I've put it off for far too long, but now it's checkride-scheduling time and I had to get it done. Got 95% - figured I'd post the one thing I wished I'd known before taking it:
Yes, the publicly available practice tests are a very, very useful thing to focus on. Probably for written purposes, they could be the only thing you focus on and you'd be ~fine.
I'd heard rumblings of all the questions being different and no longer published, that they're changing again now with the new time limits, etc. Somewhat confusing. But no - I drilled Sporty's test questions (which as far as I can tell are the same as the King Schools practice questions at https://free-faa-exam.kingschools.com/private-pilot), and probably 80% of my PPL test were verbatim questions I'd studied in the days leading up to it.
About 15% were questions with nearly meaningless changes, and the last 5% (5 or so questions) were ones I legitimately hadn't seen before.
They use the same supplement book, and there's only so many questions you can ask out of that. The "find the magnetic heading" question(s) were verbatim from the practice tests.
Surprisingly, I got no W&B questions and only one weather question (and it was "what does -nimbus mean", lol).
Happy to answer any questions pre-written students have while I'm still fresh from it.

Hello fellow Redditors,
I could really use your advice and insights on my career situation, as well as my desire to escape the cold and find a sense of fulfillment. I'm a 24-year-old with a bachelor's degree in economics and political science, currently struggling to find a job in Montreal. The challenging job market has left me feeling disheartened, and I'm contemplating whether pursuing a master's degree is the right choice to secure a stable income for my future.
However, there's another factor adding to my uncertainty: the cold and dreary weather in Montreal. I find myself longing for a change of scenery and yearning for lots of sunshine on my face. Living in a hot country has become an enticing dream, but I understand that going back to college and doing it in Montreal might be the more financially viable option in the short term (I am Canadian). Nonetheless, staying in Montreal, where the winters can be long and gloomy, is taking a toll on my overall happiness.
At the moment, what I really crave is a change of scenery and lots of sunshine on my face. I dream of living in a hot country, but I'm aware that going back to college might be more financially viable if that's the case. Staying in Montreal seems like the logical choice since it would make college more affordable. However, I've spent the past four years cooped up in my room, and I'm tired of this stagnant routine. I graduated at the start of covid. Since then worked two years remotely and now I am lost.
Considering my situation, I have a couple of questions for you all: What job prospects exist for someone with a degree in economics and political science, and would it be advisable to explore a career switch, perhaps in fields like sales or journalism? I'm open to any suggestions or insights you may have regarding potential career paths that align with my degree.
Furthermore, I'm at a crossroads in my life, not only in terms of my career but also in terms of my desire to escape the cold. I wonder if it's worth considering a change of location and taking the opportunity to travel the world. However, I must acknowledge that I only have $36,000 CAD, which isn't a substantial amount, at least for travel or moving to another country (I might be wrong)I need to know how to spend that money.
My deepest desire is to find a job and a reliable source of income, ideally a remote position that would grant me the freedom to travel and experience the warmth I crave. I haven't lived since covid. Never really left my room. Covid killed me, I am tired, lost. I know I dont want to live in Canada anymore. For me it's my time to move to another country. How ? I can't get a job in Canada, how on earth am I going to get a job somewhere else. What can I even do with a degree in economics and political science.
I sincerely appreciate any advice, personal experiences, or insights you can provide. I'm feeling lost, both in terms of my career and my current environment, and could really use your guidance to find my direction and regain a sense of purpose in life.
I know having 36k saved is a lot for some people at 24. But I need your advice on how to spend it. not for the sake of spending it. How can I use that money to make a good decision about my life.
Deep down I want to travel. An opportunity might happen to me. One way ticket or round trip? Do I come back and take a break in a foreign country. I might miss the routine? Did you ever do something like this.
Sorry if this is long. I am tired. I feel like I am not living but existing + social media is killing me. I will be contact my university career consultant and see what I can do. The cold killed me. Where do I go.

Hag patron - Warlock subclass
Baleful Hex
Starting at 1st level, you gain the Baleful Hex feature. This feature enhances your hexing abilities, allowing you to afflict your enemies with potent curses. Targets cursed by your hex spell, Beguiler’s Curse, or at laters levels the Bestow Curse spell become further ensnared, suffering additional effects based on the type of hex you choose:
Hex of Misfortune: The target has disadvantage on all attack rolls for the duration of the spell.
Hex of Fragility: The target’s Armor Class is reduced by an amount equal to your Charisma modifier. Or You have advantage on all attack rolls against the target for the duration of the spell.
Hex of Enfeeblement: The target has disadvantage on saving throws against your spells and class features.
Hex of Folly: The target’s Wisdom score is reduced by 2 for the duration of the curse. Additionally, they have disadvantage on ability checks and saving throws that use Wisdom.
These additional effects last for the duration of your spell.
Beguiler’s Curse
At 1st level, at the guidance of your patron you have learnt how to effectively manipulate people to your whims. As an action, you can force a creature you can see to make a wisdom saving throw. On a failure, the creature is cursed, and you have advantage on Charisma checks targeting the creature for 1 hour, or until you use this feature on another creature.
The target is unaware they have been cursed, however, a creature that casts detect evil and good can percieve the effects of the curse. A Remove Curse spell cast on the target end this effect early.
You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus. You regain all expended uses on a long rest.
Cruel Malediction
When you reach 6th level, you have gained an increased understanding of your curses, allowing you to manipulate them with ease. The Bestow Curse spell now has a range of 30 ft and you are able to cast it at its base level without expending a spell slot once per long rest.
In addition, when you cast a curse you can select 2 options from your Baleful Hex feature.
Masterful Hexing
At 10th level, you have mastered the art of weaving curses and hexes with unparalleled expertise. When you cast a spell that imposes a curse, you can choose to affect a number of additional creatures equal to your Charisma modifier. These additional creatures must be within 30 feet of the original target and meet any requirements of the spell.
In addition, your Baleful Hex gains the following options:
Hex of Weakness: The cursed creature's melee weapon attacks deal half damage.
Hex of Lingering Pain: The cursed creature's speed is halved, and takes 1d4 damage for every 5 feet it travels.
Hex of Torment: At the start of the target's turn, it takes psychic damage equal to your Charisma modifier.
Hex of Bewilderment: The target is under the effects of the Confusion spell for the duration of the curse.
Hag’s Veil
Starting at 14th level, you gain the ability Hag's Veil. When you activate your Hag’s Veil, you undergo a dramatic change in both form and demeanor. Your body contorts and warps, taking on a more monstrous and hag-like appearance. Your eyes may glow with an otherworldly light, and your skin might become pallid and mottled. As you embrace your transformation, a sense of eerie power emanates from your very being.
While in this transformed state, you gain the following benefits:

1. Cursed Resilience: You gain temporary hit points equal to two times your warlock level. Additionally, you are immune to charm and frightened effects.
   
2. Whenever a creature affected by your curses suffers damage, you regain hit points equal to half the damage dealt. This rejuvenating effect fuels your resilience and keeps you fighting amidst chaos.
   
3. Curse of Desolation: Brand a creature with an agonizing curse that envelops its body and binds it to another creature. A target must make a Charisma saving throw, on a failed save any damage you inflict upon another creature within 30 feet of the target is also inflicted to the target. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus.
   

You can remain in your Cursed Transformation for a number of minutes equal to your warlock level. Once you use this feature, you must finish a short or long rest before you can use it again.
Critique
Baleful Hex.
I want to give additional effects to Hex and Bestow Curse but I feel like for a 1st lvl feature these options are a bit strong and step on the toes of some similar aspects of Bestow curse.
Masterful Hexing.
I think perhaps potentially effecting 5 enemies with hex or Bestow curse is a bit too strong?
Hag's Veil.
The idea for this last feature is that you effectively become a hag temporarily. Allowing you to siphon life from enemies afflicted by your curses but also giving you access to a more powerful curse. The idea for Curse of Desolation was basically the Havoc spell from WoW 🤷‍♂️

I feel bad for my mom as she carrys the mental load for the family. Both my parents don't work, but lots of the responsibilities fall on my mom. Such as phoning the doctors and making phone calls no one wants to make.
My sister doesn't help either, she's 19 and is looking for a car, but won't message the seller incase they want to phone her. So this obviously means mom has to do it. But she's perfectly fine doing out and making plans with her mates, which she never sticks to. For example, today, she was meant to go to a restaurant with her friends and get a few beers and be back by 8:30. But as soon as she left there was a change of plans, so the designated driver ended up drinking around a friends house. This meant no one to drive her home, so she ended up walking home and arrived at 10:30pm. This was just annoying since it made my mom stressed and kept her up waiting. She also intends on going out on Saturday, even though she's spending so much money she may not be able to afford the car she wants. This is a piss take since my mom drives her to collage, but she's getting a job and won't have time to do it when she goes back.
My dad doesn't help either since he sort of enables my sisters behaviour by telling her about nights out she could do and says to my mom when she's renting its all "her her her" (I did shout at him about this but I don't think he really listened).
I know I don't help either, since I don't like making phone calls and other stuff so it falls on my mom. But I am determined to change and make my mom's life easier. Especially since she told me she feels taken advantage of and regrets some choices she's made. But this is difficult since I have exams coming up and I don't have any money so I can't even try and support my mom. So this post is just a rant, and I'm even open for suggestions on how to help my mom.

It's been a few weeks since Eurovision and today I rewatched it again a final time for my annual rankings. My thoughts on this year's contest are mixed - Loreen had a good track, but I still had Finland as the winner right up to the end.
Now my opinions on the contest have changed considerably - what did I think for the final time?
This list is based on my own personal observations and listening expierence. This will be for the final only and not counting the countries who failed to qualify
26 - Serbia: Luke Black - Samo Mi Se Spada
I'm just going to go right out and say it - this should not have qualified. This barely makes a coherent song. Luke mumbling into the microphone, whilst unplugging his dancers who did nothing for 90% of the performance was just...it felt like he was not trying.
It's not even that the song was too safe or too risky. The song was barely a song. The performance was a risky one, but the set and production design was memorable. As Graham Norton on commentary for the UK said, it looks like a 'massive soap dish'.
Somehow, Serbia got 30 points. I genuinely thought this would be a Nil Pois performance.
25 - Albania: Albina and the Klemendi Family - Duke
This was one of those performances that was a headscratcher. It was not a sad song, but it was not a fun song either. It had no direction, and having 5 singers with no discernable lead was a massive negative for me. Too many cooks situation, for sure.
It also looked like nobody actually wanted to be there? Maybe the semi finals were too hard for them and they were drained? I don't know. I was not a fan, it was boring, and directionless. But it was still better then Luke Black.
Silver linings and all.
24 - Croatia: Let 3 - Mama SC
I...
I was lost with this song the first time around. Rewatching the performance I have to ask Croatia - did you submit a meme song? It felt like that anyway. Not much more else here.
Incredible outfits.
23 - Italy: Marco Mengoni - Due Vite
People are gonna be mad here.
Live performance? This song would be incredible. But I'm heavily against sad songs for the sake of sad songs. And I get the emotional toil Marco was going for and again, live this would have got a pop out of me for sure.
I was surprised he came 4th. I thought this was for sure one of the weaker songs of the night. Marco, I am sorry. I did see that pride flag you brought out at the beginning and I thank you for representing us, but I was not a fan of that song.
22 - United Kingdom: Mae Muller - I Wrote A Song
You wrote a song Mae that was a load of shit.
I'm sorry. As a Brit, I am truly sorry. But this was another performance I was surprised got points, but if you watched it live in person...I can see myself clapping similar to Marco. But the lyrics were unrecognisable at time, and the production was...
Too bright.
The dancers however (especially the super cute blonde one) had a lot of passion and clearly were into the performance.
21 - Poland: Blanca - Solo
You had a song without a solo.
A very catchy song, but no solo, so points deducted! Blanca can be one of the strongest characters in Street Fighter, and Blanca can also be one of Poland's babes who robbed the show.
Neither happened that night and I am a very dissapointed Street Fighter Fan and European Music fan.
20 - Lithuania: Monika Linkyte - Stay
As a Eurovision regular, I was expecting a top half performance. But this ultimately just sounded like a budget Adele.
Monika has an incredible voice, that's for sure. But at this point I was burnt out and listening to a sad song was not what I wanted. Maybe I am judging this in bias, but the backing singers however, were a big plus.
They seemed like a perfect fit for the ballad that was being played. So thank you Adele - I mean Monika!
19 - Portugal: Mimicat - Ai Coracao
Mimicat's cabernet sequel performance had potential. But ultimately it was a safe song. The samba beats, and the burlesque dance Mimi gave were of high energy, but it was nothing we have not seen before.
A few years ago, this would have been a heavy contender. At least for me.
18 - France: La Zarra -Evidemment
I will preface this by saying her music was not my cup of tea. But I did find it enjoyable! She has emotion, and she did liven up a stale crowd after one of the worst Eurovision acts in history (Luke Black), so she gets bonus points there.
Overall, it was just a tad bit too played down. This is a shame because France has been a HEAVY contender in recent years.
17 - Ukaraine: Tvorchi - Heart of Steel
The co-host of this year's Eurovision, after the war in Ukaraine prevented the winners hosting this year.
Tvorchi, for me, whilst a very visually cool performance, failed to bring what Eurovision is about - I did not feel that this was a song intended to showcase a country.
It just felt like a mass produced hip hop record to be brutally honest. Great dancing however!
Also MASSIVE props to them - minutes before they performed, their home town was invaded...that must have been tough.
16 - Cyprus: Andrew Lambrou - Break A Broken Heart
This is the first song I regret putting so low. If I saw this live...top 10. Easily. But this was another ballad in an ESC with about 26 ballads.
Exaggerating, I know, but roll with it.
Very impressive production however, and bonus points for having no dancers. This song feels like it should have maybe one or two kicking about, so kudos for breaking cliché!
15 - Austria: Teya and Salena - Who The Hell Is Edgar?
This was admittedly an incredible opening song.
But that was all it had going for it. This felt like every 2010s pop song ever combined. Besides that stupidly catchy chorus - the best chorus not named Cha Cha Cha - it had very little else going for it. The dancers seemed muted and the stage production was as simple as it gets.
14 - Armenia: Brunette - Future Lover
I saw rumours System of a Down were offered this year's spot...and I wish they did, because this performance - whilst pretty and attractive - evoked zero feelings within me.
The song itself is ethereal, beautiful, and incredibly well formed. It just did nothing for me to label it as a standout, and just misses a top half finish.
Great rap verse however!
13 - Estonia: Alika - Bridges
Again, not something I would reach for a ticket personally. But this was a beautiful song, and the self playing piano was a nice touch. It reminded me a little of one of my favourite singers - Amy Lee of the legendary Evanescence.
But Amy Lee she is not. She had no stage presence and if I was in the crowd, I would probably fall asleep here.
Incredible dress however.
12 - Slovenia: Jokers Out - Carpe Diem
This song had no right being slept on as much as it did!
I was bopping from beginning to end, and really enjoyed the crowd's energy - they bought into this song. I just wish they played a riskier song, as this was a little safe for my liking. The singer could have done more.
11 - Czechia: Vesna - My Sister's Crown
I was confused as to what song we were going to get here. I was expecting a full folk song, and what we got was a song in the style of Ex-Wives from the musical Six.
The dancing and stage show were a little sloppy, but the individual solos of each woman really helped this song through.
I want to see them next year, I have a feeling this is not the last we shall see of them.
10 - Spain: Blanca Paloma - Eaea
Looking back at this list, I may regret putting this at 10. It was aspheric, dreamy, powerful, and the performance was strong. From the red fabric veils, to the dancers, and the inspired singing.
I wish I knew Spanish because, this song was beautiful. Reminds me of a Spanish Christina Aggulera.
9 - Belgium: Gustaph - Because of You
In recent years, Belgium have been a non factor. But this song...I heard it, and it went straight on my playlist.
It was boogie time, and I did not even care! From my first time through to the final time, I knew this would be up there. Gustaph looks dressed like he is a Las Vegas entertainer, and then you get this boppy beat, and you can't help but jive!
8 - Norway: Alessandra - Queen of Kings
This was the best pop song of the night. Alessandra poured her heart out to an incredible backing track, and some insanely talented dancers.

That being said, despite being a catchy and memorable, it just fell short of a few songs...
7 - Germany: Lord of the Lost - Blood and Glitter
I really did not want to put this here, but Lord of the Lost just...fell short.
I heard Electric Callboy was gonna be this year's contender and I was so excited! Instead, we got this Ramnstein inspired band. And the song was incredible...nothing wrong with it.
But perhaps it was the wrong song. The crowd seemed tired and the applause was not as loud as some of the other heavier acts in recent years like AWS or Blind Channel.
Nonetheless, still better then last year's.
6 -Israel: Noa Kirel - Unicorn
Just narrowly missing out on the top 5 is Noa. Unicorn was a banger. Probably my favourite Israel song in recent years, and Noa is a georgous woman who has a bright future ahead of her.
I was upset there was no Unicron's - points deducted!
The dancing was on point, and Noa herself had some incredible energy. Especially the dance solo. She could have danced that entire performance herself!
5 - Sweeden: Loreen - Tattoo
This song fell off hard in relistens, but I can see why it was so good.
From the visual design to Loreen's impeccable dress sense and nails, and the emotional carriage of the lyrics...she deserved to win, but there were better songs.
I can't help but think Loreen winning was to establish the fact Abba celebrate 50 years since they won Eurovision next year...maybe a Loreen and Abba Collab, as the two most famous Sweedish acts.
4 - Moldova - Pasha Parfeni - Sorele Si Luna
I am a little biased because one of the drummers/dancers was the exact image of what I see in a guy 😍. Horniness aside, this song was EXACTLY what Eurovision is about, which is why it is a top 5 song.
It is a banger, that combines Eastern European heritage and culture with the rich lyrics and sharp sound from Pasha. The drummers energetically bouncing about, and the little Flutist being the cherry on the cake...
Any other year, this would be my winner.
3 - Switzerland: Remo Forrer - Waterguns
It was just not his night. With a voice like his, and as young as he is, he will become like his idol James Arthur for sure.
I was blown away by his performance...I want more of him. I really do. The Swiss Sweetheart really wowed me, and I really wish him the best career because holy shit, I had goosebumps everywhere!
Keep at it Remo!!
2 - Australia: Voyager - Promise
I know Voyager and I was not upset they got elected this year.
Voyager are an incredible metal band, and this poppy, proggy, banger of a hit had EVERYONE talking. I don't think a single person disliked this song. It reminded me of Night Rider in the opening moments, and then goes into this rocky, symphony that is times chaotic, and with that breakdown...
I was just very pleased with this performance. And iirc, this is Australia's best performance since joining! This was a very very kind surprise.
Which means number one is...
1 - Finland - Karrija - Cha Cha Cha
In the absence of Electric Callboy not representing Germany, I was hoping for a rocky, metal like performance with lots of energy and a memorable chorus. We nearly got that with Voyager, but Karrija stole the hearts of everyone...myself included.
Starting off low and slow, leading into a metal like chorus with the harsh vocals coming out, and the Cha Cha Cha being screamed...it was a combination of Finnish metal and pop and it stole the show.
There is no doubt in my mind that he should have won this. None at all. It was perfect for Eurovision! And I am so upset for him, this was the star performance.
And when it goes back into the pop second half of the song...it was ingenious and I have never seen anything or heard anything like that.
Robbed. For sure.

This is something I've been quietly observing over the past 6 months in the Overwatch community, and I'm surprised it hasn't attracted more attention. I'm not sure why, perhaps there are more of these individuals than I initially thought. Maybe I'm the minority in this. Maybe it has become so normalized that people have become desensitized. However, it's making the game almost unplayable for those who choose to play honestly and fairly. If you're a regular in NA competitive matches, you probably already know what I'm talking about. For those who are not, you might think I'm talking about hacks, macros, or lag switches. No, this is much worse than all of those.
It all started around Christmas time in a typical King's Row match. I was getting outplayed by a low-level Mercy player who insisted they weren't smurfing. I was taken aback because they were playing incredibly well. Quick reaction time, hitting every heal and damage boost, even when I would use a my most complex rein combo (a recently removed exploit allowing a basically unreadable attack). These were extremely difficult for even the best players to counter. Naturally, I accused them of being a Smurf given their low level of 96. They swore they weren’t, so I asked, “how are you doing this?” They replied, “I’m cracked bro.” “Yeah, yeah, but actually if you're not a Smurf, how?” thinking they might be using some sort of auto counter program. They said, “No bro, I’m literally smoking crack right now.” At the time, I thought this was just a typical gamer joking around. However, in retrospect, this was just the beginning.
Several weeks later, I was browsing through low viewer Twitch channels. I stumbled upon someone somewhat known in the Overwatch competitive scene, who I won't name for obvious reasons. They were just doing typical Overwatch streamer activities, but every 10 minutes or so, they would turn their camera off for a short period. I was somewhat confused but assumed they were smoking marijuana. After about 30 minutes, I assume they forgot to turn their camera off because I saw what they were really doing. Smoking crack. You might say, oh, maybe it was just a marijuana pipe. No, I know my way around different types of pipes, seeing as my uncle Ron would consistently have me working at his tobacco shop when I was 9. Once they realized they didn’t turn their camera off, you could tell they felt embarrassed, but tried to play it off like they didn’t do anything. They were playing incredibly well during the course of this stream, dying maybe once or twice in 40+ fights. I didn’t think about this too much after, there are degenerate drug addicts in every game.
Now this is where I started to notice this was a problem. A while later, I was in a voice call in the Overwatch training discord with several very good players. They were helping me out, giving me tips, and overall we were having a good time. 20 minutes in, one of them said, “crack time?” And the others replied, “crack time.” Somewhat confused, I looked at my 4th monitor to see their webcams, and they were legitimately smoking crack. I asked, “are you guys really smoking crack?” One replied, “you have to if you want to be good at this game.” I was shocked and left the call after this.
Since then, I have noticed more top-level Overwatch streamers smoking it. As well as seeing “crack time” typed in the chat often. This is something a casual console player who is not as involved in the discord
would never even notice. However, it is starting to become rampant in the community. I love this game and try very hard to become better because the mechanics feel so good to me. Yet every day I continue to struggle, and with every passing day, I come a little closer to picking up the pipe.
This is the uncomfortable reality of Overwatch competitive servers. It's a problem that needs to be addressed, not just for the health of the game, but for the well-being of the players involved.

Current setup: Four way dumb switch circuit, (with neutrals of course) powering a load consisting of two ceiling fiztures.
I have an open area at the top of a staircase with two switches at opposite ends, and the third switch is at the bottom of the staircase. I do not know which one of these is the first/primary/master that is always powered. Some people in various places suggested that this may matter for some setups.
What I want to achieve: upon detecting motion at the bottom of the staircase, or in the open area at the top, the load is activated.
I would like to avoid WiFi devices. I would like the switches to continue working as dumb switches even if connectivity to the hub is down, which seems like it wouldn't be the case with many of the solutions out there which require "addon" switches. I only need two motion sensors, since the area at the top of the stairs is set up such that one sensor can cover everything.
I have seen some people promote solutions where the master switch is a smart switch, and the rest are dumb switches. But looking at Innovelli and some others, they say it won't work. So I'm not sure if this is a case of some switches being designed differently or just misleading information.
I could use one or more dedicated motion sensors, but this has some disadvantages.

1. It is aesthetically unpleasing to me, because I'll have to mount/leave out some motion sensors.
2. Batteries that need to be changed. The advantage of a motion detector that is part of the switch is that it is always powered from the house wiring.

I was also trying to see if there are any motion sensors that are designed to be hardwired into a ceiling fixture, but I could find none.
What have you folks done or seen done? What would you recommend?

I've been mixing semi-professionally for several years. My gear, plugins, and workflow have changed over time and I've grown accustomed to my monitoring and room. I've noticed there are some things I do regularly that help me get to the sound I'm listening for quicker. However I'm still slow and I spend far too much time choosing a reverb, drawing automations, deciding if I need +4 at 3k or 5k, etc... It's all groovy and fun for me so I don't mind that I'm slow. Here are some things that I've learned to do (ITB) that have a significant quality and speed impact on my work:

• Every track gets a channel strip, in my case the API console emulation (uaudio). I've been working with it long enough that I'm proficient with the settings and I can usually get the sound I'm after. It's super handy to have the basic eq, comp, gate, and filters in one place everywhere. Likewise every bus gets the API 2500 compressor. I might swap the drum group comp with a 33609.
• Every bus, fx return, and 2 bus gets either Neve or API summing, a tape emulation and a True Iron plug set to reasonable settings. I go super easy on tape saturation and set variables to 1" and 30ips. This is the baseline I mix into from the start. I'll underscore that it makes a world of difference by mixing into these from the start.
• I used to leave vocals for last. My songs tend to have high track counts and I would spend countless hours on tweaking eqs, levels, and panning on instrumentation that ultimately plays a minor part. Once all that was done I'd do lead vocals. I could still achieve the sound I wanted doing it that way however once I switched to doing the lead instrument (vocals) at the outset it made the rest of the mix work faster. I could pay less attention to secondary and tertiary elements and still achieve the sonic goals I was aiming for.
• Different monitors, different stages of the mix. Setting levels, eq, pan, and initial dynamics will be done on Dynaudio LYD48 in nearfield. Once I'm happy there I'll switch to B&W DM602.5's which are set further back and wider. At this point I'll run through the mix once or twice, and then switch back to the Dynaudio's and run through the mix again. Finally, I'll switch back to the B&W's for a final pass, this time bouncing between the two pairs. The B&Ws are super bright, but I feel like they are a reasonable representation of a lot of end-user systems. Not everyone has silk-domed tweeters.
• I've begun to rely on my ears A LOT more. I'll purposely choose a plugin that has little to no visual feedback so a spectrum analyzer or VU meter doesn't bias me. I'll also close my eyes and hit the bypass button several times until I don't know if it's off or on. Then cycle through off and on and see what I like.
• Clipping is magical but it's a game of inches. For example drums - I'll clip the snare/kick/etc. by 3db, then clip the drum bus by 3db, then clip the master by 3db which if didn't screw up too badly should result several in dbs of 'mostly transparent' gain reduction, which leads to louder final mixes.
• Delay is what I'll reach for first, reverb is used sparingly.
• Reference tracks early and often. Maybe less so towards the end of the mix.
• Mostly I would say I'm confident about what I want to hear, and I leave shit alone if it doesn't need anything. I would also say that I'm confident to allow an instrument to poke it's head above everything when it needs to, or allow a resonance that just adds to the flavor. I have a particular sound I like to listen to and I mix for that target.
• I'm not going to discuss the immorale things I do to tom tracks.
• Finally, garbage in/garbage out. Once I get about 3 plugins deep on a track and I'm still not hearing what I want I'm perfectly willing to either re-record a part myself, or request a better recorded version.

Some of the things I don't pay too much attention to:

• I don't fold to mono very much at all.
• I have Auratones, I don't use them.
• I'm scared of M/S compression.
• I'm scared of multiband compression.

In the end the single biggest takeaway I've got from this subreddit is that if it sounds good to me, it is good. But I had to go through all the steps before that to understand for myself that this is true. Time takes time and after all the years I've spent behind a monitor or console I still get excited when I sit down with a bunch of fresh tracks.

This might be a bit controversial here. I love OP and I always will, but I can't help but feel that the story is taking a turn where I'm starting to distance myself a little bit. I liked the idea of Luffy just being a silly little rubber man who's one day going to become the King of the Pirates. I was cool with the D. stuff initially as well. However, if you think about it, Luffy has a LOT of things going for him.

• He's part of one of the most powerful family bloodlines ever (Garp, Dragon)
• Trained by the legendary pirate Rayleigh
• Has one of the most OP devil fruit in the story (NIKA)
• Many people say he is the outright reincarnation of Joyboy (I never really cared for all the JB stuff that much tbh, I would've liked it to be part of the story but it seems like Luffy and Joyboy's identity are pretty much merging or are the same at this point)
• And some other stuff I probably forgot

I would like someone to change my perspective a little. What I love about Luffy is how good of a leader he is, he wins over the hearts of everyone (just like what Mihawk said during Marineford), but this is also something that I'm starting to feel iffy about because of all the Joyboy stuff.
I understand that being a D. and having an OP devil fruit / skills is not everything, bc there are other people like Blackbeard who are the exact opposite so they will have to face down each other at the end, but...

• What about other characters? I would have really liked a different character who would be Luffy's rival and in contention for the title of King of the Pirates, who is not a D. or someone "special" - maybe Kidd, or a character like Shiki.
• We know that Luffy will win in the end.

Furthermore, I don't know how relevant this is but before I got into One Piece I was big into Naruto, and even though I saw it coming, I fucking hated Naruto being the son of the 4th and the child of a Namikaze/Uzumaki in the end. Made his arc less impactful imo. I don't want the same thing to happen in OP.
Thoughts?

Unfortunately, I've calculated that every road race or endurance frame that would be suitable for me would result in my leg hitting the front wheel. It really bothers me and I consider it to be a safety hazard. I know there's only a chance of it happening at low speeds, but it would still be bothersome. - Have any of you experienced a fall because of this?
Gravel frames would be good, but they have a high stack value, and I prefer a 105 or Ultegra set for road biking. Another option would be to get a frame one size larger, but then I would have to use a stem two centimeters shorter, and the stack would also be higher, which is not ideal. Additionally, it would change the handling of the bike.

Like worms digging into your psyche you have foreseen the entirety of the continent rotting away. With the visions plaguing your mind you have decided to seek out this news crier for more answers.

• Normal point buy for stats.
• You can change what type stats your character's race provides (Example: Charisma to Constitution as long as the +1 modifier stays the same)
• No Dragonmarks or Backgrounds that give extra spells.
• All characters need to be approved by me. This means if there is a really really unfair build I can deny it.

Hey guys! So Lucifer came to me a little over a month ago and it has truly been life changing. During this time I've dedicated myself to learning all that I can about him. I've read a few books but I keep feeling like I should be doing more even though I've received confirmation that He is proud of my progress. After installing the new CPU cooler ( Cooler Master 212 RGB ) and installing the new graphics card for NVidia 1050ti, the light on the case and the fans are still running after shutdown. After pressing the power button for a few seconds everything turns off. After checking the BIOS settings, I noticed the fan speed for the CPU 1 65535 RPM, CPU temperature 6553.1 c, and the cpu Vcore voltage out of standard. The version of the BIOS was updated to 5.80, no changes. Is the motherboard failing or can it be something else?

Born in 152 inside of Oldtown the White Dragon’s youngest son would be Baelon. Baelon’s father was none other than Daemon Fisher, who was none other than one who came from Gaemon Palehair’s line. Aegon II as he was acknowledged the boy was his, and as he was a sweet lad did not fully legitimize him, nor kept in as low as a bastard born should be. Rather he allowed him his name, and declared the sweet boy’s offspring would be forever Great Bastards, but could take names which suited them of their region. Daemon was born in the Riverlands and took the long dead name Fisher.
Daemon had children, each in different areas of the Kingdom, earning him the moniker the Bastard Maker. A rough knight, who was only popular amongst the lists and women, Daemon was easily hated and thus none mourned when he died of suspect circumstances.
Baelon though, was made in the Reach along the banks of the Honeywine, the woman was either a Costayne or a Roxton, a Crane or any number of houses, but what is known the woman went to the Starry Sept, and had the babe before she passed. The church would raise him to a point before a sympathetic Septon to the Hightowers turned him over and there he was warded, his father coming to check every now and then until his death in the Dornish marches years before the Red War.
When House Tyrell heard a line of Gaemon Palehair’s was alive within the Reach, they asserted their dominance but once and had the young lad taken to high garden, where he would raised, squired and he would earn his spurs.
Taking on the name Greenhand, Baelon earned his love from his fellow knights and the ire of his rivals from his performances in the lists acquiring followers where he went. He spent his time all over the seven Kingdoms, coming into Dorne during the Red War, earning accolades and nervous glances from Kings Landing.
He would be approached one night at the end of the war, rather forcefully in the camps and taken in the dead of night to a secret meeting in which the Lord Hand laid out his path. Either he takes the black, joins the Faith and renounces any dragon blood in him, or he could take a knife to his throat.
Baelon, though famed a knight, also knew when to chose his battles. “Alas.” Baelon is said to have commented. “Now I shall never know the joy of fatherhood.” And took him the faith in which he was raised, returning to old town.
He laid down his sword on 189 and put aside his banners and emblems, instead kneeling before the high Septon after a week long vigil to take his oath as a Septon. And quietly was ensconced in the Faith. He would spend the next two years in ardent training before becoming a begging brother sworn to the smith, and donning the brown and grey robes of the creative aspect of the Seven’s love. He traveled through the Crownlands, reach and Riverlands preaching and begging, until installed at the Stony Sept in 194 and then in 196 he was recalled to Oldtown there working amongst the city and the Most Devout.
By 198 he was named a Most Devout, and began preaching exclusively from the Starry Sept when the High Septon, then known as the Firebrand was in Kings Landing. Many would come to hear the dragon in sheep’s clothing sermons or would write to consult on matters of faith
In 205 the Firebrand would die of the same disease which claimed the Queen. After a year of deliberation and voting he was chosen as the new high Septon in 206, taking on the moniker of the Gardener, given his passion for spending time outside rather than in, and working amongst plants.
Beloved by the people, he is different from the Firebrand, as love and healing is spoken of- and winds of change promised. Remformation looms, and the Gardener is the one to cultivate it.

My wife (28F) gave birth to a wonderful baby boy last month and I'm (34M) taking 6 months of parental leave. The birth was natural but needed a vacuum and incisions to get him out. Wife also had extensive bleeding so she needed a balloon inside to hold the blood clots at bay but all in all, we were cleared to go home after 2 days.
For the first 4 weeks, my wife just focused on recovering while I took care of the little one and housework. After that, she started to learn how to prep bottles, change diapers, etc. and I was finally able to get more than 2 hours of uninterrupted sleep.
Week 6 came and my wife had her checkup with the gynaecologist. Everything is healing up properly and stitches should be fully dissolved in a few more weeks.
It's now week 7 and our house is a mess inside and out. My wife was a little upset and says that I don't appreciate what she does. I thought it might be a good idea to have a conversation on how we can assign tasks to each other so we can know who's responsible for what. So I stole some ideas off of google and made a rough draft of tasks:
cooking, light cleaning, deep cleaning, lawn care/shovel snow, laundry, trash/recycling, grocery shopping/medication refills, dishes, medical/dental/eye/hair appointments, pet responsibilities: feeding, walking, grooming, health appointments, etc., automotive maintenance, home repairs, sorting mail, financials, taxes, childcare, vacation/birthday/holiday planning
 
I told her to just initial what she does and I'll do the same. Our results were that we both take care of little one (alternating 12 hour shifts) and food (she prefers ready made stuff while I prefer home cooking). She exclusively does the dishes and folds laundry while everything else I do. She became upset and defensive because she says she does dishes every day while I only do my things once in a while. I argued that not worrying about appointments/finances/car+house maintenance schedule gives her a peace of mind and reduced mental load. Plus a dog gotta eat and walk everyday.
This leads to her crying and saying she doesn't get appreciated for things which annoyed me because that was the point of the list. I end it by saying "just forget it, I'll figure it out". I've already been doing most of the tasks even before the baby and it was doable. Just now trying to cut the grass with baby is gonna kill his eardrums and going grocery shopping with him is so anxiety inducing.
Last thing I should add is that she doesn't drive or work so things like grocery shopping and finances automatically fall on me and my wife says "yard work and car maintenance is man's work" which I don't mind. If she could take care of the little one full time and dishes, I'd be ok with that but just handling a baby alone seems like a hard sell. I'm really worried about how everything will go after parental leave is up. So AITA?
