I start with infantry
- What are some things you wish you would have known differently starting new. (I have watched some basic starting out guides so I'm looking for more intermediate to advanced tips.
- I have trouble interacting with other players at times. My main concerns are being a new guy and frustrating others or ruining their game experience. Is the community in the game welcoming or more hardcore?
- Finally, which side of the war should I join. Feel free to make this pure opinion.
Thanks, I look forward to joining you guys.
