2023.05.30 22:23 SalernoXbox Honest Review of Fender Professional II Stratocaster - It plays better than my LP Standard which costs more than double the price

Honest Review of Fender Professional II Stratocaster - It plays better than my LP Standard which costs more than double the price
Fender really nailed it with this guitar, there isn't really anything to say aside from the price tag but then again, I genuinely believe that this is the best Stratocaster for what you get for the money. The Performer series would be a close second. I tried a few ultras in the store and the neck was super fast, but I personally preferred the deep c neck as it felt more like the original standard I know and love. The deep c is not "deep" at all, in fact it's more slim than the modern d on my les paul standard. It has nice fullness on the edges that gives the hand something to grip, playing chords is much more comfortable on the deep c I found than the slimmer necks. I'll break the strat down into all the categories I can try to list at the top of my head:
Neck - 10/10 : I may be a little bit biased but I think the deep c neck is the best neck that Fender has ever come out with. Between this and my standard, this neck just feels so much more pleasant and comfortable to hold. It speaks for itself. The rosewood is extremely smooth and easy to noodle around on. Mine came with this funky 2-tone grain on the wood that tripped me out a little at first but I learned to embrace it. The back of the neck has this super satin smooth finish and it is definitely super smooth, it's an extremely smooth playing guitar.
Frets - 9.5/10 : I'm not giving it a 10 because I think Fender should be putting stainless steel frets on these instruments considering the price tag and especially compared to other brands that use them. But I think the Narrow Tall frets with the rolled edges are incredible. It's quite funny hearing people say "I'm going for the performer for the medium jumbo" or "Narrow tall is horrible" , I'm not sure how many people know this, but literally almost all of Fender's Custom Shop Strat's and a lot of the Telecasters, have Narrow Tall frets. $4000-$10,000 guitars and up, and almost every single one I looked at had Narrow Tall frets in the specs. There is obviously a reason why this is a thing, and I'm also sure nobody who gets a custom shop fender is going to be concerned over medium jumbo or narrow tall frets. I have no idea what the difference is between Narrow-Tall and Medium Jumbo if you put 2 in front of me, my Les Paul is Medium Jumbo and my Strat is Narrow Tall and never have I picked up one instrument over the other and went "oh, these frets feel different."
Tone - 9/10 : I love the tone that comes out of these V-Mod 2 pickups, it has a very modern stratty sound to it, perfect for modern covers, jazz, some country, a little bit of John Mayer, I do think that some hotter more vintage pickups would have been really cool especially when you consider the implementation of the Narrow-Tall frets to try to give you that Custom Shop vibe. The push-push knobs are cool and there's a few positions I really like that almost sound like an acoustic guitar.
Finishes - 10/10 : I think the Pro II line by far had the nicest paint finishes. Miami blue, Surf green, Dark Knight, Mercury Silver, Olympic white, even the roasted pine. The ultra line is great too, I think the Miami blue is more vibrant than the cobra blue, the finishes on the ultra just didn't catch my eye the way I hoped they would. The Texas Tea was in my opinion the nicest finish on the ultras. My 2 favorite finishes in the Pro II line are definitely the Mystic Green and Dark Knight. Reason being because it has the exact same sparkly paint as the ultras that reflect and shine in different lighting. It almost looks like a fancy car paint finish. It's a nicer paint finish than my Les Paul Standard.
Versatility - 8/10 : It's definitely versatile, an HSS would be more practical if you're looking for a do-it-all guitar. The SSS version gives that authentic single coil strat sound, and with the coil tapping abilities, opens up for more acoustic sounding tones, muddier overdrive for punk, some really bright funky tones for country too. I use my LP for anything related to gain, so for me it was a no brainer to get the SSS version. The HSS is really good too, I had one before getting a LP and later on getting the SSS, while it may not be as meaty as some other guitars designed for overdrive, the HSS will get the job done. The SSS is everything I would expect from a classic single coil strat, and the coil tapping just opens me up to more tonal possibilities.
Body & Weight - 10/10 : Extremely ergonomic guitar, especially when comparing it to a beefy LP. It's extremely light, easier to hold, more comfortable to play in bed, and a lot easier for high fret access especially with the contour in the back to help this. This is what I meant earlier with the Pro II being a mighty match for the ultra, the ultra is extremely fast yes, but the Pro II is also fast. If I would rate the speed out of 10 between both guitars, I'd give the ultra a 9.5/10 and the Pro II a 9.2/10. But if I were to rate the neck's in terms of comfort, I'd give the ultra an 8.5/10 and give the Pro II a 9.5/10 if not a perfect 10. So how I looked at it in the store was where did it differ the most? And it was certainly in comfort, I would rather sacrifice a little bit of speed for a lot more comfort than to sacrifice a lot of comfort for a little bit of speed. I fingerpick quite a lot when I'm not using a pick, and everything from Clapton inspired chords (thumb-work) to John Mayer's funky chord variations, it just feels super comfortable to play. and I can go very long periods without getting tired or cramping.

When you factor in all of these amazing features and little touches, this is probably the best value Stratocaster on the market right now. The finish is premium and what you would expect from a high end American Fender instrument, you get unique Narrow Tall frets that actually works very well unlike the cheaper fender models that have it, and that is typically something that would only be found on a Fender Custom Shop. It has almost all of the compliments an ultra would, minus the ability to turn the single coils into humbuckers; but that goes with saying I would just get an HSS or 1 humbucking guitar and 1 single coiled guitar. And the ultra neck is no "improvement" but more of a preference for people who want a super slim fast neck. I think they can totally put both of these guitars at the same price but they won't do it because of marketing. This Pro II is a REALLY big upgraded and refined American Standard, while the ultra is a refined version of the Elite.
All in all I am more than pleased with this fine instrument, I think that the competition of the Ultra tends to kick this one into the shadows sometimes, but it's price tag justifies every bit of this instrument. When I brought the ultra home for a week, I personally couldn't bond with it , mainly because it was more of a super-strat than the classic American Standard I always wanted to own.
Let me know how your experience with your Fender Stratocaster is, which model you think is the best bang for the buck I would love to hear :) Cheers

2023.05.30 22:17 joeforth Questions about Aliyah as a working class / poor person

I'm hoping to make Aliyah in the next 5 or so years. I'm doing my best to save money, even with inflation taking a huge bite out of my paycheck each month.
I currently work as an inventory control specialist. Basically I just keep track of my employer's IT-related inventory (think paper, toner, laptops, and tablets), help place orders with vendors, and manage/deploy our new inventory when it comes in.
I know Israel has a booming tech sector, but I'm worried I won't make the cut. I'm not an impressive candidate. I have experience in IT but I'm not credentialed or anything. My academic background is in business. I took an IT job at a temp agency fresh out of college and I've worked in various IT and IT-related jobs ever since. In the last few years I've worked in software testing, healthcare technology, and helpdesk (Tier 2). It's gotten me pretty far in nowheresville Texas, but I'm not sure it will get me far in the "real" IT world. I am not confident I would even get a call for an interview in cities like Houston or Dallas.
I've read many articles and Reddit threads discussing the high cost of living. I'm concerned that if I make Aliyah I won't be able to find work. Worse still is the possibility that I find work but I don't make enough to thrive. Rent in my city here in Texas isn't that bad compared to other places in the US. I pay around $900 (~3300 NIS) combined for rent and utilities. Groceries aren't bad either. A typical week's worth of groceries for just me is around $80 (~300 NIS), but I would hope it to be lower in Israel since I wouldn't have to pay a premium for exclusively kosher food options. I imagine I'd also eat healthier since I wouldn't be eating exclusively highly processed kosher TV dinners and kosher ramen (there are no places to buy kosher meat where I live).
Does anyone have any advice for a prospective oleh who's coming from low-paying IT / IT-adjacent work in a low cost of living mid-sized Texan city? What are some good cities / towns to look at besides Jerusalem and Tel Aviv? Are there jobs for someone like me outside of Jerusalem and Tel Aviv? What salary could I reasonably expect? What sort of rent and utilities could I expect? Grocery bill?
I guess what I'm asking is whether Aliyah is a good economic decision for someone who doesn't already have money? Any olim here that could give me insights into the cost of immigrating? I'm worried I don't even have enough money to leave.

2023.05.30 22:09 egxeof Why do people you travel with get mad at where you park?

The guy that I’m seeing gets mad at me when we’re out somewhere, and I’m driving, and I don’t drive from one side of the shopping mall to the other side, or even just 7 spaces up when the store is right there. In the area I’m in, parking lots tend to not be as huge as Texas/rural kinds, as there’s always transit options nearby; so, the outlets we usually go to have about 1/4 the parking of normal outlets (but there’s plenty of spaces for everyone).
I guess he tries to play it off as a joke but it’s not funny and not really meant to be funny and I’m tired of circling parking lots waiting until someone upfront leaves, just so he doesn’t have to walk 10 more feet. I always have both hands on the wheel and drive 5 below the speed limit too and he makes fun of that. I can tell it has some to do with that he doesn’t have much, and it’s not that his cars are nice, but his only freedom is in “traveling.”
How do y’all deal with this dilemma? I love him but his carbrain attitude makes me not want to travel with him. Advice would be helpful

2023.05.30 21:54 Meandphill My 2019 WRX build is done... For now

My 2019 WRX build is done... For now
Alright so here is an update on my 2019 WRX Base. It was ETuned by Drunkmann Tuning and made 300 HP in Dallas Texas on Dotson Tunings Mustang Dyno on 93 pump gas
-Whiteline grip series 1 springs and sway bars setup (I love it so far but am still playing with the adjustability. I will probably put it to the stiffest option and leave it there. I also discovered my front passenger strut was blown when swapping my springs so it's not entirely as it should be)
-TSW Sebring wheels 18x9.5. +40 offset
-Subaru STI short throw shifter with Perrin shift stop and bushings
-Cobb accessport
-Cobb Big SF intake
-Cobb air oil separator (I called COBB for a replacement Y connector and was directed to AIG who sent me a replacement piece, The Cobb representative told me that it was mostly developed by AIG and Cobb paid for the rights to put their name on it. They are the exact same kit so that solves that. Both representatives were very easy to work with as well)
-Grimmspeed 3 port boost control solenoid
-NGK Spark plugs (I was advised against the One Step Colder plugs by Drunkmann for the FA engine)
-Grimmspeed TMIC
-Grimmspeed Charge Pipe
-Grimmspeed GESI V2 catted J Pipe
-Grimmspeed upgraded BPV (the audio between the two is very different, the stock one gives off a single blow off while the Grimmspeed gives the flutter)
-Grimmspeed Pitch stop mount
-Grimmspeed aluminum Turbo inlet
-Perrin turbo sump restrictor
Tomei UEL headers unwrapped. (I know of the decreases in efficiency and HP these have compared to aftermarket equal length headers. I opted for the sound for now since it's not a power build. When this engine gives up I will go for 500 hp and I will upgrade the block and internals and go Equal length headers but not until then)
All parts were installed by me in my friends garage. ETuning was very easy and was made easier by Drunkmann and his videos on YouTube. My Etune was done in a few revisions and only took 2 days. Very quick turn around by Drunkmann even when he was traveling. 10/10 would recommend.
Side note: has anyone had their AC compressor seize up on them? I took my car to a shop for an alignment and to see what was up with the AC since the summer is here and they hit me with a $2300 bill to repair the system citing the AC compressor being seized as the main problem. I find it hard to believe. I'm taking it to the dealership next week to get a second opinion and see about the possibility of warranty work since it's still under 36k miles. I know it's a long shot since of all of the above work done to it

2023.05.30 21:50 sideous-vacuous SF Bay Area M3 Bumper Repair or Replacement

I'm in the SF Bay Area and I hit what might have been a bag of rocks on 101 which like some gouges and what looks like ten years worth of rock chips on my front bumper.
I was hoping to get a pre-painted bumper replacement from a local Tesla SC for around 1K but they referred me to a list of Tesla certified body shops. I went to one and they quoted about $1850 for a repair and repaint and not a bumper replacement. Due to my high deductible and previous accident record, I prefer to pay this out of pocket.
Is this quote rather high or is the going rate for the Bay Area? Does anyone know of a Bay Area SC that will actually replace the bumper? The SF SC will flat out not do it.

2023.05.30 21:20 vaughnerich Loot, Ingredients, Shopping, and Galleons

This is a discussion of my problems with the games "economy" in a literal sense of the money system, and also the other aspects that factor in like making money and spending money. I also give ideas of how I would've improved things, I am trying to be constructive lol.
First off, money seems TOO easy to get. That wouldn't be a problem if there was a steady stream of things you'd want to buy. But there isn't really much to spend it on. The only thing there's a rotating supply of is gear but you get gear thrown at you constantly so there's hardly any reason to buy it. Then also ingredients and brooms at random vendors. The brooms are worth seeking out I suppose if you want the cosmetics. You can buy seeds to grow your own ingredient and combat plants, but the seeds last indefinitely, its a one time purchase.
Ingredients are EVERYWHERE and there are not that many different ones in the game you get from defeating enemies, so you can easily build up a supply and have NO reason to spend money on them from shops. You can also grow your own ingredients but it takes like 10 minutes so you should be full up in like all you'll ever need in like an hour. Ingredients should been rarer, have longeno respawns, or there should be more different ingredients so you wouldn't have so many of the same kind. More ingredients would of course lend to more potions which wouldn't hurt. But with the ease with which you find ingredients and the automatic potion brewing, it makes it all feel rather unthematic, unmagical, and unexciting. The combat isn't hard enough to warrant actually using potions imo, but they are also QUITE strong (along with combat plants). But you can also easily reach the max storage of all potions/plants and have them available for any encounter. Especially Wiggenweld Potions which the game also throws at you constantly especially when fighting Goblin Loyalists. I feel like with their strength and for theme/creating value of ingredients/brewing potions/growing plants, potions/plants should be a much more precious resource. Finally of course people want to be able to sell potions/plants. Which sounds fine. Although I think there's NO need for another way to make money when you get so much thrown at you and there's nothing worthwhile to spend it on.
A reason you have so much money is because almost all the loot the game gives you is randomly generated Gear which you can sell for a good amount. You get gear in almost every combat with wizards, its in many chests (if its not just plan money already), its in every Treasure Vault (i think?), its almost the only reward for some longterm sidequests and achievements. It's boring. If ingredients or potions were more rare to come by they could be part of rewards for things. But having so much Gear to sell makes money no object. Perhaps it should be unsellable lol and just deconstructed into scraps for upgrading your gear or altering the Room of Requirement which invented "Moonstone" as a Transfiguration resource and it kind of makes zero sense to me lol.
Treasure Vaults don't even feel worth it. The puzzles aren't terribly hard, if they even have puzzles, but even if they did feel like an accomplishment to solve, the Gear rewards SUCK. They should've made less empty ones, made harder puzzles, just had less Vaults, and given them useful rewards. If it HAS to stay Gear, make it unique Gear cosmetics. Although personally I played in the same school outfit the whole game so I cared VERY little about getting new cosmetics.
Gear having stats also feels weird for this game which is one foot in and one foot out of an RPG. They have vague "offense" and "defense" stats which never REALLY felt like they made that big of a difference...and I'm not sure I feel they should from a thematic standpoint. And as far as gameplay, the combat isn't particularly hard so perhaps it would've been more fun if the game was balanced around not being able to alter your "strength" and "defense".
A final aspect of this topic i can think of is how there becomes little reason to visit the shops at Hogsmeade regularly except to sell off your Gear. I'm sure most people would love a reason to pop into the shops and check for anything new and useful they might need/want. I stopped at Gladrags Wizardwear often just because I wanted to get the brimless wizard hat called "First-Year Cap" which I couldn't find until like 70 hours into my playthrough lol. Then I did go into the Quidditch shop occasionally due to the ongoing sidequest.

2023.05.30 21:16 gb2020 I'm at my f**kin' WITS END! Aireloom? Beautyrest Black? Briganti? Kingsdown Northwood?

I know there are a million posts here like this but after researching (or trying to!) for weeks now I still feel like I'm at square one trying to find a decent mattress.
I'm 6'2", 175 lb and my wife is 5'3", 115 lb. We both like firm support but a soft pillow or euro top to prevent shouldehip pain, and we both want a "cool" feel.
5 years ago we got a Nest Bedding Hybrid Latex (Queen Medium Firm). It was AWESOME and we loved it... until it began to sag after only three years. By year 4 we had back pain daily and researched to replace it.
Last December I fell for all the fake DreamCloud reviews out there and bought the DreamCloud Premier. We were surprised how stiff it felt but figured it would soften. It didn't of course, DreamCloud just plain ol' sucks. So I called to return it and they talked me into trying a topper first, which I've been sleeping on for the past month but it's HOT and uncomfortable and my back hurts. So we'll get the full refund if they stand behind their warranty. Just a horrible mattress.
So after reading this sub I now know to avoid mattresses in a box. Been shopping at several local stores in Los Angeles and have found several queen mattresses in the <$2500 range that I liked... but we can either find no reviews at all for some (Briganti Victoria) or no actual details about the quality of materials (even when we ask salespeople or call manufacturers directly).
We liked the feel of these:
  1. Briganti Victoria Medium Euro Top (locally made in Escondido for Mattress Central) $1649
  2. Beautyrest Black L-Class Medium (pillow top) $2135
  3. Kingsdown Northwood plush $1805 at Sit n' Sleep
and one really nice one exclusively at Ortho Mattresses, but they have such horrible customer service reviews (and BBB complaints) I'm avoiding that store altogether now.
Finally today I said SCREW IT, WE'RE GETTING THE SUPER EXPENSIVE AIRELOOM M1 PLUSH, which we ignored because it was out of our price range. Lowest price I've found is $3600, but I thought a splurge would be worth it.
I checked this sub for Aireloom reviews just in case I was missing any warnings and YOU GUESSED IT lots of you guys say Aireloom feels great but breaks down after only 1-3 YEARS!!
So now I'm back at square one and feel like I'm going crazy. Why is it sooooo difficult to find a decent mattress that will actually last 8-10 years?
Thoughts? Advice?

2023.05.30 21:13 ReelsNFlies Park City Info/Conundrum

What’s good everyone?
I am spending a week in Park City here in a couple of weeks and want to get a couple of days of fishing in. My dad is not much of a fly fisherman, but he expressed a desire, but ONLY will go on a drift boat because he doesn’t feel like wading. I’ll take what I can get. We have one day on a boat, but I’m torn between the other day or two.
I am more of an experienced angler and enjoy locating new water and fishing. I want to catch fish (who doesn’t), but also don’t mind the experience of fishing new water. Is Park City worth exploring a few half days by myself or is it worth it to just book a guide? I would go to a fly shop to get their thoughts on flies and where to go. What does the PC, UT people say? Just get a guide or explore? How easy is it to get access to the river? Is it difficult to move upstream/downstream? I have TroutRoutes and see a lot of parking and places to fish. I am not asking for secrets, but if anyone wants to talk offline about this and provide some quick places I can park/wade, I would not be upset about that.
So what do y’all think? Guide it or just go for it and do my own thing? ANY help is appreciated!
Thanks everyone!

I just had a bike shop in Portland remove all of the bionx components of my cargo bike and am not sure what to do.
I've got a hub, controller, and battery, that all worked perfectly together. They're sitting in my garage collecting dust.
I see there are a few parts for sale on eBay, but is it worth my time to sell them there? Is there enough of a market that still exists or should I just huck them?
Thanks!

2023.05.30 20:57 ireallydontcare05 I was attacked in front of 3 cops, then threatened with arrest.

Ok to preface this a bit. I am a regional director in the apartment industry. I run 12 different companies across dall- fort worth.
So this morning I am making my rounds and I go to one of my properties in fort worth. When I show up the secretary informs me that there is an altercation going on at an apartment between a tenant and her granddaughter, they are breaking windows and destroying property and police are on the way. As the director I have to go and collect witness statements from the tenant. I get info from tenant. And while 3 pigs are talking to her I walk over to the granddaughter to get her side of it.
I walk up and start talking to her calmly. Attempting to de-escelate the situation(something the cops were not doing at all). After getting her side, our first action is to separate the parties. So we start helping the granddaughter get her things as she was leaving. During all of this, her boyfriend, who is not a tenant and is visiting property starts to become confrontational with me. I opened my hands palms out in a peaceful gesture and say. I think it's is in the best interest if you leave the property and allow us to sort this out between the tenant and her granddaughter.
At this time the boyfriend gets up in my face and starts pushing me. Now, me not wanting to severely injure a teenager, called over to the cops along with an employee of mine standing nearby. The cops witness the guy shoving me and proceed to sluggishly walk 20 yards and not do anything but stand there while I'm being assaulted.
The guy finally sees the cops standing there and just starts walking off property. I pull one cop to the side and inform them that we want him trespassed from the property and I want to file charges for assault by contact.
The cop gets in my face and says that my actions ( holding my hands out to my side, PALMS OUT. Was an aggressive action and they could arrest me for assault.
At this point I tell her to stop, give me names, badge numbers, and city identification number ( this is what they dont want you to get, badge numbers dont matter). And to leave the property immediately. And instructed them to go no further than the easement until a LT or Sgt was on scene. Needless to say the Sgt tried playing the "it will take months for any action to come to the officers involved,"
Unluckily for them. I'm a very patient man.
I CANT SAY THIS LOUD ENOUGH FUCK THE POLICE ALL COPS ARE BASTARDS

2023.05.30 20:52 theredbobcat How do I (24M) help my girlfriend (22F) grow to confront the issues that are overwhelming her?

I understand that she's going through a lot right now, but I don't know how I can help. I am willing to contribute because I've got a few thousand dollars in savings, but I can't do it all alone. Right now I'm paying for all our food and utilities, doing the majority of the chores (we keep a log).
How do we become more resilient in the face of hardship? When I ask her about any of these issues she just says she is too overwhelmed/anxious to talk about it.

2023.05.30 20:44 Athix01 How to get started with VRS DirectForce Pro Wheel Base?

Started with Thrustmaster, then Fanatec DD Pro (which failed on me when I started using the 8nm boost kit) and now want to get some stuff of proper quality. I've gone through several reviews of Simucube 2, Asetek Forte, DD1/2... and the VRS, which is the one that has caught my attention the most with e.g. Dan Suzuki praising it for its detail.
However, I'm a complete noob regarding the necessary accessories needed in order to fit a wheel to it. I would like to try and be a bit easy on the budget to begin with and therefore my hope is, that I'll be able to use a Thrustmaster wheel that I've got. I've read that it's possible but I'm just unsure of what it would require from the VRS shop (https://vrs.racing/shop) and 3rd party suppliers.
As for mounting I'll be starting with my existing NLR Wheel Stand 2.0 (https://nextlevelracing.com/products/racing-wheel-stand-2-0/). I know it isn't optimal but it's worked quite well with the DD Pro @ 8 nm and with the associated LC pedal, and thus I'll wait a bit with going all in on the rig. I figure I'll need the mounting bracket (https://vrs.racing/shop). However, I'm a unsure of whether it'll align with the predrilled holes in the wheel stand. Anyone who's got any experiences with it?
I hope this is the correct community for posting this.
